Sigh. Too many guys waited too long, then all my safety nets signed, then there wasn't any money for the guys I really wanted.

Glad I made the trade now...

This stage would've been a huge win had Becker signed. Of course, I'm a moron and stayed two-year deal instead of going with one.

My WR's are set for the long-term, however.

I don't think any of my borderline offers went my way, and I still need WRs. Yikes...

Solid squad in Cinci, should be great up front, the offense has weapons, just needs someone to get the ball to them. Secondary is strong and deep.

We're lacking in the LB and QB areas though.

Overall i'm not as displeased with my team as I could be considering where I once was. I think my squad is good enough to compete week in and week out, especially with a strong secondary and Dline.

We are going to be a horrible team. I only got 2 guys I really wanted from the outset.

I got QB Grant Brennan, hopefully that will continue to remain a big win for me in the future. His stats aren't the prettiest (INTs).

Got a few more guys I was wanting, but the offensive line is hurting some at T, I need some other starters still as well. Overall, I am fairly happy I guess.

Well, with 53 players under contract and a boatloat of cap room, it's wheeling and dealing time for Denver.

Im very pleased with this turnout. I have a strong OLine, a great rb, a very nice DLine, and a solid secondary. I have 12 mil to sign 26 guys which is doable.
I also have my special teams pretty well filled out.

I need a FS and some depth. Im pretty happy with how my team is shaping up.

By the way, I think Minnesota wins the best name award that I've seen, with their QB....Moe Mustard.

Strong roster here in KCY. We signed enough to field a team but there's always room for improvement. I LOVE my two young CBs of 70+. That's always a nice backbone to the defense.

We may have the best secondary in the league. Very happy about that.

It does not look good here in Seattle. We didnt get anywhere near enough starting caliber players to sign with us. On the plus side we should be picking high for the next few seasons.

So, in the spirit of this partially being a learning experience... those teams with upwards of $70-100 million in unspent cap space. Imagine if you had put in a one year, maximum bid for the best 5th year QB in the free agent market.

Right now, you'd be mulling over trade offers of maybe two first round draft picks from a couple of teams, and after picking the best offer, at worst you'd be right back where you are right now (only assuming that your deal involves getting no players back)... except you'd have a substantial additional cache of draft picks to work with going forward.

I see what you are saying, but it wasnt like I didnt have some huge offers out there. I had a 40 million doller signing bonus to a QB, a 35 million doller signing bonus to a RB, and a 35 million doller signing bonus to a WR. Not to mention some other huge offers I had out there for some defensive players. To do the 1 year option I was afraid if a couple of these guys that I had offers out there signed with me, I would be in cap hell. Oh well, does that mean that I am in cap heaven now?

Well, let's say you put in the max for the QB and got him (since nobody else put in that offer, it's fairly safe that you would have landed him). You get him to a 1yr deal, you quickly trade him to another team, and suddenly you have at least $25m in cap space to work with to fill out your roster. "Cap hell" doesn't have much of a meaning if it's gone in one fully intended move.

I'm aware hope springs eternal, and that it's hard to "give up" on the guys you are hoping to target for multi-year deals to become part of your long term plans. But past that, I'm not sure the cap means much going forward. I guess some teams have the leverage now to push the rest of us around and go land those remaining 38/38 centers and tight ends and whatnot, but honestly that's a non-issue.

Cheers and good luck.

I have never really looked at it that way before. I always have looked at it long term. Something for me to consider when dealing with free agency.

Not picking on you SegRat, but I think the RB offer in particular makes for a great object lesson for anyone who doesn't fully understand how FOF players evaluate contract offers. Here's the RB you must have put the $35M signing bonus on:

SEA
Kirk Barricelli
RB
5 years, $60,230,000

Here's what he signed:

ARI
Kirk Barricelli
RB
Signed as free agent
2 years, $30,000,000

Why did he sign that??? You offered him $35M in guaranteed money, but he took a $20M bonus from Arizona instead. Here's why:

It is clear that the #1 factor in contract evaluations in FOF is Bonus Per Year.

(Note that other factors and perhaps even some dice rolls come into play, but BPY is the clear #1.)

Subby offered a $20M bonus over two years: $10M per year in bonus money. You offered what may have *looked* like a big contract, but with "only" $7M per year in bonus. That was the difference.
