Headline: Portsmouth docked points
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before today’s games in the EPL it was decided that Portsmouth is deducted 9 Premier Division points for going into administration. This moves Portsmouth from the save spot at 17th in the league and down to last in the league 4 points behind Birmingham and 7 points under the relegation line.
This almost finished up the relegation picture in this years EPL season as the 18th and last team to be relegated Burnley now got 10 points up to the next team with only 5 games left to play.
Southampton was also deducted 10 points in the Coca-Cola League 1 earlier this year. Despite that Southampton still have a real chance to move up a division this year.

Headline: Portsmouth relegated
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It just got from bad to worse for Portsmouth. With yesterdays loss the team is now the first to be relegated from the English Premier League this season. With just 15 points left to play for there is now way they can make it to safety.
Portsmouth's six games without scoring from Sunday 21st February 2010 is a new English Premier League record.
All Portsmouth players have been transfer listed (many of them on free transfers) and the Liverpool scouts is now working overtime to find out if there are any of the players that might have a future on Anfield. Its especially young talents Liverpool will be looking at.

Liverpool fans are gearing up to welcome Sporting CP fans travelling 1055 miles from Lisbon in Portugal to Liverpool for their European Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg match.
A tight match is expected but fans of The Reds are hopeful that their side, who are slight favourites, can come through with a win. Liverpool are in pole position after winning the first leg by a comfortable 4 - 0 scoreline at Estádio José Alvalade Século XXI.

Thomas Northwood was not giving much away as he met journalists ahead of Liverpool's match against Sporting Clube de Portugal - SAD in the European Champions League Quarter Final.
A journalist from BBC Radio 5 live chose the main focus point for the conference, asking, "Liverpool are in pole position after winning the first leg by a comfortable 4 - 0 scoreline at Estádio José Alvalade Século XXI. Having secured a comfortable first leg victory away from home you must be confident of putting this tie to bed in front of your own fans. Can you get the job done?"
Northwood's response was, "I am confident as long as we stick to our game plan."
When asked about Steven Gerrard Northwood quickly closed down all talk about him playing this game.
It is thought that the Liverpool squad should react well to Northwood's handling of the question.

For the first time since week 2 of the regular season Liverpool is no longer one of the top two teams in the league. That was clear after Man City today won 2-0 over Hull and moved in to second place on a better goal difference. The problem for City is that the only have 5 games left to play while Liverpool got 7.

MATCH REPORT:
Liverpool 2 - 0 Sporting Clube de Portugal - SAD (Champions League Qtr Final)
Liverpool showed this evening it's not the amount of possession you have, it's what you do with it that counts, as they ran out 2 - 0 winners over Sporting Clube de Portugal - SAD.
Cultured midfielder Alberto Aquilani got Liverpool off to a flyer by scoring a good header from just inside the six-yard box after just one minute. The man behind the goal was Philipp Degen with a great cross. The last goal of the game came from cultured defensive midfielder Miguel Veloso whose 40th minute own-goal after a corner will undoubtedly cause him some embarrassment.
Liverpool therefore win 6 - 0 on aggregate.

With eight teams in action and 11 goals scored, the best viewing was to be found at St. Andrews where a crowd of 19750 witnessed Birmingham's 1 - 2 defeat against Bolton. The highlight being a landmark goal for Bolton's Grétar Steinsson. The loss for Birmingham also means that they are the second team relegated from the EPL this season.

League leaders Liverpool have been touted as comfortable favourites (Liverpool: 4-7 Draw: 5-2 Fulham: 4-1) but will have to be wary about complacency when taking on Fulham, according to Sky Bet. Premier Division title contenders Liverpool are currently lying in 3rd place in the table.
Following Fulham's English Premier Division 0 - 0 draw with Chelsea last Saturday, Hodgson's side are currently 10th in the Premier Division with 47 points from 33 matches.

The £500,000 deal taking Portsmouth's Florent Cuvelier to Liverpool can now be completed. The transfer will go through on Thursday 1st July 2010 and Liverpool have confirmed the deal.
Florent Cuvelier is a 17-year old Belgian midfielder who was the star of Portsmouth's youth system.
Liverpool is also working on brining inn another Portsmouth player Luke Wilkinson.

The opponent for Man U in the FA Cup was found today. In a game between Wigan and Arsenal, the Gunners came away with a 2-1 on the road. Arsenal scored two goals in the first 30 minutes and Wigan’s goal in the 84th minute was to little to late.

