MATCH REPORT:
Liverpool 1 - 0 Arsenal (Premier League)
Liverpool battled to a deserved 1 - 0 victory over Arsenal on a fine spring afternoon in their English Premier Division game at Anfield.
Things turned sour for Arsenal when Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas earned himself an early bath for a vicious foul on 3 minutes. Full-back Glen Johnson gave Liverpool the lead with a freak goal in the 32nd minute. The ball hit Johnson’s leg and went inn to the net when a Arsenal defender tried to clear a corner. Glen Johnson was the best player on the park during Liverpool's 1 - 0 win and the margin of victory should have been even greater. The Liverpool right-back enjoyed a good game for his side and more than deserved his goal. Johnson, 25, arrived at Anfield from Portsmouth for a fee of £17M in 2009.
Liverpool covered a lot of ground but also conceded far too many fouls, meaning their effort was often for nothing.
Even as perennial contenders for the English Premier Division, Liverpool had not won the competition since 1990.
Playing under the guidance of fans' favourite Thomas Northwood however, the Liverpool players have now brought glory to the buoyant fans.

Liverpool have won the English Premier Division title.
Despite being amongst those considered to have a chance of winning some silverware, Reds fans will celebrate this for some time to come. Manager Thomas Northwood has been labelled the mastermind behind the success and is the name on everyone's lips.
Liverpool trumped second-placed Man City to the title, with Man Utd in third. Chelsea completely collapsed in the end and was without a win in the last 6 games.
Liverpool have been given £20,632,000 for their final position in the English Premier Division. £3.4M is to be shared among the squad on a pro-rata basis after winning the Premier Division. Liverpool also have qualified for the 2010 Champions League by winning the Premier Division. The team were expected to qualify and now having sealed their place in next season's competition, fans can begin dreaming of potential future successes. For manager Thomas Northwood, the hard work now begins with an expectant fan base watching on.

Thomas Northwood appeared in good spirits as he met journalists in the wake of Liverpool's 1 - 0 English Premier Division victory over Arsenal. A journalist from The People chose the main focus point for the conference, asking, "The season has drawn to a close with the last match of the Premier Division having been played. How did you rate your match against Arsenal as a closing match?"
Northwood's response was, "It was a pretty special way to end the season."

Headline: Northwood named as Manager of the Year winner
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool's Thomas Northwood has won the English Premier Division Manager of the Year award. Mark Hughes of Man City was named in second place, whilst Man Utd's Alex Ferguson took the third spot.
Arsenal's Theo Walcott has won the English Players' Young Player of the Year award. With not much to choose between the top three, Liverpool's Emiliano Insúa took second place and James Vaughan of Everton came third.

The Liverpool board has issued a statement declaring that a club of Liverpool's stature was always going to be capable of winning the English Premier Division and they are happy with the achievement. The board is now keen to ensure that Northwood is able to fully concentrate on preparing the club for future challenges.
Liverpool favourite Ian Rush has commented that Reds boss Thomas Northwood had done the club and the fans proud with the English Premier Division success. Rush continued by stating that even though Liverpool were one of the favourites for the trophy, it still takes a manager of a high calibre to lead his team past the finishing post.
Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin feels the fans are pleased with Liverpool's 1 - 0 English Premier Division victory over Arsenal. Glen Johnson was particularly impressive and his performance will have delighted the Liverpool fans.
Current manager Thomas Northwood has been at Liverpool for 10 months, having joined the club in July 2009. Thomas Northwood has at last staked his claim that he is one of the most successful Danish managers of all time, boasting a managerial record that is comparable to the greatest. The accomplished Liverpool boss has shown himself to be no stranger to success and is likely to add to his growing collection of silverware in the near future.

Liverpool's Fernando Torres has won the English Players' Player of the Year award. Robinho of Man City was some way off in second place with Chelsea's Didier Drogba a close third.

Manchester City's Carlos Tevez has won the English Footballer of the Year award. There was nothing to choose between the top three and the award could easily have gone to either Man Utd's Wayne Rooney or Frank Lampard from Chelsea, who came second and third respectively.

