FM 12 - Arsenal run by a German, oh my ...
Thought i try my hand at this Not sure how detailed it´ll be, but i´m going to do my best. Won´t be much in way of a fictional backstory, but more report style. I´ll try to post some pictures though ! I will try to stick to a couple ground rules regarding transfers without ruining the fun of it. Basically the goal is to get a tight-knit group without all that much turnover, in terms of young players i will limit myself to a max of 4 U21 players every 2 years (can be 2+2 or 4+0), only 2 of those can be 18 or younger. (i allready messed up in that regard in the first season, 3 of the guys i got i allready sent away again so they won´t count as far as i´m concerned ) I am going to start this off in the 2nd season, here is how my first season went : Champions League : Quarterfinal, lost to Barcelon (0-6 ; 4-3) Carling Cup : Lost in semif final FA Cup : Lost in Final Stats of the roster : edit : Sorry for the small screen, will try to have a look at it in photobucket.

Season 2 pre-season
Playing philosophy and tactics: I am trying to play attacking football, but i am not looking to dominate the ball. I would like my team(s) to create chances, but i want them to do it before the oposition is finished setting up their defense. 4-2-3-1 this is my standard starting tactic, which emphasizes "triangles" up front and encourages players to roam quite a bit. Of the 2 central midfielders, there is one playmaker and 1 utility guy (if i go more offensive so does he, if i pack it in he becomes a true defensive midfielder). On the left side i prefer a guy who can finish, having to do with the fact that Sagna/Walcott gett behind the defense for crosses frequently. The attacking midfielder has a fair bit of freedom, but is not a playmaker but rather a player in space, i.e. he doesn´t get a ton of touches but has absolute freedom to go for the big play. Up front i prefer a good football player over a pure poacher, he´s asked to build thos triangles with the AMC and the AMR/AML and move into spaces but also to come short for passes. 4-3-1-2 This is my attacking tactic with 2 strikers and 2 de-facto wingers (and an AMC). Works only with Song available really, the AMC is asked to come get the ball and play a bit deeper than in the standard tactic, while up front i´m going the classic "goal scorer + creator that moves in open space" route if possible. 4-1-2-2-1 my counter attack tactic with a real DMC behind 2 CMs that both have offensive and defensive duties. Both wingers drop a little deeper than in the standard tactic. The team´s depth chart acording to my new assistant manager (Pat Rice retired) : Transfers for the 2012/2013 season : Goal : Wojciech Szczesny (55/0/0/7,12) Rene Adler Damian Martinez Szczesny will likely start the season as the No1 Keeper, but Adler will get his games to prove himself after sitting out most of last season with injury and being replaced by upstart-GK Bernd Leno. Martinez has some potential to be a good keeper and might be worth a look as the No2 keeper in 2,3 years when Adler moves on. The team is in very good shape in this area and there won´t be any movement for the foreseeable future. Defense Wing: Bakary Sagna Gonzalo Castro Andre Santos Kieran Gibbs Brett Emerton Carl Jenkinson Sagna is one of the teams key figures and will be the starter at RB, whereas Santos currently has the upper hand over Gibbs on the left. Castro is a player that can play multiple positions and will hopefully live up to his potential and provide cover all over the pitch. Brett Emerton was a sentimental signing in the last winter transfer and offers adequate play and great mentality on and off the pitch. Jenkinson has whole in his game but also some interestingly high attributes, pet project of mine to get him to develop. Refused to go on loan, i´m cooling on him as we speak ... Defense Center: Per Mertesacker Thomas Vermaelen Laurent Koscielny Johan Djourou Sébastien Squillaci Kyle Bartley very crowded position, there will likely be a fair share of rotation after the concept worked pretty well last season. I will have to see how it goes when it comes to big matches, so far i couldn´t say whome of the first 4 will get the nod. Central Midfield: Alex Song Mikael Arteta Jack Wilshere (full disclosure : I edited out his injury in the editor prior to the game, but did so with about 20 other players on various clubs as well, so it wasn´t intentional) Walter Montillo Aaron Ramsey Thomas Rosicky Gonzalo Castro Arteta played a great season in a playmaking role next to Song and is exactly the type of player i love IRL. Has a firm grip on that spot for the next couple years, while Wilshere is a star in the making at AMC. Montillo will also challenge for a starting spot at either the playmaking spot or the AMC spot, with Ramsey being next in line for the 2 offensive minded roles and Castro as the backup for Song. Rosicky is a long time favourite of mine and will hopefully stay healthy enough to make a contribution, after suffering another knee injury last february, the outlook isn´t too good i´m afraid. Wing Midfielders: Theo Walcott Park Chu Young Lukas Podolski Gervinho Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Ryo Miyaichi Walcott had a splendid season on the right wing and has looked much better than i initially expected. On the left side Park Chu Young somewhat surprisingly emerged as my top player in the position, playing more of an inside-forward role he stepped into the lineup with Gervinho first injured and that at the Africa Cup. After he outplayed him by quite a bit, he went on to have a firm grip on the starting spot by the end of the season. Oxlade-Chamberlain had a very good initial season, had ups and downs but overall put in some very good performances and will feature prominently this season again. Gervinho might be the odd man out here, i´ll see what happens. Podolski won´t just be handed the starting spot, but i hope he plays well enough to grab it eventually, as i´m afraid that Park´s form can´t be that way forever. Podolski will also provide cover for Van Persie or play alongside him in my newly planned alternative 4-4-2 tactic. Miyaici might go on loan again at some point, first i want to get my hands on him to assess his potential and abilities better, no idea how much PT he´ll get. Strikers: Robin Van Persie Marouane Chamakh Joel Campbell Van Persie is obviously the star of the team and will allways start when it matters and when healthy, that however was a rather big "if" last season. If i´m going 4-4-2, Chamakh will have to battle Podolski and Park as well. Campbell has the looks of a very nice Poacher/counter attack striker, will get tutoring and some games to see what he got. August 2012: Quote:
really couldn´t have gone much smoother, qualifying for the Champions League again was obviously huge and thankfully accomplished relatively easily. Park went down

Tough loss to Aston Villa, made even worse du to injuries to both Park and Van Persie, Park will be out for 2 months while Van Persie about 6 weeks.

a stellar month of october for the team, especially the wins over Schalke and Man City have gotten my hopes up considerably Especially with Van Persie out. Quote:
Podolski goes down with a hip injury that will keep him sideline for about 2 months, Van Persie pulls a harmstring on the Netherlands Team. Rough stretch, huge win at Spartak though to assure qualification for the Round of 16 of the champions league ! Quote:
2 bad losses against Chelsea and ManU seed some doubt in my mind, the old Arsenal theme of "score or be scored on" rears it´s head, i go away from rotating my DCs and stick largely with Mertesacker and Koscielny, with only Vermaelen rotating in here and there. Robin Van Persie had a great month and stays healthy for now.
