CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Martínez

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Jesús Martínez put together a solid offensive month for Apex and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .297 with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

When Lee Hall stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Montreal center fielder posted a .324 batting average with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 18 runs. Hall also worked pitchers for 10 walks to post a .393 on-base percentage.

Parsons Picked as April's Pitcher of the Month

In April, when the name of Van Parsons appeared on the Halifax lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 5 times and chalked up 5 wins and no losses. With those stats it was a also a virtual lock that he would be named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

Parsons shackled opposing batters on 30 base hits and a .205 batting average. He rang up 27 strikeouts in 40.1 innings of work, surrendered 3 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.01 ERA.

Ruíz Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy

Roberto Ruíz's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 30-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 46 in 44.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.41 and allowed opponents to hit .186 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Elliott McKenzie is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .295 average with 31 hits, 5 home runs and 26 RBIs.

Samuel Bilodeau earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hartford second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Bilodeau hit .333 with 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Continental League Picks May's Best Batter

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Fabián Gómez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Apex shortstop put together a .379 batting average with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Gómez continues at this brisk pace.

For the year Gómez is hitting .359 with 7 home runs. His stats include 29 runs batted in and 42 runs scored.

RL Best Hitter Award to Ann Arbor's Wes Esmonde

Wes Esmonde of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines stood out at the plate during May. The 26-year-old first baseman manhandled Republic League pitchers by batting .291 and was selected the Batter of the Month.

Esmonde collected 32 hits with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 14 times.

In 55 games this season Esmonde has batted at a .231 pace with 50 hits and 15 home runs.

Kogawa CL Winner, Top Hurler in May

May was a magical month for Kanjiro Kogawa of Leduc. He held the Continental League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 4-0 mark and a 0.65 ERA.

Kogawa also chalked up 5 starts, 41.2 innings and 31 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

This year Kogawa has posted a record of 6 wins and 3 losses with a 1.43 ERA. He has appeared in 11 games and struck out 70 in 88 innings.

Republic League Premier Pitcher is Wilshaw

Wes Wilshaw had a very good May and has been rewarded with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award. The Ann Arbor bullpen specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead.

The Winged Lingerines ace starred with 6 saves in 12 relief appearances, logging 16 innings, 8 strikeouts, 6 walks and a 1.69 ERA. Wilshaw finished the month with 3 wins and no losses -- and was named the league's best pitcher.

Checking out his season stats to date, Wilshaw has 12 saves in 23 relief appearances with a 4-2 mark and 2.86 ERA. Teams are batting .198 against him.

CL Best Rookie Award Announced

Elliott McKenzie's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Noblesville center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .313 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. McKenzie also scored 15 times and drove in 19 runs.

This year McKenzie has 12 home runs and a .305 batting average.

Hartford Second Baseman Rated Best Rookie

Youngster Samuel Bilodeau emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .330 with 4 home runs and 15 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Bilodeau enjoy the limelight.

For the season, Bilodeau is hitting at a .332 clip with 5 home runs, 24 RBIs and has scored 28 runs. He has 63 hits, 5 walks and a .352 on-base percentage.

Gómes Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy

The Continental League Batter of the Month has been picked for June and the honor goes to the Leduc Bullets Pablo Gómes.

He compiled a .369 batting average with 38 hits and 5 home runs, along with 19 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Gómes is batting at a .298 pace this season, picking up 94 hits in 315 at-bats with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

López Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy

Raúl López, the Omaha third baseman, had a productive month in June. He put up some solid numbers with a .438 batting average (42 for 96), 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

That standout offense earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy.

This year López has hit at a .339 clip with 49 RBIs, 16 home runs and 57 runs scored.

Leduc Starter Named CL's Best Pitcher

Veteran Tatsukichi Kouda put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Leduc Bullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Kouda racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.47 ERA over 43.2 innings and striking out 41.

Thus far this season Kouda has posted a 7-5 record, started 17 games, struck out 101 batters in 118.1 innings and compiled a 2.51 ERA.

Rivera Takes RL Top Starter Trophy

Javier Rivera was on cloud nine the entire month of June, capping it off with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors.

The Toronto starter was spectacular in 5 starting assignments with 5 wins and no losses, 35.2 innings pitched, 31 strikeouts and a fine 2.52 ERA.

To date this season, Rivera has a record of 11 wins and 3 losses and a 3.50 ERA. He has appeared in 16 games and struck out 74 in 110.2 innings.

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Jesús Suárez just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old catcher for Noblesville hit .219 with 23 hits, 8 home runs and 19 runs batted in. He also logged 4 walks and compiled a .252 on-base percentage.

In 81 games Suárez is hitting .257 this season with 81 hits, 21 home runs, 60 RBIs, 12 walks, .302 OBP and has scored 41 runs.

