Okada Wins Best Bat Trophy in April
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: On the heels of a very productive April, Motonobu Okada received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .398 for the St Cloud Raindrops and racked up 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored.


RL's #1 Batter Announced
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: Juan De La Cruz battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 34-year-old De La Cruz told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 22 games, De La Cruz hit .434 with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

Washington's Martínez CL Top Pitcher
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: Edgardo Martínez has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Freedom bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 11 strikeouts in 13.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .217 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 0-0 record.


Hope April's Best Hurler in RL
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: Veteran Silvino Hope put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Ann Arbor Wolverines, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Hope racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.72 ERA over 36.1 innings and striking out 27.

Jackson Grades Out as April's Top Rookie
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: Brad Jackson was selected as the Continental League Rookie of the Month for the excellent performance he put together last month.

In April the 28-year-old right fielder for Plantana hit .284 with 21 hits, 1 home run and 6 RBIs. He posted an OBP of .338 and played in 20 games.


Pacheco Chosen RL's Best Newcomer
Thursday, May 1st, 2087: April was a very good month for José Pacheco. The center fielder for the Ann Arbor Wolverines was named the best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .284 in 21 games with 23 hits, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Aguilar Cops CL Batter of the Month Honors
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: In May, Roberto Aguilar let his bat do the talking for him. The Havana center fielder smacked the ball at a .318 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 14 home runs, drove in 25 and scored 23 runs.

Aguilar is hitting at a .271 mark this season. His stats show 15 home runs, 29 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has played 49 games for the Banana Sluggers.


RL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Mercado
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 33-year-old António Mercado put together a solid offensive month for Cleveland and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .351 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



For the year Mercado has hit .311 with 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 33 runs.

CL's Top Starter is Pantoja
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: The Havana Banana Sluggers celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that António Pantoja had been selected as May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month. Pantoja's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Pantoja said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Pantoja tossed 35.2 innings last month, holding opponents to a .215 average while striking out 24 batters. In 5 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 1.51.

This season Pantoja has fanned 43 in 63.1 innings and collected a 6-1 record with a 1.85 ERA.


Magana Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: The Pitcher of the Month Award has been chosen and the Republic League winner is Las Vegas bullpen specialist, José Magana. For his excellent work in May he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, he excelled with 5 saves in 5 save opportunities, a 0.73 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 12.1 innings Magana struck out 8 and gave up 15 hits and 5 walks.

This season Magana has 9 saves with a 4-0 mark and 0.69 ERA.

May's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: Brad Jackson sure isn't playing like the rookie he is. The 28-year-old right fielder for Plantana is rapping the ball like a seasoned veteran in the Continental League and today he took home the Rookie of the Month Award for his effort.

In May, Jackson compiled a .345 batting average. He drove in 14 runs, hit 3 home runs and scored 10 times.

So far this season Jackson has hit .317 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and and scored 20 times.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, June 1st, 2087: Youngster José Guilléin emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .363 with 5 home runs and 19 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Guilléin enjoy the limelight.

For the season Guilléin is hitting .281, batted in 22 runs with 6 home runs and 28 runs scored.

Okada Wins CL Batter of the Month
Tuesday, July 1st, 2087: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Motonobu Okada can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 34-year-old left fielder for St Cloud was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .281 with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

This year Okada has collected a .295 batting average to date with 97 hits in 329 at-bats, 66 RBIs, 21 home runs and scored 65 times. He has played in 78 games.


RL's Best Batter Picked
Tuesday, July 1st, 2087: Greg Sisson capped off a fine June by being named the Republic League Batter of the Month today.

Maricopa's center fielder hit .325 while collecting 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scoring 22 runs. He also drew 4 walks to post an OBP of .341.

To date, Sisson has collected 100 hits for a .310 average. He has posted 19 home runs, scored 58 runs and driven in 62 runs.

June's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Gonzáles
Tuesday, July 1st, 2087: June was a magical month for Marcos Gonzáles of Oshawa. He held the Continental League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 3-0 mark and a 1.90 ERA.

Gonzáles also chalked up 6 starts, 42.2 innings and 51 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the season Gonzáles has compiled a 6-3 record with a 3.07 ERA.


