Baltimore's Lemieux Top CL Batter in April

Sylvain Lemieux of the Gothams hit .333 in April with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

RL Honors Draper, Best Hitter in April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2199
When Brad Draper stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Colorado right fielder posted a .333 batting average with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 29 runs. Draper also worked pitchers for 5 walks to post a .358 on-base percentage.

Kogawa Is April's Best CL Hurler

Kanjiro Kogawa's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 32-year-old Leduc hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 31 in 45 innings, logged an ERA of 1.60 and allowed opponents to hit .204 against him.

April's Starter of the Month Goes to Pérez

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Reynaldo Pérez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 33-year-old starter for Hammersmith was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 29 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.33 ERA in 38.2 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Carlos Valadez earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Brooklyn second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Valadez hit .318 with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Youngster Mike Benjamin emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .302 with 1 home run and 10 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Benjamin enjoy the limelight.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Gagnon

The premier hitter in the Continental League in May was Noblesville right fielder Marcel Gagnon. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Gagnon was selected after batting .287, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 23 runs and driving in 23.

Currently Gagnon is batting .275 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

Carlos Rodríguez Named Best RL Batter in May

May's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Atlanta first baseman, Carlos Rodríguez.

He starred by hitting .342 with a .405 on-base percentage, totaled 39 hits in 114 at-bats, 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

This season in 55 games, Rodríguez has hit at a .357 clip with 79 hits, 18 home runs, 53 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

CL's Top Pitcher in May Is Ortíz

Veteran Rafael Ortíz put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Leduc Bullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Ortíz racked up a 5-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 1.07 ERA over 50.2 innings and striking out 47.

In 12 starts this season Ortíz has compiled a 8-1 record and a 1.74 ERA.

Rosbottom Top RL Starter in May
Saturday, June 1st, 2199
May's top hurler was Jake Rosbottom of Colorado . He shackled Republic League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 4-0 mark.

The 31-year-old Rosbottom added 25 strikeouts in 39.2 innings and 5 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.04 ERA. Other clubs hit .224 against him.

This season Rosbottom has compiled a 6-3 record with a 3.77 ERA in 11 starts.

Kawamura Named May's #1 Newcomer

Toshimichi Kawamura's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Leduc center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .345 with 4 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Kawamura also scored 12 times and drove in 14 runs.

For the season Kawamura is currently batting .297 with 6 home runs and 29 RBIs. In 51 games he has reached base at a .377 rate and scored 25 runs to date.

Ann Arbor First Baseman May's #1 Rookie

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Mike Benjamin just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old first baseman for Ann Arbor hit .288 with 36 hits, 1 home run and 13 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .316 on-base percentage.

Presently Benjamin is batting .295 with 71 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 23 runs and scored 28 times.

Miranda Takes Best Bat Trophy in June

Juan Miranda has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for June.

In 27 games the Leduc batter hit .344 with 9 home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Miranda has banged out 81 hits in 287 at-bats for a .282 average with 22 home runs. He is getting on base at a .323 pace and his totals also include 55 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

RL's Premier Batter Picked

A hot-hitting Mathieu Coutu punished RL pitchers in June, hitting .314 in 28 games while racking up 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Tokyo's 28-year-old right fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

So far this season Coutu has gotten 109 hits in 330 at-bats for a .330 batting average with 25 home runs. His stats include 80 RBIs and 60 runs scored. He has played in 81 games.

Medellín Earns June's Best Pitcher Honor

It was a monstrous June for the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner, José Medellín of the Cleveland Cyclones. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Medellín recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 7 starts. Throwing a total of 49.1 innings, he yielded 32 hits, mowed down 31 on strikes, gave up 9 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.09 in a stellar month on the mound.

So far this year Medellín has 9 wins and 3 losses and a 2.23 ERA.

Murakami Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy

The Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Tomohiko Murakami had been selected as June's Republic League Pitcher of the Month. Murakami's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Murakami said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Murakami tossed 41 innings last month, holding opponents to a .201 average while striking out 33 batters. In 6 starting assignments he came away with a 4-1 record, putting together an ERA of 1.54.

