NCAA 11: Nevada Wolfpack - Rollin' the Dice

With the tuner out that fixed up dynasty mode and a newer roster out, I decided to do a new NCAA dynasty, this time trying to work Nevada up from the WAC to the PAC. I am going to make sure I don't get things handed to me and make my sure I play a tough slate of games yearly.

We add Syracuse and Bama on the road and only have four home games. Talk about murderers row.

We need to beat UNLV and go bowling this year and we'll be okay.

2010 Key Players

Rather then break down the entire team I'll list a few guys who will make or break our season

QB Colin Kaepernick (91 OV, 88 SP) - One of the best dual threat QB's in the Nation, Kaepernick is going to lead our new Pro Style offense. The Pistol was all well and good but with our RB depth I want us to run down peoples throats. Kaepernick can both run and pass and should have an All American type year.

RB Vai Taua (90 OV, 92 SP) - Taua will most likely end up the best back in the WAC and finish top 10 in the Nation in rushing. He and Kaepernick will make up the best backfield in the WAC and again, one of the best in the land.

RB Mike Ball (84 OV, 90 SP) - Ball is a Sophmore and the heir apparent for Taua. He will see plenty of carries as we look to be a heavily running team. Ideally he will end up around 1,000 yards and ease right into being the star next year.

WR Brandon Wimberly (82 OV, 90 SP) - Wimberly is a RS Sophmore and our best WR. He is quick and shifty and we will look to use his talents in the open field and watch him go.

LG John Bender (84 OV) - Bender is a Senior and easily our best OL. We'll be looking his way to open up holes for our run game and to mentor our young OL.

RE Dontay Moch (84 OV, 86 SP) - Moch is a speed rushing DE who could be an All WAC candidate, He will have to be our pass rush as our D is lacking serious talent. If he performs we will be okay.

LOLB Brandon Marshall (80 OV, 80 SP) - Marshall, a RS Junior, is going to be counted on to come up big in the middle of our D. While he won't be a MLB we will be using a lot of 3-3-5 and other packages that put him in the middle of the field.

Offensively, Syracuse is lead by Senior RB Delone Carter (86). He isn't a blazer but he will run right through you. We are weak up front and don't have much depth so we're going to need to run blitz and make sure we tackle him when given the chance.

Defensively, Syracuse is lead by Senior Derrell Smith (87). Smith is going to get his tackles and will be hard to get away from. Our best chance is to exploit their weaker DL because they also have two solid safety's.

If we can establish the run early and bleed clock, we should be able to save our D which will be war down itself.

Week 1: Nevada (0-0, 0-0) @ Syracuse (0-0, 0-0)

First Quarter

- The game starts off as well as we could ask. We force an early punt and start a nice time consuming march down the field. Sadly we stall out around the 40 and on 4th and 1 we're stuffed after Derrell Smith blows through our line and smokes Taua.

- Syracuse would get the ball in decent field position and start a nice little march down the field themselves. We hold on D but they inch close enough to hit a 41 yard FG to take the lead. Syracuse 3-0.

Second Quarter

- We trade possessions before getting the ball back halfway through the second. Kaepernick works us down the field with some short passes but we can't do much else. We settle for a 44 yard FG to tie it up. 3-3.

-It is more of the same until we punt with just over a minute left. Syracuse QB Nassib is forced into an errant pass which Boughton picks off and we get the ball at the Syracuse 43.

- We dial up the bomb to Wimberly hoping for the quick strike and Wimberly makes an amazing catch as the ball is deflected by the safety but he manages to find it and bring it in with 47 seconds to go in the half. A huge 43 yard TD! Nevada 10-3

Third Quarter

- Syracuse gets the ball to start but they fumble it away three plays in. That is all we need because Kaepernick keeps the ball on a load option and walks in untouched to the endzone on a 34 yard run! Nevada 17-3

- The very next play after the kickoff Boughton strikes again with another INT but we can't make anything come of this one. Still we head to the fourth up 14.

Fourth Quarter

- Here we just start wasting clock. We run right down their exhausted front seven with Taua doing most of the work. He sadly gasses out so Ball comes in for the glory on a 6 yard TD off a toss and that seals it. Nevada 24-3.

