We host Forest Green who is currently in 16th place in the league. We are the favorite and expect to take this game but we cannot get complacent.

We did get some bad news earlier as our negotiations with Mark Convery are not going well. Part of that is because my hands are tied with what we can offer him.

A little concerned that Rendell seems to be acting overconfident again. This led to his poor performance before and I won't hesitate to take him out of the lineup again if this happens.

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Gleeson
DC - Bolland
DR - McAuley
ML - McMahon
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
ST - Holroyd
ST - Rendell

Subs: Quinton, Crow, Conery, Hatswell, Carden

- Bennett is making his 25th career league appearance for Cambridge
- Holroyd needs 2 more goals for 25 career league goals

1st half
- In the 12th minute Holroyd received a pass from Willmott that split the defense into the box and fired fro about 15 yards out and into theright of the goal for the 1-0 lead!!!!!! Forest Green is complainign about offside but replay shows they have nothing to complain about
- In the 18th minute Tonkin took a corner from the left wing and Forest Green midfielder Chris Allen tried to had it away but put it into his goal for and own goal and giving us a 2-0 lead
- We go to the half up 2-0

2nd half
- Carden in for Bennett at center midfield in the 61st minute
- Crow in forRendell at striker in the 61st minute
- Convery in for McMahon and moves to center midfield as Challinor moves to left midfield in the 71st minute
- We hold on for the 2-0 victory though we were not that orgaized inthe second half and got complacent

We host 13th place Eastbourne Boro as we try to make a push to get to 2nd place. Prior to the game a report came out that Cambridge may lose me after this season and there is already speculation on my replacement. Hopefully this does not become a distraction.

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Gleeson
DC - Bolland
DR - McAuley
ML - McMahon
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
ST - Holroyd
ST - Crow

Subs: Parkinson, Rendell, Farrell, Hatswell, Beesley

- Tonkin is about to make his 300th career league appearance
- Holroyd needs one more goal for 25 career league goals
- Beesley needs two more goals for 75 career league goals

1st half
- In the 19th minute Challinor made a great cross from the right wing to McMahon on the left wing but he blasted it over the goal
- Parkinson in fo an injured McMahon at left midfield in the 38th minute
- In the 40th minute Holroyd received a pass just outside of the box, made one dribble to his right and lifted a shot into the left corner of the goal...GGOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! we take a 1-0 lead!!! He now has 25 career league goals and that was his 25th overall goal of the season
- We go into the half up 1-0 but not playing extremely well

2nd half
- In the 56th minute Beelsey in for an injured Holroyd at striker, we cannot afford to lose Holroyd now and the crowd seems to be collectively holdng their breath
- In the 66th minute Potter makes a nice quick reaction save after a missed chllenge led to a chance for Eastbourne Boro
- Rendell in for a very tired Crow at striker in the 82nd minute
- In the 84th minute Rendell found Beesley with space to shoot from about 25 yards out but Beesley put it about 2 feet wide left
- We have a couple chances late in the half but nothing comes of it and the game ends 1-0 as we win but another sloppy game

- Robbie Willmott earns man of the match honors

Holroyd will be out 2-3 weeks from his injury. There is a chance we could get him back to end the season which is good as it could have been much worse.

The best news of the day was Kettering lost and we jumped into second, one point ahead of them. This will mean little if we lost to them (we play them on the road in our next game, one of the biggest games of the season for us).

This is a far cry from the worst dynasty ever. If you want to see the worst dynasty ever, check out my current New Mexico State dynasty.

Cambridge is looking pretty good on the table. Good work!

This is going to be the first game that I have ever made it through the season without being fired.

I think it's because I am doing the dynasty and taking the season slower and looking at things more.

(I ran this game earlier but didn't end up writing up much on it due to other LOUSY events going on)

We played at Salisbury who was one point behind us going into the game. The game was huge fr us.

In the first half we played okay but gave up one bad scoring chance that led to a goal and we trailed 1-0 at the half.