This season Murakami has registered 9 wins and 5 losses in 17 starts with a 3.11 ERA.

Luis Álvarez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .288 average with 15 hits, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.

In his season totals, Álvarez has 4 home runs, .246 BA, .297 OBP, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has played in 67 games.

Rodríguez Wins CL's Best Bat Trophy

Aurelio Rodríguez is in the final year of his contract with Brooklyn and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 25 games in July the 31-year-old center fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .330 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 10 home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

If Rodríguez keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This year Rodríguez is batting .285 with 125 hits, 31 home runs, 89 RBIs, 21 walks, .326 OBP and has scored 58 runs.

Demers Top Hitter in RL in July

Samuel Demers battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Demers told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Demers hit .412 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Currently Demers is batting .331 with 30 home runs and 96 RBIs.

July's CL Top Pitcher is Bullets Ortíz

Rafael Ortíz really put his best foot forward in July with 4 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Continental League. When he got the start for the Leduc Bullets, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 42.2 innings of work, Ortíz limited opposing batters to 30 base hits and a .197 batting average. He notched 35 strikeouts, issued 6 walks and had a 2.11 ERA.

In 25 starts this season Ortíz has recorded a 13-3 record and a 2.22 ERA.

RL #1 Pitcher in July is Hartford's Donahue

In July Hartford starter Domenic Donahue mystified Republic League hitters and carried off the Pitcher of the Month honors by chalking up a 5-0 record in 6 starts.

The 25-year-old Donahue added 23 strikeouts in 43.1 innings and 12 walks to his season record and compiled a 3.74 ERA. Opposing batters hit .300 against him.

This year Donahue has fanned 82 in 135.1 innings and collected a 10-4 record with a 4.85 ERA.

Brooklyn Second Baseman Best Rookie

July's choice for Continental League Rookie of the Month is Carlos Valadez of Brooklyn.

The talented second baseman started 17 games, hit .329 with a .427 OBP. For the month, he totaled 23 hits, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

This season Valadez is batting .273 with 9 home runs. He has scored 59 runs and driven in 33.

The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Justin Barber did all month long to net the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

Great August Gets Valadez CL Best Hitter Award

The premier hitter in the Republic League in August was Tokyo catcher Jorge Vásquez. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Vásquez was selected after batting .382, hitting 5 home runs, scoring 21 runs and driving in 25.

In this current campaign Vásquez is hitting at a .319 clip with 21 home runs and 103 RBIs.

August's Top Hurler is Medellín

Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-1 with a 1.97 ERA, José Medellín was selected as August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Cleveland starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

José Medellín definitely contributed to the club. He had 7 starts, throwing 45.2 innings, striking out 28, and holding the opposition to a .242 average.

In season stats Medellín shows a 18-6 record in 34 games, 213 innings, 142 strikeouts and a 2.03 ERA.

Reporters caught up with the elated Cleveland starter as he left the clubhouse. "I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start." José Medellín definitely contributed to the club. He had 7 starts, throwing 45.2 innings, striking out 28, and holding the opposition to a .242 average. In season stats Medellín shows a 18-6 record in 34 games, 213 innings, 142 strikeouts and a 2.03 ERA. Pérez Gets August's Top Pitcher Trophy Sunday, September 1st, 2199 It's official! Ricardo Pérez of the Hartford Riverhawks is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month. In August he dominated the league with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts. In 40.2 innings of work Pérez chalked up 21 strikeouts, 14 walks, a 2.43 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .190 batting average. On the season Pérez has a 13-11 record with a 3.86 ERA. The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise. RL Honors Draper, Best Hitter in April Wednesday, May 1st, 2199 When Brad Draper stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award. The young Colorado right fielder posted a .333 batting average with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 29 runs. Draper also worked pitchers for 5 walks to post a .358 on-base percentage.

After going 5-0 in April, the 32-year-old Leduc hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 31 in 45 innings, logged an ERA of 1.60 and allowed opponents to hit .204 against him. April's Starter of the Month Goes to Pérez Wednesday, May 1st, 2199 Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Reynaldo Pérez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 33-year-old starter for Hammersmith was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 29 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.33 ERA in 38.2 innings of work.

