Anxious to hear about this, never looked into it at all but I've heard nothing but great things from the people who played the demo.

Is there any form of co-op in it? Got to a point where I don't really buy a console game that doesn't.

No Co-Op.. but after playing it for a hour.. it made me want to call in sick to work.. really alot of fun

It really is gta in a war setting.. and apparently you get 3 factions to choose from as the game progressions(according to your actions)

Jeez, I never paid any attention to this game, because every time I saw the title, I assumed it was some MechWarrior type of game. Oops.

This game begs for co-op!

I've just spent a good three hours playing and damn is this good. It really is like GTA with a war setting. So far I've done jobs for the Russian Mafia, The Chinese, and South Koreans and the UN type force. I just completed a mission where I had to snipe a few of the Russian Mafia goons which just tanked my faction ratings with them because I was noticed.

The number of vehicles to drive is incredible. Everything from civilian to the best the militaries have to offer. Weapon selection is huge, including the ability to call in ari strikes using cluster bombs and laser guided stuff. It's all here.

If you enjoy the GTA style of play this is a must buy game.

This game sounds intriguing, but I'm wondering the same thing. First person shooters usually make me sick. Is it a 1st person or 3rd person perspective in this game?

I also suffer from motion sickness with some first person shooters and don't have any problems with Mercenaries at all thanks to the third person view.

I don't think I will either. I usually don't with third person view games. I'll have to check this out sometime soon, it sounds interesting.

How is the language? My son wants to play this game but if there is a lot of sexual content and cussing, I don't want to get it.

If he plays Halo, does this fit that bill?

It's rated Teen for Mild Language and Violence. Halo is rated M. I haven't heard any swearing... but I've also been busy blowing tihngs up so I might have missed something.

I picked this up today (I was debating between this and HOI2, but couldn't find HOI2 anywhere so it made it an easy choice) and, I'm very glad that I did pick this up. I planned on just playing for an hour or two as a break from FM. However, I ended up playing about 4 hours tonight and really enjoying the game. I can't wait to play some more tomorrow before/after the playoff games.

My only criticism is that my character can either take a lot of damage (I chose the American because I figured I would suck and need to be able to take a lot of damage) or the enemy is a horrible shot. However, that could be just because I'm early in the game and they want to make it accessible. I'm guessing the game will become harder as it progresses.

I just saw that

I was trying to get the 6 of Clubs.. well I don't want to give away anything to anyone who hasn't done that mission, but wow. I see that the difficulty is going to pick up nicely

I've made it to the "Hearts" and am stuck.

It's not a card mission, but a mission that involves keeping folks alive. I got so mad at it after trying it a few times that I finally turned it off until I can think of a way around the problem.

I don't want to say more than that because it would give things away and I am trying to keep this spoiler free.

I'm also trying to keep this spoiler free, but I solved my problem with the 6 of clubs. I found that sometimes going in logical order of catching each card after a mission is not always the best thing. I LOVE the RPG

Today, I finally figured out what you mean by this question

I've captured every club except the ace, and now I'm making sure I do all of the challenges. The furthest I've moved the barrel is 72.41 meters (not that good I know but I was getting bored with that particular challenge.) My best score in a challenge is 15 jeeps destroyed in 6 minutes and 35 seconds (It was hard to find the last two.)

There is one challenge that I'm still having trouble completing.

The Jeep thing gave me a headache!

There is a simple method for moving the barrel hundreds of meters... You'll get a real bang out of it once you figure it out.

Ahh! Silly me actually kicking and bashing it

On the one challenge where you have to throw a jeep, I threw it 207 meters!

Uhh, as someone who's never played this game, you're all saying some funny-sounding stuff. If NBA Street 3 and Winning Eleven 8 weren't coming out this week, I'd get Mercenaries. Instead, it'll have to wait.

Edit: Oh, NBA Street 3 is coming out next week (for XBox, anyway). In that case... we'll see.

It's a very fun game even if my first Ace contract keeps kicking my butt.

Aw crap I missed that one, now I have to find it! Sounds fun.

Pumpy, I have never played anything in the "street" franchise but I've read the reviews and they sound fun. Have you played NFL Street as well as NBA Street? Which did you prefer? I imagine they are similar to MLB Slugfest in being "over the top" type of play.

I'll try to keep this short, as I don't want to threadjack.

I've played NFL Street 2 and NBA Street 2. I prefer the NBA Street series because basketball translates to "the street" better than football does. It also flows better, since it's nonstop action. I haven't played street football in 15 years or so, but I don't remember us huddling up and calling defenses or picking between passes and runs. It was every man for himself, and the NFL Street series doesn't really capture that at all. It's still a fun game, but the NBA Street series tops it.

Both games are much more fun than MLB Slugfest to me, though. I have the latest Slugfest ("Loaded"), and it was fine for a while, but I don't think baseball is the right sport for that type of environment. Bring back the old-style NHL Hitz (not that NHL Hitz Pro junk)!

Thanks Pumpy!

Back on topic:

I love the freedom in this game. The ability to 'jack any vehicle including copters is just plain fun.

I have found interesting and creative uses for fuel trucks that has saved me money. Grab a copter and winch a fule truck. Drop it on or near your target. Collect about 5 or 6 fule trucks in one area then swoop down and shoot at them with the copter. Saves you from spending money opn an air strike.

Still looking for the jeep toss thingy! Give me a hint!

It's SW of the original allied base (more or less.)

One other hint, I found it while flying a helicopter.

I just got this game and started playing it. I've only managed to get the 2 of clubs so far, but I have intel on the 4 and the 5. I'll grab 'em after I wake up in the morning. Great game!

I got this game from gamefly on a rental and was curious what people think of it now that they've probably gotten pretty deep into it. My early impressions are very positive, but I'm curious how well it holds up over time. Does it keep you wanting to play long-term or does it get boring and repetitive?

For me it became a little repetitive after the first half of the game. To be honest, it also became difficult and frustrating, so perhaps it was not so much the repetitive nature but the challenging nature that has prevented me from beating it..