Final Score

Nevada 24 - Syracuse 3

Kaepernick was 9/13 for 147 yards with a TD. He also ran 4 times for 40 yards and a TD.

Taua had 25 carries for 116 yards
Ball had 10 carries for 27 yards and a TD

Wimberly had 5 catches for 88 yards and a TD

Boughton had 2 tackles and 3 INT
Marshall and Coulson each had a sack

Colorado State sits at 1-0 after a 29-23 win over a less then stellar Colorado team. They are lead by RB John Mosure (85) a Senior with good speed and ability to hit the hole. Add in Senior FB Zach Pauga (83) and you have the makings of a solid run game that could pose problems to our DL.

On D, Junior ROLB Mychal Sisson (86) is a beast. He is a kid we have to account for. He will make plays if we're not careful. The plan will be to wear him down early and much like vs Syracuse, run all over them late.

If we can keep it close early, or better yet obviously, take the lead early, we can minimize their strengths on both sides and coast to victory.

Nevada (1-0, 0-0) vs Colorado State (1-0, 0-0)

First Quarter

- The game starts off with us playing a 4-6 and demolishing their run game. Their pass game cannot get started up helping us win the battle of field position. We don't score but we're weakening them.

Second Quarter

- We get a look at Kaepernick's speed early in the second as we spread the field on 3rd and 5. No one is open by a hole emerges and Kaepernick bursts through it for a 79 yard TD run! Nevada 7-0

- We get the ball back and drive down the field. We get to the 1 where Taua punches it in for the score. Nevada 14-0.

- Colorado State adds a 47 yard FG as time expires to give them some life at the half. Nevada 14-3.

Third Quarter

- Another easy drive that takes up 6 minutes ends in Taua punching it in from 1 yard out yet again. Colorado State's D is totally worn out and just getting blown off the ball every play. Nevada 21-3

Fourth Quarter

- Thomas hits Steele for a 15 yard TD and CSU gets the 2 point conversion. Our D had a mental breakdown which left Steele all alone in the endzone. Nevada 21-11.

- We ice the game late in the 4th as Taua breaks off a 28 yard TD off tackle to seal it. Nevada 28-11.

Final Score

Nevada 28 - Colorado State 11

Kaepernick was 8 of 14 for 140 yards and a TD, he also ran 5 times for 105 yards and a TD.

Taua ran 28 times for 141 yards and 3 TD.

Coulson had 2 sacks while Mock added 1.

Here is what we need to know about this game: we have no chance. Alabama is the best team in the nation, with the best defense and maybe the best offense.

Their offense revolves around last years Heisman winner Mark Ingram (98) who will just bull over guys. When he isn't bowling over our DL, WR Julio Jones (97) will be pulling in catch after catch.

On D, LE Marcel Dareus (95) is only Junior but already one of the Nation's best. He is going help anchor their 3 man front and be a force vs our run game. Add in perhaps the Nation's best MLB in Donta Hightower (95) and you have the makings of a blowout since we will struggle to run.

God help me.

Week 3: Nevada (2-0, 0-0) @ #1 Alabama (2-0, 0-0)

First Quarter

- We are forced to punt early. Alabama gets the ball and it's Ingram all day. He caps off the drive with a 7 yard score. Alabama 7-0.

- We are forced to punt again and once again Bama drives on us, but Big Play Boughton steps in front of an errant McElroy pass and takes it down to the 7. From there Taua takes it in for a 4 yard TD to tie it up. 7-7.

- Alabama shows how deadly they can be as Ingram takes a pitch and takes it 62 yards for the TD. Just a demoralizing blow. Alabama 14-7.

Second Quarter

- We come back with our own nice drive though. Kaepernick shows off his speed again, this time on a 35 yard keeper where he is able to jump over a defender into the endzone! 14-14.

- Of course Bama marches right back down the field and Ingram yet again scores, this time on an 8 yard rush. Alabama 21-14.

- We take the opening kick and Ball takes off for a 97 yard TD! My first in NCAA 11. 21-21.