Liverpool fail to make chances pay. With 25 shots (11 of them being on goal and one off the post) Liverpool could count themselves highly unlucky to only draw in their English Premier Division match at Anfield. Liverpool had a number of attempts at goal but their profligacy meant they didn't score as many as they maybe would have liked.

Liverpool produced a good display this afternoon to see off the challenge of Everton at Goodison Park. When Carragher gave away a penalty, Cahill confidently stepped up to score from the spot. Liverpool was not happy with the referee as it clearly looked like Marouane Fellaini took a dive. Striker Fernando Torres then equalised for Liverpool in the 50th minute with a placed shot on a bad return from Tim Howard on a Steven Gerrard shot. Slovakia captain Martin Skrtel scored what proved to be the winner for the away side on 67 minutes with a good header from just inside the six-yard box on a perfect corner from Gerrard. It was Skrtels first ever goal for Liverpool.

Martin Skrtel was the best player on the park during Liverpool's 2 - 1 English Premier Division victory over Everton this afternoon and the margin of victory should have been even greater. Moyes stated that he thought Skrtel was the best player on the pitch and can only hope his team doesn't have to face players of his calibre every week.
Skrtel, 25, arrived at Anfield from Zenit for a fee of £6M in 2007.

He believes that playing with a team at that level taught him very little and believes he would have learnt much more during the time if he had remained at Liverpool during the period.

The results in the EPL keeps falling Liverpool’s way. This evening one of the contenders for the league title Man City lost points in a 1-1 battle with 5th place Aston Villa. The result puts City on 71 points with 3 games left on the schedule. That’s just 2 points behind league leader Chelsea who also got 3 games remaining and equal points with Liverpool who got 5 games remaining. The bad news for Liverpool’s is that two of those games are against Arsenal and one against 4th place Man United.

Liverpool won a hard fought battle against Chelsea on a fine spring evening at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool started out playing the waiting game and trying to counter. Fernando Torres was named man of the match after Liverpool's 4 - 2 English Premier Division victory over Bolton this evening. Torres scored a marvellous hattrick as the Bolton Wanderers defence simply failed to cope with the skilful striker's explosive finishing.
Former Liverpool favourite Ian Rush has also heaped praise on Fernando Torres after his inspired performance in Liverpool's 4 - 2 English Premier Division victory over Bolton. The twenty-six year-old striker caught the eye of Rush and he commented that Liverpool have a real gem of a player.
Striker Torres is being touted by the media as the likely winner of the English Players' Player of the Year award.

Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin feels the fans are pleased with Liverpool's 4 - 2 English Premier Division victory over Bolton. Particularly impressive were players like Glen Johnson, Albert Riera and Fernando Torres, leaving the likes of Philipp Degen wondering how he will break into the side.
Liverpool are currently on a five match unbeaten run and the title contenders lie in 1st place in the English Premier Division.

Headline: Liverpool fans confident ahead of Chelsea clash
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool fans are preparing to give a hostile welcome to the travelling Chelsea fans ahead of their upcoming European Champions League Semi Final Second Leg clash.
Liverpool are favourites for the match and their fans will be hoping to have cause to celebrate and claim bragging rights over their hated rivals.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti today spoke of his appreciation of Liverpool player Fernando Torres' ability ahead of their forthcoming fixture. Ancelotti went on to state that his team would have to somehow find a way of containing the player if they are going to have any chance of coming away from the match with a decent result.
Liverpool hold a narrow lead after their 2 - 1 win in the first leg.

David Moss watched Chelsea's 0 - 1 English Premier Division defeat against Man Utd and notes that although Chelsea lined up with a 4-1-3-2 formation last Saturday, they normally play 4-1-2-1-2.
Ancelotti likes his teams to play possession football and Chelsea will look to get the ball down and play it. They benefit from a strong and organised defence and this could prove difficult to break down. We should also be aware of the amount of creative talent in their midfield. Lastly, we will need to make plans for their forwards as they provide a powerful presence.
Chelsea are missing a lot of first-team players but the intelligent play of attacking midfielder Frank Lampard will still be a threat that we will have to deal with.
Injured Players: Joe Cole and Ricardo Carvalho
Unavailable Players: Hilário, Florent Malouda and John Obi Mikel

MATCH REPORT:
Liverpool 3 - 0 Chelsea (Champions League Semi Final)
A sturdy defence and a battling midfield display were the foundations upon which Liverpool built their 3 - 0 victory over Chelsea this evening. A brace from Fernando Torres helped Liverpool to victory.
When Frank Lampard gave away a very questionable penalty after just 11 minutes of play, Torres confidently stepped up to score from the spot. Torres doubled Liverpool's lead with a well executed finish on 17 minutes after a major mistake by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech. The keeper tried to dribble past Torres outside the penalty arrear with a disastrous result. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard completed the rout with a placed shot on 21 minutes after another questionable performance from Petr Cech when he failed to hold an easy shot from Yossi Benayoun.
In the second half Liverpool mostly concentrated on defending and trying a counter attack or two but without Chelsea at any point being really dangerous.
Liverpool therefore win 5 - 1 on aggregate.

