You begin to work on the book...

As you do, three of you make your way to the Typer Estate. After scrounging around, each of you has discovered a random item. Expect pms from me in a few minutes for what you have discovered. There is nothing left in the Estate to find for later it has now been thoroughly searched.

Meanwhile, the decoding on the Book has been going okay, but unfortunately, you have not done enough work today and it is incomplete.

Quest Action, Day Four, Failed.

You must finish it Day Five to continue the game.

Lynch is at 10 pm

Checking first on people who decoded. Someone check me here, and make sure my count is accurate.

CF
JAG x2
Simbo
CW x2
Boo
Font
Autumn
Saldana
Bitrock x1

If bitrock is half-effectiveness, that's 11. If he's zero effectiveness, that's 10 by my count. Someone check me before we start drawing conclusions.

Sabotage seems likely, especially if we had a count of 11 going in. I'll go back and check, CW, when I get a moment.

I went back and checked and we should have had more than enough. Our count was off, we should have had 11 units of work: JAG (2) / CF / Coffee (2) / boo / Britrock / Saldana / Autumn / fortisian / Simbo.

I would like to hear what was found at the estate from those that went on that mission.

cf, jag, (simbo) cw, boo, font, aut, sal, brit

That's what I found going back. Took me two trips to find Simbo, because of the way he put his order in. I know Abe noticed it so presumably he counted it.

I believe only Britrock is insane, right? He would normally count for two. So it seems we had plenty.

In which case, one of two scenarios.

There are 2 cultists, both of which are on that list.

Or there is 1 cultist on that list, and it's JAG. Why JAG? Because if an antiquarian gives 2 points for this mission, it's feasible that he also takes away 2 points in a sabotage.

Yeah, I think we should hold to a low-secrecy policy wiht stuff like those items. otherwise the cultists will just do those jobs and scarf up all that stuff.

Scenario 3) CW
scenario 4) A cultist has the ability to sabotage someone from getting work done.

I was going to say there's some danger of letting the cultists know about the items. But: 1) everybody already knows who has an item and 2) it's not clear the cultists can target anybody so it may not matter.

I'm not a cultist, though I can see why based on the failure you would think it's more likely to be Coffee or me as the single cultist faker rather than two cultists who faked work.

And yes, I'm also an antiquarian. However, I was also involved in the fighting last night, so I'd hope that'd at least earn me a little street cred.

Scenario 4 is, in my view, unlikely, just from a playability standpoint. We have to, at some point, have SOME sort of information to vote people on. Quest success/failure lists are the only information we, to date, can go on. Having a mystery power to sabotage from afar seems to unfair.

It's conceivable the bad guys can simply sabotage a quest, or stop someone else from working. I'm guessing that's not the case as then it would be impossible to ever catch them, basically. So I agree it's more likely the saboteur is on that list. But it's also possible there's more than one and they all sabotaged us.

Clearly it's all party of my master plan to earn trust while I secretly work your downfall and sacrifice you all to my demonic maste....wait, nevermind.

I'm actually working under the assumption that cultists probably wouldn't find up fighting off each other, and are excluded from random events like that. It's, yes, convenient for me, but it also makes sense.

We finally have some information to work with, so I'm not gung ho for a no lynch today. I would like to hear about the items found today because I think we might be able to learn something from them and there's no secret about what group of players found them anyway.

True, however. Here's the simple version of how I'm envisioning things went down last night.

1) Cultist decides to attack CR.
2) Random.org picks 2 people to get swept up in things.
3) People do damage, we have our result.

Regarding #2 in that list, I am believing that random.org excludes cultists when determining defenders. They may not know each other, but I doubt that means they get swept up in events like that.

I could be totally wrong, but that's how I'm envisioning things.

I'm more envisioning it that Abe drew out a map of CR's room on his gridded vinyl and placed everyone in their rooms and had them each take turns moving 12 squares each until they got into the room and only those that could get to the cultist could swing depending on who got their first, who woke up when the battle started, and whose room was closest. Before there were 4 of us battling as that was out in the open. Only 2 here because that's how things shook out. Surprsised really that the soldiers don't go up front in every battle and this explains why at least.

If I was a cultist I would want to keep from being attacked by crazies and definitely would want to help others a little so that they trust me. I'm just not seeing any choice by actual players here yet except to keep us from completing our quest.

Sucks that we failed the main quest, by the count I saw we only got to 10/10 counting britrock as insane, right? So if that's correct it didn't necessarily have to be an antiquarian faking the work or counting as negative.

There is, of course, nothing preventing people from relaying what items they found, if they want. I was asked that in a pm. Wanted to clear that out. Juts don't quote the pm please - put it all in your own words

If the items you found can shed light or any useful information, then I do think you should share, but if not, I don't have a problem with people withholding that info. I was thinking we had a player fake going to the estate because four went but the write-up said three did, and that we could figure out who by seeing who got the items (or told the worst lie). But that's a moot point now.

Sigh. I'm torn here.

I'm leaning towards lynching JAG. But he's also an Antiquarian, and if he's NOT a Cultist, we could very much use his help to finish the book tomorrow. However, if he IS a Cultist, and I'm right and he counts as a -2, then we're going to have an even tougher time tomorrow. (And could outright lose, if I'm reading the quest notes right).

So where I am is either at least Coffee faked his work or two from that list did. I'm leaning towards two just because I think we're dealing with more than one cultist after three nights of attempted conversions, though that doesn't mean it couldn't be Coffee and another person. So that's two out of 8 odds to hit a cultist assuming that's correct. Not a lot else to go on to pick someone from that list though. Don't suppose anyone knows something else?

In Autumn's favor, he was locked up last night when we had some cultist activity so he's probably a less likely candidate.

Also Coffee, I think unless the cultists have some really impressive way to stop us, we should easily complete the decoding tomorrow. The write up said we made good progress which means we probably start tomorrow with a good chunk of the work already done.
