First Ernie Harwell and now Sparky Anderson. A tough year for Detroit Tigers icons.

Me too. Just last night I read an article that said he was ill and that he had been sick for a while.

One of my favorite managers.

Very sad. The Reds wouldn't have been quite the BRM without Captain Hook. RIP

For Sparky. To me, he looked 15 years older than he was in every picture I've seen of him.

RIP Sparky. I grew up in Michigan with those Anderson coached Tigers teams. He was a class act all the way, and a helluva manager as well.

Yup and with that look Joe Morgan has, I'm thinking he lost some of his money to Rose.

As a Reds fan, a sad day. Sparky was by far the best, he was a class act and had some tremendous character.

My first live baseball games with my dad were in Riverfront Stadium in 1975. Loved the Big Red Machine.

Sad day indeed.
Btw, when was the last time a president called the championship team? Or does he still do it?

Indeed, RIP Sparky.

My favorite all time quote about a baseball player came from Sparky Anderson.

"I'm beginning to see Brooks (Robinson) in my sleep. If I dropped this paper plate, he'd pick it up on one hop and throw me out at first." - Sparky Anderson

Started watching baseball in the late 60's. While not a Reds fan I did enjoy watching Sparky. As others have already said a class act.

With that silver hair I would have guessed him to be much older. I was 15-16 years old when the Reds were winning in the mid 70's. I thought Sparky was in his mid 50's then. Very surprised he was only 76.

RIP Sparky. Thanks for the memories.