Liverpool's Fernando Torres has indicated in a local newspaper that his manager Thomas Northwood was a key reason for the consistent form that recently won him the English Players' Player of the Year award.

At Madrid today won the Euro Cup for the first time in the team’s history. The triumph came after a 2-1 over Bordeaux. The big hero for Athletico was Folan who scored the winning goal after 33minutes

Fernando Torres has been rewarded for his recent fine form for Liverpool with a new contract. Torres was handed a new 5 year contract worth £32,000,000. The Spanish international has been in lethal form for Liverpool this season, leading the club's scoring charts with thirty-three goals in fifty-two appearances.

Liverpool have paid out £85K to be shared among the squad on a pro-rata basis after reaching the Sixth Round in the FA Cup.

I was a bit surprising that we actually ended up winning the Premier League this season. I took a look at the numbers and it turned out that the 81 points Liverpool finished with this season is the lowest total by the EPL winner in the last 10 years. The average points total for the winning teams in those 10 years was 89 points.
A good argument can be made that Liverpool didn’t win it this year but Chelsea lost it down the stretch.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt has returned to full training. The twenty-nine year old striker had been out of contention for 3 months following a shin injury. Kuyt has been in superb form for Liverpool so far this season, contributing five goals and nine assists in thirty-three appearances.
It’s still unclear if Kuyt will play a part in the Champions League final in 8 days or if Tom Northwood will stay with the team that just won the Premier League. It’s still believed that Dirk Kuyt will be a part of the Holland World Cup team despite his 3 months absence from football.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dave Galley has reported that defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano has sustained a bruised head following a robust challenge during a training session. Galley advises you that Mascherano will be treated by the club's physios. It is likely that Mascherano will be out for between 5 days and 6 days whilst he is treated. Javier Mascherano is now very questionable for the Champions league final next weekend.

The leagues around Europe have all found winners for the 2009/2010 season.
In Denmark it was no surprise that FC København ran away with the title for the 5th time in seven years. In Italy it was Inter who won the title this year in front of Milan and with Juventus on 3rd.
In Spain Real Madrid won the title one point ahead of Barcelona with Villarreal a distant 3rd.

Speculation is mounting that Girondins Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc is keeping tabs on Liverpool left winger Gerardo Bruna as he looks to expand the squad at Stade Chaban-Delmas (Parc Lescure).
Blanc has made the young winger one of his top transfer targets and will presumably be looking to follow up his interest in the near future.

Juventus' game against Liverpool in the European Champions League is set to be a sell-out with supporters clamouring to see their team at Santiago Bernabéu. Over 75000 tickets are expected to be sold for the European Champions League Final clash on Saturday.
Fans of Liverpool and Juventus are gearing up for what should be an entertaining match at Santiago Bernabéu.

Five-times Champions League winners Liverpool are gearing up to take on Juventus in Saturday's final.
Should they lift the trophy however, the Reds will no doubt look back proudly on their twelve game run to the final which saw them score twenty-nine goals and concede just eight.
Meanwhile, two-times winners Juventus also head into the final with the knowledge that history has seen them finish runners-up in the competition more times than they have won it.
Both clubs will be doing everything they can to ensure victory.

English champions Liverpool are just about favourites (Liverpool: 6-4 Draw: N/A Juventus: 13-8) to overcome the opposition in what should prove a tightly contested affair against Italian Serie A team Juventus, according to Sky Bet. Both clubs will be doing everything they can to ensure victory.
The referee for the match will be Babak Rafati from Hannover who has shown 18 yellow cards and no red cards in his six Champions League games so far this season.

David Moss watched Juventus' 2 - 3 Serie A defeat against A.C. Milan and notes that although Juventus lined up with a 4-1-3-2 formation last Sunday, they normally play 4-1-2-1-2.
Juventus don't play a particular passing style and like to mix it around a bit. They benefit from a strong and organised defence and this could prove difficult to break down. They are unlikely to pose an aerial threat so we should concentrate on preventing their strikers from receiving the ball to feet.
Moss warns that Juventus have a technically gifted player in Diego and we should look to limit the attacking midfielder's creativity.