Liverpool are through to the Final after a 5 - 1 aggregate win over Chelsea at Anfield. Seen as one of the contenders for the competition from the outset, Reds fans can now look forward to a European Champions Cup Final against Juventus or Olympique Lyonnais. It will be Liverpool’s 3rd Champions League final in the last six year. Liverpool has also been awarded £2,609,000 for playing in the European Champions Cup. They are guarantied another £3.5mil for playing in the final and double that amount if the win.

Fernando Torres impressed during Liverpool's convincing 5 - 1 European Champions Cup Semi Final Second Leg aggregate win over Chelsea this evening, according to BBC Sport. Torres had the quality to put the Chelsea defence to the sword and finished the match with two goals.
Striker Torres is being touted by the media as the likely winner of the English Players' Player of the Year award. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti hailed Liverpool striker Fernando Torres' performance against his side following Chelsea's heavy 1 - 5 European Champions Cup Semi Final aggregate loss against Liverpool.
Ancelotti stated that he thought Torres was the best player on the pitch and can only hope his team doesn't have to face players of his calibre every week.

Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin feels the fans are delighted with Liverpool's convincing 5 - 1 European Champions Cup Semi Final Second Leg aggregate win over Chelsea. Richard believes the fans feel there is nothing more satisfying than getting one over your arch rivals.
Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres particularly impressed.
The team will be delighted that they are in the Final of the Champions Cup following this result.

Liverpool will play Juventus in the European Champions Cup Final. That became clear after Juventus won 1-0 at home and to move ahead on the rule of away goals. The only goal of the match was scored by 35-year veteran Alessandro Del Piero.
The final will be played at Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday* 22nd May 2010. Liverpool and Juventus actually played each other in the final of the Champions Cup back in 1985, with Juventus lifting the trophy on that occasion.

Coach John McMahon was present as Liverpool Reserves emerged victorious against Everton Reserves at Prenton Park this evening. McMahon singled out Jay Spearing as the team's top performer. The defensive midfielder created a goal to round off an impressive display.
Liverpool Reserves are currently lying in 7th place in the English Reserves Group 2.

Injury-ravaged Aston Villa are slight underdogs (Aston Villa: 11-5 Draw: 11-5 Liverpool: Evens) in what should prove a tightly contested affair against league leaders Liverpool, according to Sky Bet.
Liverpool are currently on a five match unbeaten run and the title contenders lie in 2nd place in the English Premier Division. Aston Villa have been performing above expectations in the English Premier Division all season and find themselves in 5th place.
David Moss watched Aston Villa's 1 - 2 English Premier Division defeat against Tottenham last Saturday and noted that Aston Villa play a defensive 4-4-2 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack. The pitch at Villa Park is narrow, which will suit teams who play predominantly through the middle. Wide players will struggle to make an impact. O'Neill likes his teams to play possession football and Aston Villa will look to get the ball down and play it. Their midfield are good on the ball and can create chances. Finally, it will be important to defend deep or use fast defenders as their attacking pace may cause problems.
Aston Villa are missing a lot of first-team players but the raw pace of left winger Ashley Young will still be a threat that we will have to deal with.
Injured Players: Gabby Agbonlahor, Stephen Warnock, Luke Young, Emile Heskey and Wilfred Bouma
Unavailable Players: None

* Thought this was a mistake as the Champions league finals have always been played on Wednesday but it turns out that this year the final will actually be played on Saturday 22nd May

Aston Villa 1 - 0 Liverpool (Premier League)
Aston Villa upset the odds with a surprise victory over Liverpool. Liverpool decided to start with some of the heroes from Tuesdays Champions League win on the bench and hoped that the backups could step up and win this vitally important Premier league game against Villa. Centre-back Curtis Davies gave Aston Villa the lead with a mighty header from within the six-yard box in the 15th minute. Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker's red card for a vicious foul on 59 minutes put Aston Villa's position under question. Liverpool covered a lot of ground but also conceded far too many fouls, meaning their effort was often for nothing.

