Some pretty good match-ups...going to be interested to see who the board picks on a couple of these.

The dashes between 129 and 64 are making a surprise early run. That'll bust some brackets.

Just a note, that I set this poll to expire in 2 days...not 3 like the play in round.

I feel like the basket is ten feet wide. In the zone here. Correctly intuited the two pairings that would generate competitive voting. I'm nearly all chalk here, but had the right intuition about this.

I love that this is happening. So excited.

Now... PRG4LYFE LETS DO THIS PEOPLE

Having an insanely hard time picking between The Promise and Lullaby.

Are we leaving the "Greatest" open to interpretation again? Or am I supposed to be voting for which was the bigger/greater one hit wonder, as opposed to say, which OHW I enjoy more?

Off to the side of the Walking in Memphis video is Heart singing Stairway to Heaven. That is incredible. They did a great job.

The below was the toughest for me. I really like both but gave the nod to Romeo's Tune because its older and therefore more of a classic to me.
96. Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis (1991)
161. Steve Forbert - Romeo's Tune (1979)

This one is closed...and we had no "upsets" in round 1...

Not surprisingly When in Rome vs Shawn Mullins was the closest match up, but I think Steve Forbert got a really bad draw, I think he'd have been extremely competitive in almost any other pairing, but I could be wrong with that guess.

I'm really enjoying this elimination bracket, but I have to say, I've been really surprise by some of the results. Not always who wins, but more about how the voting broke down. I figured I'd take a moment to look a little deeper at each pairing, which could generate discussion or it may just serve as a way to waste a little more time...

a-ha vs Frankie Ford - There was very little surprise here. In fact if there was a surprise I'd say it was that Ford got 4 votes. I'm going to assume (though I could be way off on this) that those 4 votes were actually people voting against "Take on Me", I don't expect there are 4 people on the board that love "Sea Cruise", 1 or 2 maybe, but 4...doubtful.

The Silhouettes vs Human Beinz - Here I was a bit surprised Human Beinz didn't get more votes. The No No No No...etc. song is rather memorable so I expected it would be closer...how much closer I don't know, but I did think these would be closer.

Gary Glitter vs Primitive Radio Gods - This one played out about like I expected. Phonebooth, as I recall, got some nice discussion on the original thread, so I wasn't sure if an upset was a possibility, but ultimately it came up short.

When in Rome vs Shawn Mullins - really tight early before Rome pulled away late. Tough first round match up for Mullins. There are a bunch of pairings in this entire first round where I'm sure Mullins wins, but he's out early here.

4 Non Blondes vs Hocus Pocus - wasn't sure if the rockier Focus was going to post a challenge for the folkier Blondes, but Focus barely moved the needle...

Bobby Day vs The New Vaudeville Band - Most votes in the group for Bobby Day, but guessing some of that is because Vaudeville was disliked by many. If I'm wrong and Rockin' Robin is more popular that I expected the next round will be very interesting

The New Radicals vs Billy Swan - only item I think might be worth mentioning is that Radicals received a pretty low vote total for a song seeded this high...which may be a bad omen for the next round.

Marc Cohn vs Steve Forbert - Mentioned this one previously, but Forbert deserved better. Cohn is going to be tough in this bracket.

New Radicals vs. Marc Cohn is going to be brutal for me.