- .. And then Dre Kirkpatrick takes the subsequent kick 98 yards for a TD. Christ. Alabama 28-21.

- We are forced to punt and McElroy leads the charge down the field. He hits Julio Jones in the back of the endzone for an 18 yard TD which at the time seemed to signal the end for us. Thankfully Mock gets through on the XP and blocks it! Alabam 34-21.

- We need to make something happen before the half and ask and you shall receive. Bama's D breaks down and Kaepernick hits Session on a slant for an 80 yard TD! Alabama 34-28.

Third Quarter

- Not much happened here. We stiffened up but Alabama did manage a 7 yard TD pass from McElroy to Jones to make it 41-28.

Fourth Quarter

- We need to score, and the big play smiles at us again. This time Kaepernick hits Green on a WR Screen and he takes it 42 yards to pay dirt! Alabama 41-35

- McElroy gets flustered and throws a pick to Miller on the next drive. We take the time to get the ball to the 1 where Kaepernick hits Wimberly for the TD! Nevada 42-41

- We trade possessions, but with under a minute left McElroy throws a bomb to Jones for 57 yards on 3rd and long. Another pass to Jones sets up an Ingram TD with 51 seconds left. Alabama 48-42.

- We need a miracle and dmanit we get it. A pass to green over the middle puts us at Alabama's 15 but he fumbles! Then out of nowhere Wimberly picks up the ball and takes it to the house! Nevada 49-48

- 19 seconds left, we just need to play prevent which we do. But of course, it fucks us. McElry throws the ball over the middle to Mark Ingram. He picks up two massive blocks from his WR's and he is sprung for a 73 yard game clinching TD with 7 seconds left. Alabama 55-48.

Final Score

Alabama 55 - Nevada 48

Kaepernick was 14/24 for 299 yards and 3 TD. He also ran 9 times for 71 yards and a TD.

Taua ran 18 times for just 17 yards and a TD.

Wimberly had 5 catches for 94 yards and a TD.

Marshall had 6 tackles and a sack.

Mark Ingram had 27 carries for 205 yards and 4 TD. He also had 3 catches for 112 yards and a TD.

Julio Jones had 10 catches for 157 yards and 2 TD.

Don't let their record fool you, BYU may be 1-2 but their losses are to two ranked teams in Washington and Florida State. They are going to post a big threat to us, especially with their massive OL lead by Junior Matt Reynolds (93) who is one of the Nation's best LT's.

We know they will not be afraid to air it out vs us and with their OL they will have time to pass. We're going to need to blitz to get at the QB and force mistakes.

Defensively their strength is the secondary, lead by SS Andrew Rich (88) and CB Brandon Bradley (86). Both guys possess good speed and coverage skills. But we have confidence after putting up 40 + on the Nation's top D.

We need to just stay with the plan of running the ball and keep their O off the field and we can win this.

Ha. That Bama game was heartbreaking. I could not stop them unless McElroy made an ill advised pass. Their D was amazing up front but they kept sending guys so I was able to pick them apart.

It's gonna be rough when Kaepernick leaves.

Sad thing is...this is how I see it playing out in RL...except the Nevada game is a win and the cougs finish 2-2 with their first 4 games...

You have had some solid play so far. GL!

You should have no problem beating UNLV. We're going to suck this year and be lucky to get 4 wins IRL.

Week 4: Nevada (2-1, 0-0) @ BYU (1-2, 1-0)

First Quarter

- BYU shows off their pass game early. Their OL just mauls our DL into the ground and Nelson has all day to throw. BYU works the ball down inside our five and after a succession of run plays, Kariya runs it in from 1 yard out. BYU 7-0

- We get the ball back and march down the field. Kaepernick shows his game breaking ability yet again, this time on a 27 yard run to tie it up. 7-7

- Sadly the next BYU drive is like the first. We cannot stop their pass game because we cannot get pressure. This time Kariya caps the drive from 7 yards out. BYU 14-7

Second Quarter

- We go three and out but finally stop BYU. They have a great punt to our 4. We dial up a toss to the left and our OL explodes on the BYU D who was blitzing. The over commitment allows Taua to excel through his lane and set a Nevada record with a 97 yard TD! 14-14

