Sylvain Lemieux has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for April.

In 29 games the Brooklyn batter hit .248 with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Luis Rúbio battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Rúbio told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Rúbio hit .356 with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

Pérez Top CL Starter in April

Emílio Pérez took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 23-year-old Millers starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 25 batters in 40.1 innings and compiled a 1.56 ERA.


Ruíz April's Best Hurler in RL

Roberto Ruíz's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 31-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 39 in 45.1 innings, logged an ERA of 2.98 and allowed opponents to hit .249 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Félix Sánchez earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Leduc center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Sánchez hit .325 with 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

José Pérez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Hammersmith first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .295 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 10 home runs. Pérez also scored 22 times and drove in 28 runs.

Aarsse stung the ball all month, posting a .359 batting average with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Congdon Takes Best Bat Award in May

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Albert Congdon put together a solid offensive month for Hartford and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

Veteran Tatsukichi Kouda put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Leduc Bullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Kouda racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.72 ERA over 43 innings and striking out 42.

At Jesús Ramos's age, not many pitchers can still get the job done. But he can still throw the ball. The 38-year-old reliever for Apex was selected the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for June earlier today -- not only satisfying himself, but silencing critics who said he has lost too much to compete at this level.

The old man definitely still has it, making 15 relief appearances and throwing 19.2 innings as he chalked up 4 saves, 8 strikeouts, and a fine 0.92 ERA and a 5-0 mark.

Season-to-date in 40 relief appearances Ramos has rung up 17 saves. He has 23 strikeouts and 20 walks in 44 innings while registering a 2.86 ERA and a 6-3 won-lost record. Opposing teams have hit .201 against him.


Hooligans Hurler Named RL's Best Starter

The Pitcher of the Month Award in June has been selected and the Republic League honor went to Hammersmith hurler, Francisco Lucero. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

During the month, Lucero was superb with a 0.47 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 38 innings he struck out 34 and gave up 33 hits and 3 walks.

This season Lucero has fanned 86 in 116.2 innings and collected a 10-6 record with a 2.85 ERA.

June's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself

Youngster Dwain Tomlinson emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Leduc deserved the honor, batting .290 with no home runs and 10 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Tomlinson enjoy the limelight.

For the season Tomlinson is batting .304 with 65 hits and 1 home run. He has scored 22 times and batted in 25.

The Continental League All-Stars versus the Republic League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. Miranda Takes Home CL Top Batter Award

When guys like Cleveland's Júlio Miranda win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 42 hits in 91 at-bats.

The veteran third baseman hit for a .462 batting average and collected 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

This season Miranda is batting .321 with 10 home runs. His totals include 61 RBIs and 59 runs scored.


Cochran Named RL Batter of the Month

Wes Cochran feasted on Republic League pitching in July and today he walked off with the Batter of the Month award.

The Montreal third baseman rapped out a .383 batting average while collecting 36 hits, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Cochran is batting at a .272 pace this season, picking up 110 hits in 405 at-bats with 20 home runs, 73 RBIs and 67 runs scored.

Colón Is July's Best CL Hurler

Juan Colón of Leduc had an excellent July with a 4-0 record and was selected the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

He finished the month with a 1.60 ERA while piling up 27 strikeouts in 33.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .236 batting average.

In 22 starts this year Colón has recorded a 12-3 record and a 2.34 ERA.


RL Announces Best Pitcher for July

When Loys Maynard takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Montreal Royals. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 2.82 ERA in 5 starts. In 38.1 innings, he fanned 20 and walked 8.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

For the year Maynard has a 13-3 record with a 3.73 ERA in 21 starts.

July's #1 Rookie Named by CL

What a month for Dwain Tomlinson! He finished it hitting .324 and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

His monthly totals included a .370 on-base percentage, 24 hits, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Thus far this season in 92 games Tomlinson is batting .309 with 2 home runs, 31 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 89 hits in 288 at-bats.


Rookie of the Month Winner Announced

Omaha's Tony Catling was voted July's Republic League Rookie of the Month by baseball officials after putting together a fine month-long performance.

The 26-year-old first baseman really attacked the baseball, putting up 33 hits, 3 home runs, 12 RBIs and a .371 average while playing in 24 games.

For the year Catling is hitting .268 with 7 home runs. His stats include 49 runs batted in and 37 runs scored.

Chris Long Selected August's Best Batter

August's outstanding offensive player in the Continental League has been picked and the honor goes to the Brooklyn center fielder Chris Long.

He won the award by batting .301, hitting 10 home runs, knocking in 29 runs and scoring 24 times.

Long is batting .293 this year with 31 home runs, 98 RBIs and 90 runs scored. He has 157 hits in 535 at-bats.


Hall Crowned Top RL Hitter in August

It's a time for celebration in Montreal as Lee Hall has just walked away with August's Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He socked 40 hits in 106 at-bats to put up a .377 batting average, 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Hall is currently batting .324 with 22 home runs and 84 RBIs.

O'Reilly Chosen August's Best CL Hurler

Tom O'Reilly took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in August. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Cleveland last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.71 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 42 innings and striking out 26.

This year O'Reilly has made 34 starts, thrown 183.1 innings, fanned 126 batters and walked 49. His won-lost record is 15-5 with a 2.70 ERA.


Republic League Premier Pitcher is Brennan

The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Heath Brennan of the Colorado Rancheros. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing August with a superb 5-0 record and a 1.41 ERA.

The Rancheros star made 5 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 38.1 innings. He struck out 19 and walked 5.

In 27 starts this season Brennan has gathered 9 wins while suffering 12 losses. He has pitched 161.1 innings, allowed 148 hits, struck out 118 and has a 3.90 ERA.

Brennan Picked RL's Top Newcomer

Heath Brennan is beginning to make a name for himself and he did it by posting a 5-0 record and a 1.41 ERA in August. For his spectacular mound performance last month he has been named BNN's Rookie of the Month in the Republic League.

The 25-year-old newcomer isn't at all intimidated by his lack of experience, at least not outwardly. In fact, by the way he has pitched beyond his years, you could easily mistake him for a veteran.

In 5 starts for the Rancheros Brennan has struck out 19 batters in 38.1 innings, holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .182 during his hot streak.

Checking out his stats for the season, Brennan has registered 9 wins and 12 losses in 27 starts, 3.90 ERA and struck out 118 batters in 161.1 innings.

Yeah, I saw that, ashby. I felt bad for you. For long stretches, I have been the Pyth Record King, where the Hooligans would just seemingly dominate the competition, runs-wise, but the wins just wouldn't match. Don't worry, in the end, it turns around.

Speaking of the Hooligans, Hammersmith did about what I expected. I felt I had upgraded the lineup, the defense and the rotation, but the pen would still be awful and I would still not be quite elite on defense and not have enough power in the lineup. Finishing with a good season, but a handful of games out of a playoff spot is about what I expected, and that's what I got.

1st in starters era
1st in relievers era
1st in defensive eff

No playoffs.

In the past, that was a rare feat. The team with the best pitching was almost always in the playoffs in my experience.

I agree with this point for the most part. My offense was just really good this year.
