Wild Finish to one of the Non-ESPN WSOP Events

From the ESPN WSOP Poker Blog:

Wild scene at the early-morning finish of Pot Limit Omaha. Rafi Amit has about a 5-1 chip lead over Vinny Vinh after playing heads-up for about two hours. Then Amit utters a naughty word, which is overheard by the tournament director, who issues a 10-minute penalty. This, mind you with a gold bracelet within reach. Amit's supporters went nuts - security had to be called to escort some of them out - and Amit had to be held back at times during his timeout as he continued to be blinded off, and this was no little thing, what with blinds at $8,000-$16,000. So, Amit was losing $24,000 a round, and suddenly Vinh went from $120,000 to a stack of $330,000. Finally, at 4 a.m., after the penalty, after another hour of heads-up play, Amit copped the bracelet.

So from roughly 600k to 120 K to 390K to 330K, dayumn.. I wish I could see this melt down on TV

Was this a new rule made this year? We heard many beeps over last year's WSOP coverage.

Yes, it is new this year.

If it is interesting and ESPN could get cameras over there, I wouldn't be surprised to see some "bonus" coverage of this happening get to the air.

so with this new rule, Freddy Deeb plays what, 2 hands an hour and just blinds off the rest of the time?

Who knows (regarding bonus coverage)? They already have two tournaments they weren't going to cover...so maybe they got it in.

I'm surprised they wouldn't cover the 10K omaha event as it is. If you're going to cover one, why not the one that had the deepest field/biggest buy-in?

That's a pretty bleeping stupid rule. We're talking about bleeping gambling here, not some church picnic.

Is it because some people find Omaha boring?

The field wasn't that deep -- I think 164 entries -- and the field wasn't as strong as it was for the $5k PL Omaha. I don't know enough about the workings of the WSOP to understand why some events draw loaded fields and others don't. ESPN this year definitely seems to be going for events loaded with stars.

I'm sure you'll also see the footage of the meltdown on ESPN. IIRC, they covered just about every event last year, especially the final tables, even if it wasn't the focus of the episode. It may be the $5k PL Omaha show, but they'll show highlights from other tourneys.

But yet amazingly the are showing Razz on an episode ... ugh.

edit: check that. They showed Razz last year, but not this year.

No, that's not it at all. They're showing Omaha events. Just not the 10K, which I find odd.

They already lay out the tournaments they'll be showing before the series. So, it's not like they're seeing the final table and then figuring they'll shoot it. That happened in the cases of Doyle and Johnny Chan, but that's because they were special moments. The rest are pre-determined.

That said, I have to look to see if the 10K is being shown. I am not certain, but I didn't read anything about the ESPN crews on CardPlayer.
