We've Struck Silver: A Pitcher's Life (OOTP2007)

Danny Silver's life began in the Queens back on October 10, 1986. Early in the 90's be dicovered the game of baseball and began playing little league, as many boys have before him.

It was early in his little league career when he began to stand out above many of the others on his team. He began pitching and seemed to baffle hitters with a very lively arm. During his final two seasons in little league he did not lose a game.

Before long he was dominating in high school and became a highly recruited, and scouted, prospect. In his senior year of high school he threw 4 no hitters with one being a perfect game.

HE played in college for three seasons, after getting a full scholarship, before he decided to make the next step. That is when he entered the Major League draft against the wishes of his family who wanted to see him earn his degree. Like many young men in their early 20's he felt that he knew better so into the draft he went.

That is what brings us to the 2007 entry draft...

With the 2nd pick in the 2007 entry draft the San Diego Padres select "Pitcher Danny Silver". He can barely contain his joy as he know that this is his time. Time to prove himself and try to make a career out of his childhood love: baseball.

Danny would sign very quickly and get assigned to Lake Elsinore, San Diego's single A team. Like a whirlwind he finds himself on a plane and joining the team. Before he can blink it's time for his career to begin...

June 1

A quick turn-around lands Danny in Lake Elsinore startig in his first game against the Inland Empire Yaks. Lake Elsinore has been floundering near last place in the South Division of the California league and are hoping for any kind of spark.

Danny's pro career did not start out well as he gets hit hard in his first inning of work and allows 4 runs, 3 are earned. The manager leaves him in to see if he can work through the problems and he goes on to pitch 6 innings overall and allows just one more run though he would pick up the loss (5-1).

He showed promise by coming back from his terrible start and he ended up with 6.0 innings of work, 7 hits allowed, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, walked 5 and struck out 3. After his first start he is now 0-1 with an ERA of 6.00.

June 5

With the manager chosing to go with a 4 man rotation Danny's turn come up quick as the team travels to San Jose. Danny would rebound in great fashion as he would give the team 6 strong innings of work and allow just 3 hits and 1 run. He leaves the game up 5-1 and in position for his first professional win.

The team would extend the lead to 6-1 but all would fall apart in the bottom of the 8th when San Jose would score 5 runs to tie the game giving Danny a no decision. San Jose would then score the winning run in the bottom of the 9th on a one out single with two men on (both had been walked) as Lake Elsinore's relievers would again be at the forefront of an agonizing loss.

Danny's numbers would be: 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 4 walks and 6 strike outs. He remains 0-1 and his ERA drop to 3.75.

June 9

Another start off 3 days rest for Danny as the team travels to Modesto. Danny would make his longest start so far as he would pitch into the 8th inning. After 7 scoreless innings he would get one out in the 8th but a walk and an error would force him out of the game with 2 men aboard and leading 3-0.

A single allowed by the reliever would score both runs and bring Modesto to within 1 run at 3-2 but they would strand that runner on base. The ninth would see Modesto load the bases on walks with 2 outs but a pop up would end the game and give Danny his first win (3-2).

In the win: 7.1 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 5 strike outs. He earns his first professional victory and is now 1-1 and his ERA has dropped to 2.79. Things may be looking up.

June 14

Next the team travels to play at the Inland Empire Yaks. Danny would throw a very good game as he would keep the Yaks scoreless for 8 innings. Lake Elsinore would score 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 2-0 lead and the game would be turned over to the closer.

This time the closer would finish the game in short order retiring the side 1-2-3 for a 2-0 win for Lake Elsinore. Danny's manager could not say enough good things about him after the game and thinks that he will be the real deal.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 6 strike outs. His record improves to 2-1 and his ERA drops to 1.98.

June 18

The team returns home to host Rancho Cucamonga in Danny's first return to pitch in front of the home fans since his very first start. The team would give him a 5 run 3rd inning as a home coming present as he would get in a little trouble and not make it through 6 but would only allow 2 runs in that time.

Lake Elsinore would go on to win 6-2 and give Danny his 3rd win of the season. In the win: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and he would allow a homerun for the first time. He is now 3-1 with an ERA of 2.20.

June 22

Back on the road and back up against the Inland Empire Yaks. Danny would pitch into the 8th and leave with the team trailing 2-1. Lake Elsinore would tie the game in the 9th only to see the Yaks win it in the bottom of the 9th as Danny would get a no decision in the 3-2 loss.

His numbers: 7.1 innings, 9 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 3-1 and is ERA is now 2.25.

June 28

Back hom and again for Rancho Cocamonga. Danny would not dissapoint the home fans as he would pitch his first complete game and earn his first shutout in a 1-0 pitchers duel.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. He is now 4-1 with an ERA of 1.84.

Great News

The day after his shutout he would get called into the office and told that he is now going to be called up to the AA team in San Antonio.

His single A numbers: 4-1, 7 G, 7 GS, 49.0 IP, 40 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 1HR, 18 BB, 33 K, .219 OAvg

July 1

Danny gets his first start in AA as San Antonio plays host to Frisco. Not only is it a bump in level but San Antonio currently leads the division by 3 games so Danny gets a little playoff chase experience.

He does not get a friendly welcome as he pitches just a couple batters into the 6th inning and gets tagged for the loss in an 8-6 final. He had a little trouble getting the ball over and wasn;t as aggressive as his last few starts for Lake Elsinore.

In the loss: 5.0 innings, 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 5.40 in AA.

July 5

A quick down time leads to Danny returning to the mound just 4 days later as the team travels to Midland. He would face off against Midland ace Raul Sandoval, though Midland is struggling as a team.

Danny would get in trouble a bit and leave in the 6th with his team trailing 3-2. San Antonio would go on to score 2 in the top of the 9th and win the game 4-3.

In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts while commiting his first error as he would make a bad throw on a sacrifice bunt in the 6th that would lead to another run. He remains 0-1 and his ERA has dipped a bit to 4.35.

July 8

As the team has lost a starter to injury and another to promotion they would ask Danny to go again on just a couple days rest. It would actually be in the last game of a 4 game series against Midland meaning he would start twice against the same team it the same series.

While on a guarded pitch count he would go just over 5 innings and get a no decision on a game that would end up as a 3-1 San Antonio victory in 13 innings. Danny would pitch well as he would leave without allowing a run.

In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He is still 0-1 but his ERA is now 2.87.

July 11

The insane schedule continues as Danny takes the mound at home against Arkansas. The overuse would see him tire in the 6th and leave the game trailing 4-1.

After each team scored another run to make it 5-2 San Antonio would bat around in the 8th and score 6 runs to take an 8-5 lead. Arkansas would tie the game with a 3 run homerun in the top of the 9th to make it 8-8. After a single, sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk pinch hitter Oliver Brito would single in the winning run for a 9-8 final.

In the no decision: 5.0 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He remains 0-1 but his ERA is now 3.48.

Some fans are begining to question the manager's overuse of Danny and some of the other starters.

July 14

Again on short rest Danny takes the hill. This time against Springfield. Danny would pitch a very good game but could not complete it as he has been throwing too much. San Antonio would win easily 7-1 and Danny would get his first win in AA.

In the win: 6.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He threw just 77 pitches in the 6 innings. He is now 1-1 with an ERA of 3.04.

July 18

In the most rest that Danny has been allowed recently he will pitch at Frisco. He would have his longest outing of the year in terms of innings but end up with a no decision as Frisco would go on to beat San Antonio 4-3 in 10 innings.

In the no decision: 8/0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 with an ERA of 3.12.

July 21

Back to what looks like a sure fire way to blowing out his arm and ending his career early he is back on the mound. He would pitch just in to the 6th inning but would leave with a little stiffness in his arm and th egame tied at 1. San Antonio would go on to win the game 6-3 and inrease their lead to 4.5 games.

In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 but his ERA has dropped to 2.70.

He would see the doctor after the game and be given a shot that made his arm feel much better. The team doctor said that there is nothign wrong with his arm.

July 24

Not feeling any more pain in his arm and a couple shots from the doctor later Danny is back on the mound. Danny would pitch well and take a no hitter into the 6th before giving up a 1 out single. After the 6th his arm felt sore so he was taken out of the game leading 1-0.

The bullpen would lose the lead but San Antonio would then go on to score 5 more runs to win the game 6-1 but giving Danny a no decision.

In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. HE remains 1-1 but his ERA is now 2.35.

Another trip to the doctor would lead to another shot and Danny is told to rest his arm for a day and he'll be fine.

July 27

They host Midland and Danny takes the start again. While believing that he should speak up he just doesn't want to let the team down. Danny would last just 4 innings and leave the game trailing 2-1.

Midland would go on to win 5-2 as Danny would get his 2nd loss. He isn't feeling pain in his arm but just didn't have anything on his pitches by the time he finished the 4th.

In the loss: 4.0 innigns, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. He is now 1-2 with an ERA of 2.52.

After the game rumors would begin to surface that some of the pitching staff complained about being over-used but the manager pointed to the standings and said that he is managing this team to first place and it's because of his "expert" use of his pitching staff. He would add that he knows when they are at risk and won't let anything happen to them.

July 30

Danny would start against Midland again and would pitch well enough to make it into the 7th before coming out of the game with a 4-1 lead. They would go on to win 5-1 as Danny would get his 2nd win.

In the win: 6.2 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He would give up a homerun for the first time in AA. He is now 2-2 with an ERA of 2.38 and an arm that feels like rubber.

August 2

With the team having lost another pitcher due to injury and one moe called up Danny's value to the rotation has really increased. This, however, does not look to helping to add to his down time as he continues the wuick turn around between starts with Corpus Christi coming to town.

He would pitch well but only last into the 6th inning with weariness in his arm causing him control problems late. The game would be tied at 1 when he would leave and each team would score a pair in the 8th. The game would go into the 10th tied at 3.

In the bottom of the 10th, catcher Kurt Page would double into the gap in right with a runner on base and drive in the winning run for a 4-3 San Antonio victory. The win put them back up by 4 games.

In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 2-2 but his ERA has dipped to 2.32.

August 6

After a rare 3 day rest period Danny would start at home against Wichita, a team in need of a victory as they are easily in the middle of the pack this season.

San Antonio would score 5 in the first 4 innings and give Danny a large enough cushion as they went on to an 8-3 victory. Danny would not have one of his best outings but would do enough to get the win.

In the win: 6.2 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA 0f 2.49.

August 10

Another start off three days rest as San Antonio travels to Tulsa. Oddly Danny would not respond well to the "extra" day off. HE would last 6 inings and leave trailing 4-0 on the way to a 10-4 loss.

In the loss: 6.0 innings, 10 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 1 strikeout. He is now 3-3 with an ERA of 2.65.

The wear and tear of a long season looks to be catching up with him (and his manager's insane rotation).

August 13

On the hill in Wichita after just 2 days rest. Danny would pitch into the 6th and leave with a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would shut the door as they would win a close one by that 3-2 final.

In the win: 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He improves his record to 4-3 with an ERA of 2.69.

Following the game the manager told him that he is really counting on Danny holding it together the rest of the season with the playoffs on the line and the team desperately short on quality starters. Translation: don't expect many off days and call a good surgeon to repair that arm after the season.

August 16

Danny would start at home against Tulsa. He would last only 5 innings and leave trailing 2-1 but San Antonio would tie the game in the 6th. The game would remain tied until the top of the 9th when overused pitcher Fernando Alverado would get smoked to 4 runs as San Antonio would fall by a 6-2 score.

This would be the teams's 3rd consecutive loss and their lead is now down to 2.5 games. The next day Alveraro would be placed on the DL with shoulder trouble, not a surprise to fans of the team as he would not only be starting with regularity but also be carrying a good load of the relief duties. At one point recently he had pitched in 5 games in a 6 day period including a start in the middle of that time.

In the no decision: 5.0 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Danny remains 4-3 and his ERA is now 2.74.

August 19

Danny would get a bit of a scare in this game as his arm would stiffen in the 5th and he would leave the game trailing 1-0. The team would go on to lose 3-1 as Danny would get the loss.

In the loss: 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He drops to 4-4 with an ERA of 2.60.

He would get another shot from the team physician and be listed as day to day with shoulder pain.

August 23

Apparently day to day means 3 days off instead of 2. Danny would take the mound at Midland with the team on a major slide and only a game in front. Danny would step up for the team big time with a gem of a performance.

He would go 8 innings and the team would get just enough offense as he turned the game over to the closer with a 4-1 lead. Tomas Hernandez would pitch a quick 9th inning for the save. Tomas would soon find homself in the rotation next to Danny.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 5-4 with a 2.48 ERA.

August 26

San Antonio would host Frisco as Danny would again start with a sore shoulder. He would pitch just into the 6th inning and leave trailing 3-1.

Frisco would take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th. San Antonio would stun the Fricso bench with a 4 run rally with 2 outs in the 9th to send the game to extra innings, getting Danny off the hook. In the top of the 12th Frisco would get back to back solo homeruns and go on to win 8-6 in 12.

In the no decision: 5.2 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 5-4 and his ERA is now 2.61.

August 29

With a tired pitching staff Danny would get thrown to the wolves today as the team travels to Corpus Christi. He would end up throwing a complete game but one bad innign where he gave up 4 runs would be his downfall in a 4-2 loss.

In the loss: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 7 walks (season high) and 2 strikeouts. He is now 5-5 with an ERA of 2.75.

Two days later the team would clinch the division and a playoff birth.

September 4

Hosting Frisco in game one of the playoffs and Danny would have the honor of starting. He would pitch an okay game and pitch into the 8th but a couple of key errors would lead to him leaving trailing 5-2 en route to a 10-3 blow out.

In the loss: 7.1 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 4.91 in the post season.

San Antonio would go on to lose the next two game 13-3 and 6-2 and be eliminated.

Danny's AA statistics: 5-5, 2.75 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 111.1 innings, 92 hits, 39 runs, 34 earned, 38 walks, 63 strikeouts, 2 homeruns allowed and opponents hit .223.

This was a season of learning for Danny. He needs to learn how to handle the pressure of the post season and how to handle a manager that wants to overuse him.

During the offseason it seems that Padres management took note of the mismanagement of their AA club in San Antonio. The upcoming new season will be ushered in by a new manager. One who has already spoken to Danny and promises that he will not be over-used and put at risk as was done to him last season.

April 10

Opening day as San Antonio travels to Corpus Christi. Danny opens the season off sith a solid performance that took him into the 8th inning and he would leave with the game tied at 2.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the 10th when reliever Lance Marsh would give up singles to the first two batters of the inning. With no outs and runners at the corners he would hang a curve ball that has last been seen dissapearing into the night sky to give Corpus Christi the 5-2 win.

In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA.

April 16

After an extra day of rest due to a scheduling oddity Danny would start at home against Midland. Midland would not be kind as he would have his shortest outing of his brief pro career lasting just 1 and a third innings. The offensive barrage would continue on the way to a 15-7 loss.

In the loss: 1.1 innings, 6 hits, 8 runs, 8 earned, 2 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 homerun allowed. He is 0-1 with a ballooning ERA of 10.00.

April 21

Being a pro is all about how you respond to adversity. Danny would rebound well from his last dissapointing start as the offense would give him 2 runs early and that would be more than enough in a 2-1 win.

In the victory: 7.0 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is now 1-1 with an ERA of 6.19.

April 26

Danny would end up on the short end of a picther's duel today as the team travels to Midland. Though he would give up just 1 unearned run the team would fall 1-0.

In the loss: 7.2 innings, 1 run, 0 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is 1-2 with an ERA of 4.24.

I'm enjoying this so far EagleFan... hope you keep it going. I'm curious to see how far he gets in his second season.

What was the deal with the short rest, btw? I know in 6.5 you can set the minor league rotation... was/is there a problem in 2007?

Thanks, about to do at least one more month.

For the rest thing, I never knew it was an issue. It seems to have cleared up so far though so I am hoping it was just a minor league thing with lack of pitching (that team did have some serious trouble with their pitchers, not that starting them every 3 days was helping).

May 1

San Antonio returns home to start the second month of the season looking for a spark as they are floundering around .500 and not playing with any consistency. The host Arkansas, another team having early trouble.

The game is billed as a showdown between young aces as 21 year old Antonio Pachelo takes the mound for Arkansas. The game lives up to it's hype as it is scoreless into the 6th inning when a single and sacrifice bunt give San Antonio a runner at 2nd with one out and career minor league first baseman Frederic Belanger singles home the first run of the game. That would also be the only run of the game as Danny would throw 8 scoreless innings in the 1-0 victory.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He improves to 2-2 with an ERA of 3.16.

May 6

As the home stand continues Danny starts against Springfield looking to continue the fine job he has done his last few starts. His team would make it easy for him with 8 early runs.

Things would go well until the 7th inning when Danny would walk the first two batters of the inning. After striking out the next hitter it would lead to runners at 1st and 3rd with one out. A rocket up the middle would glace off his glove as he attempts to make what would have been a great play and results in a hit and run scored. That would just be the first problem as Danny would remain on the ground in pain. He would come out of the game with a very sore back. Doctors would later shut him down for an estimated 1-2 weeks. After surviving picthing every 3 days last season without an injury that kept him out a hard shot up the middle does him in. San Antonio would go on to win 8-1.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA of 2.87.

May 18

After being out for 12 days Danny returns to the mound. Frisco comes to town for his return. He would begin to struggle in the 2nd allowing a walk and two hits and giving up the first run of the game. He managed to put that behind him and shut the door for the next 6 innings and San Antonio would score 2 runs for the 2-1 lead which would be the final score.

