Interceptions put USC behind early in the game, and they trailed for most of the day. The Trojans clawed back to 35-35 with 6:56 to go in the 4th after a 35-21 third-quarter deficit, but we were able to answer with a Mark Roberts rushing TD that put us back on top 42-35 with 3:52 left in the game. EF's boys once again drove down the field, but Walter Spencer's 3rd interception of the day came in our end zone and did them in. Roberts carried the day for us, as he totaled 234 yards and 3 TDs on 33 carries. Melvin Greer only threw 6 passes on the day, but made the most of them with 6 completions for 132 yards and 3 TDs. Final score IU 49, USC 35. Hopefully, this game will make the Heisman voters stand up and take notice of Mr. Roberts. Good game EF. You hung in there despite early adversity. The game is never over with you until the final gun.

Spencer had a huge 1st half with over 500 yards passing in just the first half. But, he got injured in the 3rd quarter and sat the rest of the game. Johnson came in off the bench and had some big plays but he got hurt too. Our 3rd string RS Sophomore QB (and starter next year if our freshman phenom gets mad at the redshirt and transfers) Chris Brown had a nice 4th quarter with 2 passes both for TD's. Our defense was bad in the 1st half but was much better in the 2nd half as we crushed Arizona.

The only bad news against Washington was that senior speedy WR Tye White went down with a serious injury that will cost him the rest of the year. We have plenty of weapons to step up but I was hoping he could set some records this year. As it is, he finished his senior season with 108 catches for 1972 yards (18.2 avg) and 18 TD's.
But, it did not slow down our offense as RS Freshman T.J White took over the #1 receiver spot with no problems (and perhaps better hands.) He had a huge game and we used our TE Mike Harris more who also had a huge game. Spencer only had 4 incompletions and 3 of them were on drops as he had a nearly perfect day. Our defense also stepped up big with 4 interceptions. We scored in every way possible including passing, rushing, kickoff return, punt return, and interception return. Big day for the entire team. |
