Crazy week for the contenders. Wasn't expecting my beloved Cards to be the only eight win team left this week. But I'll take it

Wish they woulda gone for a hail mary, if only to keep the streak Santos had going alive. He was closing in on the NFL record.

Cam Newton meeting with the Panthers today. He is likely coming back.

He must not be allowed to play this week against my beloved Cardinals. Still have nightmares of his first game as a starter when he threw for over 400 yards against the Cards.

I think the move if it happens makes a lot of sense for the Panthers given their current QB situation.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the Panthers already had Bridgewater on the team and a top ten pick.

They could have simply kept him, not traded a second for Darnold, and then drafted whichever QB fell to them. And the fallback for that (if, say, you only liked 2 of the QBs and both were gone by your pick) would be to draft a top player anyway and then go into the season with Teddy and grab the QB of the future next year.

I know, again, that this is all hindsight. But cutting a serviceable QB, trading a second for the statistically worst QB in the league, and then not drafting a high-upside guy in a stacked class was kind of a crazy idea at the time.

I think that the new owner/coach combo outsmarted themselves.

Big Media Market.
Great Offensive Coach.
Great QB.
Good chance at a deep playoff run.

Make a lot of sense. I'd have gone there or Tampa if I were he.

But as a fan who likes watching home-grown teams rise up, I hope that this whole approach to team building blows up in the Rams' face. If the Rams win it all the year after the Bucs get Brady/Gronk and win it all, it is going to make the NFL more NBA-like in a bad way.

Bad WR

Seriously, post 2018 OBJ is not very good. If he’s anything more than the 4th receiver on that team I’ll be surprised, but he might get a ring out of it regardless.

Why? This isn't the Dodgers going out and buying players without giving anything up. Many think they have been crazy trading away the draft picks.
I don't see any similarity between TB getting Brady and what the Rams have done.

Stafford was not free. The Rams did not go to the Lions UNTIL Stafford demanded a trade. Many pundits still say "Stafford isn't the guy, he's never won anything" and more. They paid a very high price. Maybe they should have stayed with Goff and let the Niners get Stafford?

Von Miller, not free.

Ramsey, not free.

They let some high quality players go this year because of the moves they've made. Even if they win these decisions will have to weighed against what they are in 3-4 years.

Where they have excelled is selecting low to mid round players and having them become contributing players and even stars. If that continues they may come out of this without a huge downswing.

OBJ is the first "bargain" or soccer "free transfer" that they have signed. I think? And his star is definitely tarnished and it is questionable how good he still is. As a Rams fan I'm not all that fired up about the move. A distraction they probably don't need. Best thing is, like AB in Tampa, if he doesn't behave and produce he'll be gone.

Now if you're afraid top QBs are going to force their way out of bad situations because of Stafford and maybe Rodgers (not a bad situation)next year you may be right that NBA changes are coming. In Stafford's case I don't blame him at all for wanting to get out. He gave them 12 years at a franchise that was poorly run. Rodgers on the other hand just "thinks' he wasn't taken care of. There were reports the Rams asked GB about trading for Rodgers last off season. If that's true I'm glad it didn't work out.

This is settled by Monday night, right?

Roethlisberger out versus Detroit because COVID. Can the Lions win one against Haskins or Rudolph or whatever the Steelers decide to do at QB?

Yeah, probably not. But it ought to give them a chance at least.

I want just one thing for my birthday today especially with Coastal Carolina letting me down, a nice relaxing dominating win by my beloved Cardinals over the Panthers today, Kylar plays, doesn't get hurt, no Cards do, not too much to ask for is it?

And while I'm at it, two wins for my CJBL teams today would be extra sweet

What are the Lions doing? You're a winless team with a QB who has gained 54 yards on 20 pass attempts. He's not a rookie learning the game, he's not the future, and you're not winning with him. Why are they not letting other guys take some snaps?

That overtime... horrifying. The Fox station in Youngstown just broadcast an apology to the fans.

The only positive you can take from that is at least the Lions won't break their own league record for losses in a season.

Not sure what the Lions can do at QB other than wait. They know what they have in their undrafted backups. Blough even got a long look two seasons ago and was awful. Goff isn't great, but he's far from the only problem they have. Goff, Blough, Boyle and Montez... sounds like an interesting law firm at least.

The NFL is faster and more complex than ever before. It's not surprising there's a tremendous shortage of QBs who can actually thrive at that level.

Several people who look ahead say that this is a historically bad QB draft class.

It will be interesting to see what QB needy teams do if they think they cannot get a guy in the draft.

Like, Jameis Winston. Famous for throwing 30 picks in a season. Hasn't really played in two years. Had to win a QB battle with Taysom Hill. Coming off an ACL/MCL. But looked kind of OK at the beginning of this season before the injury.

I have no idea what you pay a guy like that. And if your choice is between him or Sam Darnold or Case Keenum or a rookie that you have a 3rd round grade on?

Some GMs are going to either get fired or get extensions based on their QB choices this offseason.

It's not the worst idea. I've always made fun of Bears fans for how much they dislike their starting quarterbacks.

My wife and I sometimes go to local parks to walk. A couple of weeks ago, we met a man walking his dog, wearing a Bears cap. My wife is from the Chicago area. So we asked how he felt about the team this year. This was right after one of the Fields disasters. I couldn't resist throwing in a little Trubisky/Cutler "what was wrong with them" shade.

He wasn't a fan of either. I asked him when was the last time he liked a Bears QB. You probably know the answer, and it now dates back 36 seasons. And the thing about that team was the defense was maybe the best the NFL has ever known.

So I don't know. After seeing a misguided Seahawks linebacker fire an opposing player's shoe halfway down the field, perhaps he's available. Though picking up unnecessary 15-yard penalties in a 3-0 game isn't a great sign.

What Solecisimic said. Goff isn't the future and they aren't winning with him, but he's still better than the alternatives, none of which are the future either. It's kind of a moot point but Boyle is on IR, so that leaves Blough, undrafted and played like it at the end of '19 when he got his shot due to a Stafford injury. Montez was also undrafted and spent most of last year on Washington's practice squad.

So yeah. There really, really isn't anything better. Yes, this franchise sucks that much - and they were throwing all their eggs in the Stafford basket and trying to be competitive with him most of the time he was here. The cupboard isn't bare, it barely even exists

So apparently a number of players in the Steelers-Lions game including Najee Harris didn't know ties were a thing.

There's been an average of a tie game a year for the last decade. It's not like it's something that happens once a generation. How do professional athletes not know how overtime works in their own sport? *boggle*

Meanwhile, the Falcons still suck. I think it is hilarious how much of the fan base blames it on Matt Ryan. It's like they don't look around the league and see the complete dearth of QB's. Thay expect Matt to play QB while run blocking and also playing defense or he sucks. It's nuts.
