What does it take to win a Slick Fielder Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

CL's Best Rookie Proclaimed

Things are coming up roses for Jim Davis of the Plantana Pirates. This blossoming star finished his first year in the Continental League by taking the 2113 Kien-lung Teng Award.

The 25-year-old shortstop fashioned a .225 batting average with a .307 on-base percentage, solid numbers to go with his 18 home runs, 70 RBIs and 101 runs scored.


Ann Arbor Third Baseman Named RL's Best Rookie

The Republic League has presented its Kien-lung Teng Award for 2113 and the honor went to Pedro Ruíz, the fine Ann Arbor third baseman.

The 24-year-old Wolverines newcomer took the trophy by hitting .310 in 150 games and finished with 181 hits, 8 home runs, 57 RBIs and 76 runs scored.

2113 CL Mauro Morales Award Announced

With speculation about his retirement gaining steam last offseason, Terriers ace Carlos Morales had something to prove. He proved it in award-winning style as he accepted the Continental League Mauro Morales Award today.

The veteran Manchester hurler posted a record of 17 wins and 2 losses this year with a 2.99 ERA. In 27 starts he struck out 193 and walked 31 in 180.2 innings.


Republic League #1 Pitcher Named

The Cleveland Naps have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Jimmy Dukes, this year's Republic League Mauro Morales Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.

Dukes compiled a 16-8 record in 39 starts, tallied 223 strikeouts in 232.2 innings and recorded a 2.17 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .219 batting average against him.

CL's Best Hitter for 2113 Named

Júlio López has been around FOOL-X enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 2113 season, he's taking home the Bartolo Liriano Award in the Continental League.

The Manchester left fielder put up a batting average of .378 with 64 doubles, 8 triples, 21 home runs and 110 RBIs.

One of the Republic League's most prestigious honors is the Bartolo Liriano Award. When the votes were counted, the 2113 recipient was the talented right fielder of the Portland Axemen, Jaime García.

He starred this season with a .335 batting average, 217 hits, 48 home runs, 156 RBIs, .394 OBP and 115 runs scored.
