Jofre Garners CL Batter of the Month Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: Not known for his offensive prowess, Héctor Jofre set the league afire in April and took home the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The Halifax first baseman posted a steady .337 batting average, 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 15 runs.


Lai Crowned Top RL Hitter in April
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: Luo-han Lai battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Lai told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Lai hit .381 with 13 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

CL Top Pitcher Award for April to Nicholls
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: Emerson Nicholls has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-1 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 5 starts Nicholls compiled a 2.10 ERA, putting up a 4-1 record, striking out 22 and tossing 34.1 innings.


Gibson Is April's Best RL Hurler
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: Veteran Ben Gibson put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Gibson racked up a 4-2 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.30 ERA over 43 innings and striking out 29.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Kevin Clark just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 22-year-old third baseman for Napa Valley hit .281 with 25 hits, 3 home runs and 10 runs batted in. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .297 on-base percentage.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2149: John Francis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .345 average with 29 hits, no home runs and 13 RBIs.

Hathaway Grabs CL Best Batter Award for May
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: Mike Hathaway, the Noblesville Millers first baseman, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with May's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .339 batting average while tallying up 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 9 walks and a .395 on-base percentage.

Currently Hathaway is batting .344 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs.


Katsuhiko Konishi Selected May's Best Batter
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: May was a good month for Katsuhiko Konishi. The Ann Arbor right fielder had his way with opposing pitchers all month while posting a .320 batting average and was selected as the Republic League Batter of the Month.

Last month Konishi put up some solid numbers: 11 home runs, 32 RBIs, 22 runs scored and a .405 on-base percentage.

This season Konishi has hit at a .267 clip with 51 RBIs, 20 home runs and 47 runs scored. He has played in 52 games.

Best Pitcher Picked by Continental League
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: In May, Maurice LaRose tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.

The young Noblesville starter posted a 5-1 mark and an ERA of 2.40 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 41.1 innings he collected 26 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .213 average.

So far this year LaRose has compiled a 8-2 record with a 3.03 ERA.


Bruins Colón Named RL's Best Pitcher
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: Raúl Colón has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Bruins bullpen ace collected 10 saves and 28 strikeouts in 19.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .257 average and posting a 0.92 ERA and a 0-0 record.

To date, Colón has 15 saves. In 26 relief appearances he has tossed 30 innings, fanned 39 and given up 8 walks with no wins and 3 losses. The Los Angeles reliever has recorded a 3.90 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .292 when he on the mound.

Clark Named May's #1 Newcomer
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: Kevin Clark was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Clark batted .223 for Napa Valley, slapping 23 hits in 103 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored 7 times.

For the year Clark is hitting .250 with 6 home runs. His stats include 22 runs batted in and 19 runs scored.


Top Republic League Newcomer Named
Sunday, June 1st, 2149: It was an exceptional month, especially for rookie Fernando Guillén. The center fielder for the Hammersmith Hooligans performed like a veteran and was named the best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .321 in 28 games with 36 hits, 7 home runs and 19 RBIs.

This year Guillén is batting .275 with 13 home runs.

CL's #1 Batter Announced
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: Noblesville center fielder Carlos Manuel took home the Continental League Batter of the Month Trophy for June.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .409 batting average and .504 on-base percentage with 38 hits, 6 home runs, 14 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

This season Manuel has banged out 99 hits in 304 at-bats for a .326 average with 14 home runs. He is getting on base at a .422 pace and his totals also include 38 RBIs and 53 runs scored.


Spencer Claims RL Batter of the Month Award
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: Bobby Spencer of the Hammersmith Hooligans had a field day with Republic League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During June he compiled a .436 batting average, drove in 22 runs and scored 18 times. He also managed to pick up 11 walks to post a .486 on-base percentage.

This year Spencer is batting .377 with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Cabanes Earns June's Best Pitcher Honor
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: Prímio Cabanes's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in June, the 31-year-old Noblesville hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 27 in 34.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.83 and allowed opponents to hit .227 against him.

This year Cabanes has compiled a 7-5 record with a 2.65 ERA in 16 starts.


Gibson Nabs RL #1 Pitcher Award
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: Last month was a very successful month for Ben Gibson of Ann Arbor. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the Republic League.

Gibson shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out June with an impressive 4-1 mark and 2.39 ERA in 5 starts with 9 strikeouts in 37.2 innings.

This year Gibson has made 16 starts, thrown 108.2 innings, fanned 54 batters and walked 20. His won-lost record is 11-3 with a 2.57 ERA.

CL Rookie Vote Goes to Clark
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: Kevin Clark earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Napa Valley third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Clark hit .316 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Clark is batting .272 with 79 hits, 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, .315 OBP and has scored 32 runs.


June's #1 Newcomer Named by RL
Tuesday, July 1st, 2149: In June, budding star Fernando Guillén had quite a month as he smashed up the Republic League and stashed away the Rookie of the Month award in his trophy case.

During the month he hit .371 with 5 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Guillén also scored 23 times and drove in 17 runs.

