Week 12 sucked. Both UT and Southern Miss lost for the first time. Maybe there's still time for USM to make up some ground and get into a decent bowl game...

#2 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (9-0/4-0) @ #50 Boston College Golden Eagles (4-6/2-3)
We get back into conference action, against not a pushover, but a team we should be able to control handedly. This game is a tuneup for our game against Miami, but we can not over look them, or we'll be the next undefeated team to bite the dust. This game will have regional coverage. Post Game Coach's Thoughts
We didn't play perticularly well all day long, but we did get key turovers including 14 points off of an interception and a fumbled kickoff. The 1st 2 picks we had were the result of good pressure on the QB and the ball being underthrown. The pick we threw was just some bad timing, trying to force the ball upfield near the end of the half. Offense: We had a good running game. We didn't really do a lot with the passing game, but we didn't really have to do much with it most of the game. The OLine created some nice holes at times and gave us time to throw the ball as well. Hopefully they can do more of the same next week. We did a good job of protecting the ball today as well. Defense: We played a really balanced defensive game this week, controlling the run game and neutralizing the passing attack. We forced turnovers when we needed to. Not too much more to say about a really solid all around effort. Special Teams: We need to get better at trying to get some yardage instead of trying to cut back and break a big return on punts. We need to get better at controlling our momentum on punt coverage as well, as we has one kick catch interference call go against us when Dodd was blocked into the return man. We were able to pin them down on the 4 on one punt, and almost forced the safety, if not for a broken tackle by their FB Gross. John Galt will get the punt return nod against Miami. #1 Miami Hurricanes (11-0/5-0) @ #2 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (10-0/5-0)
National title hopes are on the line. The winner of this game is almost assured of a trip to Tempe to play in the Fiesta Bowl, the winner may have to settle for a trip to the Gator Bowl. This game will be the National Game of the Week. The announcers were split on who would win. Herbstreit though Miami would win through the air, while Corso thought Miami wouldn't be able to stop our running attack. Key Players Miami: QB Marc Guillon, FB Scottie Wilson, LOLB Orlando Parrish Rutgers: CB Pete Kramer, HB Markis Facyson, CB Tavaris Gant Injuries Miami: C Mark Clement - Broken Wrist - Season ending HB Mack McBride - Forearm Fracture - season ending WR Darnell Jenkins - Broken Ribs - 1 week Rutgers: QB Tommie Herron - Upper Arm Fracture - 8 weeks In the 1st quarter, Markis Facyson, broke Justise Hairston's school record for rushing yards. In the 2nd quarter, CB Adrian Gary suffered a mild concussion. He will be sidelined 2 weeks. Halftime Score: Miami 7, Rutgers 7 Final Score: Miami 24, Rutgers 21 This was the 8th greatest game of all time with a greatness score of 281! Tough luck, GM.
Do you still have a shot at a BCS bowl or did you lose too late in the season?

After the loss I'm 4th in the Bowl Rankings after the loss, so as long as I beat Syracuse, I should be able to get a trip to either the Sugar or Orange Bowl. Texas is getting screwed by the quality wins tho. |

Post Game Coach's Thoughts
Another tough loss. After we cut it to 17-14, I thought we really could pull it out, since we were running the ball so effecitvely, but then wham, they came right back with the deep ball to give them the 10 point lead again. Our failure to score on the next possession, and the fact that we didn't get them to go 3 and out immediately was really dissapointing. Offense: We ran the ball really well all day, but we had problems with out passing attack early, and the receivers had a tough time holding onto the ball. Bad reads and good pressure by the Miami defense led to 3 picks and those pickes were real momentum killers. We were 4-4 on 4th down conversions, but only 1-12 on 3rd down conversions. We also held the ball for 25:54 compared to 14:06 for the Canes. Defense: Our pass defense was awful today, and our run D was not where it needed to be. The loss of Adrian Gary was exploited and even when we double teamed their receivers , they still were able to find the open guys. Our lone takeaway did prenvent a Miami score as the pick came on 1st and goal from the 5. Special Teams: The return game never got going, and we didn;t do a good job of kick coverage, but it wasn't too bad either. |

#5 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (10-1/5-1) @ #46 Syracuse Orangemen (6-5/2-4)
We need to rebound from last week's tough loss, and come back with a tough win. Knocking Syracuse out of a bowl, would be nice, but we need to focus on the task at hand. Post game Coach's Thoughts
We came back from our tough loss against Miami loss by running roughshod over the Orangemen. We did a good job of getting the backups in who did a really nice job all around. We gave up one big pass, but I won't harp on it as we did a nice job in general today. Offense: We did what we do best and stuck with the running attack. We did work the TEs into the offense alot more today and were able to spread the ball around really well in a final tuneup before our bowl game. The OLine blocked well, and we didn't drop any passes. We did throw 2 bad passes that were intercepted. Defense: Our pass coverage was a little sloppy, but we limited the Orangemen's offense mostly. We did a good job of keeping them from only scoring 2 FGs on 2 of their possessions. Special Teams: The lone punt of the game was a long one which went out of bounds at the 1 yard line, and almost led to a safety. We had several solid returns today, and our kickoffs were booming. The realism in this game is amazing in regards to the BCS isn't it? Anyway, good luck against NC State.

FedEx Orange Bowl
#3 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (11-1) vs #6 North Carolina State Wolfpack (11-2) We're at the end of another long season, this time culminating with a trip to the Orange Bowl. I'm dissapointed that we couldn't make a return trip to Tempe for the Fiesta Bowl, but we'll have to do our best with what is put in front of us. We also need to stay focuses and not worry about what could have been, but about what is. Herbstreit picked us to win based on the strength of our offense, while Corso said "not so fast, my friend". Postgame Coach's Thoughts
We put together a really quality effort from start to finish. We ran the ball down the Wolfpack's throats and were able to eat up plenty of the game clock. We won the time of possession battle 13:11 to 6:49 in the the 1st half, and 29:28 to 10:32 for the game. Offense: We didn't have a ton of big plays but we didn't need to. We did alot of off tackle running and short crossing routes, and were able to work the game clock while moving the ball down the field. Our OLine did a great job of pass protection, and our receivers did a good job of picking up yardage after the catch. No turnovers all game put us in a position to not have to play a great defensive game. Defense: We didn't play great, but we only gave up one big play, the 82 yard TD pass, and we did a nice job of getting an interception in the endzone near the end of the game to ice things. We also forced a fumble in the 3rd quarter right after a failed 4th down conversion to get the game back in control. We didn't have great pass coverage, but we played good zone coverage, and kept them from converting on 3rd down all game long. Special Teams: We didn't have to do alot special teams wise. We missed a FG, because I got flustered trying to beat the play clock out in the 1st quarter and I didn't want to burn a timeout. We got lucky on one punt return, as it was surely a touchback and we were able to get a kick catch interference call out of it which gave us the ball at the 35 instead of the 20.