RL Starter of the Month Goes to Zein
Tuesday, July 1st, 2087: When Amlak Zein takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Maricopa victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 6-0 mark and a 1.47 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 43 innings, fanned 29, and held enemy hitters to a .158 average.

That's why the Rattlers star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This season Zein has compiled a 9-3 mark, 3.19 ERA and made 16 starts.

Stafford Left Fielder CL's Best Batter in July
Friday, August 1st, 2087: Beach balls were coming in at Carl Desbiens in July and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .284 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 30-year-old Stafford left fielder collected 31 hits last month in 27 games. He put up 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Desbiens also drew 18 walks and compiled a .392 on-base percentage.

This year Desbiens is batting .306 with 17 home runs.


July's Premier Batter Announced
Friday, August 1st, 2087: Waikiki's Jeff Lawrence had a productive July and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Republic League.

The 27-year-old center fielder stood out at the plate with a .368 batting average, 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This year Lawrence is batting .331 with 23 home runs and 68 RBIs. In 96 games he has scored 66 times.

Friday, August 1st, 2087: Tim Johnson was firing on all cylinders in the month of July with 3 wins as he steamrolled all Continental League opposition on his way to the Pitcher of the Month award.

July's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself
Friday, August 1st, 2087: Plantana's Senzo Takahashi put the wraps on an excellent month today, topping it off with the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 28-year-old Plantana first baseman played in 18 games and hit .245 with 1 double, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Takahashi also scored 6 times and drove in 19 runs.

So far this season Takahashi has hit .243 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs and and scored 33 times.


José Guilléin Named RL Rookie of Month
Friday, August 1st, 2087: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, José Guilléin just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Over the past month the 23-year-old catcher for Cleveland hit .259 with 21 hits, 3 home runs and 11 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .303 on-base percentage.

Monday, September 1st, 2087: Shinsui Kono mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the Continental League Batter of the Month title.

Kono batted .326 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Republic League Picks August's Best Batter
Monday, September 1st, 2087: Hui-ying She of the Portland Axemen spoke softly and carried a big stick in August and was justifiably proclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Axemen right fielder rapped out a .362 batting average with 46 hits in 127 at-bats, drove in 37, scored 18 runs and chalked up a .371 on-base percentage.

She is hitting .313 this season with 28 home runs, 122 RBIs and 71 runs scored. He has 176 hits in 563 at-bats.

Monday, September 1st, 2087: Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the Continental League in August?
Answer: That would be António Pantoja of the Havana Banana Sluggers.
He excelled with a 5-1 mark and a 2.52 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 39.1 innings, fanned 15 and held opposing teams to a .228 average. That's exactly why the Continental League scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month.

Checking out his stats for the season, Pantoja has notched 16 wins and 5 losses in 26 starts, 2.87 ERA and struck out 108 batters in 163.1 innings.


Perrier RL Winner, Top Hurler in August
Monday, September 1st, 2087: When the Beach Boys skipper wrote Perrier on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in August he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 0.96 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Beach Boys star pitched 46.2 innings, fanned 33 and held opposing teams to a .167 average.

For his excellent mound work Perrier was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Perrier has 14 wins and 7 losses and a 3.27 ERA.

Monday, September 1st, 2087: Pedro López was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old shortstop definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen August's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games López batted .265 for St Cloud, slapping 22 hits in 83 at-bats with no home runs, drove in 6 runs and scored 12 times.

López is currently batting .261 with 1 home run, 44 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has 103 hits in 394 at-bats.


Rookie Reaps Reward This Month
Monday, September 1st, 2087: For a man of advanced years in baseball terms, Raúl Mendoza is defying all logic by wading through his first Republic League season. Nonetheless, Mendoza is proving a formidable performer for Waikiki, at least as far as this past August is concerned. Today he was hailed as the Republic League Rookie of the Month.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2087: Rudy Grierson was the anchor in the St Cloud bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for September. The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 14.1 innings over 13 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 19 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 2.51 ERA.

This year Grierson has made 71 relief appearances, pitched 75 innings, and fashioned a 6-7 record with a 3.60 ERA. He has recorded 36 saves, struck out 96, and allowed opposing clubs to hit .234 when he is on the hill.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2087: José Espinoza is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for September.
