looking for help with upcoming WW game
I'm planning to do a game based on the Marvel comics universe. Players will have the ability to request their character (hero or villain). Every role will be unique, with special powers - no ordinary villagers in this one.
This is going to make game balance a little bit tricky. So, I'm asking people that may be interested in playing this one to request their character now. The WW role should reflect the spirit of the character, although it may not be an exact replica. Example - there has to be a way for someone like Captain America to have equal value, in some way, to Hulk. Posting here is not making a commitment to play the game - I'm 2nd on the list right now so I expect that I'm looking at a mid-January starting date. When the actual sign-up is posted characters will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. So asking for Wolverine here does not mean you will necessarily get Wolverine in the actual game. But by listing your character here I can begin work on balancing the multiple roles so that when the sign-up comes around I have a lot "cramming" to do in order to have the game ready to start. One last note - this will be a fairly complex game in that you will know your own powers, but not the powers of the other roles except by inferring them from the comics. I don't want that to necessarily discourage someone from playing, but I did want to set expectations. New last note - thanks to the folks who have taken a look at the rule set to help me get ready for this game. Thanks! Current Requests (26 and counting): Hawkeye - created Iron Man - created Professor Xavier - created Spiderman - created Nightcrawler - created Venom - created Moon Knight - created Vision - created Mystique - created Gambit - created Dr. Doom - created Mandarin - created Grim Reaper - created Juggernaut - created Longshot - created Mathemanic - created Henry Pym (and his 73 different hero guises) - created Wolverine - created Hobgoblin - created Nick Fury - created Silver Surfer - created Hulk - created Mr. Fantastic - created Whizzer - created Cyclops - created Captain America - created Jean Greay - pending Magneto - pending Daredevil - pending Red Skull - pending Last edited by hoopsguy : 12-22-2006 at 07:56 AM. Gram, you keep the same character whether you are a good guy or an evil guy. So if you want Venom it will not mean you are playing a wolf and if you want Spiderman it will not mean you are playing a villager.
I've got all of the submissions generated so far. It is a huge help being able to do this before the official sign-up, so thanks for the help. |

Did you make Hawkeye like 616 Hawkeye or Ultimates Hawkeye, who is more like 616 Bullseye?
EDIT: If somepone else wantsa the Hawkeyea, we would have to chose anotehr character, right? Do you want to know my backup character?

Anxiety, I went with the Hawkeye character I know from the Avengers comics back in the early 90s. I ran across the 616 Hawkeye in the Wikipedia article, but did not incorporate that into the version I created here.
If someone else claims Hawkeye first in the official sign-up thread they would get him. If you want to submit a backup pick here that is fine. I expect that the extra characters I generate will be assigned to people who sign up but do not have familiarity with the Marvel universe. I just don't want to have to create 15-20 unique roles when the game starts, as it would likely increase the lag from sign-up to game start. |

That's 616 Hawkeye, regular, normal Hawkeye with the arrows and the deafness and the personal combat training of Captain America himself. Blade: Love the Moon Knight pick! Backup Character: Vision

OK, had to actually look up Moon Knight. Was familiar with the character in general terms, but have never read his comic.
Vision is one I know and I'll work on him soon. |

Upon further review, it looks like this is the person you referenced:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_(comics) However, I am trying to keep the characters consistent with Marvel comics. The primary reason is to give me a common reference point for creating the powers/abilities for each of the characters. I have a reference site that is extremely helpful with this. The secondary reason is that I can put together a better story if I know something about the characters and their shared history within a common Marvel universe. |

Here is the site that I'm using, in conjunction with Wikipedia, for determining the powers for each of the characters:
http://www.classicmarvel.com/cast_list/heroes.htm - list of good guys http://www.classicmarvel.com/cast_list/rogues.htm - list of villains There are both Marvel and DC entities listed here. I would strongly prefer using Marvel characters. If you have a Marvel character that is not listed on one of these two links please let me know and provide some source material to help me to research this character. Thanks! |

Saldana, that is the one bad guy you can not pick as he is the head villain in this scenario. Basically I'm going to be running a modified version of "The Twelve" plot line, and I need him as the head bad guy. The other bad guys will be the four horsemen of Apocalypse.

Eric Williams, eh? Excellent! My number three choice would have been Simon Williams, Eric's older brother, Wonder Man. My number two choice, Vision, has Simon's brain patterns and has been accepted into the Williams family as a third son.

