Great defense makes a difference in baseball. This year's top glovemen in the Republic League are:

Ledoux Snags CL Rookie Award

Sam Ledoux's age didn't show very often in his first year. He performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Havana Banana Sluggers and today he walked away with the 2128 Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award.

The 22-year-old starter registered a 19-8 record this season in 33 starts. Over 241.2 innings he gave up 202 hits, struck out 232 and issued 53 walks as he held the opposition to a .229 batting average and fashioned a 2.61 ERA.


RL Announces 2128 Kien-lung Teng Award

Joaquín Sosa, first baseman for the Chicago Hitmen, has won the Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award for 2128 after putting up a good freshman year.

In 162 games, Sosa hit at a .272 clip with 178 hits in 654 at-bats and 38 home runs, drove in 133 runs and scored 91 times.

CL Mauro Morales Award Announced

22-year-old Sam Ledoux of the Havana Banana Sluggers put together a good year in 2128 for such a young player. Ledoux was named today as the winner of the Continental League Mauro Morales Award.

Ledoux crafted an impressive 19-8 record and a 2.61 ERA. In 241.2 innings he allowed 202 hits, struck out 232, and walked 53.


Republic League Crowns Chicago's Sosa

The Mauro Morales Award for 2128 has been presented and the Republic League winner is Pablo Sosa of Chicago.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Sosa. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Hitmen star told reporters.

Sosa excelled with an impressive 17-5 record in 33 starts. In 219.2 innings he yielded 167 hits and 31 walks, while striking out 238 and compiling a fine 2.42 ERA.

Bernardo Barrón Chosen CL's Best Hitter

Bernardo Barrón went on a season-long hitting spree against Continental League pitchers and captured the Bartolo Liriano Award for 2128.

The Manchester left fielder battered the opposition for 191 hits, 40 doubles, 7 triples, 28 home runs, 102 RBI and 94 runs scored. He hit .375 and posted a .454 on-base percentage.

What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2128 Bartolo Liriano Award in the Republic League. It had already been a very special season for Chicago's Raúl Calderón, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Raúl Calderón gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .282 as he collected 183 hits, 36 doubles, 9 triples, 27 home runs and 104 RBIs.
