Pass. I won't gain much by going 224, and this way I avoid injury.

Just hope this gives me a shot at the medals in the 1500.

EVENT 9 - JAVELIN - Throw 3

Pflaggstettler - once again his toe crosses the line - foul

Lesgettham - 3rd toss is very similar to the other 2. This one is also going to be short of his 1st throw - 193'.

Yellope - Pass

Palmer - Pass

Mighty - Looking to build on his last big toss - Mighty launches another one - this one is real long - long enough to win the event outright??? The official measurement - 238'

Gonzalez - can't better the last throw - 179'

Mello - Goes for it one last time and is paid off for the effort - 225'

Babson - hoping to follow in Mello's footsteps like he did on the first throw - but his toss is well short of Mello's199'.

Kappe - foul

Soldier - foul

Gunner - still can't better his first throw - 203'

Elli - passes

Cat - foul

Nights - overexerts himself attempting his final toss and pulls a muscle in his back - adding insult to the injury - the long throw comes to naught as the white foul flag is raised.

wow - I've played this game a bunch and I've never had so many injuries. Over half the field is dealing with or retired from some sort of injury

I'll give it one last try.

Can we have a medal for the highest injured score?!

EVENT 9 - JAVELIN - Review

Gunner continues to peform at a top level. He finishes this event in 3rd place and just opens up his lead on the competition. Mighty's impressive final throw made a huge impact on the leaderboard as he jumps from 7th to 3rd and he only trails Nights, who peformed poorly in this event and is also dealing with an injury heading into the 1500, by 31 points.

Next to Nights, Gonzalez was probably hurt the most in this event. His injury hampered him to the point that he fell from a legitimate medal contender to 11th.

EVENT 10 - 1500 METER - Preview

This event was one that was going to produce a wide spread in results. There are 4 athletes that are really good in this event, 2 that are average and 10 that are poor. However, a lot has changed since this event started.

Of the 4 contestants that are good in the 1500:

- Yellope was injured in the last event of day 1 - the 400 Meters
- Palmer was injured in the last event
- Soldier was injured way back in the long jump.
- That leaves Cat - as the lone 1500 Meter specialist not dealing with an injury.

Of the 2 average 1500 meter runners - 1, Ivanov, has had to resign completely from the competition, making Elli one of the other favorites in the event.

All this bodes well for Gunner, who isn't good in this event, but neither are any of the people remotely close to him on the leaderboard.

This is going to be a very interesting finish. Gunner pretty much as the goal locked up - barring a major injury in this event, I think he'll pretty much win it going away. However, the rest of the leaderboard could change significantly.

Currently, Nights is in 2nd place, but being a poor 1500 Meter runner and dealing with an injury will cause his time to be EXTREMELY SLOW. Mighty may be perfectly positioned to take the silver. He's uninjured and easily within striking distance of Nights - but he isn't good in this event. Lesgettham, who's peformance has been admirable - battling through injuries all of the 2nd day to stay in medal contention - he's not good in this event and his injuries are really going to hamper his efforts. Yellope is also injured, but he is good in this event, and he was able to receive treatment at the end of day 1, so his injury may not bother him as bad as someone injured in the second day. Pflaggstettler is 6th, but he's also uninjured. The key for him will probably be finding a way to beat Yellope. If he can beat Yellope he will pass him in the standings and might find himself on the Silver or Bronze platform at the end of the day. It will be very interesting to see if an uninjured, but poor 1500 Meter runner can beat a good, but injured 1500 Meter athelte.

Mello and Kappe are also uninjured, but both, like Pflaggstettler will need good runs, and probably will have the same benchmark of beating Yellope as the key to possibly getting a medal.

One last wildcard...Cat is certainly too far back to be a factor (though he will undoubtely get himself out of last place and Palmer will probably finish there), but Elli - even though he's way down the leaderboard - he's uninjured and a pretty good runner in this event. With all the poor and injured runners in front of him, if he posts a great time, he might just slip into the medals.

Should be interesting...

EVENT 10 - 1500 METERS

The runners line up at the starting line, and it is a sight to see. Braces, bandages and wraps appear predominantly on many competitors. Knowing how much they are hurting, I'll be surprised if we don't get at least 1 athlete that decides he's had enough.

