Carlisle United. A long journey to the top of the footballing world *FM14*

hello all, i decided to do a FM 14 dynasty with my team Carlisle United. i should tell everyone who wants to follow my games tend to last 20+ seasons unless a bug ruins the game. also there will be pics, punch and doughnuts*

*must bring your own punch and doughnuts

a long but not glorious history. Carlisle has only been to the top flight once (one season) in the mid 70's

first 2 games of the season.

Carlisle 1-3 Leyton Orient

League cup action

Doncaster 4-5 Carlisle

in one of the wildest games in my history, we jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, only to blow it in the 2nd half to tie. with 4 min left my young striker Beck takes the lead with a close header

bulletsponge, glad to see an FM14 dynasty on these boards, especially since the beta version is now out. Question... is Steam a requirement to play FM 14? Do you have to have steam installed and running?

I have no issue with steam personally, but my computer tech (who is about 70 years old and always grumpy anyways), absolutely hates Steam. Any time he does anything to my computer and finds Steam on there, I hear about it for days upon days. Hearing him gripe and complain for weeks is just not worth the price to get FM14 if I have to have Steam to run it.

scout found a new left back on the free. old man McSweeney wasnt haking it and his contract runs out mid season (1st time ive seen that) this new guy Giverin was out of contract from Man U and is way better than McSweeney. McSweeney had the lowest rating by far on my team, 6.54 and it will be nice to have his contract run out in december and his 64k a year off my books. my true starting LB Chantler was injured with torn ankle ligaments before the season and he still has at least 2 months out before his return.

heres the records of my last 5 games. as you can see i win some, i lose some.

holy crap things are not going well. 2 of my starting defenders go out for 2 months and i cant stop losing. we now sit 20th only 2 points above the drop zone! this might be a shorter dynasty than i expected if i cant turn things around

oh you'll get it, but back to season one

after that horrible stretch were i fell to the 20 spot, i got on a better run and moved up to 17th place but opened up a 8 point spread away from the drop

i should note that my 1st season is always just a rebuilding season as i try and find young players for the future in ireland and hopefully a prospect in my own youth intake. it will likely be 3-5 seasons before i get promoted

great news. first off we lose a game and then win a game. Carlisle now sits 14th a full 10 points clear of relegation zone. also i go on the hunt for a new defender due to injuries and suckiness and i find Repka. sure hes slow, but all my centerbacks are slow

also an agent approached me offering the services of Alan Smith of former Man U fame and english international. ive always wanted this guy because he would be good at the league1 lvl and her makes an excellent mentor for my young midfielders

heres the only guy worth much of anything from my youth intake

ive seen guys like this come thru my intake before at this lvl. he will be poached at the end on next season most likely. i aint goina lie, i do reload the file if i dont like the youth intake a few time

on another good note, North Ireland had thier youth intake and thats a solid place for a team at my level to grab some cheap regen players from

last stretch of the season

i finish the season at 15th place, 3 spots better than predicted. and remember what i said about the young stud regen i just got McAleavy? Stoke is already sniffing around him and he wont resign a new contract with me already.

i did manage to sign 2 youngster regens from Wales, ill post them once they join the team

heres the 1st guy i bought. a 15 yo Welshman from Rhyl. scouts think he could become a leading Premier league midfielder!

he cost 26k, leaving me 20k left in the kitty. but i should be freeing up some funds once contracts end in a month and a half

Ok offseason update

the club is currently 500K in the hole

i had to sell my starting GK Gillespie for 214k which isnt bad, considering he wasnt much better than my backup or GK's that would soon be free. i let 10 players leave on a free, freeing up 900k in salary cap, or half my wage bill . my team is real thin at fullbacks and left wingers.

i got for free this guy, another central midfeilder

scouts think he could become a decent PL midfielder

also 2 PL clubs (Liverpool, aston villa) made low offers for young striker McAveavy. and currently 5 PL clubs are sniffing around him. the only way theyre getting him this year if they make an offer my chairman cant refuse

American Cody Cropper brought in to be the starting keeper. Iranian keeper Santangelo will start roughly 1/3 of games

Highly scouted foward larmour. scouts think he could become PL quality

downside is his casual personality. ill need to mentor him if hes to fullfill his potential

Simpson, has all the makings of a good PL centerback according to the scouts

Simpson and Larmour coast about 90k eack

heres my current financial condition. im only spending 1,050,00 of 1,700,000 of my budget, so i have 650K free to spend on salaries and transfers still. but due to being in the red i have to spend fairly cheaply and on youngsters that i can sell for later. no fully developed players for me!

scout just found a great irish striker with PL potential, but he doesnt want to join me

@ Sheffield United. theyre a tough team

easily one of the most entertaining games ive seen these 2 seasons. we get off to a quick start as Symington scores only 50 seconds into the game. then shit happens. Sheffield scores 4 straight goals before the half. i score 2 more goals in the 2nd half but youngster Nigel Watts picks up 2 yellows (in only his 2nd start for us) and we fall 4-3. probably the most highlights ive seen this season with many close goals

some bad news. 2 carlisle original youngsters dont want to resign with me cause they dont think the club can match their ambition. this is new, normally you can resign 17 and 18yo.

Potts and Brough are the 2. i like potts, hes a good player. brough has 5* potential and should make it to the championship. damn now Beck wants 100k a year!

a string of 3 games in 5 days is going to strain my team. Christmas time of year

@ Swindon

0-3. our butts hurt

3rd game in 5 days

@ Leyton Orient

Limp to a 2-1 loss

Goal
Beck (6)

Assist
Larmour (4)

New year is upon us, and 2 new signings from Ireland

Broughan is a LB, cost 22k and scouts think he could develop into a championship player

Butler is a foward. cost about 60k. but scouts think he has lower PL potential

FA cup time. York is coming to town. should be an easy win

well it started out real bad. i fell behind 2-0 in the 1st half. i scored early in the 2nd half but then i pulled a rabbit out of my ass by scoring 2 goals in the last 6 minutes. we made it much harder than it should have been. Att 10,638. huge crowd

Goals
Gillies
Agogo (6)
McAleavy (10)

Repka (1)

Liverpool, Man U and Man city are all eyeballing McAleavy

OH FUCKIN HELL YEA!

4th round draw has us GOING to Man United!

of course Man U still has to beat Dag and Red, which even i could do. im currently 657k in the red, so this is a huge cash game for me
