So close! One more win would've done it... there's not much more gut wrenching than that.

Starting Defender Center: Greig McDonald
Starting Defender Center: Sean Roycroft

Backup Defense: Mark Tyrell (D RC, M C) - use in heavy rotation with Kevin McMullen
Backup Defense: Martyn Campbell (D C) - would have won a starting role, but had a terrible performance in the last Friendly. Will use in heavy rotation with McDonald.

Innes Ritchie and John Ward (both D C) - decent showings in Friendly matches, but both are incredibly slow. Will be on Reserve squad to see how they do.
Paul Gaughan (D C), Chris Miller (D/WB L) and Karl Anderson (D RC) are also both on the Reserve Squad as neither were good enough to win a starting or backup spot. Will keep around to see if they improve.

Starting Midfielder Left: Stuart Callaghan (AM L) - Even more teams tried to get him during the break.

Scottish Challenge Cup 1st Round, July 28th vs. Hamilton (SCO First Division)
An impossible challenge, the media is calling it. Our defense holds them until injury time before the half when they score off of a free kick. Their second goal came when my defender blocked a shot, but the rebound caught my goalie out of position and it goes in. They get a 3rd goal in the 75th minute off of a penalty kick. We actually got a few chances at the end, but couldn't find the net. LOSE 3-0

Masterton will be out for 2 weeks to a month. It begins already.

Promotion Odds

Dumbarton, Ayr and Alloa are given even odds for promotion. East Fife 6-4, Arbroat 7-4 and Albion Rovers are 2-1.

We are 20-1 to promote.

Scottish Third Division, Aug 4th vs. Arbroath
They score in the 4th minute off of a corner kick. In the 82nd minute, Ure ties it up for us when their goalie misplays the ball. DRAW 1-1

Scottish League Cup First Round, Aug 7th vs Partick (SCO First Division)
We face the impossible, again. They score in the 16th minute. Off of a corner, their first shot was blicked but they kick the rebound in. They score again the 37th minute off a cross. Callaghan is injured in the 78th minute. They add insult to injury in the 85th minute with another goal. LOSE 3-0

Callaghan is out for 2-4 weeks.

Scottish Third Division, Aug 11 vs Montrose
Biddle might have just lost his rotation spot as he missed an empty net shot when the goalie was caught trying to play the ball. He had all day and hit the post. We get a few more chances but can't get a goal. They have a player sent off in the 33rd minute. McBride gets us a goal in the 47th minute to give us the lead. WIN 1-0

Scottish Third Division, Aug. 18th vs. Dumbarton
We score first in the 22nd minute when Ure's shot is blocked, but McBride kicks in the rebound. They tie the game with a goal in the 37th minute. Ure gets sent off in the 55th minute when Ure gets his second yellow. They score in the 58th minute. We were dominating possession until Ure's sent off. LOSE 2-1

Scottish Third Division, Aug 25th vs. Elgin
We get the first score when Greig McDonald scores off a penalty kick. We get another penalty kick in the 49th minute, this time it's blocked. We get a goal in the 65th minute when their defender makes a bad pass to their goalie. Oops. WIN 2-0

Scottish Third Division, Sept. 8th vs. Ayr
I have a player sent off (Kevin McMullan) in the 35th minute. The game goes scoreless until injury time at the end of the game when McBride scores off a pass from Biddle. Sandy Young played a great game and got Man Of Match. WIN 1-0

Scottish Third Division, Sept. 15th vs Cowdenbeath
The first half goes scoreless. Ure scores in the 57th minute to give us the lead. They answer right back in the 58th minute off of a cross to tie it at 1. It stays that way for the rest of the game. DRAW 1-1

Scottish Third Division, Sept 22nd vs Alloa
They score in the 43rd minute. Not much else happens. LOSE 1-0

Scottish Third Division, Sept 29th vs East Fife
Ure misses a penalty kick in the 12th minute. He makes up for it in the 14th minute when he scores and gives us an early lead. They get a player sent off in the 39th minute for getting 2 yellows. They score in the 62nd minute to tie the game up. Pete Ross had an easy chance during injury time to give us the win, but failed. DRAW 1-1

Scottish Third Division, Oct 13th vs Dumbarton
They score in the 4th minute off of a cross. Biddle ties it up for us in the 35th minute. They take the lead in the 73rd minute. We lose to Dumbarton again 2-1 despite our dominating the possession. I may try an attacking tactic next time. LOSE 2-1

Scottish Third Division, Oct 20th vs. Albion Rovers
We had a breakway in the 18th minute, but Biddle hesitated, got his shot blocked but then Paul Tyrrell had a wide open shot off the rebound and missed. They score in the 55th minute. We had a few chances but couldn't get a score. LOSE 1-0

