FOOL 2036 Regular Season

2 more hours until FOOL's 76th season!

Just a reminder so everyone sees it:

We are simming every night this week. Special nightly sims each evening for our expansion this offseason!

**NOTE this includes a sim Wednesday night**

So no off day mid-week this week, sorry for the inconvenience. Blame Timguru and Dark Cloud!

As for this upcoming season, this one is very incredibly difficult for me to predict. After Napa Valley's trade for Lemieux, I am not sure that there is a single team that I think is a "clinch" to make the playoffs for the first time in a very long time.

Three different teams sport New Jerseys for this upcoming season!

Defending FOOL champs Chico Rebels sport a new logo and new jersey as modeled by Commissioner's Award winner Frank Dawson

The Edmonton Edge unveiled during the offseason their new uniform as you can see here worn by team leader Dan Broomhead:

The Tokyo Cyclones also have a new uniform for the 2036 season as seen here by Cyclones 1B Juteau:

The Colorado Rancheros during the offseason made some modification to their ballpark, shortening up the fences slightly and decreasing the foul territory some as well. It was noticed during spring training that it caused a small increase in offense for the Rancheros.

Have quite the laundry list of PMs to wade through for team instructions. So likely another 10 minutes I'm guessing.

Yep, no roster space means he spends the year tearing up AAA for you!

Ok, all set with transactions. Everyone comes in under the cap and only that dirty, cheating Edmonton owner had a transaction infraction that I took care of.

Time to kick off the season! Away we go!

Hitting streak carried over from last season:

Friday, April 4th, 2036: Cyclones Snap Yang's Streak at 23
Boston third baseman Yin-fat Yang experienced something against the Tokyo Cyclones he hadn't experienced in his last 23 games: a hitless game. The Cyclones pitching corps quieted his hot bat and snapped his streak, but his teammates picked up the slack to lead the Settlers to a 7-6 victory at Ballpark of Boston.

"Hey, ain't nothin' bad about a losing a 23-game hitting streak. Now you sportswriters will have to find someone else to bother for stories," Yang kiddingly told them after the game.

Mireles starts the season off with back to back shutouts in his first two starts:

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2036: Mireles Fires Shutout in Boston Win
All went well for Eduardo Mireles of the Boston Settlers as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Baltimore Charm, limiting them to 3 hits while ringing up 6 strikeouts and surrendering 1 walk.

In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Mireles.

His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."

The Baltimore skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."

Monday, April 7th, 2036: Mireles Shackles Edmonton
Eduardo Mireles of the Boston Settlers just toyed with the Edmonton Edge today, blanking them 6-0. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 6-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts and no walks.

"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Mireles said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."

One of his teammates said it was easy to play behind him today. "It was like he's just playing with the hitters and doing whatever he wanted to do."

Tuesday, April 8th, 2036: Long Collects Hit Number 2000
By going 1-for-2 in the Edmonton 2-1 win over Boston, Dave Long reached the 2000-hit mark. The Edge Ballpark fans, friend and foe, burst into applause and Long's teammates hugged and congratulated him on his achievement.

"The guys began the countdown weeks ago," said the newest member of the 2000 Club. "I don't know who was more excited -- them or me."

Lifetime Long is hitting .277 with 2000 hits, 214 home runs, 1134 runs scored and 989 RBIs.

Wednesday, April 9th, 2036: Quiñones Packs a Wallop -- Hits 3 HR Against Cyclones
Álex Quiñones went on a hitting rampage at Assasins Ballpark today and got membership in the select club of hitters who have hit three home runs in a game. He walloped three into the stands to pace the Assassins to a 13-8 victory over the Tokyo Cyclones.

The Apex third baseman collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 7 and scored 3 runs.

After his three-home run game he said this to the press: "I have been making solid contact lately, but not getting any lift. Today I got it up in the air and out of the ballpark. I had my home run swing down pat. Got some good pitches to hit, too."

Á. Quiñones hit a solo-shot off Z. Geracimos in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Z. Geracimos in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off J. Brooks in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

So far this year in 9 games Quiñones is hitting .455 with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

Wednesday, April 9th, 2036: 3-HR Day for Ward
The fans at Harpooners Ballpark witnessed Brennan Ward write his name into the league record book with three home runs, but the Hartford Harpooners still dropped the decision to the Chico Rebels 10-5.

He spoke with reporters after his historic day and told them, "I've always loved hitting in Harpooners Ballpark. You can see the ball so well. I'm glad I got the homers, but three hits and a win would be nicer."

For the day he collected 3 hits in 3 at-bats, scored 3 runs and had 5 RBIs.

B. Ward hit a two-run home run off K. Hsi in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off K. Hsi in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off K. Hsi in the 5th and walked in the 8th.

Looking at his season stats, Ward has compiled a .455 batting average and a .514 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 7 runs.

Thursday, April 10th, 2036: Taylor Belts 3 HR Against Edmonton
Going... Going... Gone!

Gavin Taylor did it three times in the Baltimore 6-3 victory over the Edmonton Edge.
Three home runs in one game! "I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."

Commenting after the game to the press, the elated Taylor explained, "I tell you what, I was so shocked because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."

For the day the Baltimore first baseman went 3-4 against Edmonton with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.

G. Taylor grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off W. Martin in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off W. Martin in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off C. Joo in the 8th.

During the current season Taylor is batting at a .333 clip with 6 home runs and 12 RBIs. He has played in 10 games and scored 9 times.

Monday, April 21st, 2036: 3 Bombs for Luis Torres
It was a day for the record book for New York left fielder Luis Torres. He walloped three out of New York Grounds against the Hooligans. But not even a three-homer game could prevent the Heroes from losing 9-7 to Hammersmith today.

"We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em... we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," the New York skipper quipped after the loss.

Torres celebrated nonetheless as his name will now be added to the league archives. He was 3-4 for the day, batting in 6 runs and scoring 3 times.

"I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Torres said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time."

L. Torres hit a solo-shot off M. González in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off M. González in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off M. González in the 5th and struck out in the 7th.

In 2036 Torres has produced 26 hits in 82 at-bats for a .317 average with 7 home runs and gotten on base at a .385 clip.

Thursday, May 1st, 2036: RL Announces April's Best Starter
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Naofumi Ueda still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 31-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 36 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.17 ERA in 48.1 innings of work.

Thursday, May 1st, 2036: RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
A boyish Carlos Peña emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chico deserved the honor, batting .364 with 1 home run and 11 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Peña enjoy the limelight.

But the good news is he and I are still speaking.

AND when those prospects are working out for him I'll suck and be no threat to Baltimore so you and I will still be speaking and I think we can all agree that we all just really want to keep talking to me.

Where's Chief? I need to gloat about how I finally made the right guy unavailable for trade.