MATCH REPORT:
Juventus 1 - 4 Liverpool (Champions League Final)
Juventus succumbed to a 4 - 1 loss in this evening's European Champions League Final clash at Santiago Bernabéu. A brace from Fernando Torres helped Liverpool to victory.
Striker Fernando Torres got Liverpool off to a flyer by scoring a placed shot on 9 minutes when Alberto Aquilani sent him past the Juventus defends on a nice deep ball. Commanding centre-back Jamie Carragher doubled Liverpool's lead with a thumping header on 14 minutes when the Old Lady’s defends completely forgot to mark him on a corner kick. An error from Gianluigi Buffon allowed cultured midfielder Alberto Aquilani to score a close range header. Buffon completely misjudged the cross from Yossi Benayoun. Del Piero then scored from the penalty spot after Agger gave away a penalty. That made the score 3-1 at halftime.
In the second half Juventus saw their 52nd minute strike questionably chalked off. The slow-motion clearly showed that Vincenzo Iaquinta was offside. Things then went from bad to worse for Juventus as Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro earned himself an early bath for ungentlemanly conduct on 66 minutes when he clipped Torres in the penalty arrear as the last defender when Torres again got away on a break. Torres was able to keep his composure to score from the spot after Cannavaro gave away a penalty.
Juventus then gave up and Liverpool was satisfied to run out the clock and start celebration the double.

Liverpool are celebrating a double after beating Juventus 4 - 1 in the European Champions League Final. Despite being amongst those considered to have a chance of winning some silverware, Reds fans will celebrate this outstanding achievement for some time to come. Manager Thomas Northwood has been labelled the mastermind behind the success and is the name on everyone's lips.
Liverpool beat the likes of R. Madrid, Sporting CP and Chelsea on their way to sealing the second trophy of their fantastic double.

Thomas Northwood appeared in an equivocal mood as he met journalists in the wake of Liverpool's convincing 4 - 1 European Champions League Final victory over Juventus. A journalist from the Daily Post chose the main focus point for the conference, asking, "Liverpool fans will be celebrating tonight after you guided them to victory in the Champions League. What did you think of the match?"
Northwood's response was,
"I am so pleased, to win this is a magnificent achievement."
It is thought that the Liverpool squad should react well to Northwood's handling of the question.

The fans of Liverpool will be nursing hangovers tomorrow after the team led by Thomas Northwood brought home the European Champions League. The secretary for the official supporters' club announced that Northwood's skill and success as a manager would put many of his contemporaries to shame. On the field it was Emiliano Insúa, Jamie Carragher and Fernando Torres who particularly impressed the fans.
Liverpool have been awarded £6,087,000 for winning against Juventus in the European Champions Cup.

Liverpool's Sean Highdale did not do enough to secure a professional contract after coming through the youth system. Sean Highdale has been released on a free transfer having failed to earn a contract at Liverpool.
Highdale started his career at Anfield but the youngster failed to play a senior game for the club and was seemingly deemed surplus to requirements by manager Thomas Northwood.
He has been released from the club and is now available on a free transfer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before this season 33-year old Dutch super star Ruud Van Nistlerooy returned home from Real Madrid to Holland and PSV to finish his career. And what a season it turned out to be. In the 52 games Van Nistlerooy started for PSV this season he scored an amazing 42 goals and also had 18 assists. That’s the highest number of goal in a season for Van Nistlerooy since his glory days in PSV back in 99-00.
Unfortunately for Holland Van Nistlerooy is retired from international football back in 2008 and will not be part of the Dutch World Cup team in South Africa. Holland will be depended on Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (AC Milan) as there goal scores in South Africa.

