Imperial Glory
Been looking at this game for some time now, was curious if anyone had it and what their thoughts are. It appears to be a lot like the Total War series, at least in combat and I loved MTW.

Stick to the total war series. The only things this game has over TW is diplomacy, better battle graphics and a naval battle system. haven't tried any of the mods so they might have improved the game.
Major no-no for me: No epic battles a la TW. Unit sides are WAY to small to convey the sense of Napoleonic warfare. Would have been good to portray the American revolution since unit strenghts were much smaller for both sides but try to imagine Wagram, Waterloo ,Leipzig etc etc with 2000 or so men per side. Blech....Then again maybe the mods do it justice. I gave mine up two weeks after I got it. Wait for IG 2(if ever) or wait for it to hit the bargain bins Company support is virtually non-existant Last edited by Apatheric Lurker : 12-28-2005 at 01:25 PM. |

All the reviews I read also indicated that the game suffered from the classic AI downs syndrom. Total War has also been accused of having less than stellar AI at times, but there are many good mods that have helped in this area; especially Rome: Total Realism.

It was a great war game for pacifists, cos it would convince you of the total futility of war.
Stick two armies up against each other and if they were even remotely close in power, 99% of the winning army would die, 100% of the losing. Try pushing your advantage when you've only got 3 guys left. Maybe that got fixed in the patches, but I'd lost interest by then. |

I picked this up out of the used game bargain bin months ago and never even installed it. If you want it I'll send it to you.

Go with TW. As ShovelMonkey said, there are good mods(RTR,SPQR) for it but bring broadband as the good mods are huge. I have an old school connection(56k) and some of the biggies take 10-15 hrs. If you can pick up M:TW:VI(seen it at Target for 9.99), download the Napoleonic War mod. If you cant find M:TW:VI wait a few months, there is going to be a Napoleonic mod for R:TW. It was a bad execution of a bad idea. Agree with all. The winner isn't at all and, none of the strategic maneuvers or terrain advantages common in the wars can be implemented in this one. Its basically 2 even sized mobs duking it out and, whoever outlasts the other wins.

Actually I think it was a bad execution of a good idea. The developers did all they could to distance themselves from TW. It seems they didn't want any comparisons between the two which we all know is impossible since the market for this type of game is a lot smaller and people buying one will inevitably buy the other and compare. Personally I cant wait for the Napoleonic mod for R:TW. There is also a MP version of the American Revolution for M:TW. I think it's just battles at this stage of development There is another pretty damn good Napoleonic game out there:Crown Of Glory by Matrix Games and they are working on Empires In Arms the computer verison of ADG's board game of the same name |

You are welcome. Normally I wouldn't answer but I'm trying to pad my post count to reach 100 this year. Figured it was time to reach 100 after 5 or so years lurking as A.L. and my old persona Phatguy |

Imperial Glory is awful at both the tactical and strategic level. The battles suck and the AI will spend the whole game without initiating a battle.
Buy Napolean miniatures and shoot them with a BB gun. That'll be more satisfying.

The tactical does suck but it sure looks prettier than RTW. The strategic portion is not so horrible, not great mind you, just not drag out fugly or completly without merit. Maybe if the devs work on IG2 they will improve it to the point of decent playability |
