I looked at that last season myself(it looks like TE/FB/C/K is a weakness in recruiting for both of us, I wonder if that's a systemic issue in the game in general), and most of my RB's just didn't have the strength to be effective FB's. I might seriously consider looking at my DE's and how they would convert(assuming its possible/allowed) at the start of next season.

We're doing great so far on the recruiting front. I finally feel like we're getting some good "support players", such as center, guard, and fullback. I've had a lot of trouble finding those players but Ive had good luck this year.

Wow. D.C. Jefferson played poorly, throwing 2 INT's.

But the story of this game is sophmore running back Robert Mills. Mills ran for a total of 290 yards today on 37 attempts. He had 2 TD's, and picking up over 7 YPC.

2011 Week Fifteen:

Recruiting:

Well, what looked to be a solid class has me concerned. Don't get me wrong...we are getting some good players. But when I thought we had a 4* fullback, a solid punter, better depth for the offensive line, basically filling in positions that have been impossible to fill, I feel let down. We have a ton of RB's and WR's that look like sure things to come in, but I can't use all of them.

At least some of these soft-commits held out until the off-season. Maybe I can pry them away then.

vs.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (9-3) vs. #23 Purdue Boilermakers (9-3)

Nice! We stuck it to the Boilermakers, and won a close game. Jefferson played pretty average, going 12 of 24 for 131 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.

The real story here, once again, is Mills. On 35 carries, he picked up 241 yards on the ground with 2 TD's. Great job!

Final Score: Rutgers 29, Purdue 21

See you in 2012!

#1 Oklahoma vs. #2 Notre Dame

Kind of a surprising game here. Notre Dame opened up the game with 14 straight points and never let up.

Their defense probably won them the game though. They held Oklahoma to just 39 rushing yards, and also held them to 1 for 11 on 3rd down.

Oklahoma loses it's 2nd national championship game in a row after winning the 2009 game.

Congratulations, Fighting Irish. You are the 2011 National Champions!

2011 Recap:

Great year. We finished 9-3 in the regular season, then won our bowl game against a ranked team.

The games that we lost were close ones as well. I can't really ask for more. We're still getting better and it's only a matter of time before we take the next step.

Here are some stat leaders:

QB D.C. Jefferson. JR(RS). 204-334, 2536 Yards, 26 TD's-10 INT's, sacked 23 times.

RB Robert Mills. SO(RS). 319 Att. 1993 Yards (Led the NCAA in yards). 6.2 YPC. 17 TD's.

WR Keith Stroud. JR(RS). 73 Receptions. 822 Yards. 11.2 YPR. 10 TD's.

OLB Manny Abreu. SR(RS). 81 Tackles.

DE Desmond Wynn. SR(RS). 8 Sacks.

CB Clayton House. SR. 3 INT's.

K San San Te. SR(RS). 16-21 FG's.

Players Leaving

Well, I can't really blame these guys for wanting to leave. Losing Forst is going to kill me. I would lose 4 out of my 5 starting linemen. Stroud is also a tough loss. I'm gonna spend a little time trying to convince them to come back, but my hours are precious this off-season.

Starter

WR Keith Stroud. 6'5", 190 lbs. JR(RS). 87 OVR - Pro Draft
LT Art Forst. 6'8", 290 lbs. JR(RS). 90 OVR - Pro Draft

FB Jourdan Brooks. 6'1", 255 lbs. SR(RS). 80 OVR
LT Desmond Stapleton. 6'5", 320 lbs. SR(RS). 81 OVR
LG Keith Newell. 6'6", 290 lbs. SR(RS). 85 OVR
RG Caleb Ruch. 6'4", 290 lbs. SR(RS). 89 OVR
RT Richard Muldrow. 6'6", 300 lbs. SR(RS). 86 OVR

DE Desmond Wynn. 6'6", 260 lbs. SR(RS). 85 OVR

DT Wayne Thomas. 6'5", 280 lbs. SR(RS). 88 OVR
DE Alex Silvestro. 6'4", 230 lbs. SR(RS). 86 OVR
OLB Manny Abreu. 6'3", 220 lbs. SR(RS). 94 OVR
CB Clayton House. 6'0", 194 lbs. SR. 77 OVR
K San San Te. 5'9", 165 lbs. SR(RS). 87 OVR

Results

I started off by spending 40 minutes with Forst. He told me he needed some time to think about it. Great.

Stroud was another story. After only 20 minutes, he broke down and told me he wasn't ready for the next level and needed another year of college ball.

