RIP Gencon 2020
Welp They finally pulled the trigger and cancelled Gencon
That being the largest gaming convention in the world (brings like 60K people to Indianapolis in a series of crammed spaces touch the same game pieces as each other. Gen Con LLC | Updates on Gen Con and COVID-19 There is the official notice. Anyone that had their badge can get a refund but they also let you just roll it over to the next year (in order to save the staff basically) It says they are planning an online event for it. |

Yeah pretty much figured that was the route they were going to have to take.

Our really good St Louis con, Geekway to the West, canceled earlier this month.
I was bummed.

Yeah but a gaming con is basically a complete pandemic on its own
It would really double the cases in the country i think. At least Gencon would. 60K from all over the country and world of gamers that don't shower sitting at tables facing each other and touching the same game pieces |

I couldn't imagine going to Dragoncon right now. There are times when you can't move in the public areas it is so packed.

Very bummed about this, but it was the only obvious choice. As CF’s picture above shows very well social distancing is impossible there, especially in the dealer’s hall. Throw in gaming around a table and, on average, the not most physically robust group of attendees and it would never work.
One of the few GenCons I’ve missed in the last 24 years. I’ll definitely miss it.

There was never a doubt here. It's super packed there, and Gencon is legendary for having a large contingent of people who have questionable-to-zero hygiene skills.