In the second half we gota fluke goal by Parkinson on what clearly was a cross attempt but ended up s a well placed shot into the goal.

The rest of the half was not playd well for either side and ended 1-1.

We get a point from the game.

Parkinson was named man of the match.

We are at home for our final game of the regular season and host last place Altrincham. This looks like a present for us but we cannot go into the game over confident.

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Gleeson
DC - Bolland
DR - McAuley
ML - Parkinson
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
ST - Rendell
ST - Beesley

Subs: McMahon, Coulson, Crow, McMahon, Quinton

- Beesley needs 2 goals for 75 career league goals
- Parkinson is about to make his 375th career league appearance
- Rendell has not scored in 370 minutes

1st half
- In the 16th minute Parkinson took a pass down the left wing, cut towards the box, passed out to Challino who was 20 yards out center and he blasted a shot into the right side of the goal to give u the 1-0 lead!!!
- We played with very little emotion for the remainder of the half and coast into halftime up 1-0

2nd half
- McMahon in at left midfield for an injured Parkinson in the 59th minute
- Crow in for Rendell at striker in the 67th minute
- In the 68th minute Altrincham defender Jack Wilson received his second yellow and is sentoff putting them a man down

- In the 78th minute Willmott gets called for a foul in the defensive box and Altrincham is awarded a penalty kick
- Midfielder Kevin Street silences the crowd as he scores on the penalty kick to tie the game 1-1, unbelievable

- We go on to win 2-1, not what we should have done but at least we got the win

Cambridge offers me a new contract but I have submitted a counter offer for a higher weekly salary as their offer was the same as my previous contract but this one is a two year deal.

May 2, 2009

Cambridge have agreed to my counter offer and we sign the deal to keep me with the club until 2011.

We open the playoffs on the road at Kettering. The other series has Histon hosting York.

We have not had a lot of luck with Kettering this season with a loss an a draw and being outscored 3-1.

We enter the game completely healthy and Chris Holroyd returns to the lineup!!!

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Coulson
DC - Bolland
DR - Gleeson
ML - Parkinson
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
ST - Holroyd
ST - Beesley

Subs: Rendell, Hatswell, McAuley, Carden, Quinton

1st half
- In the 15th minute Potter made two great saves after a corner to keep the game scoreless
- In the 25th minute Beesley taps a pass to Holroyd but the flag was up for offisde when he took the pass inside the box
- In the 35th minute Kettering had a corner from the left wing, striker Craig Westcarr headed it into the goal to put us down 1-0
- Late in injury time midfielder Mark Bentley received a pass off a free kick and fired it into the goal from about 20 yards out to the left of the goal to give Kettering a 2-0 lead, I have an issue with this ever happening as tere was 1 minute of added time and the ref ended up extending it 4 minutes
- We go to the half down 2-0

2nd half
- Hatswell in for an injured Bolland at defender in the 47th minute
- Rendell in for an injured Beesley at striker in the 63rd minute
- In the 83rd minute Holroyd had a great chance to put us on the board but a save by the keeper kept it 2-0
- In the 87th minute Bennett received a pass inside the box off a free kick and directs it into the left side of the goal!!!!! We are on the board 2-1
- In added time Willmott gathers the ball down the right wing and crosses to Parkinson anglin into the box from the left side, he dribbles once and fires past the moving keeper... GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL!!!!! We tie it 2-2 in injury time!!!!
- The game ends 2-2, now we just need a home win

- Midfielder Mark Bentley was named man of the match

In other action, Histon and York tied 1-1.

The second leg of our playoff with Kettering and we play at home with the need of only a win (with no worry of goal differential) to advance. We have a couple of issues to work trough. Bolland is out and heis our best defender and has been our anchor on defense all season. Additionally Beesley i banged up and will not start but has not been playing well as of late. That leaves us with Holroyd as the only striker that I can depend on. Rendell has been playing poorly lately though he does have the ability to turn it on and crank out a multi-goal game but he his habit of coasting through games at a time is quite annoying. Crow has shown that he does not have what it takes to be anything but an emergency sub.