- So what do we do to keep our momentum? Answer: Nothing. We allow a 68 yard TD pass from Nelson to Jacobson to give the lead right back to BYU. BYU 21-14

- We get stuffed again and BYU gets the ball back. Our D mans up and forces a FG that Payne hits from 29. BYU 24-14

- With time winding down, we hit the air. Kaepernick finds our TE Green down the middle on a seam route and he breaks a tackle to score on a 72 yard pass! BYU 24-21

Third Quarter

- The third quarter starts with us getting the ball. We march down the field but on a pass over the middle Green gets blasted. The ball pops free and Bryson picks it up for BYU returning it 68 yards for a TD. BYU 31-21

- We manage to answer back with a 7 yard TD scamper from Kaepernick. BYU 38-28.

Fourth Quarter

- BYU goes down the field and hits a 38 yard FG. BYU 41-28

- The worst thing that could happen ends up happening on a Load Option play. Kaepernick gets leveled and stays down. The diagnosis ends up being a Broken Collarbone ending his season. Thankfully Taua is able to break a big run and our backup QB Lantrip is able to run it in from the 3. BYU 41-35

- We hold BYU to a punt and start a final drive down the field. We face 4th and 11 from our 35 but we hit Green for a 1st down. On another 4th down Ball takes it on a pass out of the backfield for a first. With 13 seconds left and no TO we complete a pass to the 14 but can't get out of bounds so we hurry up tot he line. With 1 second left Lantrip gets the snap off and throws to a wide open Hall in the corner of the endzone! We hit the extra point and it is over! Nevada 42-41

Final Score

Nevada 42 - 41

Lantrip was 7/12 for 158 yards and a TD.

Taua had 29 carries for 239 yards and a TD.

Green had 5 catches for 118 yards and a TD.

Miller had 11 tackles.

We're coming into this huge Rivalry Game playing great on offense and poor on defense. Unfortunately we are now without Kaepernick which is a huge blow so Taua is going to be relied on even more then before. Thankfully this is a game on paper we are decidedly the favorite in, though as we all know, anything can happen, especially in Rivalry games.

UNLV is lead on offense by their LT Matt Murphy (84). He is their best player and their Captain. He will be looking to avoid him and feat on the right side of their OL which is very weak.

Their D is lead by MLB Ronnie Paulo (82). Paulo is a North/South player so we will look to stretch him out. Their D lacks speed so we'll be playing in space and really trying to focus on isolating favorable match ups.

We'll be on the road for this game but that's where a tough run game can come up huge. If we can run for 200 yards as a team we'll be okay. If we need to wing it around, we could have issues.

Week 5: Nevada (3-1, 0-0) vs Scouting UNLV (2-2, 1-1)

First Quarter

- The game starts off with a lot of back and forth, give and take. Neither D gives an inch and each team punts twice. We finally look like we'll break the stalemate as we get inside the redzone but Taua gets hit hard and fumbles.

- UNLV then drives down the field and gets to the 11 after a 35 yard pass. Thankfully Louks makes a one handed INT in the endzone to keep the game scoreless.

Second Quarter

- UNLV gets another chance but our D comes up big again, as Williams is the one to get a pick this time around.

- We march down the field and Lantrip hits Sessions for a 10 yard TD strike. Nevada 7-0

- Sadly our D folds up and UNLV gets huge gainers and ends up scoring on a 13 yard pass from Clayton to Sullivan. 7-7

Third Quarter

- A boring third quarter sees only on scoring play as Drake kicks a 25 yard FG for us. Nevada 10-7.

Fourth Quarter

- We start to run down the UNLV D as Taua picks up big chunks of yards. He takes us down to the 4 where he tags out and Ball comes in. He takes a pitch to the outside and scores untouched. Nevada 17-7.

- We get the ball back with 3 minutes left. More running takes us to the one and Ball scores again, this time on a 1 yard run to seal it. Nevada 24-7.