The win would make him 4-1 in his last 5 starts, he would not allow more than 1 run in any of those starts and only 3 runs total in those starts.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is 4-2 with an ERA of 2.56.

May 23

Another home start for Danny, this time against Corpus Christi. Danny would not continue his streak as Corpus Christi would continue their hot hitting (they have scored 35 runs in the last 4 games) by putting up 4 runs in the 2nd. Danny would settle a little but they would go on to lose 6-3.

In the loss: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 4-3 with an ERA of 3.12.

May 28

On the road this time as they travel to Tulsa. Again the 2nd inning would strike as he would give up 2 early runs. He would not be dshapr for the rest of the game but would continue to pitch out of the jams he found himself in as he lasts into the 7th and leave with the team up 4-2 which would go on to be the final score.

In the win: 6.2 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 5-3 with an ERA of 3.07.

June 1

Another matchup with Wichita but this time on the road. A first inning solo shot by DH Herb Smiley would give San Antonio a 1-0 lead and Danny would hold serve through 6 with the game still 1-0.

In the top of the 7th San Antonio would score two more for a 3-0 lead and that would be more than enough. Though Danny would allow a run in teh bottom of the 7th to make it 3-1 he would give up nothing else and leave after 8 with the 3-1 lead and the closer would home Wichita down for the win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is now 7-3 with an ERA of 2.55.

June 11

At home with Frisco coming to town. Danny would not have one of his better game but he would still last 8 innings and leave with the game tied at 4.

The game would go to the 10th inning tied at 4. After a scoreless top of the 10th, San Antonio would get a bserunner with one out and shortsop Juan Pina would double home the winning run.

In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He remains 7-3 but his ERA climbs slightly to 2.74.

June 16

The team travels to Corpus Christi and they do not treat Danny well. He would go just 6 innings and give up 4 runs on the way to a 7-2 loss.

In the loss: 6.0 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is not 7-4 with a 2.97 ERA.

June 21

At Midland for the last game of the road trip prior to the league's all star game. Danny would struggle with his control but still last 7 innings and leave with a 3-2 lead. A blown save in the 8th would tie the game but San Antonio would score 3 in the top of the 9th for the 6-3 win.

Though Danny lacked control he would still manage to keep Corpus Christi from getting any really good wood on the ball and his 11-3 ground out to fly out ratio would show that.

In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. He remains 7-4 and his ERA dips slightly to 2.94.

After the game the manager would call him over to talk. Danny was hopeful to hear the words that he would be promoted but instead would be told that he was named to the all-star team. The game would be played 2 days later and Danny would not see any action as he was not yet rested but he would enjoy the recognition.

June 26

At home against Springfield and Danny threw well, but not great, as he lasted into the 7th and left trailing 2-0. San Antonio's offense would be shut down as Springfield would go on to a 5-0 win.

In the loss: 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He drops to 7-5 and his ERA is now 2.93.

He's certainly pitching well enough to get a look by the big club, but if they're smart, no way they want to rush him. If he's lucky, he'll get a start in September up there maybe, as a confidence booster.

July 1

Danny would start at home against Arkansas but would struggle through the game. He would last into the 7ths but leave trailing 4-2. They would go on to lose 7-3.

In the loss: 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He is now 7-6 and has an ERA of 3.09.

July 6

San Antonio travels to play at Frisco. The trip would not be a good one for Danny as he gets hit for 5 runs in teh first two innings and he would last just 4 innings in a 7-2 loss. This will be his 4th consecutive loss.

In the loss: 4.0 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. His record is now even at 7-7 and his ERA has rusen to 3.39.

July 10

The team returns home looking to snap it's losing streak (7 games) and Danny hopes to break his. Though not pitching well in terms of results, he pitched efficiently enough to last into the 9th inning. He would enter the 9th leading 7-2 and leave with one out and two men on. Those men would score as the final would be 7-4.

In the win: 8.1 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 8-7 with an ERA of 3.45.

July 13

In a throwback to last season's short roatations Danny would take the hill with just 2 days of rest as the team is trying anything to put together a string of victories. They are looking to take 3 out of 4 against Midland.

Danny would pitch well but would tire and be taken out in the 7th with the team up 4-1. They would go on to win 5-1 and Danny would get his 9th win of the season.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-7 with a 3.35 ERA.

Portland Calling

After the win Danny would get a call from the manager. He is told that he will be called up to AAA to play for Portland. The news is music to his ears as he is now just one step away from the big show.

His AA numbers for the season: 9-7, 3.35 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 126.1 innings, 113 hits, 49 runs, 47 earned, 3 homeruns allowed, 48 walks, 88 strikeouts and opponents hit .236.

July 17

Danny starts his AAA career on the road against Sacramento. In the firs ttwo innings he would allow 2 runners each inning but pitch out of trouble. In the third inning he would allow two more runners but this time the next batter would launch a ball deep into the stand for a 3 run homerun and a 3-0 lead.

He would pitch into the 6yth where he would allow another run to make it 4-1. Sacramento would go on to win 4-2 as Danny would not have a stellar debut.

In the loss: 5.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 5 walks, 4 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 6.35 after his debut.

July 22

Danny's home debut against Tacoma. Danny turned it around and went 7 strong innings as he left the game with a 5-0 lead. Portland went on to win 7-2 and increase their already large lead in the division. Another wonderful thing about being promoted has been going from a team struggling to a team that is being dominant and a leading contender for post season play in the league.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 2.84. More starts like this could be just what the doctor ordered.

July 27

Portland heads to Tucson for Danny's next start. Danny would be involved in a pitcher's and leave afte 8 with a 1-0 lead. Their closer would blow a save for just the second time this season int he 9th and the game would be tied at 1 after 9.

21 year old cenerfielder Daniel Graham would double home the go ahead run in the 11th and the team would hold on for the 2-1 win.

In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 but his ERA has dropped to 1.74. He has not allowed a run in his last two starts for a total of 15 innings.

August 1

Danny would continue his string of starting on the first day of a month, this time at home hosting Colorado Springs. Danny would throw another fine perfomance as he goes 8 and leaves with a 4-1 lead. The team would hold and win the game 4-1.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He is now 2-1 with an ERA of 1.26. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts.

August 6

Portland travels to Salt Lake City and Danny hits a slight bump in the road. Danny would not look good and leave in the 6th leading 8-6 but Salt Lake City would score 2 more runs to tie the game 8-8. Portland would, however, score twice more for a 10-8 win.

In the no decision: 5.2 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 6 earned, 6 walkd and 4 strikeouts. He is 2-1 with a 2.62 ERA.

August 11

Home against Las Vegas and Danny returns to form. He leaves with 1 out in the 8th and 2 men on but with a 3-0 lead. A 1 pitch double play ends that inning and they hold in the 9th for the 3-0 win. For the 4th time in his last 5 starts he has not allowed an earned run, 3 of them without allowing any runs.

In the win: 7.1 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA. The Padres are starting to take notice,as are their fans.

August 16

The team travels to Tacoma and they brought their bats with them as they score early and often. Danny goes 7 innings and records his career high with 10 strikeouts. He leave the game up 8-0 on the way to an 11-2 win.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 10 strikeouts. He is now 4-1 with an ERA of 1.85. Now 0 earned runs in 5 of his last 6 starts.

August 20

At home against Fresno and Danny would pitch an okay outing but that would not be the news of the day. Portland's offense would shine as they put 11 on the board in the 1st inning on the way to a HUGE 22-3 win.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 5-1 with an ERA of 1.94.

August 24

Danny would go on 3 days rest as they play at Colorado Springs. He would do well enough to leave with a 5-4 lead and they go on to a 9-4 win.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is now 6-1 with an ERA of 2.30.

August 29

With the team having clinched the playoffs they now host Salt Lake City as they can play out the remainder of the season to prepare for the playoffs. Danny would pitch just 2 innigns and leave after 2 innings with a noticable limp. The team would go on to win 8-5.

In the no decision: 2.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is 6-1 with an ERA of 2.23.

Doctors would diagnose his as having a damaged meniscus and project him as being out 1-2 weeks.

Pitcher of the Month

In his first full month of pitching in AAA ball Danny would get named the pitcher of the month for August in the American Conference. He was 5-0 with a 2.45 ERA in the month.

September 9

Danny returns to the rotation as the team travels to Tucson. Danny would pitch well enough to get the win as he would leave in the 8th with a 3-2 lead and the team would go on to win 5-2.

In the win: 7.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 7-1 with an ERA of 2.24.

September 14

Danny's final regular season start will be at Fresno. This will not be th eway Danny wants the end his AAA regular season, however, ad he only makes it into the 6th and leaves trailiing 6-3 which becomes the final score.

In the loss: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is 7-2 with an ERA of 2.67.

Post Season Begins

Portland faces Las Vegas in the first round of the playoffs (a best of 5 series). They win the first two games easily and send Danny to the moung in the 3rd game to try to move on.

September 19

Danny takes the mound at Las Vegas looking to wrap up the series. Portland would get a run in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead and that would be all that Danny needed as he threw one of the best games of his career. He would go the distance in a 4-0 shutout victory to wrap up the series.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. His ground out to fly out ratio was 13-6 and he had a near 2:1 strike to ball ratio.

Memphis Series

Luck may be running out for Portland, or they just ran into a hotter team. Memphis takes the first two games of the series (a best of seven series) at Portland to take a 2-0 lead as they head back to Memphis. Danny is up for game three.

September 24

Danny would go just 6 innings and pitch okay. Portland would put two on the board to tie the game in the top of the 7th to get him off the hook. The game would remain tied until the Portland closer would walk home the winning run for Memphis in a 3-2 final as they now trail 3-0 in the series.

In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 1-0 in the playoffs and his ERA is 0.60.

Hopes alive

Portland would win the next two games at Memphis, both by scores of 4-2 to cut the series to 3-2. The team now returns to Portland and Danny will take the mound in game 6.

September 28

Portland scores 2 runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. After breezing through the first two innings Danny would struggle in the 3rd and allow 4 runs as Memphis ties the game. Danny would leave in the 5th and be charged with 7 runs. Memphis would tag on 3 more after he would leave. Portland would cut the lead to 10-8 heading into the bottom of the 9th.

After a leadoff double a pair of ground outs bring home th erun to make it 10-9 with 2 outs. The next batter would take a bug swing at the first pitch and pop it up in the infield to lead to Memphis' celebration and title.

In the loss: 4.1 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs, 5 earned, 5 walks and 1 strikeout. He was 1-1 in the postseason with an ERA of 2.79.

2008 AAA Numbers

His final regular season AAA numbers: 7-2, 2.67, 12 games, 12 starts, 77.2 innings, 63 hits, 26 runs, 23 earned, 2 homeruns allowed, 39 walks, 56 strikeouts and opponents hit .220.

Danny was not called up to the Padres for Spring Training to the surprise of many fans. He is becoming wuite popular with the fans of the team, especially after the team has struggled and fallen well below .500 the last few seasons.

He remains in AAA with Portland as the 2009 season begins.

April 9

Opening day for Portland as they travel to Salt Lake City. Danny looks to be the ace of the staff and will get the nod for the opener.

Danny is in and out of trouble all day and leaves in the 7th with an 8-4 lead. The bullpen blows the game as they allow 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it at 4 and send the game to extra innings. Portland manufactures a run in the 11th for the 9-8 win.

In the no decision: 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He starts the season 0-0 with an ERA of 5.68.

April 14

The team returns home to host Las Vegas on a cool spring evening. Danny was pitching well in the 7th and held an 8-2 lead when he felt an incredible pain in his arm while throwing a pitch. He grabbed his arm and collapsed to the ground as the manager and trainer sprinted out to see what was wrong.

The team would to on to win 13-2 but that was secondary to seeing Danny in obviously severe pain.

In the win: 6.2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is 1-0 with an ERA or 3.46.

The verdict

Danny would suffer a torn bicep and his season would be over. He was surgery the next day and has been told by the doctors that it may be severe enough to keep him from pitching again.

The diagnosis would send Danny into a trememdous depression for the next several weeks as he feels what could be his dream life slipping away from him. Only time will now tell if he can come back and if he can ever be what it looks like he was going to be.

2009 AAA Numbers

1-0, 3.46, 2 games, 2 starts, 13.0 innings, 10 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 6 walks, 11 strikeouts and opponents hit .217.

Portland would again have a good season and make the playoffs. They would also again fall to Memphis in the championship, also 4 games to 2.

Danny would emain in AAA and work out with Portland as the year begins. His road to recovery has been a long one and he has really impressed doctors with the determination he showed to try to return to form.

Early in the spring it is still uncertain if he can return to what he once was as his pitches aren't quite as lively as they once were. Much of that seemed to be psychological as it seemed to some that he was holding back while throwing, understandable since it was throwing that led to the injury.

He will remain with Portland and he started to show enough by the end of spring trainnig for the manager to declare him as the opening day starter. This gave fans of both Portland and their parent club the Padres a lot of hope as he has quickly become a fan favorite for both his potential and the determination that he showed getting back to what looks to be close to where he once was.

April 8

Opening day for Portland as they host Las Vegas. Danny receives a standing ovation as he take the mound for his return. Danny strikes out th efirst batter that he faces and the crowd erupts with emotion as it looks like he is truly back.

Danny makes quick work of Las Vegas the first two innings and is rewarded as Portland scores 3 in the bottom of the 2nd. The score remains 2-0 until the 8th when Danny gets into a little trouble and allows 2 runs but strikes out the last batter of the inning. He is replaced by the closer for the 9th inning who shuts Las Vegas down for the 3-2 win. It is a very succesful return.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 2.25.

April 13

Porland travels to Colorado Springs for Danny's return part two. Danny shines in the game as he goes 8 innings and does not allow a run. He leaves with a 2-0 lead but the closer does not hold the lead this time and the team goes on to fall 4-3 in 11 innings.

In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA. So far it seems like they gave him a bionic arm in that operation.

April 18

Another road game, this time at Sacramento. Danny would allow a homerun in the 3rd to cut the lead to 2-1 after Portland had scored twice in the first inning. He would go on to pitch into the 8th but allow 2 unuearned rund in the 8th before coming out with the game tied 3-3. Portland would go on to win 5-4 in 11 innings.

In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 1-0 and his ERA is now 1.14.

April 23

Another road game for Portland as they travel to Fresno. Danny would have a no hitter through 5 before giving up a couple hits in the the 6th but would pitch out of that jam. He would pitch into the 8th and leave the game with 2 men on and leading 2-0. The bullpen would shut Fresno down for the 2-0 win as Danny has really started to show what he can do. Even coming back from an injury he looks like a mean among boys so far.

In the win: 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 with an ERA of 0.87 in his 4 starts.

Can I see you please?

The day after the Fresno game Danny's manger would call him and ask to speak to him in person. When they met there was a huge smile on the manger's face. He told Danny that it has been a joy watching him come back from that injury and he would love to keep him for the season theway he has pitched.

...but... The Padres have called and feel it is time for him to join the big club. He is to report to San Diego for assignment. The manger wished him all the best and told him to just keep doing what he does best, keep the hitters off balance and out-think them.

He will be watching, and the fans of Portland will be watching. Danny was overcome with joy but did feel a little sad that he could not get to pitch one more game in front of the Portland fans after all the support they showed him when coming back from the injury.

April 27

61 degrees in San Diego, cloudy and the wind blowing in. Danny took it all in as he runs out to take the mound in his MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT. He still cannot belive it but knows he has to show what he can do and this is what he has prepared for his entire "baseball career" so far. His debut will be against the last place Arizono Diamondbacks.

Danny would get the first batter that he faces to ground out. The next batter would single and then move to second on a wild pitch. Danny then caught the runner sleeping and picked him off second for the second out of the inning. That would prove to be a good thing as the next batter ripped a single to center. Danny would then strikout slugger Mike Taylor to end his first professional inning of work.

With the game still scoreless in the 3rd Danny would get his first professional at bat. He would make contact on the first pitch but ground out back to the pitcher.

He would pitch out of trouble in the 4th with runners at the corners and 2 outs but he would get a harmless ground out to end the inning and keep the game scoreless. It would remain scoreless as he comes to the plat in the bottom of the 6th with one out and after 2 called strikes and a foul ball he would ground out to shortstop.

Danny would continue to sail through the lineup, including a 5 pitch 1-2-3 8th inning and would still be on the hill in the 9th in a scoreless game. After getting a ground out and a fly out for the first two outs he would face first baseman Jason Mosely (doesn't hit for average but has been good for 30+ homeruns a season). The at bat would be a 10 pitch at bat that led to a walk. Before Danny threw another pitch he would catch Mosely napping at first and pick him off to end the 9th.

Danny would be pinch hit for in the bottom of the 9th and the Padres would get runners at 1st and 2nd with one out but would not be able to bring home the winning run. The game remained scoreless until the 12th when Arizone would score one to go up 1-0. In the bottom of the 12th the first two men would be retired but a walk would bring the potential winning run to the plate in the name of left fielder Tom Kaiser. He would wast little time in getting his 2nd homerun of the season and winning the game 2-1 in 12 innings.

In the no decision, major league debut: 9.0 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He begins 0-0 with an ERA of 0.00. At the plate he was 0 for 2.

May 3

The Padres travel to San Francisco for Danny's second major league start. Danny contrinues to pitch well as the Padres bats jump to life in an easy 13-2 win. Danny would get his first major league hit and RBI in the third inning when he doubled home a run. He would also single in a run in the 6th to give him 2 hits and 2 RBI's for the game.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 1.05. He was also 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBI's and 2 strikeouts.