Hughes Tabbed RL's Top Rookie

Karl Hughes certainly had a lot to crow about in the Republic League in June. The rookie third baseman for Hammersmith tagged opposing pitchers for a .317 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

Aarsse Crowned Top CL Hitter in July

The Continental League has made it official -- Lense Aarsse is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In July, the Napa Valley right fielder starred with a .309 batting average, 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. Aarsse also had 6 walks, posted a .353 on-base percentage and scored 16 times.

This year Aarsse is batting .286 with 22 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Casillas RL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2192
July's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Hartford left fielder, Sergio Casillas.

He starred by hitting .361 with a .451 on-base percentage, totaled 35 hits in 97 at-bats, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

For the season Casillas has produced 129 hits in 429 at-bats for a .301 average with 10 home runs and gotten on base at a .372 clip.

Continental League Announces Top Starter
Wednesday, August 1st, 2192
The Continental League announced today that Ánibal Caro has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Brooklyn starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 5-1 record.

In July Caro chalked up a 1.71 ERA in 47.1 innings with 47 strikeouts and 7 walks.

Checking out his stats for the season, Caro has notched 12 wins and 5 losses in 23 starts, 3.03 ERA and struck out 130 batters in 154.2 innings.

Rodríguez Collects RL Pitching Award

Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was David Rodríguez of the Hammersmith Hooligans. He captured the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in July.

Rodríguez started 5 games, threw 36.1 innings, yielded 27 hits and logged a 4-0 record. He put down 19 batters on strikes, walked 8 and compiled a 2.48 ERA. Opposing teams batted .209 against him.

This season Rodríguez has gone 7-9 with an ERA of 4.94, posting 76 strikeouts in 129.1 innings.

Mendoza in a Class by Himself

With July's Continental League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Pedro Mendoza has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 24-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .393 batting average, 24 hits, 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

So far this season Mendoza has hit .291 with 9 home runs, 42 RBIs and and scored 31 times.

July's Best RL Rookie Named

Samuel Bilodeau of the Hartford Riverhawks captured the Rookie of the Month honors for July in the Republic League.

Posting a .373 average last month, he collected 31 hits, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Bilodeau is swinging the bat at a .323 pace. He has hit 6 home runs and scored 51 times, while driving in 40. His on-base percentage is .361 and he has played in 84 games.

Norberto Muñóz was at the top of the hit parade in the Continental League throughout August. For the outstanding month, the talented Cleveland third baseman was chosen the Batter of the Month.

He compiled a .408 average with 40 hits, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

This season in 135 games Muñóz is batting .331 with 6 home runs, 53 RBIs and has scored 94 times.

Great August Gets Mitchell RL Best Hitter Award

Nathan Mitchell walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in August.

The Toronto center fielder hit .324 with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

This year Mitchell is hitting .276, produced 92 RBIs and 23 home runs, scored 85 times and gotten on base at a .349 rate.

It was a monstrous August for the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Ánibal Caro of the Brooklyn Brownstones. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Caro recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 37.2 innings, he yielded 28 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 9 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.91 in a stellar month on the mound.

On the year Caro has compiled a 16-6 mark with a 2.81 ERA.

Flores Wins Best RL Pitcher

The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Wilson Flores of the Hartford Riverhawks. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing August with a superb 5-1 record and a 2.40 ERA.

The Riverhawks star made 6 starts and surrendered 43 hits in 45 innings. He struck out 17 and walked 5.

So far this year Flores has a 16-4 record with a 2.90 ERA.

Oddly, I'm the same way. I started FOOLX first and never fully grasped FOOL like I did FOOLX.

That doesn't always explain it, though.

For instance, for me, FOOL will always be my "home league" and my top franchise the Hooligans, because we go back now almost five years. I'm still more comfortable running things in FOOL, and getting a grasp on players and their abilities in FOOL.

And, yet, it is Havana in FOOLX where I have been much more successful of late.

So go figure.

RL's #1 Batter Chosen Tuesday, May 1st, 2192 When Lee Hall stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award. Parsons shackled opposing batters on 30 base hits and a .205 batting average. He rang up 27 strikeouts in 40.1 innings of work, surrendered 3 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.01 ERA. Ruíz Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy Tuesday, May 1st, 2192 Roberto Ruíz's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 30-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 46 in 44.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.41 and allowed opponents to hit .186 against him.

Today Fabián Gómez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Continental League Batter of the Month honors. The Apex shortstop put together a .379 batting average with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Gómez continues at this brisk pace. For the year Gómez is hitting .359 with 7 home runs. His stats include 29 runs batted in and 42 runs scored. RL Best Hitter Award to Ann Arbor's Wes Esmonde Friday, June 1st, 2192 Wes Esmonde of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines stood out at the plate during May. The 26-year-old first baseman manhandled Republic League pitchers by batting .291 and was selected the Batter of the Month. Esmonde collected 32 hits with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 14 times. In 55 games this season Esmonde has batted at a .231 pace with 50 hits and 15 home runs.