With that over with, let's get back to Forst. I need him. Bad. I spent another 25 minutes with him, but he was intent on getting paid for his skills. I can't blame him, but I'm screwed at tackle now.

WR Keith Stroud. 6'5", 190 lbs. JR(RS). 87 OVR - Pro Draft (Staying)
LT Art Forst. 6'8", 290 lbs. JR(RS). 90 OVR - Pro Draft (Leaving)

2012 Off-Season:

Off-Season Recruiting:

Week One:

First things first...let's fill up this board. I lost a lot of players, so I went through the database and found some players that could potentially sign with us last minute.

The next thing I wanna do is make a final push for a lot of the players that have soft-committed to other schools. Last year I got lucky and stole some away with a final push.

After doing that, I went through and talked to everyone who didn't have me first on their list. I still have some time leftover. Also, I basically promised all of those players that they would get good national exposure at our school.

Now, I'm going to use the rest of my time to schedule visits with any players that have us listed as 1st but have someone else at a close 2nd.

Week Two:

Hell yea! We landed eight recruits at the start of the week, including 4* DE Guererro who had soft-committed to another team previously! I noticed that some of the players who had soft-committed still hadn't gotten a scholarship from the team they committed to.

Here's our haul for this week:

ATH Wright 4*
HB Torrey 4*
DE Guerrero 4*
WR Green 3*
WR Mullins 3*
DE Smith 3*
FB Hollinsworth 2*
MLB Carter 2*

I went through the rest of the players with scholarship offers from us and set up visits with them either this week or next. I also offered my three remaining scholarships to some of the new guys.

Week Three:

Yes!! Another nine commitments today!

HB Tautofi 4*
OLB Lawrence 4*
HB Roberson 4*
WR Brown 4*
ATH Williams 3*
HB Archer 3*
HB Mack 3*
WR Patrick 3*
P Latimer 2*

Things are looking up. I got a lot of the guys I was pissed off about soft-committing.

The plan now is to fill out the rest of my roster, and getting some of these new guys I added in is key.

Week Four:

Seven scholarships left. Ten players left on the board. Let's see how we did.

We start off the week by getting word of four more commitments.

DT Townsend 3*
WR Busing 3*
SS Morton 2*
K O'Brien 1*

Three scholarships left now. G Brown has me listed as his #3, and QB McDaniel has me at #2. The game is letting me offer a scholarship to other players, but I'm not sure what happens if they all decide to commit. Do they let me choose? I don't want to take a chance on that right now. I spent a ton of time with McDaniel and Brown. Let's see what they decide to do.

Week Five:

Well, no one bit this week. And no one moved me up in their interest ranking. A few of them want to visit though, so I'll just keep it going and hope for the best. Although at this point, I'm just going to offer all of them (except the kicker) a scholarship.
And that wraps it up! After concluding the final week, the tackle and the lesser of the QB's committed to other teams. But these three players will be in scarlet red next year:

QB McDaniel 3*
G Brown 2*
TE Barber 1*

Position Changes

This should be fun. With 5 new RB's, and 5 new WR's, I'm hoping I can move some of them around.

RB Martin to FB
WR Green to CB
G Brown to T
P Latimer to K
ATH Wright to SS
ATH Williams to RB

Well, it wasn't as fun as I though. The game seems pretty limited when it comes to position changes. I was hoping to move a DE to FB or something fun like that. Plus, it's rediculous that Martin, an 89 speed goes down to 70 speed when moved to FB.

I'm excited about a lot of the players I got, but I definitely missed out on some spots. My offensive line is just plain bad right now, but I definitely am set at the skill positions for a long time.

Let's take a look at what my goals were.

Quote:
Major Needs:

Fullback: Once again, we'll be looking for a fullback. We really need one this time.

I almost landed a 4* FB, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm still not happy with this position, but I ended up getting enough new running backs to allow me to move an existing one to FB. We'll see how it works out.

Quote:
Wide Receiver: Last year we skimped here, but we'll have a lot of guys getting ready to leave at the same time. Now is the time to get at least one solid new guy in here to groom for the future.

Yea. We got a ton of new guys here. One 4* and four 3*'s.

Quote:
Tight End: This could be our biggest need. Our starter is rated a 57.

Eh. Got nothin' here this year. And none of our WR's looked like they could convert either. I still suck at TE.

Quote:
Guard: Our interior depth is just plain terrible. I'd like to get a future starter and maybe a solid JUCO for depth.

I *almost* had two 4* guards, but I had to settle for one. My offensive line looks dreadful right now, so I'm really pissed.