In his stats this season, Guillén has posted a batting average of .306 with 92 hits in 301 at-bats, 20 home runs and 54 RBIs. He has also scored 59 runs, walked 21 times and compiled a .365 OBP.

July's CL Batter of Month Award Announced
Friday, August 1st, 2149: Carlos Manuel was at the top of the hit parade in the Continental League throughout July. For the outstanding month, the talented Noblesville center fielder was chosen the Batter of the Month.

He compiled a .345 average with 29 hits, 12 home runs, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Manuel has socked 128 hits in 388 at-bats for a .330 average with 26 home runs. He is getting on base at a .422 pace and his totals also include 59 RBIs and 76 runs scored.


Carlton Earns July's Top Batter Prize in RL
Friday, August 1st, 2149: Snap, crackle and pop!
In July, Dave Carlton snapped up the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 46 hits and popping 3 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .434 with 15 RBIs and 28 runs scored. The Chico third baseman also picked up 9 walks to compile a .483 on-base percentage.

For the year Carlton is batting .364 with 151 hits and 15 home runs. He has scored 77 times and driven in 76.

July's Best CL Hurler is McLannon
Friday, August 1st, 2149: There was nobody finer on the mound in July and Patrick McLannon cruised to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA while piling up 21 strikeouts in 29.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .200 batting average.

So far this year McLannon has 8 wins and 6 losses and a 3.55 ERA.


López Takes RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Friday, August 1st, 2149: It was a very good month for Tony López in July. The 36-year-old veteran starter for the Chico Rebels outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

López ran up a 5-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 38.2 innings he fanned 26 and recorded a 2.79 ERA.

To date this season, López has a record of 9 wins and 8 losses and a 4.14 ERA. He has appeared in 22 games and struck out 104 in 150 innings.

Reginald Oprel Captures Rookie of Month
Friday, August 1st, 2149: Reginald Oprel takes the hill with uncharacteristic poise for a man of so few years. Oprel is just a lad, but he strung together some solid starts last month to win the Continental League Rookie of the Month crown.

In July he held opponents to a .217 average as he struck out 33 in 27 innings. In 4 starts he nailed down 3 wins, suffered no losses and compiled a 2.67 ERA.

In 15 starts this year Oprel has recorded a 8-1 record and a 2.60 ERA.


Francis Hauls in July's Best Rookie Award
Friday, August 1st, 2149: Youngster John Francis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .380 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Francis enjoy the limelight.

Francis currently has a .280 batting average with 94 hits, 6 homers, 41 RBIs, 49 runs scored and a .333 OBP.

CL Honors Batterham, Best Hitter in August
Monday, September 1st, 2149: For the month of August, Aidan Batterham of the Napa Valley Winemakers has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Continental League pitchers to the tune of a .327 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Batterham went 34 for 104 last month with 10 walks. The right fielder tallied 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, 22 runs scored and compiled a .393 on-base percentage.

In 127 games Batterham is hitting .290 this season with 144 hits, 18 home runs, 60 RBIs, 48 walks, .366 OBP and has scored 77 runs.

Monday, September 1st, 2149: Katsuhiko Konishi of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines stood out at the plate during August. The 25-year-old right fielder manhandled Republic League pitchers by batting .375 and was selected the Batter of the Month.

Konishi collected 39 hits with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 24 times.

Hitting .284 to date, Konishi has 32 home runs and 95 RBIs. He has played in 127 games.

CL Premier Pitcher is Noblesville's LaRose
Monday, September 1st, 2149: The Continental League hitters didn't have a chance in August when the Noblesville Millers manager wrote "LaRose" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Maurice LaRose held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 1.80 ERA in 5 starts. The talented Millers star pitched 35 innings, fanned 32 and held opposing teams to a .190 average.

For his superb mound work LaRose was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season-to-date, LaRose has fashioned a 16-4 mark and 2.75 ERA in 173.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .223 against him and he has logged 153 strikeouts.


August's Top Starter Named in RL
Monday, September 1st, 2149: Bartolo Romano took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in August. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Ann Arbor last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.06 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 43.2 innings and striking out 20.

This season Romano has registered 16 wins and 2 losses in 26 starts with a 3.46 ERA.

Trujillo Tabbed CL's Top Rookie
Monday, September 1st, 2149: Ramón Trujillo's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Halifax catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In August he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .304 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Trujillo also scored 9 times and drove in 11 runs.

During the current season Trujillo is batting at a .225 clip with no home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 122 games and scored 26 times.


Sweet Swing, Sweet Month for Rookie Miranda
Monday, September 1st, 2149: The most productive Republic League rookie in August was Chico's right fielder Carlos Miranda.

Last month he played in 27 games and hit .324 with 6 doubles, no triples, and 3 home runs. Miranda also scored 15 times and drove in 16 runs.

Thus far this season Miranda is hitting .286 with 13 home runs, 75 RBIs and 64 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 472 at-bats and has played in 129 games.