The gun sounds and the mass of arms and legs begins its first lap. As expected Cat jumps out to an early lead. Elli, who knows Cat is the man to beat, strategically positioned himself right on Cat's heals and he'll probably attempt to stay with the 1500 Meter specialist the rest of the way. If he can do it, it might mean a place on the medal platform. Gunner and Soldier round out the runners who were quick off the line. The rest are pretty tightly bunched, except for Lesgettham and Nights who trail the big back by a few strides.

Elli and Cat continue to run stride for stride out in front, with Gunner, Soldier and now Pflaggstettler and Palmer are in the next group. Gonzalez has fallen off the pace and he now finds himself only strides ahead of Lesgettham who is still in the back of the pack. An interesting development, Babson who was surprisingly out of the gate in good time and hanging towards the front of the main pack, walked off the track when he crossed the finish line the first time. Apparently the injury is too much and he's had enough.

Palmer despite his injury is barely hanging on to the tales of Solider and Gunner. Pflaggstettler's pace slowed significantly and he now finds himself much closer to 7th place Yellope than to Palmer. Elli has sort of lost contact with Cat, but he's still ahead of the next group by a wide margin. Lesgettham and Gonzalez are in the back. In the main pack - Yellope leads, followed by Mighty and Kappe a few strides back. Mello, who was hanging in the group with Mighty and Kappe has dropped back and is now running stride for stride with Nights.

Cat and Elli are keeping their pace and are closing in on the finish line. The space between Soldier, Gunner and Palmer has tightened up quite a bit. Pflaggstettler has so far been able to hold off Yellope. Kappe has tried to close on Yellope, but he's been unsuccessful. Mighty, who was fighting in that group appears to be cramping up and his speed has dropped way off. In fact he's been passed by Mello and Lesgettham, Gonzalez and Nights are closing rapidly. That cramp may have killed any hopes Mighty had of a medal.

Cat is the first to cross the finish line with a time of 4:16

A few seconds later Elli, who put in a monsterous effort crosses at 4:22.

The next group of 3 runners, Palmer, Gunner, and Soldier are very tightly bunched. They approach the finish line and cross:

Gunner(4:34), Soldier (4:35) and Palmer (4:36).

Pflaggstettler is able to hold off Yellope and he finishes with a time of 4:48. Yellope holds off Kappe with a time of 4:58. Kappe crosses at 5:04.

Gonzalez was attempting to pull away from the rest of his group and he was actually rapidly closing in on Kappe, when he pulled up lame and limped off the track.

Mighty who has been hop-running do to his cramp, has been passed by everyone and now finds himself in last.

The next group to cross the line, crosses simultaneously: Lesgettham, Mello, Nights (5:14).

Mighty comes hopping over the line at 5:24.

INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS

Thanks for the kind words guys. Glad you enjoyed it - I enjoyed doing it. Now on to the observations.

The medal winnners all avoided injury while the next 4 in the standings all finished within 150 points of 3rd and all had an injury to deal with.

The most interesting of those 4 were Nights and Mighty. Nights suffered his injury on the last throw in the javelin, so it hadn't affected any of his other scores, and Mighty got his while running the 1500 so his only affected that one event as well.

Had Nights not taken his last throw in the javelin and suffered his injury he would have gotten an additional 55 points, which would have given him the bronze medal. Mighty suffered an injury late in the event, without that injury he would have gotten another 53 points, only good enough to jump Lesgettham.

Lesgettham and Yellope both did real well, extremely impressive for both because they suffered penalties in 5 and 6 events respectively.

Gunner was extremely dominating. Decathlon isn't really about where you finish, but how well you do in each event - however, finishing at the top of each event will certainly guarantee you a high place on the leaderboard. Gunner's meet when like this:
- Tied for 6th
- Tied for 4th
- 2nd
- 1st
- Tied for 7th
- 3rd
- 2nd
- Tied for 6th
- 3rd
- 3rd

Not bad. In case you were wondering Gunner's card checked the following tables:
- C
- A
- A
- A
- C
- B
- A
- B
- A
- C

We'll do this again at some point in the future if the interest is there to justify it. I'm going to try and add some more skills into the equation to create more separation within the competitors and I'll probably add another 1 or 2 columns to the creation phase for the same reason.

Thanks again to the 13 that were active throughout the entire dynasty.

Loved it... and finishing 3rd is probably about the Max I could hope for with my non-athletic, but willful competitor.

Thanks again!