Final Score

Nevada 27 - UNLV 7

Lantrip was 11 for 18 for 153 yards and a TD

Taua ran 29 times for 181 yards
Ball ran 11 times for 61 yards and 2 TD

Green had 3 catches for 51 yards

Madonick had 6 tackles, 3 TFL and 2 sacks

This is going to be a blood bath. San Jose State is 2-2 but both wins are against FCS teams. Their losses are to Alabama and Utah. This is both teams WAC opener but for San Jose State, they will be looking at an 0-1 start most likely.

On offense, SJSU runs behind RB Lamon Muldrow (78). He isn't that fast, he isn't that powerful, he isn't much of anything, but that is there star. He should be someone we key on and get to early.

On D, their best player is SS Duke Ihenacho (84). He is a solid player but with no help around him he has tons of issues. We may challenge him but with how awful their front seven is, we may never have to pass.

I am cocky going into this one but I feel pretty confident.

Week 6: Nevada (4-1, 0-0) vs San Jose State (2-2, 0-0)

First Quarter

- We come out expecting to dominate and are rudely brought to reality as SJSU's D comes out breathing fire. We are held without a first down for three possessions, but thankfully our D shows up, and their O is about as good as advertised.

- We break through finally as Lantrip hits Wimberly down the sideline for a 36 yard TD! Nevada 7-0

Second Quarter

- SJSU musters together a drive to start the second quarter. Our D stiffens as they approach the endzone and they are forced to settle for a 25 yard FG. Nevada 7-3.

- We start a huge drive that is 90% run. Taua finds some holes and ends up breaking a 25 yard to the run. We call a TO to reward Taua with a TD and he comes through on the 1 yard run. Nevada 14-3.

Third Quarter

- Lantrip connects with Green for a 29 yard TD early in the third. Green was able to out leap an over matched safety and bring the ball in. Nevada 21-3.

- SJSU's O once again comes to life and La Secla hits Avery for a 49 yard TD where our entire secondary seemingly fell asleep. Nevada 21-10.

Fourth Quarter

- We exert our will in the run game again, and Taua is able to score from 4 yards out. Nevada 28-10.

- On the kickoff we get a massive hit causing the SJSU return man to fumble. Rosette picks it up and takes it into the endzone. Nevada 35-10.

Final Score

Nevada 35 - San Jose State 10

Lantrip: 8/14 for 125 yards and 2 TD

Taua: 31 carries for 132 yards, 2 TD

Green: 4 catches for 59 yards, TD

Louks: 6 tackles

Hawaii is an interesting team. They have beat USC, but USC is 1-4. They have beat Colorado on the road, but Colorado is 2-3. Their toughest game was against Fresno State and they lost 45-24.

Their offense revolves around two very good WR's. Senior Greg Salas (90) is probably the best WR in the WAC. He isn't a burner but he is going to catch anything thrown his way. Opposite him is Senior Kealoha Pilares (86), a stocky kid who is hard to bring down. We know they will be looking to wing the ball around and we give up a ton of big plays, so we need to step it up in the secondary.

Their D is lead by SS Mana Silva (82) and DT Vaughn Meatoga (80). We know that we will avoid the middle of their D and continue to play to the strengths we have off tackle.

Both teams are evenly matched talent wise. It'll come down to us stopping the big plays and being able to continue our solid run game.

Week 7: Nevada (6-1, 1-0) @ Hawaii (5-1, 1-1)

First Quarter

- It starts rough for us. Taua takes a hand off and is smoked by Meatoga causing a fumble. Hawaii picks it up at 24. A few plays later, Moniz finds Pilares for a 10 yard score. Hawaii 7-0.

- We answer with a 5 minute drive, doing damage in the air. It culminates in Taua scoring from the 2 to tie it up. 7-7.

Second Quarter

- Our D folds completely this quarter. Hawaii gets two 30 yard completions on 3rd and longs and then Moniz keeps it himself for a 2 yard TD. Hawaii 14-7.

- We fumble the kickoff and Hawaii recovers at our 13. They work it to our one and Green runs it in. Hawaii 21-7.

- We stop them a couple times but cannot make anything happen. They get the ball and the air assault picks back up. Moniz hits Bright for a 13 yard score. Hawaii 28-7.

