I am about as ready as ever to try to make a run at things this year, but that thought put into my mind my recent difficulties in putting together a quality bullpen, and I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts about it.

I have come to note in recent weeks that the quality of available relief pitching has dropped sharply. You don't see too many blue numbers across the board anymore, and when you see two blue numbers, usually the third number is either barely in green (60-80) or more often it's in orange (40-60).

Because of this, it has been difficult to rebuild my pen when my system has failed me. This is particularly odd for me, because I tend to put a focus on relief pitchers anyway.

Which brings me to my point. I also noted several weeks ago (months ago?), that it seems like there are no RPs (or next to no RPs) in the draft anymore. It used to be a pretty even split between relievers and starters, with, if anything, starters getting the short shrift.

But now it always leans heavily to starters, probably as much as 80-20. I have even had draft years where I have sorted the draft class with the "All Relievers" tab and had less than a page of relievers available.

I think OOTP at some point (maybe with this version?) shifted how they handle starters and relievers in the draft, maybe reflecting real life, in that most pitchers come into the pros as starters and are converted to relief sometime during their passage up through the minors. I have noticed that many draftable "starters" will only have two pitches with actual serious potential, with a third pitch with potential you would never even throw in a slow pitch softball game. I have taken to converting those pitchers into relievers from the getgo.

Anyway, I was curious for everyone's thoughts.

1. Do you guys see the same things I am seeing with that?
2. Do you think it's a problem, and we have a dearth of reliever talent that is systemic, or is this just the rollercoaster ride of talent in FOOL, and things will eventually go back to normal?
3. If you do think it's possibly a systemic issue, is there anything we can do to modify it or address it? Or do you see it as an issue at all?

This was indeed OOTP changing the way pitchers are created. I don't believe there's anyway to make it create more RP even if we wanted to.

I believe this is a roller coaster of talent influx. I've gone years in my other league I commish without having solid starting pitching but always have the availability of relief pitchers.

However, there are certain factors that hinder starting pitching development in FOOL and even though they are listed as SP they should actually be MR such as quality of pitches. If they have 2 quality pitches but the 3rd is a 1 or a 2 they will not be good starters but rather high quality MR. It's important to pay attention to pitches and not abbreviations of positions.

If they have 2 quality pitches but the 3rd is a 1 or a 2 they will not be good starters but rather high quality MR. It's important to pay attention to pitches and not abbreviations of positions.

Yes, I noticed that, and have paid close attention to the number and level of quality of pitches each pitcher has.