May 8

Back hom to host the Chicago Cubs and the Padres continue their fine play as they win their 6th straight with another big offensive outburst. The final is 11-3 and Danny collects another victory.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 with an ERA of 1.88. At the plate he was 0 for 3 but he did score a run.

May 13

The Padres host Milwaukee as they hope to gain some ground on division leading Colorado who lost earlier in the day. Danny coasts through 7 with a 6-0 lead but gets in trouble in the 8th and allows 4 runs. He leaves with a 6-4 lead and the team hangs on for the 6-4 win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Danny is now 3-0 with an ERA of 2.53. He was 0 for 2 at the plate with a sacrifice.

May 17

On the road to play at Arizona and Danny would have his shortest Major League outing lasting just into the 6th inning. His pitch count was up and he was in a little troubel in the 6th and would leave trailing 1-0. Arizona would go on to win 3-0 and give Danny his first loss.

In the loss: 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is now 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a strikeout.

May 23

The Padres play an interleague game at Seattle. Danny would pitch okay into the 8th inning but a key error and one bad hanging pitch in which he gave up a homerun for the first time in the majors would lead to him allowing 5 runs and leave with the team trailing 5-4. The Padres would score 4 in the top of the 9th and win the game 8-5 getting Danny off the hook.

In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 8 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.60. If he keeps pitching this well he will cement a spot on the roster and may begin hearing rookie of the year talk.

May 29

The Padres return home to host the Cardinals. Danny would pitch well but 2 errors by the Padres would lead to 2 runs, one unearned, and the Padres bats would be silenced in a 2-0 loss.

In the loss: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA of 2.38. He was 0 for 2 at the plate.

Early Recap

The Padres were a game under .500 and in 3rd place in the division when Danny was called up. Now they are in 2nd and are 6 games over .500. Though they still trail the Rockies by 6.5 games they are now in the thick of a wild card chase.

Danny is currently 5th in the National League in ERA. He is also 5th in homeruns allowed per 9 innints at 0.17.

Among rookies he is 1st in ERA, 2nd in wins, 5th in starts, 4th in innings pitched, 1st in walks per 9 innings and 3rd in strikeouts.

June 5

San Diego is in need of a big win to turn things back around after coming off a series against the first place Rockies in which they were swept and fall 8.5 games back in the West. They travel on the road to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates, who are struggling this season.

Danny would give the team a much needed spark as he would not allow a hit until the 5th inning and go the distance in a 5-0 victory as he records his first career complete game and first career shutout.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He improves to 4-2 with an ERA of 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 4.

June 10

The Padres continue to struggle after Danny;s performance as they travel to Milwaukee with Danny taking the mound. Milwaukee enters the game in a tie for their division lead and playing good ball as of late (winning 7 of their last 10).

Danny would pitch into the 7th but after a throwing error by Danny would lead to the Brewers scoring twice in the 7th and taking a 5-3 lead he would be taken out. That would be the final and Danny would get the loss.

In the loss: 6.2 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He is now 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 run scored, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

June 16

The Padres would turn it around a little and Danny would get the call as they host the Los Angleles Dodgers. Danny would have a tough act to follow as he now follows ace Danny Hawkins in the rotation who would just come off picking up his 11th victory of the season (11-2, 2.14).

Danny would pitch okay but a mistake in the 2nd would lead to a homerun to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead and that would be all they would need, though they added 2 more runs for a 3-0 final.

In the loss: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 4-4 with an ERA of 2.35. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

June 23

Danny would get a couple extra days off before his next start as they travel to play at Texas in another inter-league game. The Padres are are back to just 4 games over .500 and can't seem to climb past 6 over .500.

With the team in need of a big game, Danny delievers. He throws one mistake that ends up as a solo homerun in the stands in the 5th but they would be leading 5-1 at that point and go on to win 8-1. Danny would go the distance for his second complete game.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walksm 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He improves to 5-4 with an ERA of 2.21.

June 29

They host Oakland as they are ni the midst of a nice stretch as they have won 5 games in a row. They trail the Rockies by 10 games but lead the wild card race by 2 games over Arizona. It looks like no-one will catch the Rockies at this point they way they have played this season.

Danny shines yet again as he goes the distance for the third time this season ans second time in a row in a 5-0 shutout victory. Danny would have a no hitter for 6.2 innings before giving up a 2 out single in the 7th. Fans are starting to look ahead with great hope as they already have an ace in the 27 year old Hawkins and having a potential 1-2 combination of Hawkins and Silver could be something special.

July 4

Danny gets the start at home against dicision rival San Francisco. He would pitch well and leave the game after 8 with a 3-2 lead but the closer would blow the save in the 9th and the games headed to extra innings. The Giants would rally for 4 runs in the 10th and win the game 7-3.

In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is still 6-4 with an ERA of 2.02. He was also 1 for 2 with a double at the plate.

July 9

The Padres travel to Washington for the last series before the all-star break. Danny would get hit around in the 5th inning, though 2 errors in the inning did not help, and leave though the team still had a 6-4 lead at the time. The Padres went on to win 12-7 but Danny did not pitch 5 innings so he got the no decision.

In the no decision: 4.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned, 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. He remains 6-4 with an ERA of 2.02. At the plate he was 0 for 3.

All-Star Time

Padres fans felt that Danny got overlooked as he was not named to the all-star team. To be fair he is dominating the rookies but tehre are several vets who have played all season and have impressive numbers.

At the break the Padres are 10.5 games behind the Rockies (who have the best record in the Majors) in the NL West. They still lead the wild card race as the Brewers are now one game back.

July 18

Danny gets the call in the the final game of their series at home against the Braves (who are 24 games below .500) looking to sweep their first series after the all-star break.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Padres would put up a 3-spot and that would be all they would need. Danny would go 8 strong and leave with a 3-1 lead. They would win 3-2 after allowing a run in the top of the 9th but getting out of trouble.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 7-4 with a 1.96 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a sacrifice.

July 23

The Padres would struggle following Danny's last start and now travel to San Francisco to play the Giants. Danny is looking to provide some kind of spark so they don't fall too far back in the wild card race.

He would do just that as he goes 8 strong scoreless innings before giving way to closer David Crouch who would get his 26th save of the season in the 2-0 victory.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Danny now sits at 8-4 and his ERA has dipped to 1.83. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a strikeout and a sacrifice bunt.

July 28

The road trip continues at Los Angeles. Danny would struggle with his control tonight and last just 6 innings. The game would be tied at 2 when he left but the bullpen would give up 4 runs in the 8th on the way to a 6-3 loss.

In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 8-4 and his ERA raises slightly to 1.88. At the plate Danny was 1 for 1 with a single, a run scored and a sacrifice bunt.

August 1

San Diego is at Colorado and Danny gets a big test against THE powerhouse of the Majors this season. Facing him is one of Colorado's good young arms Mark Morgan (10-3, 3.48).

Danny would be given a run in the top of the first but would struggle and last just 4 innings, leaving trailing 4-1. The Rockies would go on to a 9-6 win but not before the Padres would tie the game at 4 and get Danny off the hook.

In the no decision: 4.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 8-4 and his ERA jumps back over 2 to 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 1.

August 6

With the team still struggling they return home to host Washington who enters the game 19 games under .500. Danny would pitch a solid 8 innings and get aided by 10 runs in a 10-4 win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-4 with a 2.04 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 4.

August 12

The Padres are now on a roll as they play at the New York Mets, who lead the NL East by 7.0 games (Ed: where have we heard that before?). Danny would go 7 strong innings before being pinch hit for in the 8th with a 3-2 lead.

The bullpen would give up 2 in the bottom of the 8th and the Padres would fail to score in the 9th for the 4-3 loss. The blown save would cost Danny a chance at his 10th win of the season.

In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks, 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 9-4 and his ERA is now 2.07. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout.

August 17

Back to San Diego to host San Francisco. The Giants are floundering at 2 games below .500 and have not been playing well as of late. Danny tries for the 2nd time to pick up with 10th victory.

Danny would struggle mightily with his control and not last through the 4th inning. He would leave the game trailing 5-1 but the PAdres would tie the game in the 5th before going on to lose 8-6.

In the no decision: 3.2 innings, 3 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 7 walks and 4 strikeouts. While remaining 9-4 his ERA has now jumped to 2.25. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout and he would commit 2 throwing errors. This is a game that he definitely wants to forget.

Following the game his manager would call him into the office. He felt his heart skip a beat as he worried that the performance was going to get him demoted. His worries would be completely without merit as the manger wanted to talk to him about putting today behind him and to not worry about this affecting his status with the team.

August 22

The Padres remain at homs against Arizona. Both teams have been struggling over the past week. Danny makes attempt number 3 at getting his 10th win.

Danny would last just 5 innings and leave the game after injurying his leg on a ground ball right back at him in the 5th. He made the play to end the inning but would be limping back to the dugout. The Padres would trail 2-1 as he left and that would go on to be the final score.

In the loss: 5.0 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 9-5 with an ERA of 2.30. Danny was 0 for 1 at the plate.

The doctors would shut him down for at lest a week, maybe two with what was diagnosed as a knee injury, but doctors would not specify the extent of the injury except to say that it was not serious.

Monthly Recap

The Padres would be 15-13 in August and gain a little on Colorado who seems to be coasting. They are now 72-60 and are 8.5 games behind the Rockies. Good news is that the late surge over the past week and half has now put them 2.0 games ahead of the Dodgers in the wild card.

Danny is 2nd in the NL in ERA (2.30), tied for 1st in shutouts (2), 2nd in hits allowed per 9 innings (6.43), 4th in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.29) and 2nd in opponents batting average (.199).

Sorry, got yanked from my office last Thursday and have been in installation hell in California ever since (I have put in about 105 hours in the last 7 days with little timje to sleep or eat). I should be back home this weekend and Danny's career will continue (but probably not until I have gotten a little of my life back).

September 7

Danny gets the okay from the doctors and returns to the mound with a tough challen ge in his first game back as the Padres host the division leading Rockies. Though he would pile up a good number of strikeouts he would not have his best stuff and only last 5 innings, leaving trailing 4-2.

The Rockeis would roll to a 9-4 win to hand Danny the loss. Danny would again come up empty in search of win number 10.

In the loss: 5.0 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-6 with an ERA of 2.45. At the plate he was 0 for 1.

September 12

With the team on a 3 game win streak and now 2.5 games up in the wild card standings they travel to San Francisco to face the Giants who are right at .500 and trail the Padres by 5.5 in the standings. Danny makes his 5th attempt to get into double digits in wins.

After getting 2 runs in the first inning Danny would find himself in trouble in the 3rd and allow the Giants to take a 3-2 lead. Though he struggled with his control he would manage to last 7 innings and leave with a 4-3 lead. The bullpen would fail him in the 8th and allow the tying run to score before the Padres would get a run in the 9th to win 5-4. Another attempt at win number 10 comes up unsuccessful.

In the no-decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 9-6 and his ERA is now 2.51. At the plate he was 0 for 3.

September 18

With the Padres leading in the wild card race by 2.5 games but on a 2 game slide Danny will take the mound against the Dodgers, who are 5.5 behind San Diego in the race. Danny now goes after win number 10 for the 6th time.

Danny would turn in a strong outing as he would go 7 innings but leave trailing 1-0 as the Padres would lose their 3rd straight by a final of 4-0. They loss drops the Padres lead in the wild card to just 1.5 games and leaves Danny wondering if he will ever get that elusive 10th win.

In the loss: 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 9-7 and his ERA drops a bit to 2.46. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout. His .078 average doesn't exactly make him feared at the plate.

September 23

With 11 games remaining the Padres cling to a 2.5 game lead in the wild card race. Danny takes the mound as the Padres face the Diamondbacks who trail them by 6 games. This makes Danny's 7th attempt at win number 10.

Danny would pitch into the 8th but leave with the game tied 2-2 but responsible for the runners on base. One pitch by the reliever is all it would take to get him off the hook for the runners and give him a no decision as the Diamondbacks would eventually win 4-2 in 15 innings.

In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He remains 9-7 and his ERA is now 2.45. At the plate Danny was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt.

September 28

With 6 games left in the season the Padres head to St. Louis with a 4 game lead in the wild card race and nearing clinching a playoff spot. Danny takes the mound in yet another attempt to get his 10th victory of his rookie season.

Danny would struggle with his control and last only into the 6th inning but would leave with a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would fail him again and give up the tying run in the 8th and the Cardinals would go on to a 4-3 victory in 14 innings. There may be one more chance for him to get win number 10 this season.

In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 9-7 and his ERA is now 2.43. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout.

The Padres would go just 13-14 in September but thanks to the other wild card contenders falling off they would clinch the wild card on the final day of September as they are now 85-74 with the final 3 games of the season remaining.

October 3

Danny gets one last shot at win number 10 as the Padres travel to Arizona on the final day of the regular season. Danny may be starting to press a bit to get the number 10.

The game starts out well for Danny as he is given an early 5-0 lead and seems to be coasting up until the 7th inning when he gives up a 4 spot but remains in the game clinging to a 5-4 lead. In the 8th it all comes appart as he leaves the game with one out and one man on and the reliever gives up a homerun to the first batter he faces as they lose 6-5 and he gets a no decision.

In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He ends the season at 9-7 with an ERA of 2.53. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts as he ends the season hitting .070.

Playoffs Begin

The Padres will face the Central Division champion St. Louis Cardinals in the opening round of the playoffs. The other NL series sees the Rockies facing the Mets. In the AL the Yankees face the Tigers and the Rangers face the Royals.

The Cardinals would win the first two games of the series at home and put the Padres backs up against the wall. The Padres would in turn win their two games at San Diegoe to force a game 5 at St. Louis. The Padres would jump to an early 5-0 lead and win the game 5-1 to advance to the NLCS. Danny would warm up int he pen in one of the games but never see any action in the series.

The Padres face the Mets in the NLCS. In the AL it is the Yankees and the Royals who battle for the right to play for the title.

Game one would see the Mets score 7 runs in the first two innings of the Padres ace and coast to a 16-3 win. Danny would not see any action in the game and is getting frustrated about not being able to help the team.

Game two would be a close 3-2 win for the Mets as they would score 3 early and hold on for the win. The Padres would put a man on base in the 9th but not be able to get him past 1st. Fans are now beginning to question why Danny has not seen any action at all.

The Padres would lead game three 2-1 in the top of the 8th until a 2 run homerun by pinch hitter Jesus Robles would give the Mets a 3-2 lead. The Padres would fail to get a base runner in their final two innings and lose 3-2. They now trail 3-0 in the series.

In game 4 the Padresace Jason Hawkins would throw a 2 hit shutout in a 5-0 win to keep the Padres alive in the series. Danny would be given word that he would get the call in game 5.

Game 5 - NLCS

With the Padres trailing th Mets 3-1 in the NLCS, Danny will finally get his first action of the playoffs as he gets the nod for the start. Danny enters the game figuring that there is not really pressure on him as they trailed 3-0 at one point and were already pegged as the losing team in the series so anything now is just cake.

The first three innings would go well and the score would be 0-0 heading into the top of the 4th. With 2 outs and a runner on first Danny would face opposing pitcher Miguel Ramirez. After falling behind 3-0 Danny would try to groove a fastball to get a strike but Ramirez would be waiting on hit and put it into the seats in left field for a 2 run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th the Padres would put 2 on the board to tie the game. In the 5th with 2 outs and no-one on Danny would make anothe rmistake to left fielder Javier Green who would deposit this one much farther into the seats for the 3-2 lead. Danny would recover and get through the next two innings before being taken out for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th trailing 3-2. The Padres would not mount any attack and go on to lose 3-2 for the game and 4-1 for the series.

In the loss: 7.0 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 2 homeruns allowed. He was 0-1 with an ERA of 3.86 in the playoffs. At the plate he was 0 for 2.

Playoff Recap

The Royals would go on to beat the Mets 4-3 in the World Series.

Spring 2011

Danny gets his first start of spring training in the team's second game as they host the Phillies. He would get a no decision and go just 4 innings in his first tune up of the spring. He would look sharp and allow just 3 hits and no runs while walking just one and striking out 3. The team would go on to win 1-0 on a 2 out hit in the bottom of the 9th.

anny would injure his back in training and get just 4 starts during the month. He would end up 2-0 in spring training with an ERA of 2.35. He is showing the team a lot of promise thus far and has fans anticipating a very good season if he pairs up with the reigning Cy Young winner Jason Hawkins for a very strong top of the rotation.

Spring would end on a very positive note for Danny as he would be placed as the number two man in the rotation. This means that a lot is expected but it also gives him a chance to shine (or fade under the pressure).

April 6

After winning their opener in San Francisco; Danny gets his turn in the rotation looking to build on his success from his rookie season and become a household name in San Diego.

The game starts out well as Danny is the benefactor of 4 second inning runs. He would coast until the 5th when he would get hit around for 3 runs but remain in the game. After the Padres scored 3 more to take a 7-3 lead in the top of the 6th he would have a scoreless inning and take a 7-3 lead into the 7th.

The bottom of the 7th would not start out well as an error on shortstop Kee Mao would open lead to Danny being pulled with 1 out and an unearned run in already but he would be responsible for 2 runners. Both would score after the second out for two more unearned runs but the inning would end with them up 7-6. The Padres would score another in the 8th to make it 8-6 and hang on for an 8-7 win as Danny gets the win.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 3 earned, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 4.16. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 2 strikeouts and a sacrifice bunt.

