Minor league organist ejected.............

For playing "Three Blind Mice" after a questionable call by an umpire in a game. Thoughts?

I worked in minor league baseball for four years and saw plenty of power hungry/attention hungry umpires in my time, especially given the fact that in most cases the umpires are only a few years older than the players (especially at the lower levels). While this is surely an extreme example, I'm not surprised that a minor league umpire tried to be the star of the show.

The Royals organist used to do that all the time at the games. I can remember laughing every time.

Yes. I remember this at some Padres games, but, it was usually when a Padre stood there and looked at a called 3rd strike.

A minor league umpire? That's like an on-call bag boy for a grocery store.

Wow! I think I know a minor league ump that isn't making the majors. What a jackass.

Oh wait. Angel Hernandez has had a long MLB career. Never mind, this kid's got as good a chance as anyone.

This was actually kinda predictable & certainly not without precedent (two of which involved, you guessed it, Angel Hernandez). It's also well within the scope of the rules for the ump to toss him.

I can't believe no one knew or remembered the most famous of these ejections. It was the Phillies Clearwater organist. I know because my mom knew his daughter, and he took us to a Braves/Phillies game and we got to sit 5th row behind home plate for what ended up being one of Steve Carlton's last starts with the Phillies in 1986 (5 IP, 0 R). Wilbur was his name.

Man, good thing ejection rules never applied to hockey. We would have had to eject the entire student section before they added a 2nd ref and made singing "3 blind mice" when they first came out in pregame irrelevant.

Well, I guess its well within the scope of the dictionary, and the law to declare the umpire legally blind with a blown call, since he obviously can't see correctly, but it doesn't happen. The umpire has incredibly bad judgement.