Scottish Third Division, Oct 27th vs. Montrose
McBride gets us on board with a goal in the 19th minute. Plenty of chances for both teasm the rest of the game, but no more goals. WIN 1-0

Scottish Cup First Round, Nov. 17th vs. Peterhead (SCO Second Division)

Scottish Third Division, Nov. 21st vs Elgin
They score in the 20th minute to take an early lead. They have a player sent off during injury time and we get a penalty kick, which Ure misses. Again, we dominate possession, get plenty of shots on goal, but can't get a single goal. LOSE 1-0

Derek Ure is out for 2 weeks to a month

Scottish Third Division, Dec 1st vs Cowdenbeath
Biddle scores in the 4th minute when their defender makes a bad pass to the goalie. They get a penalty shot in the 8th minute, but O'Connor stops it. They score in the 34th minute when Sobolewski passes it back to O'Connor and he kicks it a bit too far forward to set up a pass and their attacker just takes the ball and scores. Biddle gives us the go ahead goal in the 75 minute. WIN 2-1

(the board was having problems and I could not report on the match)

Scottish Third Division, Dec 22nd vs. Albion Rovers
They have a player sent off in the 27th minute. Callghan scores off of the free kick awarded for the foul. Thywissen gives us a 2 goal lead with a score in the 37th minute. Our defense stays strong and don't allow a single shot on goal. WIN 2-0

Scottish Third Division, Dec 26th vs East Fife

Callaghan gets us an early lead with a score in the 7th minute. They tie it up in the 9th minute when McDonald misjudges the ball and they get an easy shot on goal. They take the lead in the 32nd minute when they score off of a cross. Biddle ties the game in the 47th minute. Dymock gives us the lead in the 70th minute. We hold on for the come from behind win. With Derek Ure, Steven Dymock is proving himself. I may have a tough decision to make when Ure comes back.

I just lost Callaghan for 2 weeks to a month.

Scottish Third Division, Dec 29th vs Montrose

USA National Team Job

The US national team have offered me the job of managing their team. This seems incredibly....odd, considering my reputation is still "obscure", not to mention just the manager of third division Scottish club. I turn the offer down just on the premise that's it's pretty unrealistic that I would be offered the job.

Or is it? I can't imagine it would be common, or likely, that a manager in my position would be offered any kind of national job.

House Rule: I can't take a national team job unless my reputation is at least National (good house rule?)

EDIT: Screw it. After thinking about it for a minute, there's a good chance this game/dynasty gets put on the back burner (and possibly forgotten) when the new EHM games comes out. So I figure, what the hell.

I take the job.

Scottish Third Division, Jan. 5th vs Dumbarton
A scoreless first half. We only got 1 shot on goal while they got none. It wouldn't last as they score in the first 15 seconds of the second half. They score again the the 61st minute. Dymock gets us within 1 with a goal in the 74th minute. We can't even it up and we lose the game. LOSE 2-1

Scottish Third Division, Jan 12th vs Arbroath

We hit a penalty kick in the 10th minute to get started early. They tie it in the 72nd minute. DRAW 1-1

Scottish Third Division, Jan 19th vs Elgin
McBride scores in the 26th minute off a pass from Ure. They tie it in the 44th minute and right after the half, take the lead in the 46th minute. We had a chance in the 81st minute to tie it, but it went off the post. LOSE 2-1

Scottish Third Division, Jan 26th vs Ayr
Ayr takes an early lead when they score off of a rebound. They score again in the 19th minute when Young has the ball taken from him and they score easily. And then again in the 24th minute. We had 3 easy chances but missed on all of them in the 1st half. We get a few chances in the 2nd half too and it takes a penalty kick for us to finally get a shot in the net. And then they get it back with a goal in the 87th minute. Then, Dymock, in the 88th minute, takes the ball from the goalie in the goalie box, gets behind him, but turns around for some reason and gets a really weak shot off and the goalie is able to get to it. Dymock just lost his chance to stay on the senior squad. We then get a played red carded (Campbell)...LOSE 4-1

Scottish Third Division, Feb 2nd vs Cowdenbeath
Masterton sinks one in the 2nd minute off a free kick to give us an early lead. They tie the game in the 42nd minute. Gardiner scores in the 48th minute when he kicked in a rebound. They tie it again in the 58th minute. They take the lead in the 74th minute. We had a chance to tie it in the 88th minute, but Biddle missed it. LOSE 3-2

Scottish Third Division, Feb 9th vs Albion Rovers

They take the lead in the 29th minute. We tie it up in the 36th minute on a goal from Biddle. They score again in the 46th minute. Karl Anderson and Paul Gardiner are having exceptionally bad games. We tie it in the 74th minute on a goal from McBride. Ure gave us the lead in the 78th minute. Callaghan closes the deal with a goal during injury time. WIN 4-2

Scottish Third Division, Feb 16th vs Alloa

We dominated possession in the 1st half but don't score. We had a very easy chance to score in the 44th minute, but McBride hesitated on an open net and that allowed the goalie to get back into position to make the save. He makes up for it right away in the 46th minute by scoring for us. They tie it off a penalty kick in the 68th minute. We take the lead back in the 75th minute when McBride scores off a pass from Ure. WIN 2-1

Damn it. I accidently closed the browser window and lost the post. Here's a quick rundown of the games.

