Iowa got Tyler Cook and Isiaih Moss back from their NBA evaluation. I have no idea why these guys thought they were ready for the NBA. Not even close. I hope this isnt a statement about the coach and/or program. but Im afraid it is.

I believe Illinois actually plays at Notre Dame.

Washington gets everyone back after PF Noah Dickerson withdrew from the draft (which was expected, especially after he didn't get a combine invite). The Huskies could be a Pac-12 contender this coming season.

UCLA returns Cody Riley, Jaylan Hands, and Kris Wilkes. We are a competent head coach away from being a final four contender

WVU loses Carter and Miles, but brings in what is probably Huggins' best class on paper. Jordan McCabe, Derek Culver, Emmitt Matthews, and Jermaine Haley are or were all 4* recruits. Brandon Knapper and Trey Doomes were borderline 4* guys. This team will have more length than Huggins has had at WVU. Should be a top 15ish type team.

The popular early narrative will have Villanova tumbling because DeVincinzo and Spellman decided to stay in the NBA Draft. Wright has built a pretty good program though, and Quinerly should be a nice replacement for Brunson, Gillespie is an Arcianacdo clone and Joe Cremo was one of the more highly sought wings for transfer and decided to come here. To add, Villanova will actually have a home court advantage this year because the Pavilion reopens after they had to play all home games last year at the Wells Fargo Center. Lastly, the Big East should be down because Xavier lost a lot as well. All told, I think it sets up nicely for a 25+ win season and a high NCAA seed.

The way the NCAA trial is going we're going to see a lot of assistants falling on the sword to try to save head coach's jobs.

James Gatto, Merl Code and Christian Dawkins found guilty in college basketball pay-for-play trial

So how confident are college head coaches that these guys are going to be their Greg Andersons?

At this risk of evaluating these guys exclusively by their career paths and looks, I don't think they are built for time in the bing.

I went to Monmouth Park yesterday in honor of the first day. Did and 8 team parlay. $15 would win $2700.

Hit 7/8. Missed Providence. Wanted to puke in my bed when I saw the results this morning.

I mostly watched FSU kick UF's butt once I saw the way the UK game (and election) was trending. I guess this isn't UF's best team, but FSU looked really dangerous. And Phil Cofer didn't play due to a foot injury. They had like a 30-35 point lead at one point.

His teammate RJ Barrett might have something to say about that.

Duke is loaded. But so is Kentucky and Duke dominated that entire game.

Yeah. Most exciting probably though.

Zion has very underrated aspects of his game (handle in traffic, vision and passing, hustle and willingness to bang for loose balls), and he's going to be a very good NBA player from day 1, but RJ Barrett's a better player. Both have weaknesses (Zion is better than haters give him credit for, but still inconsistent shooting off the dribble, Barrett always goes back left), and I'm not sold on Cam Reddish or even Tre Jones if he's being asked to be an off ball shooter instead of a floor general, so I could see a team like Virginia slowing it down and beating them, but it's clear if you let those 2 guys run in transition you're done.

Here is another look at that punch. It shows the previous play where Platt air balls a 3. So a little longer video.

Ya, that defender was bottling him up all game.

I love how he looked to see if the ref was watching before attacking the shooter. I guess he forgot both that there was a second ref and that video was running.

The guy had 35 points the previous game and was the conference player of the week. Just an insane way to end your college basketball career.

Does everyone who posts about video games have a screen time problem?

I live in a state where sports betting is legal, I am responsible with my money, and am perfectly in control. It is something I enjoy doing and I really don't appreciate what you implied.

Don’t know what it is that Texas has over North Carolina, but now they have won four straight in the series and eight of the last nine

Not a surprise No. 1 Ohio State? NCAA's initial NET basketball ratings raise questions
Quote:
Among the critics of the new system Monday was statistician Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight, who called the first list "the worst rankings I've ever seen in any sport, ever."

"I guess I'm not sympathetic because a lot of smart people have worked on this problem (power rankings) for a LONG time and the NCAA ignored all that and came up with something that doesn't reflect methodological best practices and which doesn't make sense, basketball-wise," Silver wrote on Twitter.

Really like the look of Hachimura for the Zags. In the offseason our national team played Japan and even though it was largely our B-team without most of the big names, we did have Delly and Thon Maker and Hachimura had his way with us in what was a pretty huge upset victory given how we had steamrolled through all over our Asia games to this point. He looks like a man amongst boys in college.

Dang. Roy Williams not exactly amused after the Tar Heels lay a second-half egg against Michigan. Said it's the most frustrated he's ever been as a coach and this season is his worst job as a coach in 31 years. Meanwhile Michigan still hasn't lost other than the championship game against Villanova since early last February, and Brazdiekis is way better than I expected he would be at this point. Knew Matthews and Simpson would probably do well and be the leaders on this team, but the early returns are that there's more tools in the box for Beilein to use than that.

Looks like the high point of Texas' season will be the 19 point lead they had in the first half against Michigan State. Since beating the Tar Heels they've lost three consecutive against Michigan State, Radford (!?), and VCU.

I do like Shaka Smart, but really wish the Longhorns wouldn't have run off Barnes.

Speaking of the Longhorns, the school today approved a new $300 million basketball arena to replace the Erwin Center. It is an interesting arrangement. The school isn't paying for the construction. They are leasing the land to a company that will build the new arena. UT will get a certain number of days reserved each year for use, the rest of the time the company can use the building as they wish. After 10 years UT will get a cut of that revenue.

UT regents OK plan for $338M arena to replace Erwin Center - News - Austin American-Statesman - Austin, TX

While the Vols hold on #1 seems tenuous to say the least, Grant Williams put on a show tonight & saved them at Vandy.

Quote:
Williams scored a career-high 43 and made all 23 free throws as the Volunteers avoided a repeat of their last trip to Memorial Gym when also freshly minted No. 1, holding off Vanderbilt 88-83 in overtime Wednesday night.

By going 23 of 23 at the line, Williams turned in the most free throws without a miss in the NCAA since Arlen Clark was 24 of 24 for Oklahoma State on March 7, 1959.

I'm not sure you couldn't find better shooters in the intramural league than what Pastner has put in uniform for Georgia Tech.

I'm starting to think that maybe he's just a bit ... dim.

Huskies peaking at the right time. Really need to avoid a bad loss in the conference tournament. They won’t win it all but I certainly wouldn’t want to play them in March. Tons of seniors, great coach who plays D. A big man who can play low, guards who can hit three, tons of athletes, and the best defensive player in the country. I can easily see us being that lower seeded team who makes a run.

They'll probably have to make do without Dickerson tonight in Tucson - I expect Hopkins will elect to sit him out to make sure he's in better shape to take on ASU on Saturday.

It's been a really fun season so far though. Matisse Thybulle is a magician on the defensive end.