April 11

Danny's second start of the season is back at home as they now host the San Francisco Giants. The Padres are coming off losing a series 2 games to 1 to the defending NL West champions, the Rockies.

Danny would look strong in his 7 innings of work before being taken out for a pinch hitter buy his pitch count would get a little high. He leaves the game leading 2-1, which becomes 4-1 as the pinch hitter he was pulled for hits a 2 run homerun and that would be the final score to give him the win.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 and his ERA is 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout.

April 16

With the team off to a good start and following up another wuality start by ace Hawkins; Danny takes the mound at Los Angeles against the Dodgers, who are struggling early and are 0-4 at home so far this season.

Danny would face the brunt of the frustration of the Dodgers as they would get to him early and he would only last 4 innings. They woudl trail 6-2 when he would be pulled on the way to a 9-4 loss.

In the loss: 4.0 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 2-1 with an ERA of 4.15. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt.

April 21

After Hawkins ended the team's brief skid with a win against the Diamondbacks, it's now Danny's turn to attempt to get back on track.

Danny would get his game back on track and have a shutout into the 9th inning before allowing 2 runs and not quite getting the complete game. He would get the win in a 10-2 route.

In the win: 8.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 3-1 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 RBI (on a fielder's choice), 1 strikeout and 1 sacrifice bunt.

April 27

After an off day Danny gets the call at Arizona. The Padres are currently second in the divisoin and lead the Diamondbacks by 2.5.

Danny would pitch well and last into the 8th but leave with the game tied at 2. The Diamondbacks would go on to win 3-2 in 13 innings.

In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is still 3-1 but his ERA has dipped below 3 to 2.94. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a sacrifice.

May 2

The Padres host Washington and are looking to get back to .500 after a dissapointing loss the night before.

Danny pitches into the 7th and leaves with a 2-0 lead and a man on with one out. The reliever throws a double play ball and th ePOadres go on to a 3-0 win.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is now 4-1 with an ERA of 2.48. At the plate he was 0 for 2 and is still looking for his first hit of the season.

May 7

With the team on a bit of a roll they travel to Florida to face the Marlins who are looking to get back to .500.

Danny does not have one of his better outings but does enough to get the win in a 10-4 route. He also manages to pick up his first hit of the season with a 1 out double in the second inning.

In the win: 7.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts and 2 homeruns allowed. He improves to 5-1 and his ERA is now 2.83. At the plate he was 1 for 4 with a 1 double, 1 run batted in and 1 strikeout.

May 12

The Padres are now at Atlanta looking to salvage a split against the last place Braves. After losing the first two games of a 4 game series they have won the third behind their ace Hawkins and now hope to managge a split with Danny on the hill.

Danny finds himself in the middle of a pitcher's duel as the game remains scoreless through 7 innings before he is pulled for a pinch hitter with 1 out and 2 men on in the top of the 8th. The pinch hitter promptly grounds into a double play to end the inning and the reliever gives up a homerun to the first batter he faces in the bottom of the 8th to give the Braves the 1-0 win.

In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He remains 5-1 and his ERA drops to 2.47. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout and a sacrifice bunt.

May 17

The Padres have been struggling since the Atlanta series and now are below .500 in need of a win to get back to sea level. The have wild card leader Cincinnati in town and are hoping to keep themselves within range.

Danny throws what is currently the best game of his short major league career as he goes the distance in a 4-0 shutout victory. He sets a career high with 11 strikeouts while allowing just 4 baserunners and not one reaching second.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. He is now 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 4 with a strikeout, dropping his season average to .048.

May 24

After sitting out a couple days with minor back pain Danny returns to action at home against the Cubs.

Danny does not have his best stuff today and lasts just 6 innings and leaves with his team trailing 4-1 en route to a 10-2 loss.

In the loss: 6.0 innings, 11 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is now 6-2 and his ERA is now 2.45. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout.

May 29

With the Padres back to one game under .500 Danny takes the mound against the Brewers. The Padres offense has been struggling as of late and may need a great performance from Danny to get them by.

Danny struggles early and comes out with a sore back in the 3rd inning with the team trailing 2-0. They would go on to lose 7-2 and Danny would get the loss.

In the loss: 2.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. He is now 6-3 with an ERA of 2.63. He did not get a plate appearance in the game.

After the game he would be looked at by team doctors and they said he shouldn't be out for more than a week, at the most.

The Padres struggle in May and have just a 13-14 record as the now sit at 25-26 and are already 9.5 games behind the Rockies, though they are still in 2nd in the division. June 8

After Danny's back has finally felt okay enough to get back in the rotation he gets to start against the Dodgers at home.

Danny would be monitored closely and on a low pitch count. He would not look sharp at all and only last 3 innings and would leave trailing 4-0. The Dodgers would never lose the lead and hang on for a 5-4 win, handing Danny his 4th loss of the season.

In the loss: 3.0 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Danny drops to 6-4 and his ERA is now 3.00. He did not have a plate appearance in the game.

June 14

As interleague play continues and the Padres travel to Tampa Bay to take on the recently hot Devil Rays Danny will try to right his shipt and the team's as they are now 2 games under .500 and not playing well. He will face the Devil Ray's 26 year old ace Arthur Hernandez (7-3, 3.02). Hernandez has gotten at least 18 wins in each of the past 3 seasons.

Danny would pitch well and last 8 innings with teh score tied at 2 after 8 innings. The Padres would put 3 on th eboard in the top of the 9th and go on to win 5-2, giving Danny wht win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 7-4 with an ERA of 2.93. With DH rules in affect he did not come to the plate and the team was none the worse for it.

June 19

The team is still struggling, now 3 under .500, and are on the road against the Cubs. The Cubs are 2 games over .500 and are one of the seemingly ever growing list of teams that are ahead of the Padres in the wild card standings.

Danny would get rocked and not even last through the 3rd inning as it would be 7-0 when he would leave and two more would score to make it 9-0 after the 3rd inning. The final would be a 12-4 loss.

In the loss: 2.1 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned, 0 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 7-5 and his ERA jumps to 3.48. HE was 0 for 1 at the plate before coming out.

June 22

With Danny coming off a very short outing he was given a quick turn around before his next start. The manager want him to get back to pitching and stop thinking about his recent troubles at it seems to be in his head constantly now.

The team plays at home against the Orioles. Sadly Danny lasts again only into the 3rd inning and gets blasted for 5 runs and leaves trailing 5-0 on the way to a 5-2 loss.

In the loss: 2.2 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He drops to 7-6 with an ERA of 3.89. He did not have an at bat in the game.

June 26

With the team struggling at 8 games under .500 they host the Red Sox who lead the AL wild card race. People are starting to question if Danny could use a few starts in AAA to get his head back on straight.

While he would last 6 and look good in 5 of the 6 innings, in the other he would allow 4 runs and leave the game trailing 4-0. The Red Sox would build th elead to 6-0 and hang on for a 6-5 win.

In the loss: 6.0 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 7-7 with and ERA of 4.02. He was 0 for 1 at the plate.

Monthly Recap

The Padres struggled during June with a record of 11-16. The are now 36-42 and are in 4th place in the NL West, 13.5 games behind the division leading Rockies. They are 8th in the wild card race, 8.5 games behind the Brewers. Jason Hawkins (11-1, 1.49) is now the only bright spot on the team (even an amazing season like that can't seem to help the Padres now).

Danny is no longer in the leaderboard and has been struggling grealty. Since his shutout on May 17 that improved him to 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA he has now been 1-6 in his last 7 starts and has goen 40.2 innings and allowed 43 hits, 28 runs, 27 earned, walked 14 and struck out just 19. His ERA over the last 7 outings is a lousy 5.98.

July 1

The month starts off as the PAdres travel to play against the Dodgers and Danny takes the mound in need of something to get him out of his current cold spell.

Danny looks nearly unhittable for most of the game and the Padres put up 5 runs in the 5th thanks to Danny's first career homerun which was a grand slam and the only hit Danny would allow is a double in the 3rd inning. He would only go 8 innings as errors in the field and a couple walks would lead to 3 unearned runs in the 8th but the Padres would win 9-4.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 1 hit, 3 runs, 0 earned, 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. He improves to 8-7 and his ERA drops back below 4 to 3.71. Danny was 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 homerun, 1 run scored and 4 runs batted in. HE seemed to be having fun for the first time in almost a month.

July 7

The Padres host the Marlins in their first game after the all-star break and Danny gets the call. San Diego is hoping to keep the momentum as they were on a 5 game winning streak prior to the break.

Danny would have just an okay game and leave after 6 innings with the score tied at 4. The Marlins would go on to win 5-4 in 11 innings to break the Padres' winning streak.

In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 8-7 and his ERA is now 3.75. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout and he commited hsi second error of the season in the field.

July 12

After the rough series agains the Marlins they are now hosting the Braves, a team that is also struggling below .500. Danny will face their best pitcher as of late, Rory Cook (7-5, 2.92).

Danny came out firing and the Padres scored early on the way to a 6-0 win. Danny would go the distance for the shutout.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is now 9-7 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 walk, 1 run scored and 1 sacrifice bunt. He hopes that 10 wins will not be as ellusive as it was in his rookie season.

July 19

After a schedling oddity that gave the Padres a couple days off in a row they now play at Arizona and are just 2 games under .500 and hope to keep on their roll. Danny makes his first attempt this season to reach 10 wins.

Control issues would chase Danny from the game in the 7th, though he would have allowed just one hit at that time. He would leave with a 7-3 lead and that would be the final score as he would earn his 10th win of the season in his first attempt this time.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 1 hit, 3 runs, 3 earned, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is now 10-7 with an ERA of 3.50. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with 2 sacrifice bunts.

July 23

Danny gets the call on 3 days rest as they host the Mets and look to go over .500 for the first time in several weeks.

Danny pitched well but left after 8 innings with the game tied at 3. The Mets would go on to win 4-3 in 10 innings.

In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 10-7 and his ERA is 3.49. At the plate he was 0 for 3.

July 28

As Danny returns to the normal 4 days rest the Padrtes play at the divisoin leading Rockies and look to get back to .500.

Danny doesn't have his normal command but looks okay. The problem was the Padres bats as they fall 3-0.

In the loss: 7.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 0 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He drops to 10-8 with an ERA of 3.51. At the plate he was 0 for 2.

Monthly Recap

The Padres finished the month on a down note after getting back to .500 but falling back a bit over the last week of the month. They end up 12-11 for the month, now 48-53, but have lost 5 straight to end the month. They are in 3rd place in the NL West, 13.5 behind the diviosn leading Rockies. In the wild card they are 5th and are 11 games behind the Brewers. The post season does not look like a reality for the Padres.

The Padres end the month trading for the future as they trade starting pitcher Rafael Peralta to the Yankees for two young minor league infielders and they trade their starting right fielder Angel Hernandex to Arizona for a 20 year old prospect.

Danny its tied for 7th in the NL in wins (10) and tied for 1st in shutouts (2).

No sophomore slump for Danny. Seems the kid is getting it together for sure. You think he'll spend his whole career with the Pads or is it too early to say?

I wouldn't be happy about those two trades that the team made if I were him. The "prospects" don't seem to show as even a blip on the radar screen so far where potential is concerned. Based on that he may already be thinking about his future with a winner.

That is just idle chatter though as I am not ahead in his career so don't read that as a hint of things to come.

August 2

To Houston they will go as the team tries to respond to the recent fire sale, as the fans are characterizing it.

Danny goes 7 innings and whil allowing 11 hits he does a nice job of pitching out of trouble and leaves with a 4-1 lead and the Padres hang on for the 4-3 win.

In the win: 7.0 innings, 11 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. He improves to 11-8 with an ERA of 3.41. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout and 1 sacrifice bunt. He is now hitting just .050 for the season.

August 7

Back home against the Diamondbacks with the team still struggling and now back to 6 games under .500.

Danny pitches 8 innings but gives up 4 runs and leaves trailing 4-0. The Padres are unable to score and lose 6-0 after allowing 2 more in the 9th.

In the loss: 8.0 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 11-9 with an ERA of 3.40. At the plate he was 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout.

August 12

It doesn't get any easier for the team as they travel to St. Louis to face the team with the best record in the National League. The Cardinals are 26 games better than the Padres.

Danny would struggle and last just 3 innings and leave witht he game tied at 3. The Padres would battle but find themselves on the wrong end of the 7-6 final as they now drop 10 games under .500. Danny would find himself quite frustrated after the game and would come out and publicly question the franchise and their direction.

In the no decision: 3.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He remains 11-9 and his ERA is 3.51. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout.

August 17

With the team in Cincinnati to face the Reds they look to hurt the Reds in their chase of the Brewers for the wild card.

Danny would step it up a notch and throw a complete game in a 6-1 win. He would be 3 outs away from a shutout before allowing a run in the 9th, before retiring the next three batters for the complete game victory.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He improves to 12-9 with an ERA of 3.38. At the plate he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, 1 run scored, 1 RBI and 1 strikeout.

August 22

Home against the Astros, a team with even more troubles than the Padres.

Danny goes 8 strong innings and allows just 1 unearned run as he leaves with a 3-1 lead. The closer retires the Astros in order in the 9th for the 3-1 win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 13-9 with an ERA of 3.22. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 strikeout.

August 27

The Padres travel to play at the NL East leading Mets while having won 7 of their last 10, a minor positive for the club. Danny still is not happy with the season and with the team. He has seemed to distance himself from the club a bit, and his team-mates.

Danny does not have his best stuff but lasts 6 innings and leaves with a 5-3 lead. The Padres never lose the lead and go on to win 9-7.

In the win: 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He improves to 14-9 with an ERA of 3.26. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with a strikeout.

After the game the press tries to stir things up a bit and ask him several loaded questions but he does a good job of not giving them anything to print, though he is still clearly upset.

Monthly Recap

Despite their top two starters being a combined 30-13 (Danny 14-9 and Jason Hawkins 16-4) the PAdres still find themselves at just 63-66. They do finish August with a record of 15-13 and get back to within 3 games of .500 after dropping to 10 under at one point early in August.

Danny is tied for 4th in the NL in wins (4), tied for 1st in shutouts (2) and 5th in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.40).

September 1

Danny starts the month off at home against the Diamondbacks. The game starts out fairly well for Danny with the exception of one mistake he made that ended up over the wall for a solo homerun. In the 6th inning with 2 outs and a 3-1 lead Danny would feel his back tighten up while throwing a pitch. The Trainer would come out and Danny would not be able to continue. The Padres would hang on for a 3-2 win.

In the win: 5.2 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He improves to 15-9 with an ERA of 3.21. At the plate he was 0 for 2.

He would be listed as day to day following the game. His next start would depend upon how he responds to the treatment. The early prediction is at least a week to recover; though doctor's may shut him down for two weeks to be safe.

September 9

With Danny still feeling stiffness in his back the manager decided to send him out as they play at Arizona. This would not be a good move as he did not look good at all and would leave in the 5th trailing 8-0 in a game they would lose 8-1.

In the loss: 4.2 innings, 9 hits, 8 runs, 7 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Danny is now 15-10 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt.

Following the game Danny would give the press plenty to write about as he ripped into the manager for sending him out there and expressed displeasure with himself for allowing it to happen.

September 14

Danny looks for his 16th win of the season but has a tough challenge ahead as they play at the division leading Rockies.

Danny comes out and pitches a strong 8 innings and leaves with a 4-1 lead. Closer Alex Lopez notches his 17th save of the season while allowing just 1 walk in the 9th for the 4-1 win.

In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 16-10 with a 3.37 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 strikeout. With 20 games remaining he still has an outside chance of reaching 20 wins if he stays healthy as he should get 4 more starts.

September 19

On paper this looks like a good game for Danny as the Padres host the San Francisco Giants who have the worst record in the National League. Add the fact that the Giants' starting pitcher is just 3-9 with an ERA near 6 and it looks like a very win-able game.

This is one of those games that plays out as it looks on paper. Danny pitches into the 7th and leaves with a 3-1 lead. The Padres would go on to win 6-1.

In the win: 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He improves to 17-10 with an ERA of 3.31. At the plate he was 0 for 2. 20 wins still remains an outside possibility.

September 24

The day after seeing Jason Hawkins get his 19th win of the season Danny will go for his 18th. This will be a tough matchup as Danny will square off against the Pirates ace Hamiliton Schmidt (17-10, 2.54) as they host Pittsburgh.

After giving up a run in the 2nd and a run int eh 3rd inning to fall behind 2-0 Danny would settle down. In the bottom of the 3rd the Padres would put 4 runs up to take a 4-2 lead.

Danny would pitch into the 8th inning and leave with a 7-2 lead. Tha would become the final score as Danny notches his 18th victory of the season.

In the win: 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is now 18-10 with an ERA of 3.28. At the plate he was 1 for 3 with a single to raise his average to .092.

September 29

Danny looks to tie team-mate Jason Hawkins for the National League lead with his 19th win of the season after Jason had a no decision the previous night to remain at 19. They play at San Francisco and Danny gets to face the same pitcher that he faced the last time the two teams played. Again it looks good on paper.

Danny would nearly make history as he retires the first 20 batter that he faces before walking a batter with 2 outs in the 7th inning. After a perfect 8th he takes a no hitter into the bottom of the 9th. The leadoff hitter would fall behind 0-1 but hit a line drive that would fall in front of the left fielder to break up his no hit bid. He would retire the next three batters to complete the 1 hit shutout and not allow a runner to second base.

In the win: 9.0 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He would throw just 100 pitches in the complete game. He improves to 19-10 with an ERA of 3.15. At the plate he was 0 for 4 with 1 sacrifice bunt.