Matches

Scottish Third Division, March 1st vs. Montrose
They score quickly in the 3rd minute, but Ure ties it back up in hte 71st minute and it ends like that. DRAW 1-1

Scottish Third Division, March 8th vs Dumbarton
They jump out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the 7th and 9th minutes. McBride gets us one back in the 19th minute. In the second half, Ure scores in the 64th minute and then Masterton puts on in at the 73rd minute and we hold on from there. WIN 3-2

Scottish Third Division, March 15th vs. Arbroath
McBride gets us a goal early in the 19th minute and again in the 41st minute to give us the 2-0 lead at the half. Masterton scores in the 60th minute and then McBride finishes the hat trick in the 66th minute. They steal the shutout from us in the 88th minute. WIN 4-1

Scottish Third Division, March 22nd vs. Ayr
The first half goes uneventful as neither team gets a single shot on goal. Masterton scores in the 46th minute to get it going and then Callaghan gives us breathing room in the 84th minute. We again lose the shutout at the last minute. WIN 2-1

Scottish Third Division, March 29th vs. Cowdenbeath
Damn it! Ure is hurt again! He goes out in the 6th minute. They score in the 77th minute. Biddle is hurt and needs to come out as well. And that's the end of it. LOSE 1-0

We miss a chance to give us some room with our lose to Cowdenbeath. If we had won, we'd have a 5 point lead. As it is, we sit on a 2 point loead over Elgin and Dumbarton. We play Elgin next. At least we are just about assured a spot in the promotion playoff if we stumble out of first place.

Scottish Third Division, vs Elgin
Dymock scores for us in the 13th minute to give us an early lead. Callaghan scores off a penalty kick in the 89th minute. We dominated the game, not allowing Elgin to get a single shot on goal with we got plenty. WIN 2-0

A very much needed win. This will put us 5 points ahead of Elgin with 3 games to go. It'll be very hard for them to catch us now. The other half of it is Dumbarton. They drew in their game, so we now have a 4 point lead on them.

We play Alloa, East Fife and lastly Albion Rovers. We are 2-0-1 (W-D-L) against Alloa, 2-1-0 against East Fife and 2-0-1 against Albion Rovers. If I can win 2 out of 3, that will clinch it for me. A win and 2 draws will make it so the best Dumbarton can do is tie.

Callaghan gets injured in the second damn minute. I might as well reserve my seat in the playoff right now... Well, Biddle gets us a goal in the 12th minute to get us started early. They tie the game in the 74th minute. McBride comes through for us at the start of injury time and scores!!! WIN 2-1

Dumbarton and Elgin both won. Damn it....need another win.

2 more games to go, and a 4 point lead to protect. 1 more win, and we clinch 1st place (or if Dumbarton and Elgin both lose). And, Callaghan is gone for the last two games. And if we fall to 2nd or 3rd, he won't be back for the playoff. He's gone.

Ure misses a penalty kick in the 11th minute. And then in the 12th minute, Masterton completely missed on a free kick. I think he was trying to pass it....I hope this isn't a sign of the game my team is about to have. Ure redeems himself! He scores in the 14th minute to give us an early lead. Ure gets a second penalty kick and this time he nails it to give us a 2-0 lead at the 23rd minute. They get on board in the 50th minute, though, and cut the lead in half. Ure sinks another penalty kick in the 58th minute. They can't seem to stop fouling me in the goalie box. McBride scores in the 60th minute on a breakaway to give us a comfortable 4-1 lead. They score deep into injury time to get a second goal. But we finally finish the game off. WIN 4-2

We did it!!! We clinched 1st place and promotion to Second Division!!!

The press is going absolutely crazy over our win, as are the fans, board, and even a former coach of mine (now the head coach of an Enlgand Conference South team) praised me in the press.

Now, maybe, I can get those damn training facilities upgraded.

Our last game of the season. It's meaningless, but I would like to go out with a win. They score quickly in the 2nd minute. It goes scoreless most of the rest of the way, but then they score again in the 83rd minute. Oh well. LOSE 2-0

2008 Offseason News

May 10th - Matthew Biddle suffered a torn groin muscle in practice. He will be our for 4 weeks to 3 months. He'll probably be back at the start of the season. Weird that this happens 1 day before we break for the summer. Maybe I forgot to click a setting or something to not have my guys practice....

