FOOL & FOOLX
We're going to pull FOOLX for a bit. I just need to get a few things straightened out there before we can go on. I have way to many open teams now. I must say that running both leagues is really tough for me. I'm just not sure I can do both of them anymore. Running both at the same time is just tough. I don't know how else to say it except to say I think we need to go down to one league for a while and see if people catch baseball fever soon. After each baseball season has completed the activity goes down tremendously in FOOLX. FOOL on the other hand keeps going strong.
Note on FOOL reports. I've been working since Markus fixed the FOOL file to get the FOOL reports to create but it crashes. My guess is since he changed team ID's its what crashes it. I'm sorry that they haven't been updated in a while but I'm trying. I've even had someone else try and it crashes for them as well. So its a file issue not a Dan's computer issue. I'll also say that if the FOOLX matter angers you guys I'll resign as commish. Someone else is more then welcome to take it over. It might be easier for someone else. Just please don't hate me. I've tried to keep things going and its been about 1.5 years now that I've been running things. You guys are like family to me so please don't dislike me. I'm not as good as what the past commishes have been I know but I can say with all my heart that I tried. I really have tried and I'm not to ashamed to say that I'm not very good at it. Understandable, Dan.
I do hope we can continue that league, though. Maybe someone else has the know how and time?

With that being said....Dan I completely understand and support any decision you have made.
Also, I have one opening in my league...It's not a fool paced league..We do 4 sims a week at 7 days a sim. It's a fictional league so let me know if you'd be interested. We are in the offseason right now.

Just throwing this out there:
IF we find several new owners, perhaps the league could continue or we could at least address the other issues too... Is there anyone skilled at finding new owners?

It's REALLY tough to find new owners for fast-sim. It's possible, it's just really, really hard to do because the format is odd for most people and so, it takes a dedicated lot to get people interested/involved in playing the game and then wanting to stick around amidst the speediness. Plus you get people who'll try it out, decide it doesn't work for them after a few years and leave. So there's that wrinkle, as well. FOOL-X was only created back in the old days because there were enough people not upgrading to the new version that the league didn't want to lose that it made sense to sustain two leagues on different versions. When both leagues went to the same version of the game, it made sense (people get invested in their clubs, etc.) but save for the history factor there isn't a lot of differentiation between the two and so, with diminished returns it makes less sense to really have two leagues doing the same things. Fast-sim is tough. People's lives change, things age and frankly, if you're not there from the earlier years, it's harder to be invested in a history that you didn't make when teams change hands/franchises histories lose value and meaning and so...it's just tough to sustain over time even in the best of scenarios. hyde you have no need to be hard on yourself. It's a yeoman's effort to run these kinds of leagues and to have taken over at the time you did with no experience and having gotten yourself to the point where you're doing it well and keeping this thing going is admirable and deserves all of the kudos in the world. Thanks for the kind words DC. I knew finding owners was my weakest area going in. It just seems I never can catchup.

In the past leagues I have been in, if a commish stepped aside, which has happened here and there, the owners of the teams still involved in that league would discuss if there was someone who would be able to take over or to help the current to reduce the workload.
I am relatively new to these two leagues. Are there long-term owners who have a vested interest in continuing foolx? (after a break, of course)

Oh sure, I win 5 titles in 9 years and now we quit?
Honestly, while it stinks, I think it's really for the best. I have a hard time keeping up being a single dad of a 3 year old and exporting is at times a burden. I've thought several times about quitting one or both leagues, but could never do it out of loyalty mostly to the dedication of Hyde. With this news though, I'll be happy to stay in FOOL and keep that league going. One league to worry about is much better than two for me.

Wow, five titles in nine years? How did I miss that? That's depressing for the rest of us! Lol...
As I was just telling Dan in PM, I completely understand and support his decision on this. Going to just FOOL alone for a bit makes a lot of sense. FOOLX isn't going anywhere. We can always return to it if we need to. And, Dan, you have been perfect with everything, don't even think anyone could possibly hate you over this. You have been and continue to be terrific. Personally, it has been hard on me most nights to do exports. I still enjoy running my teams, but it has been difficult to invest the time needed to really do it right. And I know there are things I should be doing that I forgo to do my exports. So dropping a league for a bit or going to one league makes sense from that perspective, too.