The Padres have a very good month and go 16-12 to move 1 game over .500 at 79-78 with 5 games left to play.The remain in 4th in the NL West, 15 games behind the Rockies, who have clinched the division. In the wild card race they are 8 games behind the Brewers who are nearing clinching.

Danny would go 5-1 in September with a 2.63, including the near no-hitter. That would earn him pitcher of the month honors in the National League for September.

He is now tied with team-mate Jason Hawkins for the lead in wins in the National League (19), has moved up to 5th in innings pitched (220.1), leads the league in shutouts (3) and is 5th in the league in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.37).

October 4

The Padres play at the Brewers, who have clinched the wild card, as Danny looks to reach 20 wins. The previous night saw Jason Hawkins collect his 20th and make him the odds on favorite to win the Cy Young (for the second straight season).

Danny's season would not end as he wanted it to as he would get shelled in the first inning and not even make it through the inning for his shortest professional outing. Not one of the pitchers would stop the Brewers as the Padres would fall 17-2.

In the loss: 0.2 innings, 4 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He is 19-11 with an ERA of 3.22. He did not get an at bat in the game.

Season Recap

The Padres finish the season at 82-80 and ni 4th place in the National League West. The Mets, Cardinals and Rockies win their divisions with the Brewers winning the wild card. The Cardinals had a dream season with 115 wins. In the AL the Yankees, Royal and A's win their divisions with the Red Sox winning the wild card.

The Cardinals would sweep the Rockies and the Brewers would beat the Mets to give the NL a St. Louis versus Milwaukee LCS. In the AL the Royals beat the Red Sox and the Yankees beat the A's to make the ALCS the Royals versus the Yankees.

The Cardinals would be the Brewers 4-2 and the Royals would beat the Yankees 4-3. The World Series would be set as the Royals against the Cardinals. The teams that lead their leagues in wins will face each other for the title.

The Cardinals would finish off their dream season with a 4-2 series win over the Royals giving them the title.

Jason Hawkins would win the Cy Young with his 20-5 record and 2.13 ERA.

Amazingly the Padres would have their top two pitchers combine for a 39-16 record yet only finish at 82-80 and out of the playoffs as the rest of the staff was 43-64.

Danny's Season

19-11, 3.22 ERA, 35 games, 35 starts, 221.0 innings, 196 hits, 96 runs, 79 earned, 9 homeruns allowed, 77 walks, 168 strikeouts and opponents hit .235.

He ends up 2nd in NL in wins (19), 8th in winning percentage (.633), 6th in innings pitched (221.0), 6th in batters faced (930), 10th in wild pitches (8), 10th in ERA (3.22), 5th in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.37), 8th in VORP (45.9), 6th in quality starts (23), 7th in quality start percentage (.657), 2nd in complete games (4), 3rd in complete game percentage (.114), 1st in shutouts (3) and 4th in ground ball percentage (.66).

Lake Elsinore has been floundering near last place in the South Division of the California league and are hoping for any kind of spark. Danny's pro career did not start out well as he gets hit hard in his first inning of work and allows 4 runs, 3 are earned. The manager leaves him in to see if he can work through the problems and he goes on to pitch 6 innings overall and allows just one more run though he would pick up the loss (5-1). He showed promise by coming back from his terrible start and he ended up with 6.0 innings of work, 7 hits allowed, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, walked 5 and struck out 3. After his first start he is now 0-1 with an ERA of 6.00. June 5 With the manager chosing to go with a 4 man rotation Danny's turn come up quick as the team travels to San Jose. Danny would rebound in great fashion as he would give the team 6 strong innings of work and allow just 3 hits and 1 run. He leaves the game up 5-1 and in position for his first professional win. The team would extend the lead to 6-1 but all would fall apart in the bottom of the 8th when San Jose would score 5 runs to tie the game giving Danny a no decision. San Jose would then score the winning run in the bottom of the 9th on a one out single with two men on (both had been walked) as Lake Elsinore's relievers would again be at the forefront of an agonizing loss. Danny's numbers would be: 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 4 walks and 6 strike outs. He remains 0-1 and his ERA drop to 3.75. June 9 Another start off 3 days rest for Danny as the team travels to Modesto. Danny would make his longest start so far as he would pitch into the 8th inning. After 7 scoreless innings he would get one out in the 8th but a walk and an error would force him out of the game with 2 men aboard and leading 3-0. A single allowed by the reliever would score both runs and bring Modesto to within 1 run at 3-2 but they would strand that runner on base. The ninth would see Modesto load the bases on walks with 2 outs but a pop up would end the game and give Danny his first win (3-2). In the win: 7.1 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 5 strike outs. He earns his first professional victory and is now 1-1 and his ERA has dropped to 2.79. Things may be looking up. June 14 Next the team travels to play at the Inland Empire Yaks. Danny would throw a very good game as he would keep the Yaks scoreless for 8 innings. Lake Elsinore would score 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 2-0 lead and the game would be turned over to the closer. This time the closer would finish the game in short order retiring the side 1-2-3 for a 2-0 win for Lake Elsinore. Danny's manager could not say enough good things about him after the game and thinks that he will be the real deal. In the win: 8.0 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 6 strike outs. His record improves to 2-1 and his ERA drops to 1.98. June 18 The team returns home to host Rancho Cucamonga in Danny's first return to pitch in front of the home fans since his very first start. The team would give him a 5 run 3rd inning as a home coming present as he would get in a little trouble and not make it through 6 but would only allow 2 runs in that time. Lake Elsinore would go on to win 6-2 and give Danny his 3rd win of the season. In the win: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and he would allow a homerun for the first time. He is now 3-1 with an ERA of 2.20. June 22 Back on the road and back up against the Inland Empire Yaks. Danny would pitch into the 8th and leave with the team trailing 2-1. Lake Elsinore would tie the game in the 9th only to see the Yaks win it in the bottom of the 9th as Danny would get a no decision in the 3-2 loss. His numbers: 7.1 innings, 9 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 3-1 and is ERA is now 2.25. June 28 Back hom and again for Rancho Cocamonga. Danny would not dissapoint the home fans as he would pitch his first complete game and earn his first shutout in a 1-0 pitchers duel. In the win: 9.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. He is now 4-1 with an ERA of 1.84. Great News The day after his shutout he would get called into the office and told that he is now going to be called up to the AA team in San Antonio. Not only is it a bump in level but San Antonio currently leads the division by 3 games so Danny gets a little playoff chase experience. He does not get a friendly welcome as he pitches just a couple batters into the 6th inning and gets tagged for the loss in an 8-6 final. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 5.40 in AA. July 5 A quick down time leads to Danny returning to the mound just 4 days later as the team travels to Midland. He would face off against Midland ace Raul Sandoval, though Midland is struggling as a team. Danny would get in trouble a bit and leave in the 6th with his team trailing 3-2. San Antonio would go on to score 2 in the top of the 9th and win the game 4-3. In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts while commiting his first error as he would make a bad throw on a sacrifice bunt in the 6th that would lead to another run. He remains 0-1 and his ERA has dipped a bit to 4.35. July 8 As the team has lost a starter to injury and another to promotion they would ask Danny to go again on just a couple days rest. It would actually be in the last game of a 4 game series against Midland meaning he would start twice against the same team it the same series. While on a guarded pitch count he would go just over 5 innings and get a no decision on a game that would end up as a 3-1 San Antonio victory in 13 innings. Danny would pitch well as he would leave without allowing a run. In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He is still 0-1 but his ERA is now 2.87. July 11 The insane schedule continues as Danny takes the mound at home against Arkansas. The overuse would see him tire in the 6th and leave the game trailing 4-1. After each team scored another run to make it 5-2 San Antonio would bat around in the 8th and score 6 runs to take an 8-5 lead. Arkansas would tie the game with a 3 run homerun in the top of the 9th to make it 8-8. After a single, sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk pinch hitter Oliver Brito would single in the winning run for a 9-8 final. In the no decision: 5.0 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He remains 0-1 but his ERA is now 3.48. Some fans are begining to question the manager's overuse of Danny and some of the other starters. July 14 Again on short rest Danny takes the hill. This time against Springfield. Danny would pitch a very good game but could not complete it as he has been throwing too much. San Antonio would win easily 7-1 and Danny would get his first win in AA. In the win: 6.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He threw just 77 pitches in the 6 innings. He is now 1-1 with an ERA of 3.04. July 18 In the most rest that Danny has been allowed recently he will pitch at Frisco. He would have his longest outing of the year in terms of innings but end up with a no decision as Frisco would go on to beat San Antonio 4-3 in 10 innings. In the no decision: 8/0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 with an ERA of 3.12. July 21 Back to what looks like a sure fire way to blowing out his arm and ending his career early he is back on the mound. He would pitch just in to the 6th inning but would leave with a little stiffness in his arm and th egame tied at 1. San Antonio would go on to win the game 6-3 and inrease their lead to 4.5 games. In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 but his ERA has dropped to 2.70. He would see the doctor after the game and be given a shot that made his arm feel much better. The team doctor said that there is nothign wrong with his arm. July 24 Not feeling any more pain in his arm and a couple shots from the doctor later Danny is back on the mound. Danny would pitch well and take a no hitter into the 6th before giving up a 1 out single. After the 6th his arm felt sore so he was taken out of the game leading 1-0. The bullpen would lose the lead but San Antonio would then go on to score 5 more runs to win the game 6-1 but giving Danny a no decision. In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. HE remains 1-1 but his ERA is now 2.35. Another trip to the doctor would lead to another shot and Danny is told to rest his arm for a day and he'll be fine. July 27 They host Midland and Danny takes the start again. While believing that he should speak up he just doesn't want to let the team down. Danny would last just 4 innings and leave the game trailing 2-1. Midland would go on to win 5-2 as Danny would get his 2nd loss. He isn't feeling pain in his arm but just didn't have anything on his pitches by the time he finished the 4th. In the loss: 4.0 innigns, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. He is now 1-2 with an ERA of 2.52. After the game rumors would begin to surface that some of the pitching staff complained about being over-used but the manager pointed to the standings and said that he is managing this team to first place and it's because of his "expert" use of his pitching staff. He would add that he knows when they are at risk and won't let anything happen to them. July 30 Danny would start against Midland again and would pitch well enough to make it into the 7th before coming out of the game with a 4-1 lead. They would go on to win 5-1 as Danny would get his 2nd win. In the win: 6.2 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He would give up a homerun for the first time in AA. He is now 2-2 with an ERA of 2.38 and an arm that feels like rubber.

This, however, does not look to helping to add to his down time as he continues the wuick turn around between starts with Corpus Christi coming to town. He would pitch well but only last into the 6th inning with weariness in his arm causing him control problems late. The game would be tied at 1 when he would leave and each team would score a pair in the 8th. The game would go into the 10th tied at 3. In the bottom of the 10th, catcher Kurt Page would double into the gap in right with a runner on base and drive in the winning run for a 4-3 San Antonio victory. The win put them back up by 4 games. In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 2-2 but his ERA has dipped to 2.32. August 6 After a rare 3 day rest period Danny would start at home against Wichita, a team in need of a victory as they are easily in the middle of the pack this season. San Antonio would score 5 in the first 4 innings and give Danny a large enough cushion as they went on to an 8-3 victory. Danny would not have one of his best outings but would do enough to get the win. In the win: 6.2 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA 0f 2.49. August 10 Another start off three days rest as San Antonio travels to Tulsa. Oddly Danny would not respond well to the "extra" day off. HE would last 6 inings and leave trailing 4-0 on the way to a 10-4 loss. In the loss: 6.0 innings, 10 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 1 strikeout. He is now 3-3 with an ERA of 2.65. The wear and tear of a long season looks to be catching up with him (and his manager's insane rotation). August 13 On the hill in Wichita after just 2 days rest. Danny would pitch into the 6th and leave with a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would shut the door as they would win a close one by that 3-2 final. In the win: 5.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He improves his record to 4-3 with an ERA of 2.69. Following the game the manager told him that he is really counting on Danny holding it together the rest of the season with the playoffs on the line and the team desperately short on quality starters. Translation: don't expect many off days and call a good surgeon to repair that arm after the season. August 16 Danny would start at home against Tulsa. He would last only 5 innings and leave trailing 2-1 but San Antonio would tie the game in the 6th. The game would remain tied until the top of the 9th when overused pitcher Fernando Alverado would get smoked to 4 runs as San Antonio would fall by a 6-2 score. This would be the teams's 3rd consecutive loss and their lead is now down to 2.5 games. The next day Alveraro would be placed on the DL with shoulder trouble, not a surprise to fans of the team as he would not only be starting with regularity but also be carrying a good load of the relief duties. At one point recently he had pitched in 5 games in a 6 day period including a start in the middle of that time. In the no decision: 5.0 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Danny remains 4-3 and his ERA is now 2.74. August 19 Danny would get a bit of a scare in this game as his arm would stiffen in the 5th and he would leave the game trailing 1-0. The team would go on to lose 3-1 as Danny would get the loss. In the loss: 4.2 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He drops to 4-4 with an ERA of 2.60. He would get another shot from the team physician and be listed as day to day with shoulder pain. August 23 Apparently day to day means 3 days off instead of 2. Danny would take the mound at Midland with the team on a major slide and only a game in front. Danny would step up for the team big time with a gem of a performance. He would go 8 innings and the team would get just enough offense as he turned the game over to the closer with a 4-1 lead. Tomas Hernandez would pitch a quick 9th inning for the save. Tomas would soon find homself in the rotation next to Danny. In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 5-4 with a 2.48 ERA. August 26 San Antonio would host Frisco as Danny would again start with a sore shoulder. He would pitch just into the 6th inning and leave trailing 3-1. Frisco would take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th. San Antonio would stun the Fricso bench with a 4 run rally with 2 outs in the 9th to send the game to extra innings, getting Danny off the hook. In the top of the 12th Frisco would get back to back solo homeruns and go on to win 8-6 in 12. In the no decision: 5.2 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 5-4 and his ERA is now 2.61. August 29 With a tired pitching staff Danny would get thrown to the wolves today as the team travels to Corpus Christi. He would end up throwing a complete game but one bad innign where he gave up 4 runs would be his downfall in a 4-2 loss. In the loss: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 7 walks (season high) and 2 strikeouts. He is now 5-5 with an ERA of 2.75. Two days later the team would clinch the division and a playoff birth.

He would pitch an okay game and pitch into the 8th but a couple of key errors would lead to him leaving trailing 5-2 en route to a 10-3 blow out. In the loss: 7.1 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 4.91 in the post season. San Antonio would go on to lose the next two game 13-3 and 6-2 and be eliminated. Danny's AA statistics: 5-5, 2.75 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 111.1 innings, 92 hits, 39 runs, 34 earned, 38 walks, 63 strikeouts, 2 homeruns allowed and opponents hit .223. This was a season of learning for Danny. He needs to learn how to handle the pressure of the post season and how to handle a manager that wants to overuse him.

The upcoming new season will be ushered in by a new manager. One who has already spoken to Danny and promises that he will not be over-used and put at risk as was done to him last season. April 10 Opening day as San Antonio travels to Corpus Christi. Danny opens the season off sith a solid performance that took him into the 8th inning and he would leave with the game tied at 2. The game would remain tied until the bottom of the 10th when reliever Lance Marsh would give up singles to the first two batters of the inning. With no outs and runners at the corners he would hang a curve ball that has last been seen dissapearing into the night sky to give Corpus Christi the 5-2 win. In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA. April 16 After an extra day of rest due to a scheduling oddity Danny would start at home against Midland. Midland would not be kind as he would have his shortest outing of his brief pro career lasting just 1 and a third innings. The offensive barrage would continue on the way to a 15-7 loss. In the loss: 1.1 innings, 6 hits, 8 runs, 8 earned, 2 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 homerun allowed. He is 0-1 with a ballooning ERA of 10.00. April 21 Being a pro is all about how you respond to adversity. Danny would rebound well from his last dissapointing start as the offense would give him 2 runs early and that would be more than enough in a 2-1 win. In the victory: 7.0 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is now 1-1 with an ERA of 6.19. April 26 Danny would end up on the short end of a picther's duel today as the team travels to Midland. Though he would give up just 1 unearned run the team would fall 1-0. In the loss: 7.2 innings, 1 run, 0 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is 1-2 with an ERA of 4.24.