May 11th - Elgin will be coming up to the Second Division with me while Berwick gets demoted. Berwick won the Third Division last season, so I am a bit surprised to see them get kicked back down.

May 30th - The training facilities continue to be a problem. We got a lot of money for winning the division, however, we were bumped out of all 3 tournaments in the first round. That hurt us and East Stirling is still short of the funds to improve them. I've been snubbed by a few players. However, I may be making a "superstar" (relative for East Stirling anyway) signing soon.

June 1st
- Got 2 $10,000 Offers for Sean Roycroft. Ain't biting, he's just way too important for my defense.

June 6th - Despite offering a contract of more value than he asked for, the "superstar" (DM/AM C James McArthur of Hamilton) rejected our contract offer and chose to stay at Hamilton.

June 10th - 3 Friendlies have been scheduled. 2 vs. Premierleague teams (Rangers and Inverness CT) and 1 Second Division team (St. Johnstone).

June 19th
- I am told that I am expected to stay clear of relegation this season. Without new training facilities and not being able to bring in new talent...that will be hard.

June 30th - Sean Roycroft sold

Brechin made a proposal to buy Sean Roycroft for $18,000. I shot back a deal where I would sell him to Brechin for $22,000 with 2 added clauses. 5% if they should sell him, and a $26,000 Buy Back Price.

I go through with the sale. If my defense really crumbles and I think he is the lone missing piece, I'll buy him back.

July 6th - We signed several new players, but no one terribly exciting. Hoping they can fill in some holes. I was never really satisfied with the MC positions, and I need someone to step up and take over Roycroft's role on the team.

Scottish League Cup Draw - We catch a bit of a break and draw Brechin, a fellow Second Division Team and avoid having to face a SC1 team.

Scottish League Challenge Cup Draw - Not so lucky, we draw Livingston, a First Division team.

Defender Situation: I think with Wilson and McGuffie, my Defensive Center area should be good. McMullan owns the DR position, but I'm in trouble if he gets injured. For DL, Sobolewski, despite bad technical attributes, seems to get the job done adequately, but that was in Thrid Division. We'll see, but I'm worried about that side.

Midfielder Situation - Thywissen, Gardiner and Tyrell did a great job last year, but their lack of technical ability is a worry for me as we move up to the Second Division. I went and picked up several new MC players, hoping a few will step up. As of right now, Thywissen, Gardiner and Tyrrell still have their jobs, but they are all fighting for them right now. On the wings, Masterton and Callaghan were great, especially Callaghan, but they both have a history of injuries. At 31 years old, I don't know how much Callaghan has left, and I only have a few players there to back him up (who mostly play DL). Richard Prokas and Graeme Stewart can step into the MR postion if Masterton goes down. I feel really good about our Midfield, just as long as Callaghan stays healthy.

Physical: Pace 15, Acceleration 14, Stamina 11

Forward Situation: McBride is the only one I'm comfortable with. I hope Ure's speed advantage will carry over to the Second Divison. Other than that...we'll see. I may have to do a second look through the divisions to see if there are any forwards I can poach...

July 9th Friendly vs St. Johnstone (First Division)

We gave an early goal, but shut them out the rest of the way. Baird gets us the game tieing goal at the 79th minute to make the game a 1-1 tie.

Notable Observations (all players played for 45 minutes)
Scott Wilson went 10 for 12 on Headers, 2 key
Ryan McGuffie had 8 interceptions, Graig McDonald had 7.

July 18th Friedly vs. Rangers (Premiereleague)

We actually scored a goal, thanks to McBride. It was 2-1 Rangers at the half, and we're lucky to have that be the final score. Hey, a 2-1 against the best team in Scotland, friedly or no, I'll take it.

Notable Observations (all players played for 45 minutes)
McBride was the only player who managed to get a shot on goal. He got 2 of them.

July 23rd Friendly vs. Inverness CT (Premiereleague)

It was 4-0 destruction.

Notable Observations (all players played for 45 minutes)
McBride went for 12 headers, and lost all of them.

Challenge Cup 1st Round - July 26th vs. Livingston (First Division)
They score first off a penalty kick at the 14th minute. They score again in the 17th minute and I start to worry that the route is on. They go up 3-0 at the 20th minute. We are able to hold them off for the rest of the half. Wilson, McMullen and Gardener are playing weel (7 Rating). Everyone else is doing average or bad. They score right away in the 46th minute to make it 4-0. And they continue to destroy us until the end finally comes. LOSE 7-0

Second Division Match, August 2nd vs. Airdrie Utd

They score in the 20th minute. Their forward beat one of my defenders and pwned Young. They have a player sent off in the 73rd minute after getting his second yellow card. They had 4 other players get yellow carded. Biddle gets us the tieing goal at the 82nd minute. DRAW 1-1