Sorry to hear about FOOLx shuttering for a while. I'm sure once baseball season kicks off, there will be more interest.
I'd like to say one thing, and make it abundantly clear. My decision to leave the leagues has NOTHING to do with how Dan, or anyone, ran the leagues. I simply got bored and it became a chore for me to do every day. I wish I had the passion to continue and maybe even take up the league, but I'm just burnt out.

Sorry to hear FOOLX is retiring. Like I recently mentioned I think X is the league I enjoy more. 1-10 player ratings and New FA Comp System are just a couple of reasons why. That said, I understand the decision and will do my best to get Tokyo going in FOOL.
Seems to me like Dan has found some fun stuff to do outside of the house with his new found freedom. I can't blame him. Ogling MILF's at Starbucks > Running Fake Baseball League. Kidding, I know these things can get time consuming so hopefully just managing the one league will put less of a burden on you. To push this a bit further, is it time to retire both leagues and perhaps start fresh with some minor tweaks? The mood here has been a bit like a morgue, I can't help but thinking a new setup would help us pump some life into things. We could keep most of the settings the same. Lessen the amount of teams if we can't find new blood. As far as other changes go we could start a new thread and discuss any other changes the group would like to make. I'm not saying I'm dying to send FOOL to the grave but perhaps it's run it's course and it's time to start fresh and reinvigorate this thing.

As much as I think FOOL-rebooted would be fun, the best part of FOOL is not just competing with the teams from this season, but from teams in the past 200 seasons too. When you break a record, you deserve it!!
It's a sad day...but I totally understand. I have had to leave FOOL several times due to reallife...it happens! There is nothing worse then forcing yourself to export. I'm struggling right now to find time, and I wish i had more time to talk trade which is really the best part... But it's so tough. I remember the days when we'd have 8 lurkers in the season thread following post by post talking FOOL and just talking...usually waiting because Cheif asked for a few minutes extra to tweek his lineups! Anyways... Cutting my Ootp leagues by half may give me the time I need to better focus on my remaining team... I play fast paced for the career aspect, and i'd hate to lose that history. I REALLY dont want to lose FOOL. I proudly say I am a key player in the only online league i am aware of with more seasons of history then real life baseball. I would rather tweek fool than start over.... I have no idea how though. I remember the ol monday night sim, watching football and talking trash while my at the time Baltimore Tarpons miss out on the playoffs but just a game to Alan's Overachieving Valdosta squad then spending thenext day at work with 7hr long trade negotiations with muns to aquire a utility infielder....anyways... Im off on a tangent here. Moral of the story.... Maybe we can brainstorm ways to reinvigorate FOOL and put FOOLX on hiatus.

What I might do on the season sim is move it back an hour. Having only one sim to do makes it to where I don't have to hurry through it.
I think I'd rather just keep going with FOOL as we've been doing all this time. I agree with Eric on the career aspect and breaking records. That part of FOOL just can't be replaced. Thank you everyone for the understanding. I'll keep FOOLX laying around in case we need to get her fired up again. |

Is there any way to make FOOL-X a solo file? I would like to continue the league playing solo - if that's even possible?

Its possible but you'll have to let me change the password beforehand. I have to change that 1st because the password matches FOOL. I have to leave in a matter of minutes so I'll get it up this afternoon if that's ok? |

Can you set all teams to AI and just undo all passwords? That would probably be more ideal for solo play, right?

I haven't forgotten the file. It took way longer then I thought it would today so I apologize. I had to go get my state ID renewed and drove all the way there sat and waited for my turn and I didn't have everything I needed. I then came home and got the stuff I needed and then did it all over again. ANGRY WITH MYSELF!!!!
I'll work on it tonight though so ASAP. Again sorry its taking so long. Last edited by hyde4us11 : 02-01-2013 at 05:48 PM. |

Don't sweat it, Dan. While I am sure there are several of us who would be interested in the file, I doubt any of us are sitting here desperately waiting for it. Do it on your own time and when have the chance and motivation to do it. Thanks, as alaways.

Alright the FOOLX file has been updated. You'll have to login as me with the password as 1234567890 and then go into online options and take the check mark out of the enable online league mode.
