Jack Snow, R.I.P.

Former LA Rams' wide receiver and STL Rams radio announcer Jack Snow has died from a staph infection.

Sigh.

I heard about his illness while I was on the road Sunday night listening to the game.

That sucks. My older brother was a huge Rams fan and Jack Snow was one of his favorite players. I remember he had a poster hanging up in his room of Jack Snow. I was a little kid and kept calling him Jack Frost which pissed my brother off to no end.

I will always associate him with my earliest set of Topps football cards, this one in particular:

Sad thing to hear.

I started watching football in 1969 and Jack Snow was playing for my Rams. I remember they would always say that "Jack doesn't have great speed but he has never been caught from behind when he has the football".

My favorite memory was the Rams playing the Vikings, maybe 1973 or 74. My Dad and brothers were all Viking fans and I somehow ended up liking the Rams. Every time they played the Vikes would win until this game.

Rams were down less than a TD with time running out in the fourth qtr. I believe James Harris was the QB but whoever it was kept hitting Snow with out routes for about 10 yards at a clip against the Vikes bend don't break end of game defense. It seemed like he threw to him 8 or 9 straight plays, all to the sideline and Jack would get out of bounds. It ended with Snow catching a TD pass and me having bragging rights for the first time.

62 is way to young, RIP Jack.

That card was one of my favorites. From the pose to the white shoes, still a pretty new thing at the time.

Cool story, and believe it or not, I have a vague recollection of that game. I am a long-time Vikes' fan myself.

Hmm, I grew up during that time period and that must have been a regular season game, cause the Rams used to come to the Met during the playoffs and get their ass whipped because of the weather.

Sad to hear that. He was one of the all time great Domers. He helped Huarte win the Heisman.

Game was in LA or Anaheim, can't recall if they had already moved out of the Colleseum at the time.

73 or 74 they still had to be at the Coliseum? Remember the mud game the Vikings and Rams played there in the late 70's?

That is so strange. I knew him from a football card as well, but it was the 76 Topps or something. He reminded me of Snow Miser.

Postcript on the Vikings/Rams connection:

He was originally drafted by Minnesota, as the 1.8 pick in the 1965 NFL draft. The weird thing is I cannot find any information on how he got to the Rams that year. He never actually played for the Vikings. Anyone know more?