Because of this I have decided to go with a 4-4-1-1 formation to start the game.

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Coulson
DC - Hatswell
DR - Gleeson
ML - Parkinson
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
AMC - McMahon
ST - Holroyd

Subs: Rendell, Farrell, Beesley, Convery, Quinton

1st half
- In the 6th minute Potter made a spectacular save diving to his right on a point blank shot to keep the game scoreless
- In the 9th minute Potter made another great save, this time diving to his right on a blast from the top of the box
- In the 14th minute Holroyd ran beteween the defenders to catch up to a perfectly placed forward lob, dribbled past the one defedner that caught him, angled toward the left of the box and placed the ball just past the moving keeper for the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!! we take the 1-0 lead as the crowd erupts
- In the 31st minute Parkinson receved the ball on the left wing, dribbles past several defenders as he cuts to the center and finds space to shot at the top of the box, he fires it into the left corner of the goal!!!!!! We take a 2-0 lead and hope to be that much closer to advancing
- We maintain and go to the half up 2-0

2nd half
- In the 56th minute midfielder Darren Wrack received a pass right outside of the six and put it into the left side of the goal to cut our lead to 2-1
- In the 58th minute Potter kept us up by one with a fingertip save
- Convery in for Willmott at right midfield in the 60th minute
- In the 77th minute Convery took a corner from the right wing and placed it perfectly to Holroyd but he headed it just over the goal
- Farrell in for a tired Challinor in the 77th minute
- In the 81st minute midfielder Calvin Cader receives a free kick and heads it into the left side of the goal to tie the game, they have do to us what we did in the first game as the game isnow tied 2-2
- Rendell in for a tired Parkinson as McMahon moves to left midfield and Rendell up to striker as we switch to a 4-4-2 in the 90th minute
- Regulation ends 2-2 as we try to change momentum with a few adjustments to our strategy for extra time

1st Overtime
- In the 92nd minute Potter makes a fine save point blank to keep the game tied
- In the 100th minute things get really bad as Rendell is unable to continue and we have no subs left, all this while McMahon is trying to shake off a injury
- The first overtime ends tied 2-2

2nd Overtime
- We hang on and don't allow a goal as the second overtime ends still tied 2-2 and we go to penalties

Penalties
- Convery takes the first penalty, he buries it to the left side 1-0
- Striker Craig Westcarr takes their first penalty, Potter makes a great save diving to his left to keep it out!!!!! 1-0

- Holroyd is up next, be blasts it over the goal, still 1-0
- Midfielder Andre Boucaud is up for Kettering, he scores to the right of the goal, 1-1

- Tonkin steps up next, he scores top left corner!!!! 2-1
- Midfielder Calvin Cader steps up next for Kettering, he scored the tying goal in the second half, he scores low left corner to make, 2-2

- Bennett is up next, the midseason acquisition has a chance to make a big play for us here, he scores just inside the left post!!!! 3-2
- Kettering's defender Dale Bennett steps up next, a save or misss here would be HUGE, he scores upper left corner, 3-3, Holroyd's complete miss is hanging over our head right about now

- Farrell is up next, one of the biggest kicks of his life, he blasts it upperleft corner!!!!! 4-3
- In comes down to this, we hope, midfielder Mark Bentley needs to score for Kettering or we win, HE PUT IT WIDE LEFT!!!!!! We win!!!!!

- Andy Parkinson is named man of the match

In other matches, York beat Histon 2-1 and moves on (3-2).

We will play York at Wembley in the Playoff Final on May 17th.

We play at Wembley against York in the playoff final. Unfortuately Rendell and Bolland will not be available (Bolland being out concerns me the most).

I have decided to go back to the 4-4-2 and give Crow a start in Rendell's absence (and leave Beesley for coming off the bench as he has not done well lately).