Quote:
Tackle: Our two starter's are a JR and SR, and the two guys developing beneath them aren't sure things. I'd love to get a great run blocker.

Totally missed this one. I wasn't even looking for a stud, but I missed out on all three targets.

Quote:
Kicker: Definitely in need of one after the fiasco last recruiting season.

Well, I recruited yet another 1* K and again, he turned out to be a 40-something. So, I moved the punter I recruited over to kicker. He'll do for now.

Quote:
Punter: With a walk on punting for us, I'd like to get someone who didn't come in off the streets.

Got one, but moved him to kicker. The walk-on will be fine for another year.

Minor Needs:

Quote:
Defensive Tackle: I love our guys there now, but I'd love to get a guy to groom under Vallone.

Landed a 3* recruit here. Nothing special but he'll provide some depth.

Quote:
Defensive End: Not a huge need, but I'd love to get a sack-machine to go along with Page.

Really lucked out here. Geurerro had soft-committed somewhere else but I stole him back. He looks great and will probably start this year.

Quote:
Middle Linebacker: I haven't had a great player here yet. Our two OLB's are great and the future looks good there, but I need a speedy tackler to put in between them.

Still don't have the solid player I'm looking for, but I did get a 2* player here.

Quote:
Strong Safety: Scott is a project and I'd like more of a sure thing.

I got a 2* recruit here and also moved a 4* ATH to SS. We'll see how that goes.

Roster Cuts

This is going to be really hard. I'm at 83 right now, which means I have to cut 13 players.

DE Ross, 73
WR Pratt, 76
RB Clarke, 74
TE Barber, 55

2012 Pre-Season Notes
Returning Starters:

14 (6 Offense, 8 Defense)

Key Losses:

LT Art Forst. 6'8", 290 lbs. JR(RS). 90 OVR - Pro Draft

Forst was the anchor of our line at both RT for a while and then LT last year. Our offensive line is in shambles without him.

FB Jourdan Brooks. 6'1", 255 lbs. SR(RS). 80 OVR
I've been having trouble finding a successor at fullback. I never found one, so losing Brooks hurts.

LG Keith Newell. 6'6", 290 lbs. SR(RS). 85 OVR
RG Caleb Ruch. 6'4", 290 lbs. SR(RS). 89 OVR
RT Richard Muldrow. 6'6", 300 lbs. SR(RS). 86 OVR

I'm grouping these three together because they were all starters on the offensive line. I'm very worried about the running game.

DE Desmond Wynn. 6'6", 260 lbs. SR(RS). 85 OVR
DE Alex Silvestro. 6'4", 230 lbs. SR(RS). 86 OVR
OLB Manny Abreu. 6'3", 220 lbs. SR(RS). 94 OVR

Losing both DE's, as well as my best OLB is tough, but I at least have some replacements lined up.

K San San Te. 5'9", 165 lbs. SR(RS). 87 OVR

Te has always been reliable, and I've yet to find a replacement as good as he was.

Mills dominated last year. Could we see him as in the Heisman race? He led the NCAA in rushing yards last year, and he's gotten ever better. I can't wait to see what we get out of this kid. We have a ton of new faces for the future, as well.

Pipeline:

Our pipeline states are NJ, NY, PA, and FL.

Major Needs:

Strong Safety: Carter is leaving after this season and I don't have a surefire replacement ready yet. I need to try and get a blue chip prospect to step in right away.

Middle Linebacker: With Legrand in his last year, we have the same deal as above. Capable players beneath him, but no sure-things.

Tackle/Guard: Need a lot of players for the line. I need at least two tackles and two guards.

Tight End: Still searching.

Fullback: Not sure how the converted RB will do. I'd like a true FB.

Defensive Tackle: Vallone is graduating and Page is always a risk to leave for the draft. I definitely need some major help here.

Minor Needs:

Cornerback: I love our corner situation but our 3rd/4th are in their JR or SR years. Plus, My two starters are sophmores, and that's the best time to get the future starters in.

With such talent at the skill positions on offense, but such an average offensive line, it will be real interesting to see how your offense performs this year. Good luck, keep it up!

2012 Week One:

Recruiting:

Another long process of stocking talent has begun. I'm going to try a similar strategy to what I did last year.

First thing I want to do is offer everyone who has us listed as #1 a scholarship. If I can get them out of the way now, I won't have to spend any extra time on them.

And we get three commitments! 4* OLB Herring, 3* TE Baker, and 2* Fields have committed to us. Woot!

Now I'm going to offer a scholarship to the top player at each position.

I then went through my need positions and spent some time with as many players as possible.