Some of the more interesting character dynamics from the listed characters:
Nightcrawler/Mystique Grim Reaper/Vision Iron Man/Mandarin SpiderMan/Venom (duh) For what it is worth, not all characters are going to be created exactly equal in terms of roles - too hard to do with all of them being unique and with the relative powers in the comics. But I am striving to give each character the ability to impact the outcome of the game at the very least at a level beyond the "average villager" in a standard werewolf game. |

I'm having a lot of fun trying to balance these roles - hope that it works out fairly well when the game actually rolls around. |

Sure, as if creating powers for Moon Knight that gave him (as a likely hero) more power by moonlight wasn't tough enough
If it is a serious request, I'll work on it. |

it isn't a serious request hoops, I thought it was funny. If I were to pick a alternate to Mandarin, there would be several I would consider. i thought about the original Human Torch (especially since that is the basis of the Vision's body) i thought about a couple of other villians (Super Skrull, Fin Fan Foom,Sandman) my alternate though if ihad to choose would be
Henry Pym aka Giant Man aka Yelowjacket aka Ant man |

Mathemanic - I'll create him but there is almost zero information available for him on Wikipedia or marvel.com. If you have anything that you can provide as source material for him that would be great.
Henry Pym is a pretty easy one for me to put together. |

Stunned it took this long for a Wolverine request
I have enough to create Mathemanic, but with just the bare bones source material I would not be able to be very creative in doling out his powers. I do not want it to be patently obvious who is the (one of the???) seer in this format. Sure, it might be Professor Xavier. But maybe not ... |

Cronin, what I'm planning on doing is taking the people I generate here and posting them as options for people who sign up and do not declare a character. I want people who are attached to characters to have the option to select their guy. For people who want to play WW but don't know the Marvel universe I'll assign them someone and send them a couple of links so they can have an idea about their character history.

While I'm not well versed in comics a few do intrigue me:
Green Goblin or Hobgoblin Nick Fury Silver Surfer Also while he doesn't intrigue me as much, the Hulk should be a part of things.

I always loved Plastic Man and the Flash, but those are both DC -- however, Marvel does have Elongated Man and Whizzer as approximations. Heh. Whizzer. I like that one.

Ironically, I just took a test to find out which Avenger I am and:
Hawkeye You scored 31 Power, 50 Intelligence, and 66 Teamwork! aka: Goliath, Golden Archer You are an expert archer. How good? You could split a dime in half edge-wise from 100 yards. You also carry several trick arrows like gas, explosion, and glue arrows. You're not bad in hand-to-hand combat either thanks to your teacher Captain America. You were briefly regarded as a criminal which was partially due to your infatuation with Black Widow, but you cleared that up with the help of Iron Man and have been an Avenger off and on ever since. You met your future wife Mockingbird during an off period, and you were made leader of the west coast branch of the Avengers when you came back. Unfortunately, your wife died trying to protect you and that soured your long tenure with the team. Your female counter-part is Wasp. You are least like Iron Man. Quicksilver is more powerful. Captain America is more intelligent. Falcon is less teamwork oriented.

And what was the link for this, Anxiety? Figure it might be fun to include with signup for the game if there are people playing who are not familiar with Marvel and want to pick their character this way.

Correct, and the Avengers make up maybe 25% of the above list.
By the way, for anyone currently reading comics - Wolverine is now an Avenger? WTF? |

No team includes a majority of marvel characters - there are too many However, the Avenegrs have had most of the Marvel heavies in it: Spider-Man Hulk Thor Iron Man Captain America Wolverine Those are probably six of the seven major Marvel characters with their own comic (Daredevil being the other). Toss in Reed Richards, Thing and Sue who were Avengers and you have 3/4s of the Fantastic Four. Then add a ton of second tier characters like Black Panther, Sub-Mariner, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Vision, Scarlet Witch, The Original Human Torch, Hercules and She-Hulk and you have a large list of characters from across the Marvel spectrum including mutants, aliens, deities, soldiers and other powered beings.

Quicksilver
You scored 37 Power, 50 Intelligence, and 66 Teamwork! You're really fast. You can run at hypersonic speeds, and do some crazy things due to your speed like create cyclones with your arms. Your temperament is as mercurial as your namesake, but despite that you're a long standing member and a great teammate besides. It would take something really drastic for you to betray your fellow Avengers. Like maybe a discussion about killing your sister the Scarlet Witch. You're life has always been a bit complicated with your father being Magneto, but you've managed well. You married the inhuman Crystal who you share a child with, but her infidelities have caused a spilt and with your recent change in powers, life is not as it used to be. Your female counter-part is Tigra, and you are least like Spider-Man. Thor is more powerful. Hawkeye is less powerful. Hank Pym is more intelligent. Luke Cage is less teamwork oriented. Interesting who I was...something about the Q's and me.