In-form Man Utd are clear favourites (Man Utd: 4-6 Draw: 9-4 Liverpool: 7-2) in this home encounter but will still have to make sure they do a professional job against league leaders Liverpool, according to Sky Bet.
Following Liverpool's 0 - 1 English Premier Division defeat against Aston Villa last Thursday, Northwood's side are currently 2nd in the Premier Division with 74 points from 35 matches.
Man Utd have notched up six straight wins and the title contenders occupy 4th place in the English Premier Division.
David Moss watched Man Utd's 1 - 0 English Premier Division victory over Chelsea last Saturday and noted that Man Utd play a defensive 4-4-2 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack. The pitch at Old Trafford is long which will favour teams playing a direct style. If defenders push up there will be a lot of space to exploit in behind them for the quicker players to take advantage of.

Ferguson likes his teams to play possession football and Man Utd will look to get the ball down and play it. They benefit from a strong and organised defence and this could prove difficult to break down. Their midfield are good on the ball and can create chances. MATCH REPORT:
Manchester United 1 - 1 Liverpool (Premier Division)
Liverpool were held to a draw by Manchester United in a close-fought Premier Division match played at Old Trafford. Bulgaria captain Dimitar Berbatov gave Man Utd the lead with a powerful close range effort in the 14h minute. It came after one of the few mistakes José Manuel Reina have made this year when he failed to hold on to a low cross from Ryan Giggs and left it just in front of Berbatov. Liverpool had to scramble after 48 minutes and move some players around when captain Steven Gerrard had to leave the field with what looked like a chest injury. Cultured midfielder Alberto Aquilani took over as the attacking midfielder and it only took him 2 minutes to equalise for Liverpool with a well timed close range finish. This time it was Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar that looked bad.

Everything is now set up for a very interesting finish to this year English Premier League. Before the final games the standing is like this:

1. Man City 77 points – remaining game: Home against Bolton (6th)
2. Liverpool 75 points - remaining games: Away and home against Arsenal (7th)
3. Chelsea 74 points - remaining game: Home against Portsmouth (20th)
4. Man U 73 points - remaining game: Away against Wigan (13th)

Liverpool got it all in there own hands but got two very difficult games between them and the title.

Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque was seen at Old Trafford during Liverpool's English Premier Division 1 - 1 draw with Man Utd. It is believed Del Bosque was casting an eye over the progress of José Manuel Reina, Albert Riera and Fernando Torres for his next Spain squad.

Dave Galley has reported that attacking midfielder Steven Gerrard has suffered a bruised rib after a late tackle during the match against Man Utd. Galley advises you that Gerrard will be treated by the club's physios. It is likely that Gerrard will be out for between 4 days and 5 days whilst he is treated. Dave Galley has reported that defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano has suffered a thigh strain after awkwardly striking the ball during the match against Man Utd.
Galley advises that a thigh strain can either be treated by the club's physios or managed by injections.
Injections: Will get through the next game against Arsenal but could then be out for between 12 days and 2 weeks.
Physio: Out for between 9 days and 11 days.
Mascherano will be treated at Liverpool by the club's physios.

Arsenal succumbed to a 4 - 1 loss in this evening's English Premier Division clash at Emirates Stadium. A brace from David N'Gog helped Liverpool to victory.
Things did not get off to a good start for Liverpool as Arsenal's Eduardo scored from the spot after Daniel Agger had given away a penalty. That was also the score at halftime when Tom Northwood gave the team a pep-talk and changed to a more offensive formation with two attackers. That changed the game completely and Liverpool came out to the second half as a different team. Liverpool's equaliser came through David N'Gog as he seized on Gaël Clichy's mistake to score a placed shot. It was a superb solo effort and N'Gog looked delighted. Israel captain Yossi Benayoun then put the away side in front after 63 minutes with a close range header. Another goal was added when N'Gog scored with a well executed finish in the 66th minute after another mistake by the Gunners defends. Young striker Nikola Saric completed the rout with a well timed close range finish on 77 minutes. That was the young Danes first ever goal for the Liverpool senior team in an EPL game.

Carragher, who is valued at £4.3M, currently has 14 months remaining on his £90K p/w deal at Anfield.

Thomas Northwood was not giving much away as he met journalists ahead of Liverpool's match against Arsenal in the English Premier Division. A journalist from BBC Merseyside chose the main focus point for the conference, asking, "A win against Arsenal would secure the title. Are you nervous?"
Northwood's response was, "There's a few butterflies in my stomach."