He held the Continental League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 4-0 mark and a 0.65 ERA. Kogawa also chalked up 5 starts, 41.2 innings and 31 strikeouts. For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy. This year Kogawa has posted a record of 6 wins and 3 losses with a 1.43 ERA. He has appeared in 11 games and struck out 70 in 88 innings. Republic League Premier Pitcher is Wilshaw Friday, June 1st, 2192 Wes Wilshaw had a very good May and has been rewarded with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award. The Ann Arbor bullpen specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead. The Winged Lingerines ace starred with 6 saves in 12 relief appearances, logging 16 innings, 8 strikeouts, 6 walks and a 1.69 ERA. Wilshaw finished the month with 3 wins and no losses -- and was named the league's best pitcher. Checking out his season stats to date, Wilshaw has 12 saves in 23 relief appearances with a 4-2 mark and 2.86 ERA. Teams are batting .198 against him.

López Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy Sunday, July 1st, 2192 Raúl López, the Omaha third baseman, had a productive month in June. He put up some solid numbers with a .438 batting average (42 for 96), 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored. That standout offense earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy. This year López has hit at a .339 clip with 49 RBIs, 16 home runs and 57 runs scored.

Over the past month the 25-year-old catcher for Noblesville hit .219 with 23 hits, 8 home runs and 19 runs batted in. He also logged 4 walks and compiled a .252 on-base percentage. In 81 games Suárez is hitting .257 this season with 81 hits, 21 home runs, 60 RBIs, 12 walks, .302 OBP and has scored 41 runs. Hughes Tabbed RL's Top Rookie Sunday, July 1st, 2192 Karl Hughes certainly had a lot to crow about in the Republic League in June. The rookie third baseman for Hammersmith tagged opposing pitchers for a .317 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy. He won it by going 32-101 in 28 games with 6 home runs, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored. In 2192 Hughes has hit at a .268 clip with 78 hits, 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 32 times.

In July, the Napa Valley right fielder starred with a .309 batting average, 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. Aarsse also had 6 walks, posted a .353 on-base percentage and scored 16 times. This year Aarsse is batting .286 with 22 home runs and 74 RBIs. Casillas RL Outstanding Batter of the Month Wednesday, August 1st, 2192 July's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Hartford left fielder, Sergio Casillas. He starred by hitting .361 with a .451 on-base percentage, totaled 35 hits in 97 at-bats, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 14 runs. For the season Casillas has produced 129 hits in 429 at-bats for a .301 average with 10 home runs and gotten on base at a .372 clip.

The Brooklyn starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 5-1 record. In July Caro chalked up a 1.71 ERA in 47.1 innings with 47 strikeouts and 7 walks. Checking out his stats for the season, Caro has notched 12 wins and 5 losses in 23 starts, 3.03 ERA and struck out 130 batters in 154.2 innings. Rodríguez Collects RL Pitching Award Wednesday, August 1st, 2192 Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was David Rodríguez of the Hammersmith Hooligans. He captured the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in July. Rodríguez started 5 games, threw 36.1 innings, yielded 27 hits and logged a 4-0 record. He put down 19 batters on strikes, walked 8 and compiled a 2.48 ERA. Opposing teams batted .209 against him. This season Rodríguez has gone 7-9 with an ERA of 4.94, posting 76 strikeouts in 129.1 innings.

For the outstanding month, the talented Cleveland third baseman was chosen the Batter of the Month. He compiled a .408 average with 40 hits, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 27 runs scored. This season in 135 games Muñóz is batting .331 with 6 home runs, 53 RBIs and has scored 94 times. Great August Gets Mitchell RL Best Hitter Award Saturday, September 1st, 2192 Nathan Mitchell walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in August. The Toronto center fielder hit .324 with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored. This year Mitchell is hitting .276, produced 92 RBIs and 23 home runs, scored 85 times and gotten on base at a .349 rate.

He put up some mighty scary numbers. Caro recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 37.2 innings, he yielded 28 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 9 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.91 in a stellar month on the mound. On the year Caro has compiled a 16-6 mark with a 2.81 ERA. Flores Wins Best RL Pitcher Saturday, September 1st, 2192 The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Wilson Flores of the Hartford Riverhawks. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing August with a superb 5-1 record and a 2.40 ERA. The Riverhawks star made 6 starts and surrendered 43 hits in 45 innings. He struck out 17 and walked 5. So far this year Flores has a 16-4 record with a 2.90 ERA.