May 1 San Antonio returns home to start the second month of the season looking for a spark as they are floundering around .500 and not playing with any consistency. The host Arkansas, another team having early trouble. The game is billed as a showdown between young aces as 21 year old Antonio Pachelo takes the mound for Arkansas. The game lives up to it's hype as it is scoreless into the 6th inning when a single and sacrifice bunt give San Antonio a runner at 2nd with one out and career minor league first baseman Frederic Belanger singles home the first run of the game. That would also be the only run of the game as Danny would throw 8 scoreless innings in the 1-0 victory. In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He improves to 2-2 with an ERA of 3.16. May 6 As the home stand continues Danny starts against Springfield looking to continue the fine job he has done his last few starts. His team would make it easy for him with 8 early runs. Things would go well until the 7th inning when Danny would walk the first two batters of the inning. After striking out the next hitter it would lead to runners at 1st and 3rd with one out. A rocket up the middle would glace off his glove as he attempts to make what would have been a great play and results in a hit and run scored. That would just be the first problem as Danny would remain on the ground in pain. He would come out of the game with a very sore back. Doctors would later shut him down for an estimated 1-2 weeks. After surviving picthing every 3 days last season without an injury that kept him out a hard shot up the middle does him in. San Antonio would go on to win 8-1. In the win: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA of 2.87. May 18 After being out for 12 days Danny returns to the mound. Frisco comes to town for his return. He would begin to struggle in the 2nd allowing a walk and two hits and giving up the first run of the game. He managed to put that behind him and shut the door for the next 6 innings and San Antonio would score 2 runs for the 2-1 lead which would be the final score. The win would make him 4-1 in his last 5 starts, he would not allow more than 1 run in any of those starts and only 3 runs total in those starts. In the win: 8.0 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is 4-2 with an ERA of 2.56. May 23 Another home start for Danny, this time against Corpus Christi. Danny would not continue his streak as Corpus Christi would continue their hot hitting (they have scored 35 runs in the last 4 games) by putting up 4 runs in the 2nd. Danny would settle a little but they would go on to lose 6-3. In the loss: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 4-3 with an ERA of 3.12. May 28 On the road this time as they travel to Tulsa. Again the 2nd inning would strike as he would give up 2 early runs. He would not be dshapr for the rest of the game but would continue to pitch out of the jams he found himself in as he lasts into the 7th and leave with the team up 4-2 which would go on to be the final score. In the win: 6.2 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 5-3 with an ERA of 3.07.

A first inning solo shot by DH Herb Smiley would give San Antonio a 1-0 lead and Danny would hold serve through 6 with the game still 1-0. In the top of the 7th San Antonio would score two more for a 3-0 lead and that would be more than enough. Though Danny would allow a run in teh bottom of the 7th to make it 3-1 he would give up nothing else and leave after 8 with the 3-1 lead and the closer would home Wichita down for the win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is now 7-3 with an ERA of 2.55. June 11 At home with Frisco coming to town. Danny would not have one of his better game but he would still last 8 innings and leave with the game tied at 4. The game would go to the 10th inning tied at 4. After a scoreless top of the 10th, San Antonio would get a bserunner with one out and shortsop Juan Pina would double home the winning run. In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. He remains 7-3 but his ERA climbs slightly to 2.74. June 16 The team travels to Corpus Christi and they do not treat Danny well. He would go just 6 innings and give up 4 runs on the way to a 7-2 loss. In the loss: 6.0 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is not 7-4 with a 2.97 ERA. June 21 At Midland for the last game of the road trip prior to the league's all star game. Danny would struggle with his control but still last 7 innings and leave with a 3-2 lead. A blown save in the 8th would tie the game but San Antonio would score 3 in the top of the 9th for the 6-3 win. Though Danny lacked control he would still manage to keep Corpus Christi from getting any really good wood on the ball and his 11-3 ground out to fly out ratio would show that. In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. He remains 7-4 and his ERA dips slightly to 2.94. After the game the manager would call him over to talk. Danny was hopeful to hear the words that he would be promoted but instead would be told that he was named to the all-star team. The game would be played 2 days later and Danny would not see any action as he was not yet rested but he would enjoy the recognition. June 26 At home against Springfield and Danny threw well, but not great, as he lasted into the 7th and left trailing 2-0. San Antonio's offense would be shut down as Springfield would go on to a 5-0 win. In the loss: 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He drops to 7-5 and his ERA is now 2.93.

July 6 San Antonio travels to play at Frisco. The trip would not be a good one for Danny as he gets hit for 5 runs in teh first two innings and he would last just 4 innings in a 7-2 loss. This will be his 4th consecutive loss. In the loss: 4.0 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. His record is now even at 7-7 and his ERA has rusen to 3.39. July 10 The team returns home looking to snap it's losing streak (7 games) and Danny hopes to break his. Though not pitching well in terms of results, he pitched efficiently enough to last into the 9th inning. He would enter the 9th leading 7-2 and leave with one out and two men on. Those men would score as the final would be 7-4. In the win: 8.1 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 8-7 with an ERA of 3.45. July 13 In a throwback to last season's short roatations Danny would take the hill with just 2 days of rest as the team is trying anything to put together a string of victories. They are looking to take 3 out of 4 against Midland. Danny would pitch well but would tire and be taken out in the 7th with the team up 4-1. They would go on to win 5-1 and Danny would get his 9th win of the season. In the win: 6.1 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-7 with a 3.35 ERA. Portland Calling After the win Danny would get a call from the manager. He is told that he will be called up to AAA to play for Portland. The news is music to his ears as he is now just one step away from the big show. His AA numbers for the season: 9-7, 3.35 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 126.1 innings, 113 hits, 49 runs, 47 earned, 3 homeruns allowed, 48 walks, 88 strikeouts and opponents hit .236. July 17 Danny starts his AAA career on the road against Sacramento. In the firs ttwo innings he would allow 2 runners each inning but pitch out of trouble. In the third inning he would allow two more runners but this time the next batter would launch a ball deep into the stand for a 3 run homerun and a 3-0 lead. He would pitch into the 6yth where he would allow another run to make it 4-1. Sacramento would go on to win 4-2 as Danny would not have a stellar debut. In the loss: 5.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 5 walks, 4 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 6.35 after his debut. July 22 Danny's home debut against Tacoma. Danny turned it around and went 7 strong innings as he left the game with a 5-0 lead. Portland went on to win 7-2 and increase their already large lead in the division. Another wonderful thing about being promoted has been going from a team struggling to a team that is being dominant and a leading contender for post season play in the league. In the win: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 2.84. More starts like this could be just what the doctor ordered. July 27 Portland heads to Tucson for Danny's next start. Danny would be involved in a pitcher's and leave afte 8 with a 1-0 lead. Their closer would blow a save for just the second time this season int he 9th and the game would be tied at 1 after 9. 21 year old cenerfielder Daniel Graham would double home the go ahead run in the 11th and the team would hold on for the 2-1 win. In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 1-1 but his ERA has dropped to 1.74. He has not allowed a run in his last two starts for a total of 15 innings.

Danny would throw another fine perfomance as he goes 8 and leaves with a 4-1 lead. The team would hold and win the game 4-1. In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He is now 2-1 with an ERA of 1.26. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts. August 6 Portland travels to Salt Lake City and Danny hits a slight bump in the road. Danny would not look good and leave in the 6th leading 8-6 but Salt Lake City would score 2 more runs to tie the game 8-8. Portland would, however, score twice more for a 10-8 win. In the no decision: 5.2 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 6 earned, 6 walkd and 4 strikeouts. He is 2-1 with a 2.62 ERA. August 11 Home against Las Vegas and Danny returns to form. He leaves with 1 out in the 8th and 2 men on but with a 3-0 lead. A 1 pitch double play ends that inning and they hold in the 9th for the 3-0 win. Portland's offense would shine as they put 11 on the board in the 1st inning on the way to a HUGE 22-3 win. August 24 Danny would go on 3 days rest as they play at Colorado Springs. He would do well enough to leave with a 5-4 lead and they go on to a 9-4 win. August 29 With the team having clinched the playoffs they now host Salt Lake City as they can play out the remainder of the season to prepare for the playoffs. Danny would pitch just 2 innigns and leave after 2 innings with a noticable limp. The team would go on to win 8-5. In the no decision: 2.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. He was 5-0 with a 2.45 ERA in the month. September 9 Danny returns to the rotation as the team travels to Tucson. Danny would pitch well enough to get the win as he would leave in the 8th with a 3-2 lead and the team would go on to win 5-2. In the win: 7.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 7-1 with an ERA of 2.24. September 14 Danny's final regular season start will be at Fresno. This will not be th eway Danny wants the end his AAA regular season, however, ad he only makes it into the 6th and leaves trailiing 6-3 which becomes the final score. In the loss: 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is 7-2 with an ERA of 2.67. Post Season Begins Portland faces Las Vegas in the first round of the playoffs (a best of 5 series). They win the first two games easily and send Danny to the moung in the 3rd game to try to move on. September 19 Danny takes the mound at Las Vegas looking to wrap up the series. Portland would get a run in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead and that would be all that Danny needed as he threw one of the best games of his career. He would go the distance in a 4-0 shutout victory to wrap up the series. In the win: 9.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. His ground out to fly out ratio was 13-6 and he had a near 2:1 strike to ball ratio. Memphis Series Luck may be running out for Portland, or they just ran into a hotter team. Memphis takes the first two games of the series (a best of seven series) at Portland to take a 2-0 lead as they head back to Memphis. Danny is up for game three. September 24 Danny would go just 6 innings and pitch okay. Portland would put two on the board to tie the game in the top of the 7th to get him off the hook. The game would remain tied until the Portland closer would walk home the winning run for Memphis in a 3-2 final as they now trail 3-0 in the series. In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 1-0 in the playoffs and his ERA is 0.60. Hopes alive Portland would win the next two games at Memphis, both by scores of 4-2 to cut the series to 3-2. The team now returns to Portland and Danny will take the mound in game 6. September 28 Portland scores 2 runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. After breezing through the first two innings Danny would struggle in the 3rd and allow 4 runs as Memphis ties the game. Danny would leave in the 5th and be charged with 7 runs. Memphis would tag on 3 more after he would leave. Portland would cut the lead to 10-8 heading into the bottom of the 9th. After a leadoff double a pair of ground outs bring home th erun to make it 10-9 with 2 outs. The next batter would take a bug swing at the first pitch and pop it up in the infield to lead to Memphis' celebration and title. In the loss: 4.1 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs, 5 earned, 5 walks and 1 strikeout. He was 1-1 in the postseason with an ERA of 2.79. 2008 AAA Numbers His final regular season AAA numbers: 7-2, 2.67, 12 games, 12 starts, 77.2 innings, 63 hits, 26 runs, 23 earned, 2 homeruns allowed, 39 walks, 56 strikeouts and opponents hit .220.

He is becoming wuite popular with the fans of the team, especially after the team has struggled and fallen well below .500 the last few seasons. He remains in AAA with Portland as the 2009 season begins. April 9 Opening day for Portland as they travel to Salt Lake City. Danny looks to be the ace of the staff and will get the nod for the opener. Danny is in and out of trouble all day and leaves in the 7th with an 8-4 lead. The bullpen blows the game as they allow 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it at 4 and send the game to extra innings. Portland manufactures a run in the 11th for the 9-8 win. In the no decision: 6.1 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He starts the season 0-0 with an ERA of 5.68. April 14 The team returns home to host Las Vegas on a cool spring evening. Danny was pitching well in the 7th and held an 8-2 lead when he felt an incredible pain in his arm while throwing a pitch. He grabbed his arm and collapsed to the ground as the manager and trainer sprinted out to see what was wrong. The team would to on to win 13-2 but that was secondary to seeing Danny in obviously severe pain. In the win: 6.2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is 1-0 with an ERA or 3.46. The verdict Danny would suffer a torn bicep and his season would be over. He was surgery the next day and has been told by the doctors that it may be severe enough to keep him from pitching again. The diagnosis would send Danny into a trememdous depression for the next several weeks as he feels what could be his dream life slipping away from him. Only time will now tell if he can come back and if he can ever be what it looks like he was going to be. 2009 AAA Numbers 1-0, 3.46, 2 games, 2 starts, 13.0 innings, 10 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 6 walks, 11 strikeouts and opponents hit .217. Portland would again have a good season and make the playoffs. They would also again fall to Memphis in the championship, also 4 games to 2.

EagleFan Hall Of Famer Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Mays Landing, NJ USA	Spring Training 2010: The Rehab Danny would emain in AAA and work out with Portland as the year begins. His road to recovery has been a long one and he has really impressed doctors with the determination he showed to try to return to form. Early in the spring it is still uncertain if he can return to what he once was as his pitches aren't quite as lively as they once were. Much of that seemed to be psychological as it seemed to some that he was holding back while throwing, understandable since it was throwing that led to the injury. He will remain with Portland and he started to show enough by the end of spring trainnig for the manager to declare him as the opening day starter. This gave fans of both Portland and their parent club the Padres a lot of hope as he has quickly become a fan favorite for both his potential and the determination that he showed getting back to what looks to be close to where he once was.

Danny receives a standing ovation as he take the mound for his return. Danny strikes out th efirst batter that he faces and the crowd erupts with emotion as it looks like he is truly back. Danny makes quick work of Las Vegas the first two innings and is rewarded as Portland scores 3 in the bottom of the 2nd. The score remains 2-0 until the 8th when Danny gets into a little trouble and allows 2 runs but strikes out the last batter of the inning. He is replaced by the closer for the 9th inning who shuts Las Vegas down for the 3-2 win. It is a very succesful return. In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 2.25. April 13 Porland travels to Colorado Springs for Danny's return part two. Danny shines in the game as he goes 8 innings and does not allow a run. He leaves with a 2-0 lead but the closer does not hold the lead this time and the team goes on to fall 4-3 in 11 innings. In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA. So far it seems like they gave him a bionic arm in that operation. April 18 Another road game, this time at Sacramento. Danny would allow a homerun in the 3rd to cut the lead to 2-1 after Portland had scored twice in the first inning. He would go on to pitch into the 8th but allow 2 unuearned rund in the 8th before coming out with the game tied 3-3. Portland would go on to win 5-4 in 11 innings. In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 1-0 and his ERA is now 1.14. April 23 Another road game for Portland as they travel to Fresno. Danny would have a no hitter through 5 before giving up a couple hits in the the 6th but would pitch out of that jam. He would pitch into the 8th and leave the game with 2 men on and leading 2-0. The bullpen would shut Fresno down for the 2-0 win as Danny has really started to show what he can do. Even coming back from an injury he looks like a mean among boys so far. In the win: 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 with an ERA of 0.87 in his 4 starts. Can I see you please? The day after the Fresno game Danny's manger would call him and ask to speak to him in person. When they met there was a huge smile on the manger's face. He told Danny that it has been a joy watching him come back from that injury and he would love to keep him for the season theway he has pitched. ...but... The Padres have called and feel it is time for him to join the big club. He is to report to San Diego for assignment. The manger wished him all the best and told him to just keep doing what he does best, keep the hitters off balance and out-think them. He will be watching, and the fans of Portland will be watching. Danny was overcome with joy but did feel a little sad that he could not get to pitch one more game in front of the Portland fans after all the support they showed him when coming back from the injury. April 27 61 degrees in San Diego, cloudy and the wind blowing in. Danny took it all in as he runs out to take the mound in his MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT. He still cannot belive it but knows he has to show what he can do and this is what he has prepared for his entire "baseball career" so far. His debut will be against the last place Arizono Diamondbacks. Danny would get the first batter that he faces to ground out. The next batter would single and then move to second on a wild pitch. Danny then caught the runner sleeping and picked him off second for the second out of the inning. That would prove to be a good thing as the next batter ripped a single to center. Danny would then strikout slugger Mike Taylor to end his first professional inning of work. With the game still scoreless in the 3rd Danny would get his first professional at bat. He would make contact on the first pitch but ground out back to the pitcher. He would pitch out of trouble in the 4th with runners at the corners and 2 outs but he would get a harmless ground out to end the inning and keep the game scoreless. It would remain scoreless as he comes to the plat in the bottom of the 6th with one out and after 2 called strikes and a foul ball he would ground out to shortstop. Danny would continue to sail through the lineup, including a 5 pitch 1-2-3 8th inning and would still be on the hill in the 9th in a scoreless game. After getting a ground out and a fly out for the first two outs he would face first baseman Jason Mosely (doesn't hit for average but has been good for 30+ homeruns a season). The at bat would be a 10 pitch at bat that led to a walk. Before Danny threw another pitch he would catch Mosely napping at first and pick him off to end the 9th. Danny would be pinch hit for in the bottom of the 9th and the Padres would get runners at 1st and 2nd with one out but would not be able to bring home the winning run. The game remained scoreless until the 12th when Arizone would score one to go up 1-0. In the bottom of the 12th the first two men would be retired but a walk would bring the potential winning run to the plate in the name of left fielder Tom Kaiser. He would wast little time in getting his 2nd homerun of the season and winning the game 2-1 in 12 innings. In the no decision, major league debut: 9.0 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He begins 0-0 with an ERA of 0.00. At the plate he was 0 for 2.