G - Potter
DL - Tonkin
DC - Coulson
DC - Hatswell
DR - Gleeson
ML - Parkinson
MC - Bennett
MC - Challinor
MR - Willmott
ST - Holroyd
ST - Crow

Subs: Quinton, McAuley, McMahon, Farell, Beesley

1st half
- No real chances for either team early as we are both trying to feel each other out to see if we can find a weakness
- Farrell on for an injured Hatswell at center defender in the 36th minute
- Beesley on for an injured Wilmott at center midfielder (Challinor moves to right) in the 36th minute (both Hatswell and Willmott were injured within about 2 minutes of each other but not serious enough to warrant a stoppage but they are both struggling)
- In the 42nd minute Parkinson crosss from the left wing to Beesley but he shot it over the net
- Two minutes into added time Tonkin made a great low cross to the far post and found Crow who headed it into the GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! We take a 1-0 lead and Crow has what we hope becomes the biggest goal of the year for us!!!
- The half ends with us up 1-0

2nd half
- In the 65th minute Potter makes a great diving save off a header from a cross to keep us up 1-0
- McMahon in for an injured Beesley at in the 73rd minute, injuries are really taking a toll and we go into a defensive shell to try to hang on
- We keep them from getting any good chances the rest of the way and come away with a 1-0 win!!!!

- Andy Parkinson is named man of the match

With this win we have won promotion to Coca-Cola League 2!!!!

Chris Holroyd has been voted the Cambridge Player of the Year by the fans.

I have acceted a busy friendly schedule as I am looking to invite quite a few reserves up for these matches so I can see just what we have for the season before I decide on just who will be on our main squad.

Going through the "preseason" over the next couple days. Will post a summary of the friendlies and the roster highlights. There are a couple signings that I am quite happy about and I hope they will help us stay mid-table this season.

Had a mixed result from our friendlies but most matches were against higher level opponents, only one was a cream puff. We played 6 friendlies and won 2, had 1 draw and lost 3.

Our best margin of victory was a 6-0 trouncing of a team that we outclassed by a wide margin. Holroyd made a statement in that game as he played only the first half and scored 4 goals.

Our most impressive was a 3-0 win over a team that was a level above us and we were down a man fro teh 40th minute on thanks to Hatswell picking up 2 yellow cards and being ejected in the first half.

1st half
- In the 7th minute Brentford striker Nathan Elder put a rebound after a corner into our net and we fall behind 1-0
- In the 38th minute the siege continues as strikeer Charlie MacDonald receives a pass inside the box at about 15 yards out, turns and fires a perfect shot into the right side of the goal past Potter as we now trail 2-0
- We struggle into the half down 2-0 but are lucky that is all the deficit it, we are being outshot 13-2 and in shots on target the total is 5-0, we are being dominated

- Pericard in for Beesley at striker in the 65th minute

- In the 88th minute Holroyd sent a long pass to Pericard coming forward and he gained position to shoot as he entered the box, the save was made but the rebound came out far to the left where Rundle one touched it into the gaping net.... GOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!! His second goal of the game, 3-2 as we make it respectable late
- We are unable to threaten again as the whistle blows as we are about to mount our best effort in added time and we fall 3-2 but I am proud of the team for not giving up

- Adam Rundle is named man of the match, upsetting to the home Brentford fans as they felt MacDonald deserved the honor

August 25, 2009

Andy Parkinson has been diagosed with a virus and has been sent home to recover. His recovery time may be a couple weeks and we don't want anything spreading to the team. His presence on the fied will be missed.

Very surprised and pleased by our early results in the league. As long as we can avoid relegation I will be quite happy. Anything above that is just a bonus.

Didn't save my write up (stupid).

Had an away match aganst Grimsby and played a tight match but lost 2-1. Pericard scored our goal but unfortunately Hatswell had an own goal or we may have salvaged a point out of the game.