Third Quarter

- Our D holds to start the half and Matthews gives us a huge return inside Hawaii territory. We work the ground game and then Taua bursts off the tackle for a 17 yard score! Hawaii 28-14

- Hawaii drives down the field but after a huge hit from one of our LB's on their RB, the ball pops loose and we recover. We then dial up a pass play with Wimberly being single covered. The DB jumps the rout but misses the ball and Wimberely takes the ball 45 yards for the score! Hawaii 28-21

- Our D falters again though after Pilares takes a pass 33 yards to the 3 allowing Moniz to hit Pollard for a 3 yard score. Hawaii 35-21.

- We stall out again and Hawaii moves down the field. We switch to a 3-3-5 and are able to hold them to a 43 yard FG. Hawaii 38-21.

- We face a 3rd and 8 from our 34 and Hawaii dials up an all out blitz. Matthews was running a slant and the pass makes it just in the nick of time allowing Matthews to burst untouched 66 yards for the TD! Hawaii 38-28

Fourth Quarter

- Hawaii is getting close to putting the game away but then we get a gift. Moniz gets hurried down at our 20 and throws a duck that Miller picks off and takes it 82 yards for the score! Hawaii 38-35.

- Hawaii marches down the field again but we force them to settle for a FG. Hawaii 41-35.

- We get the ball back and our boy Taua strikes on the first play with a 68 yard TD off of a weak toss! Nevada 42-41.

- We force Hawaii to punt and work our way down the field. Lantrip finds Ball on an HB Screen and he takes it 23 yards for the TD! We decide to make it a 9 point game and go for 2. Lantrip finds Taua and we're up 9! Nevada 50-48.

- Of course Hawaii throws its way down the field and ends up setting up a 3 yard TD run from Green. Nevada 50-48.

- We get the ball but cannot drain the clock so Hawaii gets it back with 58 second and 2 TO. They drive down to our 24 with 8 seconds left and bring out the FG unit. We Ice the Kicker and it works as the kick misses wide and we hold on!

Final Score

Nevada 50 - Hawaii 48

Lantrip was 10 for 18 for 236 yards and 3 TD

Taua had 27 carries for 241 yards and 3 TD

Wimberly had 4 catches for 109 yards and a TD

Johnson had 7 tackles
Coulson had 5 tackles, 3 TFL and 3 sacks

Utah State has one good player. If we lose this game, I'll retire.

Their entire team is RB Robert Turbin (85). He has good speed and is a threat whenever he has the ball. Problem is he is their entire offense. We're going to force them to throw and we should be able to handle that aspect of their offense quite easily.

On D their best player is LOLB Bobby Wagner (79). He's okay. That is about all I can see for their best player on defense.

We'll run all over these guys.

I just realized EA fucked up. Nevada plays 13 games this year but since they don't do that in the game I am out a conference game which makes no sense. So the team I miss is Boise. I guess it is a blessing disguise.

Bah. I played the Idaho game and had it written up but my net went out and I was an idiot and didn't c/p it.

Regardless, we won 27-23.

Scouting #17 Fresno State (7-1, 5-0)

We celebrate entering the top 25 (#25) by facing our biggest remaining test in #17 Fresno State. Because of a flaw in the game for this season we won't play Boise, so a win here would most likely guarantee us a share of the WAC title as our last two games are against New Mexico State (0-8) and Louisiana Tech (3-6)

Fresno will be a tough test as they have the best QB/RB combo outside of Boise and us (with Kaepernick) in the WAC. Sophmore RB Robbie Rouse (85) is a kid who has good speed and is a threat to score any time he has the ball. Their QB is Senior Ryan Colburn (85) who is a classic drop back passer. Our secondary is our most glaring weakness defensively and we won't be able to cheat with Fresno's balance. We need to step up against the run and hope like hell we can keep moving the chains so their pass game is off the field.

On D Senior MLB Ben Jacobs is probably the best LB in the WAC. He is a throwback type. He will hit you hard and he won't get beat in any mental facet of the game. We also have to watch out for LE Chris Carter (86). He will be a problem for our OL so we need to try and avoid him and utilize quick drops.