He would also single in a run in the 6th to give him 2 hits and 2 RBI's for the game. In the win: 8.0 innings, 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 1.05. He was also 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBI's and 2 strikeouts. May 8 Back hom to host the Chicago Cubs and the Padres continue their fine play as they win their 6th straight with another big offensive outburst. The final is 11-3 and Danny collects another victory. In the win: 7.0 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 with an ERA of 1.88. At the plate he was 0 for 3 but he did score a run. May 13 The Padres host Milwaukee as they hope to gain some ground on division leading Colorado who lost earlier in the day. Danny coasts through 7 with a 6-0 lead but gets in trouble in the 8th and allows 4 runs. He leaves with a 6-4 lead and the team hangs on for the 6-4 win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Danny is now 3-0 with an ERA of 2.53. He was 0 for 2 at the plate with a sacrifice. May 17 On the road to play at Arizona and Danny would have his shortest Major League outing lasting just into the 6th inning. His pitch count was up and he was in a little troubel in the 6th and would leave trailing 1-0. Arizona would go on to win 3-0 and give Danny his first loss. May 23 The Padres play an interleague game at Seattle. Danny would pitch okay into the 8th inning but a key error and one bad hanging pitch in which he gave up a homerun for the first time in the majors would lead to him allowing 5 runs and leave with the team trailing 5-4. The Padres would score 4 in the top of the 9th and win the game 8-5 getting Danny off the hook. In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 8 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.60. If he keeps pitching this well he will cement a spot on the roster and may begin hearing rookie of the year talk. May 29 The Padres return home to host the Cardinals. Danny would pitch well but 2 errors by the Padres would lead to 2 runs, one unearned, and the Padres bats would be silenced in a 2-0 loss. In the loss: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 3-2 with an ERA of 2.38. He was 0 for 2 at the plate. Early Recap The Padres were a game under .500 and in 3rd place in the division when Danny was called up. Now they are in 2nd and are 6 games over .500. They travel on the road to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates, who are struggling this season. Danny would give the team a much needed spark as he would not allow a hit until the 5th inning and go the distance in a 5-0 victory as he records his first career complete game and first career shutout. In the win: 9.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He improves to 4-2 with an ERA of 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 4. June 10 The Padres continue to struggle after Danny;s performance as they travel to Milwaukee with Danny taking the mound. Milwaukee enters the game in a tie for their division lead and playing good ball as of late (winning 7 of their last 10). Danny would pitch into the 7th but after a throwing error by Danny would lead to the Brewers scoring twice in the 7th and taking a 5-3 lead he would be taken out. That would be the final and Danny would get the loss. In the loss: 6.2 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He is now 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 run scored, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. June 16 The Padres would turn it around a little and Danny would get the call as they host the Los Angleles Dodgers. Danny would have a tough act to follow as he now follows ace Danny Hawkins in the rotation who would just come off picking up his 11th victory of the season (11-2, 2.14). Danny would pitch okay but a mistake in the 2nd would lead to a homerun to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead and that would be all they would need, though they added 2 more runs for a 3-0 final. In the loss: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 4-4 with an ERA of 2.35. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. June 23 Danny would get a couple extra days off before his next start as they travel to play at Texas in another inter-league game. The Padres are are back to just 4 games over .500 and can't seem to climb past 6 over .500. With the team in need of a big game, Danny delievers. He throws one mistake that ends up as a solo homerun in the stands in the 5th but they would be leading 5-1 at that point and go on to win 8-1. Danny would go the distance for his second complete game. In the win: 9.0 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walksm 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He improves to 5-4 with an ERA of 2.21. June 29 They host Oakland as they are ni the midst of a nice stretch as they have won 5 games in a row. They trail the Rockies by 10 games but lead the wild card race by 2 games over Arizona. It looks like no-one will catch the Rockies at this point they way they have played this season. Danny shines yet again as he goes the distance for the third time this season ans second time in a row in a 5-0 shutout victory. Danny would have a no hitter for 6.2 innings before giving up a 2 out single in the 7th. Fans are starting to look ahead with great hope as they already have an ace in the 27 year old Hawkins and having a potential 1-2 combination of Hawkins and Silver could be something special. In the win: 9.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He imprives to 6-4 with an ERA of 2.00. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with a sacrifice. Monthly Recap The Padres end the month with a loss and are 45-35 after June. They are now 11 games behind the Rockies in the division but still lead the Diamondbacks by 2 games in the wild card. He would pitch well and leave the game after 8 with a 3-2 lead but the closer would blow the save in the 9th and the games headed to extra innings. The Giants would rally for 4 runs in the 10th and win the game 7-3. In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is still 6-4 with an ERA of 2.02. He was also 1 for 2 with a double at the plate. July 9 The Padres travel to Washington for the last series before the all-star break. Danny would get hit around in the 5th inning, though 2 errors in the inning did not help, and leave though the team still had a 6-4 lead at the time. The Padres went on to win 12-7 but Danny did not pitch 5 innings so he got the no decision. In the no decision: 4.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned, 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. He remains 6-4 with an ERA of 2.02. At the plate he was 0 for 3. All-Star Time Padres fans felt that Danny got overlooked as he was not named to the all-star team. To be fair he is dominating the rookies but tehre are several vets who have played all season and have impressive numbers. At the break the Padres are 10.5 games behind the Rockies (who have the best record in the Majors) in the NL West. They still lead the wild card race as the Brewers are now one game back. July 18 Danny gets the call in the the final game of their series at home against the Braves (who are 24 games below .500) looking to sweep their first series after the all-star break. In the bottom of the 3rd the Padres would put up a 3-spot and that would be all they would need. Danny would go 8 strong and leave with a 3-1 lead. They would win 3-2 after allowing a run in the top of the 9th but getting out of trouble. In the win: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 7-4 with a 1.96 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a sacrifice. July 23 The Padres would struggle following Danny's last start and now travel to San Francisco to play the Giants. Danny is looking to provide some kind of spark so they don't fall too far back in the wild card race. The game would be tied at 2 when he left but the bullpen would give up 4 runs in the 8th on the way to a 6-3 loss. In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Facing him is one of Colorado's good young arms Mark Morgan (10-3, 3.48). Danny would be given a run in the top of the first but would struggle and last just 4 innings, leaving trailing 4-1. The Rockies would go on to a 9-6 win but not before the Padres would tie the game at 4 and get Danny off the hook. In the no decision: 4.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He remains 8-4 and his ERA jumps back over 2 to 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 1. August 6 With the team still struggling they return home to host Washington who enters the game 19 games under .500. Danny would pitch a solid 8 innings and get aided by 10 runs in a 10-4 win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-4 with a 2.04 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 4. August 12 The Padres are now on a roll as they play at the New York Mets, who lead the NL East by 7.0 games (Ed: where have we heard that before?). Danny would go 7 strong innings before being pinch hit for in the 8th with a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would give up 2 in the bottom of the 8th and the Padres would fail to score in the 9th for the 4-3 loss. The blown save would cost Danny a chance at his 10th win of the season. In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 5 walks, 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 9-4 and his ERA is now 2.07. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout. August 17 Back to San Diego to host San Francisco. The Giants are floundering at 2 games below .500 and have not been playing well as of late. Danny tries for the 2nd time to pick up with 10th victory. Danny would struggle mightily with his control and not last through the 4th inning. He would leave the game trailing 5-1 but the PAdres would tie the game in the 5th before going on to lose 8-6. In the no decision: 3.2 innings, 3 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 7 walks and 4 strikeouts. While remaining 9-4 his ERA has now jumped to 2.25. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout and he would commit 2 throwing errors. This is a game that he definitely wants to forget. Following the game his manager would call him into the office. He felt his heart skip a beat as he worried that the performance was going to get him demoted. His worries would be completely without merit as the manger wanted to talk to him about putting today behind him and to not worry about this affecting his status with the team. August 22 The Padres remain at homs against Arizona. Both teams have been struggling over the past week. Danny makes attempt number 3 at getting his 10th win. Danny would last just 5 innings and leave the game after injurying his leg on a ground ball right back at him in the 5th. He made the play to end the inning but would be limping back to the dugout. The Padres would trail 2-1 as he left and that would go on to be the final score. In the loss: 5.0 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 9-5 with an ERA of 2.30. Danny was 0 for 1 at the plate. The doctors would shut him down for at lest a week, maybe two with what was diagnosed as a knee injury, but doctors would not specify the extent of the injury except to say that it was not serious. Monthly Recap The Padres would be 15-13 in August and gain a little on Colorado who seems to be coasting. They are now 72-60 and are 8.5 games behind the Rockies. Good news is that the late surge over the past week and half has now put them 2.0 games ahead of the Dodgers in the wild card. Danny is 2nd in the NL in ERA (2.30), tied for 1st in shutouts (2), 2nd in hits allowed per 9 innings (6.43), 4th in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.29) and 2nd in opponents batting average (.199). Among rookies he is 1st in ERA, tied for 1st in wins, 5th in starts, 3rd in innings pitched, 1st in shutouts, 1st in hits allowed per 9 innings, 1st in homeruns allowed per 9 innings, 2nd in strikeouts, 2nd in strikeouts per 9 innings and 1st in opponents average.

I should be back home this weekend and Danny's career will continue (but probably not until I have gotten a little of my life back).

Though he would pile up a good number of strikeouts he would not have his best stuff and only last 5 innings, leaving trailing 4-2. The Rockeis would roll to a 9-4 win to hand Danny the loss. Danny would again come up empty in search of win number 10. In the loss: 5.0 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 9-6 with an ERA of 2.45. At the plate he was 0 for 1. September 12 With the team on a 3 game win streak and now 2.5 games up in the wild card standings they travel to San Francisco to face the Giants who are right at .500 and trail the Padres by 5.5 in the standings. Danny makes his 5th attempt to get into double digits in wins. After getting 2 runs in the first inning Danny would find himself in trouble in the 3rd and allow the Giants to take a 3-2 lead. Though he struggled with his control he would manage to last 7 innings and leave with a 4-3 lead. The bullpen would fail him in the 8th and allow the tying run to score before the Padres would get a run in the 9th to win 5-4. Another attempt at win number 10 comes up unsuccessful. In the no-decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. He is still 9-6 and his ERA is now 2.51. At the plate he was 0 for 3. September 18 With the Padres leading in the wild card race by 2.5 games but on a 2 game slide Danny will take the mound against the Dodgers, who are 5.5 behind San Diego in the race. Danny now goes after win number 10 for the 6th time. Danny would turn in a strong outing as he would go 7 innings but leave trailing 1-0 as the Padres would lose their 3rd straight by a final of 4-0. They loss drops the Padres lead in the wild card to just 1.5 games and leaves Danny wondering if he will ever get that elusive 10th win. In the loss: 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 9-7 and his ERA drops a bit to 2.46. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout. His .078 average doesn't exactly make him feared at the plate. September 23 With 11 games remaining the Padres cling to a 2.5 game lead in the wild card race. Danny takes the mound as the Padres face the Diamondbacks who trail them by 6 games. This makes Danny's 7th attempt at win number 10. Danny would pitch into the 8th but leave with the game tied 2-2 but responsible for the runners on base. One pitch by the reliever is all it would take to get him off the hook for the runners and give him a no decision as the Diamondbacks would eventually win 4-2 in 15 innings. In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He remains 9-7 and his ERA is now 2.45. At the plate Danny was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt. September 28 With 6 games left in the season the Padres head to St. Louis with a 4 game lead in the wild card race and nearing clinching a playoff spot. Danny takes the mound in yet another attempt to get his 10th victory of his rookie season. Danny would struggle with his control and last only into the 6th inning but would leave with a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would fail him again and give up the tying run in the 8th and the Cardinals would go on to a 4-3 victory in 14 innings. There may be one more chance for him to get win number 10 this season. In the no decision: 5.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 9-7 and his ERA is now 2.43. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout. Monthly Recap The Padres would go just 13-14 in September but thanks to the other wild card contenders falling off they would clinch the wild card on the final day of September as they are now 85-74 with the final 3 games of the season remaining. Danny is 3rd in the NL in ERA (2.43), tied for 1st in shutouts (2), 1st in hits allowed per 9 innings (6.58), 3rd in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.33) and 1st in opponents average (.202). Danny may be starting to press a bit to get the number 10. The game starts out well for Danny as he is given an early 5-0 lead and seems to be coasting up until the 7th inning when he gives up a 4 spot but remains in the game clinging to a 5-4 lead. In the 8th it all comes appart as he leaves the game with one out and one man on and the reliever gives up a homerun to the first batter he faces as they lose 6-5 and he gets a no decision. In the no decision: 7.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He ends the season at 9-7 with an ERA of 2.53. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts as he ends the season hitting .070. Playoffs Begin The Padres will face the Central Division champion St. Louis Cardinals in the opening round of the playoffs. The other NL series sees the Rockies facing the Mets. In the AL the Yankees face the Tigers and the Rangers face the Royals. The Cardinals would win the first two games of the series at home and put the Padres backs up against the wall. The Padres would in turn win their two games at San Diegoe to force a game 5 at St. Louis. The Padres would jump to an early 5-0 lead and win the game 5-1 to advance to the NLCS. Danny would warm up int he pen in one of the games but never see any action in the series. [/b]NLCS[/b] The Padres face the Mets in the NLCS. In the AL it is the Yankees and the Royals who battle for the right to play for the title. Game one would see the Mets score 7 runs in the first two innings of the Padres ace and coast to a 16-3 win. Danny would not see any action in the game and is getting frustrated about not being able to help the team. Game two would be a close 3-2 win for the Mets as they would score 3 early and hold on for the win. The Padres would put a man on base in the 9th but not be able to get him past 1st. Fans are now beginning to question why Danny has not seen any action at all. The Padres would lead game three 2-1 in the top of the 8th until a 2 run homerun by pinch hitter Jesus Robles would give the Mets a 3-2 lead. The Padres would fail to get a base runner in their final two innings and lose 3-2. They now trail 3-0 in the series. In game 4 the Padresace Jason Hawkins would throw a 2 hit shutout in a 5-0 win to keep the Padres alive in the series. Danny would be given word that he would get the call in game 5. Game 5 - NLCS With the Padres trailing th Mets 3-1 in the NLCS, Danny will finally get his first action of the playoffs as he gets the nod for the start. Danny enters the game figuring that there is not really pressure on him as they trailed 3-0 at one point and were already pegged as the losing team in the series so anything now is just cake. The first three innings would go well and the score would be 0-0 heading into the top of the 4th. With 2 outs and a runner on first Danny would face opposing pitcher Miguel Ramirez. After falling behind 3-0 Danny would try to groove a fastball to get a strike but Ramirez would be waiting on hit and put it into the seats in left field for a 2 run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th the Padres would put 2 on the board to tie the game. In the 5th with 2 outs and no-one on Danny would make anothe rmistake to left fielder Javier Green who would deposit this one much farther into the seats for the 3-2 lead. Danny would recover and get through the next two innings before being taken out for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th trailing 3-2. The Padres would not mount any attack and go on to lose 3-2 for the game and 4-1 for the series. In the loss: 7.0 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and 2 homeruns allowed. He was 0-1 with an ERA of 3.86 in the playoffs. At the plate he was 0 for 2. EagleFan Hall Of Famer Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Mays Landing, NJ USA	Spring Training 2011: Fitting In Spring 2011 Danny gets his first start of spring training in the team's second game as they host the Phillies. He would get a no decision and go just 4 innings in his first tune up of the spring. He would look sharp and allow just 3 hits and no runs while walking just one and striking out 3. The team would go on to win 1-0 on a 2 out hit in the bottom of the 9th. anny would injure his back in training and get just 4 starts during the month. He would end up 2-0 in spring training with an ERA of 2.35. He is showing the team a lot of promise thus far and has fans anticipating a very good season if he pairs up with the reigning Cy Young winner Jason Hawkins for a very strong top of the rotation. Spring would end on a very positive note for Danny as he would be placed as the number two man in the rotation. This means that a lot is expected but it also gives him a chance to shine (or fade under the pressure).

The game starts out well as Danny is the benefactor of 4 second inning runs. He would coast until the 5th when he would get hit around for 3 runs but remain in the game. After the Padres scored 3 more to take a 7-3 lead in the top of the 6th he would have a scoreless inning and take a 7-3 lead into the 7th. The bottom of the 7th would not start out well as an error on shortstop Kee Mao would open lead to Danny being pulled with 1 out and an unearned run in already but he would be responsible for 2 runners. Both would score after the second out for two more unearned runs but the inning would end with them up 7-6. The Padres would score another in the 8th to make it 8-6 and hang on for an 8-7 win as Danny gets the win. In the win: 6.1 innings, 9 hits, 6 runs, 3 earned, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. He is now 1-0 with an ERA of 4.16. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 2 strikeouts and a sacrifice bunt. April 11 Danny's second start of the season is back at home as they now host the San Francisco Giants. The Padres are coming off losing a series 2 games to 1 to the defending NL West champions, the Rockies. Danny would look strong in his 7 innings of work before being taken out for a pinch hitter buy his pitch count would get a little high. He leaves the game leading 2-1, which becomes 4-1 as the pinch hitter he was pulled for hits a 2 run homerun and that would be the final score to give him the win. In the win: 7.0 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is now 2-0 and his ERA is 2.03. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout. April 16 With the team off to a good start and following up another wuality start by ace Hawkins; Danny takes the mound at Los Angeles against the Dodgers, who are struggling early and are 0-4 at home so far this season. Danny would face the brunt of the frustration of the Dodgers as they would get to him early and he would only last 4 innings. They woudl trail 6-2 when he would be pulled on the way to a 9-4 loss. In the loss: 4.0 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 2-1 with an ERA of 4.15. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt. April 21 After Hawkins ended the team's brief skid with a win against the Diamondbacks, it's now Danny's turn to attempt to get back on track. Danny would get his game back on track and have a shutout into the 9th inning before allowing 2 runs and not quite getting the complete game. He would get the win in a 10-2 route. In the win: 8.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 3-1 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 RBI (on a fielder's choice), 1 strikeout and 1 sacrifice bunt. April 27 After an off day Danny gets the call at Arizona. The Padres are currently second in the divisoin and lead the Diamondbacks by 2.5. Danny would pitch well and last into the 8th but leave with the game tied at 2. The Diamondbacks would go on to win 3-2 in 13 innings. In the no decision: 7.2 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is still 3-1 but his ERA has dipped below 3 to 2.94. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a sacrifice. Monthly Recap The Padres end the month cooled off a bit and only have a 12-12 record after the opening month. They are in second place in the NL West but trail the red hot Rockies by 6 games. Danny is tied for 6th in the NL for walks (not a good thing) and that is the only category that he currently finds himself in the leder board for.