That it took Pato (AC Milan) just 45 seconds to put the ball in the net was not a huge surprise. But that North Korea responded with a goal of there own just 2 minutes later was a stunner. The Korean goal came after horrible play by Brazilian keeper Jùlio Cèsar (Inter) when he dropped a simple cross in front of an attacker who scored easily. North Korea actually dominated the game and had the ball the most but Robinio scored Brazils go ahead goal after 42 minutes when he beat the offside trap and out sprinted the Korean defends on a counterattack. The final goal of the game came after 67 minutes when Brazil once again counter attacked and Josuè (Wolfburg) scored his first goal of the tournament. It was not an impressive win but still good enough to secure Brazil a pass for the next round.

After loosing the first game to Spain the Czech Republic bounced back nicely today with a huge 3-1 win over the Ivory Coast. Tomaz Necid (CSKA Mocow) scored the first goal after 3 minutes after a beautiful cross from Rosicky. The same Rosicky the gave back a goal in the 16th minute when he missed a clearance after a corner and Arouna Konè scored his second game of the tournament. The roller coaster game then continued for Rosicky when he once again was the architect behind a Czech goal this time after 27 minutes of play. Last touch on the ball this time was David Jarolim (HSV). The last goal for the Czech Republic came after 56 minutes of play when Ivory Coast committed a stupid and harsh penalty. Tomàs Sivok (Besiktas) had no problem scoring.

Croatia got away with the win and a place in the final 16 in a somewhat dull performance against Costa Rica. First goal after 20 minutes was by Ivica Olic (Bayern Munich) how scored his 20th goal for Croatia and his second in the tournament on a counter attack. They then had to wait all the way to the 87th minute for the second goal. Eduardo (Arsenal) also got this second of the World Cup when the Costa Rica defends was caught napping. Costa Rica got a late goal in the 91st minute by Jairo Alvarado but it was too little to late. Brazil and Croatia is now ready for the Final-16 from group C.

Girondins Bordeaux have made an offer worth £875,000 plus future incentives for Gerardo Bruna. OM have had an offer accepted for Bruna and were believed to be close to sealing the transfer but Les Girondins have made an eleventh hour bid. Liverpool have accepted the offer. Gerardo Bruna was not part of Thomas Northwood’s plans for the future. Liverpool is looking for an attacking left midfielder but it was unlikely that Gerardo Bruna would be the answer in the near future for the English club.

Miralem Sulejmani (Ajax) gave Serbia the lead after 24 minutes after a long attack where Egypt failed to clear the ball at several occasions. Both team had chances but the only other goal was scored by Egypt after 74 minutes when Mido created an open chance for Amr Zaki (Sporting CP) who scored easily.

Germany had the ball the most and played the best an when they scored the go-ahead goal with just 1 minute to go it looked like a typical German world Cup win. But Mexico and Pàvel Pardo (Amèrica) had different plans. Two minutes in to overtime he tried a long range shot. The German keeper tried to knock it over but instead he knocked it in to his own goal for a late equalizer.

Spain got off to a bad start when the career of Carles Puyol (Barcelona) properly ended after just 16 minutes of play when he tore a calf muscle and will be out for 4-5 months. The first goal of the game came after 41 minutes when Torres (Liverpool) made an excellent move in the box and scored easily. The second goal came after a corner when Gerard Piquè came highest and directed the ball in to the long corner with his head. Torres then scored again after 72 minutes when a South Korean player missed an interception at midfield and gave the Spanish player a free run.
Spain 3 – South Korea 0

Liverpool are stepping up the chase for Galatasaray striker Milan Baros, according to reports.
However, it is believed The Reds will have to table a bid in the region of £4,700,000 to prise him away from Ali Sami Yen. Baros, who has 2 years left on his current contract, has been at Ali Sami Yen since August 2008. He played for Liverpool back in the 2004-05 season when he scored 9 goals I 26 matches before being sold to Aston Vila. Thomas Northwood is in South Africa for the World Cup and has not commented on the report but it’s highly unlikely that he will spend most of his remaining transfer budget on a 28-year old attack striker.