If we can keep to our offense and not get down early we will be able to win this game. This is a team that is way too good though for us to get down against as our mantra has been.

Weeks 11-15

I was demoralized by Fresno State so I am just keeping this short so I can advance to the bowl game.

Fresno destroyed us 47-23. It wasn't even a contest. They just threw all over us and though we could run it some, we couldn't get our pass game going at all.

We then played New Mexico State who ended up 0-12. We beat them 24-17. It was 24-0 at the half and I pulled everyone to get other guys a chance which almost backfired but we were able to hold on.

We finished out vs Louisiana Tech and crushed them 41-14. We kept the foot on the pedal all game and it turned ugly quick.

We finished the regular season 10-2 and #18 in the polls. Losing Taua is going to kill us but so be it.

Humanitarian Bowl
#17 Nevada (10-2, 6-1) vs Pitt (9-3, 4-3)

First Quarter

- We start this game adjusting to playing in the snow. Pitt is without Dion Lewis, one of the top RB's in the country, and it shows early as their run game is doing nothing.

- We move down the field led by Taua who is in pursuit of 2000 yards, but a holding penalty negates a TD run. We end up having to go for a FG but the weather is too nasty and Drake misses from 39.

Second Quarter

- The second quarter starts with us getting two sacks in a row, but then Sunseri finds Jonathan Baldwin for 44. They run a few plays for a first and then it's Baldwin again, this time for a 32 yard TD pass. Pitt 7-0.

- We trade possessions before Pitt mounts another good drive. It gets taken to the 1 where Hynoski rumbles in for the TD. Pitt 14-0.

- We get the ball back with 40 seconds and are able to hit Wimberely on a slant. He shakes a tackler and is off for a 61 yard TD! Pitt 14-7.

Third Quarter

- Pitt's first possession of the half is a huge one for us as Sunseri throws an errant pass that Louks picks off and takes the distance for a TD! 14-14.

- Pitt moves down the field and goes for a FG but our ST comes through with a huge block!

- We get the ball back and it's Wimberely again, this time with a 26 yard reception for the score. 21-14 Nevada.

Fourth Quarter

- We are holding on for dear life but with 50 seconds left Pitt culminates a long drive with a 1 yard pass to Cross. 21-21.

- We go risky on our final drive in regulation and move down the field to the 49 with 6 seconds left. We dial up the Hail Marry and wouldn't you know it but Wimberely comes down with it with no time left! Nevada 28-21!

Final Score

Nevada 28 - Pitt 21

Lantrip: 11/24 for 224, 3 TD - 1 INT
Taua: 21 carries for 101 yards
Wimberely: 5 catches for 183 yards, 3 TD

Nevada Year End Wrap

- At 11-2 on the year we finish #12 in the final polls. The amazing season earns me a five year extension as well our team being bumped to *** prestige.

- When Colin Kaepernick went down for the year, things looked bleak. Then red shirt Junior Tyler Lantrip came in and had an amazing year. He finished with 2147 yards and 17 TD - 5 INT. He will hopefully keep it up going into his Senior year.

- What can't be said about Senior RB Vai Taua? He broke the school record for yards in a season (1978) and TD's (22), while running the ball an amazing 370 times. Our goal of getting Mike Ball ready failed, but he will be the man next year.

- Red-shirt Sophmore Brandon Wimberly was a big play personified. He had 50 catches for 997 yards and 8 TD on the year. As the season wore on he and Lantrip developed a great chemistry we hope to carry over into 2011. His game winning hail marry grab vs Pitt in the Humanitarian Bowl will not be forgotten.

- Senior DE Ryan Coulson finished a spectacular career with 46 ackles, 17 TFL and 10 sacks. Replacing the production from he and Moch will be something that figures not to come easy in 2011.

Nevada Players Leaving Early

- LT Steve Haley (82) has decided to forgo his Senior season at Nevada. This is a huge blow because he was expected to be our OL anchor next year. Now we end up losing him, Colin Kaepernick (91), Vai Taua (90) and Virgil Green (82) from what was a dynamic offense. Things are going to be tough next season.
