I hope this is somehow a mistake....he was always one of my favorite football players. Just busted his ass all the time and was a winner.

They are saying he was found behind a market in downtown. Possible murder/suicide or "an attempt to look like" murder suicide.

I hope he didn't do it to himself. He just opened a restaurant down there, too. Seems like he was doing all right.

I was about to post that same link, I'm wondering if he might have been robbed while carrying the night's proceeds or something.

edit to add: But the location where he was found is way the hell across town, about a mile from the river.

My impression is that he's not actually running it, but owns it and lends his name to it.

But I think we'll be all curious to hear what details they can pull out, because man...

Yeah, probably so (since the article mentioned two full-time managers) but the article also had him talking about planning to be hands-on when he could so I guess I was trying to force the story into something that would make sense without assuming the worst.

In what would be a sort of odd twist if they're right, the rumor bloggers are starting to pick up on the possibility that his wife shot him & then shot herself.
Not sure if they're just feeding on their own rumors or if someone got something off the record from the PD or what.

Odd, but not surprising. I'd actually be a little surprised if it were the other way. They are now saying it was in apartment complex. I guess the story will change as it develops.

Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair killed, police say - CNN.com

This report says the woman found dead was McNair's girlfriend. Some reports are saying it was his wife. Maybe it was an affair but I guess there's too many conflicting reports to speculate.

He was such an amazing athlete to watch, he always had a nother trick in the bag ready to go. Gifted player. I didn't know he was also drafted in the 35th round for baseball in 1991 out of HS as well. just all around great athlete and will be missed by sports fans everywhere.

I think Steve was saying that he hopes that McNair wasn't the killer--that it was the chick or someone else.

Yeah. What Ben said.

ESPN says gunshot to the head and female "victim". Those seem to be code words to say he may have done this.

Quote:
Police spokesman Don Aaron said a woman, who was not McNair's wife Mechelle, was also found dead with McNair. He said police tentatively have identified the woman but did not release her name.

Mechelle McNair said she had not heard from her husband in a couple of days.

Aaron ruled out the possibility of a murder-suicide. He also said that the time of the deaths is uncertain and that they may not have occurred Saturday.

Never say never but I would be totally shocked if guy like him would go and off someone.but I guess we will have to wait and see.I myself would be more likely to believe the girl killed him and herself or a double murder.

Former Titans QB Steve McNair Shot To Death - Sports News Story - WSMV Nashville

Some tidbits from a longer writethru.

Mechelle McNair said she had not heard from her husband in a couple of days. She was in the couple's home Saturday on Bear Road in Green Hills.
... A source told Channel 4 News that McNair was seen at about 1 a.m. Saturday at a Nashville restaurant. ... "There are persons who were around the complex today, visitors, who have been taken to headquarters for questioning, just to see what they know, what they may have seen," Aaron said. "No one is in custody right now." ... Two black SUVs were towed from the scene. ... The owner of the building is Charles Cardwell, a well-known Metro trustee. Cardwell said the unit where McNair and the woman were found was rented to Wayne Neeley, who worked or still works at Nashville Sporting Goods as a salesman. Cardwell, who also lived in the building, said the apartment was often vacant but that McNair used it when he came into town. ... Neeley had rented the apartment for about four years, said Cardwell, who also said he isn't aware of previous problems at the apartment, which is near McNair's restaurant Gridiron9. ... McNair aided in the revitalization of the Jefferson Street area with the recent opening of Gridiron9, near Tennessee State University. He could be found at the restaurant sweeping floors, eating, serving and talking to people. Restaurant patrons have remarked upon how accessible he was, and many wrote memorial tributes to the athlete Saturday afternoon on the windows of Gridiron9. [/i]

Okay, this sure does sound like death by misadventure. The key to that wouldn't be the female victim being his girlfriend, it would be her being somebody else's girlfriend/wife too.

Second of all, mostly just an accuracy in the media issue to me I guess, somebody else Google map the two locations & see if you would refer to them as being near his restaurant. Second Avenue South and Lea Avenue is what is given for the condo, 2719E Jefferson Street for the restaurant (check east near the river, 3 blocks south & 4 blks east of the country music HOF). Those look like the opposite sides of town as far as I can figure

I'm hearing it was a 20 year old female. Not sure if that lends more or less to the girlfriend rumor. Could have been an employee, etc. Non of the news stories are giving much detail at this point.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville police say former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was shot multiple times and that the 20-year-old woman found dead with him in a downtown condominium was shot once in the head. A pistol was found near her body.

Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron identified the woman as Sahel Kazemi, whom he called a "friend" of McNair's.

Autopsies were planned for Sunday.

Aaron says McNair's wife, Mechelle, is "very distraught" and that police do not believe she is involved.

The Associated Press: Former NFL quarterback McNair killed in Tennessee

Latest report from the AP sounds like a murder-suicide. I wonder how they ruled that out already.

Local paper says murder-suicide, 20 year old shot herself after killing him. He'd allegedly/reportedly/whatever been dating the Dave & Buster's waitress for several months and had recently given her an Escalade that was registered in both their names. Police have now confirmed that, although he was not mentioned in the official report, McNair was in the vehicle when she was stopped for DUI a couple of days ago.