Danny pitches into the 7th and leaves with a 2-0 lead and a man on with one out. The reliever throws a double play ball and th ePOadres go on to a 3-0 win. In the win: 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He is now 4-1 with an ERA of 2.48. At the plate he was 0 for 2 and is still looking for his first hit of the season. May 7 With the team on a bit of a roll they travel to Florida to face the Marlins who are looking to get back to .500. Danny does not have one of his better outings but does enough to get the win in a 10-4 route. He also manages to pick up his first hit of the season with a 1 out double in the second inning. In the win: 7.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts and 2 homeruns allowed. He improves to 5-1 and his ERA is now 2.83. At the plate he was 1 for 4 with a 1 double, 1 run batted in and 1 strikeout. May 12 The Padres are now at Atlanta looking to salvage a split against the last place Braves. After losing the first two games of a 4 game series they have won the third behind their ace Hawkins and now hope to managge a split with Danny on the hill. Danny finds himself in the middle of a pitcher's duel as the game remains scoreless through 7 innings before he is pulled for a pinch hitter with 1 out and 2 men on in the top of the 8th. The pinch hitter promptly grounds into a double play to end the inning and the reliever gives up a homerun to the first batter he faces in the bottom of the 8th to give the Braves the 1-0 win. In the no decision: 7.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He remains 5-1 and his ERA drops to 2.47. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout and a sacrifice bunt. May 17 The Padres have been struggling since the Atlanta series and now are below .500 in need of a win to get back to sea level. The have wild card leader Cincinnati in town and are hoping to keep themselves within range. Danny throws what is currently the best game of his short major league career as he goes the distance in a 4-0 shutout victory. He sets a career high with 11 strikeouts while allowing just 4 baserunners and not one reaching second. In the win: 9.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. He is now 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 4 with a strikeout, dropping his season average to .048. May 24 After sitting out a couple days with minor back pain Danny returns to action at home against the Cubs. Danny does not have his best stuff today and lasts just 6 innings and leaves with his team trailing 4-1 en route to a 10-2 loss. In the loss: 6.0 innings, 11 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He is now 6-2 and his ERA is now 2.45. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout. May 29 With the Padres back to one game under .500 Danny takes the mound against the Brewers. The Padres offense has been struggling as of late and may need a great performance from Danny to get them by. Danny struggles early and comes out with a sore back in the 3rd inning with the team trailing 2-0. They would go on to lose 7-2 and Danny would get the loss. In the loss: 2.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. He is now 6-3 with an ERA of 2.63. He did not get a plate appearance in the game. After the game he would be looked at by team doctors and they said he shouldn't be out for more than a week, at the most. Monthly Recap The Padres struggle in May and have just a 13-14 record as the now sit at 25-26 and are already 9.5 games behind the Rockies, though they are still in 2nd in the division. They now trial the Brewers by 5 games in the wild card race. The team's major problems are a lock of offense and no starting picthing behind Hawkins (7-0, 1.39) and Danny (6-3, 2.63) no matter how dominating Hawkins has been and Danny could be. Danny is currently 6th in the NL in ERA, tied for 4th in wins and tied for 1st in shutouts.

Danny would be monitored closely and on a low pitch count. He would not look sharp at all and only last 3 innings and would leave trailing 4-0. The Dodgers would never lose the lead and hang on for a 5-4 win, handing Danny his 4th loss of the season. In the loss: 3.0 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Danny drops to 6-4 and his ERA is now 3.00. He did not have a plate appearance in the game. June 14 As interleague play continues and the Padres travel to Tampa Bay to take on the recently hot Devil Rays Danny will try to right his shipt and the team's as they are now 2 games under .500 and not playing well. He will face the Devil Ray's 26 year old ace Arthur Hernandez (7-3, 3.02). Hernandez has gotten at least 18 wins in each of the past 3 seasons. Danny would pitch well and last 8 innings with teh score tied at 2 after 8 innings. The Padres would put 3 on th eboard in the top of the 9th and go on to win 5-2, giving Danny wht win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 7-4 with an ERA of 2.93. With DH rules in affect he did not come to the plate and the team was none the worse for it. June 19 The team is still struggling, now 3 under .500, and are on the road against the Cubs. The Cubs are 2 games over .500 and are one of the seemingly ever growing list of teams that are ahead of the Padres in the wild card standings. Danny would get rocked and not even last through the 3rd inning as it would be 7-0 when he would leave and two more would score to make it 9-0 after the 3rd inning. The final would be a 12-4 loss. In the loss: 2.1 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned, 0 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 homerun allowed. He is now 7-5 and his ERA jumps to 3.48. HE was 0 for 1 at the plate before coming out. June 22 With Danny coming off a very short outing he was given a quick turn around before his next start. The manager want him to get back to pitching and stop thinking about his recent troubles at it seems to be in his head constantly now. The team plays at home against the Orioles. Sadly Danny lasts again only into the 3rd inning and gets blasted for 5 runs and leaves trailing 5-0 on the way to a 5-2 loss. In the loss: 2.2 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He drops to 7-6 with an ERA of 3.89. He did not have an at bat in the game. June 26 With the team struggling at 8 games under .500 they host the Red Sox who lead the AL wild card race. People are starting to question if Danny could use a few starts in AAA to get his head back on straight. While he would last 6 and look good in 5 of the 6 innings, in the other he would allow 4 runs and leave the game trailing 4-0. The Red Sox would build th elead to 6-0 and hang on for a 6-5 win. In the loss: 6.0 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 7-7 with and ERA of 4.02. He was 0 for 1 at the plate. Monthly Recap The Padres struggled during June with a record of 11-16. The are now 36-42 and are in 4th place in the NL West, 13.5 games behind the division leading Rockies. They are 8th in the wild card race, 8.5 games behind the Brewers. Jason Hawkins (11-1, 1.49) is now the only bright spot on the team (even an amazing season like that can't seem to help the Padres now). Danny is no longer in the leaderboard and has been struggling grealty. Since his shutout on May 17 that improved him to 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA he has now been 1-6 in his last 7 starts and has goen 40.2 innings and allowed 43 hits, 28 runs, 27 earned, walked 14 and struck out just 19. His ERA over the last 7 outings is a lousy 5.98.

Danny looks nearly unhittable for most of the game and the Padres put up 5 runs in the 5th thanks to Danny's first career homerun which was a grand slam and the only hit Danny would allow is a double in the 3rd inning. He would only go 8 innings as errors in the field and a couple walks would lead to 3 unearned runs in the 8th but the Padres would win 9-4. In the win: 8.0 innings, 1 hit, 3 runs, 0 earned, 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. He improves to 8-7 and his ERA drops back below 4 to 3.71. Danny was 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 homerun, 1 run scored and 4 runs batted in. HE seemed to be having fun for the first time in almost a month. July 7 The Padres host the Marlins in their first game after the all-star break and Danny gets the call. San Diego is hoping to keep the momentum as they were on a 5 game winning streak prior to the break. Danny would have just an okay game and leave after 6 innings with the score tied at 4. The Marlins would go on to win 5-4 in 11 innings to break the Padres' winning streak. In the no decision: 6.0 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He remains 8-7 and his ERA is now 3.75. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout and he commited hsi second error of the season in the field. July 12 After the rough series agains the Marlins they are now hosting the Braves, a team that is also struggling below .500. Danny will face their best pitcher as of late, Rory Cook (7-5, 2.92). Danny came out firing and the Padres scored early on the way to a 6-0 win. Danny would go the distance for the shutout. In the win: 9.0 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is now 9-7 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 walk, 1 run scored and 1 sacrifice bunt. He hopes that 10 wins will not be as ellusive as it was in his rookie season. July 19 After a schedling oddity that gave the Padres a couple days off in a row they now play at Arizona and are just 2 games under .500 and hope to keep on their roll. Danny makes his first attempt this season to reach 10 wins. Control issues would chase Danny from the game in the 7th, though he would have allowed just one hit at that time. He would leave with a 7-3 lead and that would be the final score as he would earn his 10th win of the season in his first attempt this time. In the win: 6.1 innings, 1 hit, 3 runs, 3 earned, 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. HE is now 10-7 with an ERA of 3.50. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with 2 sacrifice bunts. July 23 Danny gets the call on 3 days rest as they host the Mets and look to go over .500 for the first time in several weeks. Danny pitched well but left after 8 innings with the game tied at 3. The Mets would go on to win 4-3 in 10 innings. In the no decision: 8.0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He is still 10-7 and his ERA is 3.49. At the plate he was 0 for 3. July 28 As Danny returns to the normal 4 days rest the Padrtes play at the divisoin leading Rockies and look to get back to .500. Danny doesn't have his normal command but looks okay. The problem was the Padres bats as they fall 3-0. In the loss: 7.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks, 0 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He drops to 10-8 with an ERA of 3.51. At the plate he was 0 for 2. Monthly Recap The Padres finished the month on a down note after getting back to .500 but falling back a bit over the last week of the month. They end up 12-11 for the month, now 48-53, but have lost 5 straight to end the month. They are in 3rd place in the NL West, 13.5 behind the diviosn leading Rockies. In the wild card they are 5th and are 11 games behind the Brewers. The post season does not look like a reality for the Padres. The Padres end the month trading for the future as they trade starting pitcher Rafael Peralta to the Yankees for two young minor league infielders and they trade their starting right fielder Angel Hernandex to Arizona for a 20 year old prospect. Danny its tied for 7th in the NL in wins (10) and tied for 1st in shutouts (2).

Danny goes 7 innings and whil allowing 11 hits he does a nice job of pitching out of trouble and leaves with a 4-1 lead and the Padres hang on for the 4-3 win. In the win: 7.0 innings, 11 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. He improves to 11-8 with an ERA of 3.41. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with 1 strikeout and 1 sacrifice bunt. He is now hitting just .050 for the season. August 7 Back home against the Diamondbacks with the team still struggling and now back to 6 games under .500. Danny pitches 8 innings but gives up 4 runs and leaves trailing 4-0. The Padres are unable to score and lose 6-0 after allowing 2 more in the 9th. In the loss: 8.0 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 11-9 with an ERA of 3.40. At the plate he was 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout. August 12 It doesn't get any easier for the team as they travel to St. Louis to face the team with the best record in the National League. The Cardinals are 26 games better than the Padres. Danny would struggle and last just 3 innings and leave witht he game tied at 3. The Padres would battle but find themselves on the wrong end of the 7-6 final as they now drop 10 games under .500. Danny would find himself quite frustrated after the game and would come out and publicly question the franchise and their direction. In the no decision: 3.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He remains 11-9 and his ERA is 3.51. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a strikeout. August 17 With the team in Cincinnati to face the Reds they look to hurt the Reds in their chase of the Brewers for the wild card. Danny would step it up a notch and throw a complete game in a 6-1 win. He would be 3 outs away from a shutout before allowing a run in the 9th, before retiring the next three batters for the complete game victory. In the win: 9.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. He improves to 12-9 with an ERA of 3.38. At the plate he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, 1 run scored, 1 RBI and 1 strikeout. August 22 Home against the Astros, a team with even more troubles than the Padres. Danny goes 8 strong innings and allows just 1 unearned run as he leaves with a 3-1 lead. The closer retires the Astros in order in the 9th for the 3-1 win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. He is now 13-9 with an ERA of 3.22. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 strikeout. August 27 The Padres travel to play at the NL East leading Mets while having won 7 of their last 10, a minor positive for the club. Danny still is not happy with the season and with the team. He has seemed to distance himself from the club a bit, and his team-mates. Danny does not have his best stuff but lasts 6 innings and leaves with a 5-3 lead. The Padres never lose the lead and go on to win 9-7. In the win: 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He improves to 14-9 with an ERA of 3.26. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with a strikeout. After the game the press tries to stir things up a bit and ask him several loaded questions but he does a good job of not giving them anything to print, though he is still clearly upset. Monthly Recap Despite their top two starters being a combined 30-13 (Danny 14-9 and Jason Hawkins 16-4) the PAdres still find themselves at just 63-66. They do finish August with a record of 15-13 and get back to within 3 games of .500 after dropping to 10 under at one point early in August. Danny is tied for 4th in the NL in wins (4), tied for 1st in shutouts (2) and 5th in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.40).

The game starts out fairly well for Danny with the exception of one mistake he made that ended up over the wall for a solo homerun. In the 6th inning with 2 outs and a 3-1 lead Danny would feel his back tighten up while throwing a pitch. The Trainer would come out and Danny would not be able to continue. The Padres would hang on for a 3-2 win. In the win: 5.2 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed. He improves to 15-9 with an ERA of 3.21. At the plate he was 0 for 2. He would be listed as day to day following the game. His next start would depend upon how he responds to the treatment. The early prediction is at least a week to recover; though doctor's may shut him down for two weeks to be safe. September 9 With Danny still feeling stiffness in his back the manager decided to send him out as they play at Arizona. This would not be a good move as he did not look good at all and would leave in the 5th trailing 8-0 in a game they would lose 8-1. In the loss: 4.2 innings, 9 hits, 8 runs, 7 earned, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Danny is now 15-10 with an ERA of 3.46. At the plate he was 0 for 1 with a sacrifice bunt. Following the game Danny would give the press plenty to write about as he ripped into the manager for sending him out there and expressed displeasure with himself for allowing it to happen. September 14 Danny looks for his 16th win of the season but has a tough challenge ahead as they play at the division leading Rockies. Danny comes out and pitches a strong 8 innings and leaves with a 4-1 lead. Closer Alex Lopez notches his 17th save of the season while allowing just 1 walk in the 9th for the 4-1 win. In the win: 8.0 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He is now 16-10 with a 3.37 ERA. At the plate he was 0 for 3 with 1 strikeout. With 20 games remaining he still has an outside chance of reaching 20 wins if he stays healthy as he should get 4 more starts. September 19 On paper this looks like a good game for Danny as the Padres host the San Francisco Giants who have the worst record in the National League. Add the fact that the Giants' starting pitcher is just 3-9 with an ERA near 6 and it looks like a very win-able game. This is one of those games that plays out as it looks on paper. Danny pitches into the 7th and leaves with a 3-1 lead. The Padres would go on to win 6-1. In the win: 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He improves to 17-10 with an ERA of 3.31. At the plate he was 0 for 2. 20 wins still remains an outside possibility. September 24 The day after seeing Jason Hawkins get his 19th win of the season Danny will go for his 18th. This will be a tough matchup as Danny will square off against the Pirates ace Hamiliton Schmidt (17-10, 2.54) as they host Pittsburgh. After giving up a run in the 2nd and a run int eh 3rd inning to fall behind 2-0 Danny would settle down. In the bottom of the 3rd the Padres would put 4 runs up to take a 4-2 lead. Danny would pitch into the 8th inning and leave with a 7-2 lead. Tha would become the final score as Danny notches his 18th victory of the season. In the win: 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He is now 18-10 with an ERA of 3.28. At the plate he was 1 for 3 with a single to raise his average to .092. September 29 Danny looks to tie team-mate Jason Hawkins for the National League lead with his 19th win of the season after Jason had a no decision the previous night to remain at 19. They play at San Francisco and Danny gets to face the same pitcher that he faced the last time the two teams played. Again it looks good on paper. Danny would nearly make history as he retires the first 20 batter that he faces before walking a batter with 2 outs in the 7th inning. After a perfect 8th he takes a no hitter into the bottom of the 9th. The leadoff hitter would fall behind 0-1 but hit a line drive that would fall in front of the left fielder to break up his no hit bid. He would retire the next three batters to complete the 1 hit shutout and not allow a runner to second base. In the win: 9.0 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He would throw just 100 pitches in the complete game. He improves to 19-10 with an ERA of 3.15. At the plate he was 0 for 4 with 1 sacrifice bunt. Monthly Recap The Padres have a very good month and go 16-12 to move 1 game over .500 at 79-78 with 5 games left to play.The remain in 4th in the NL West, 15 games behind the Rockies, who have clinched the division. In the wild card race they are 8 games behind the Brewers who are nearing clinching. Danny would go 5-1 in September with a 2.63, including the near no-hitter. That would earn him pitcher of the month honors in the National League for September. He is now tied with team-mate Jason Hawkins for the lead in wins in the National League (19), has moved up to 5th in innings pitched (220.1), leads the league in shutouts (3) and is 5th in the league in homeruns allowed per 9 innings (0.37). The previous night saw Jason Hawkins collect his 20th and make him the odds on favorite to win the Cy Young (for the second straight season). Danny's season would not end as he wanted it to as he would get shelled in the first inning and not even make it through the inning for his shortest professional outing. Not one of the pitchers would stop the Brewers as the Padres would fall 17-2. In the loss: 0.2 innings, 4 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He is 19-11 with an ERA of 3.22. He did not get an at bat in the game. Season Recap The Padres finish the season at 82-80 and ni 4th place in the National League West. The Mets, Cardinals and Rockies win their divisions with the Brewers winning the wild card. The Cardinals had a dream season with 115 wins. In the AL the Yankees, Royal and A's win their divisions with the Red Sox winning the wild card. The Cardinals would sweep the Rockies and the Brewers would beat the Mets to give the NL a St. Louis versus Milwaukee LCS. In the AL the Royals beat the Red Sox and the Yankees beat the A's to make the ALCS the Royals versus the Yankees. The Cardinals would be the Brewers 4-2 and the Royals would beat the Yankees 4-3. The World Series would be set as the Royals against the Cardinals. The teams that lead their leagues in wins will face each other for the title. The Cardinals would finish off their dream season with a 4-2 series win over the Royals giving them the title. Jason Hawkins would win the Cy Young with his 20-5 record and 2.13 ERA. Amazingly the Padres would have their top two pitchers combine for a 39-16 record yet only finish at 82-80 and out of the playoffs as the rest of the staff was 43-64.