For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month. Gagnon was selected after batting .287, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 23 runs and driving in 23. Currently Gagnon is batting .275 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 34 runs scored. Carlos Rodríguez Named Best RL Batter in May Saturday, June 1st, 2199 May's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Atlanta first baseman, Carlos Rodríguez. He starred by hitting .342 with a .405 on-base percentage, totaled 39 hits in 114 at-bats, 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 20 runs. This season in 55 games, Rodríguez has hit at a .357 clip with 79 hits, 18 home runs, 53 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

The young Leduc center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .345 with 4 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Kawamura also scored 12 times and drove in 14 runs. For the season Kawamura is currently batting .297 with 6 home runs and 29 RBIs. In 51 games he has reached base at a .377 rate and scored 25 runs to date. Ann Arbor First Baseman May's #1 Rookie Saturday, June 1st, 2199 A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Mike Benjamin just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May. Over the past month the 25-year-old first baseman for Ann Arbor hit .288 with 36 hits, 1 home run and 13 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .316 on-base percentage. Presently Benjamin is batting .295 with 71 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 23 runs and scored 28 times.

In 27 games the Leduc batter hit .344 with 9 home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored. This season Miranda has banged out 81 hits in 287 at-bats for a .282 average with 22 home runs. He is getting on base at a .323 pace and his totals also include 55 RBIs and 45 runs scored. RL's Premier Batter Picked Monday, July 1st, 2199 A hot-hitting Mathieu Coutu punished RL pitchers in June, hitting .314 in 28 games while racking up 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored. With those numbers it came as no surprise that Tokyo's 28-year-old right fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors. So far this season Coutu has gotten 109 hits in 330 at-bats for a .330 batting average with 25 home runs. His stats include 80 RBIs and 60 runs scored. He has played in 81 games.

He put up some mighty scary numbers. Medellín recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 7 starts. Throwing a total of 49.1 innings, he yielded 32 hits, mowed down 31 on strikes, gave up 9 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.09 in a stellar month on the mound. So far this year Medellín has 9 wins and 3 losses and a 2.23 ERA. Murakami Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy Monday, July 1st, 2199 The Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Tomohiko Murakami had been selected as June's Republic League Pitcher of the Month. Murakami's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic. "Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Murakami said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs." Murakami tossed 41 innings last month, holding opponents to a .201 average while striking out 33 batters. In 6 starting assignments he came away with a 4-1 record, putting together an ERA of 1.54. This season Murakami has registered 9 wins and 5 losses in 17 starts with a 3.11 ERA.

Playing in 25 games in July the 31-year-old center fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .330 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award. He also rang up 10 home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored. If Rodríguez keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money. This year Rodríguez is batting .285 with 125 hits, 31 home runs, 89 RBIs, 21 walks, .326 OBP and has scored 58 runs. Demers Top Hitter in RL in July Thursday, August 1st, 2199 Samuel Demers battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Demers told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 25 games, Demers hit .412 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 23 runs. Currently Demers is batting .331 with 30 home runs and 96 RBIs.

When he got the start for the Leduc Bullets, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition. In 42.2 innings of work, Ortíz limited opposing batters to 30 base hits and a .197 batting average. He notched 35 strikeouts, issued 6 walks and had a 2.11 ERA. In 25 starts this season Ortíz has recorded a 13-3 record and a 2.22 ERA. RL #1 Pitcher in July is Hartford's Donahue Thursday, August 1st, 2199 In July Hartford starter Domenic Donahue mystified Republic League hitters and carried off the Pitcher of the Month honors by chalking up a 5-0 record in 6 starts. The 25-year-old Donahue added 23 strikeouts in 43.1 innings and 12 walks to his season record and compiled a 3.74 ERA. Opposing batters hit .300 against him. This year Donahue has fanned 82 in 135.1 innings and collected a 10-4 record with a 4.85 ERA.

The talented second baseman started 17 games, hit .329 with a .427 OBP. For the month, he totaled 23 hits, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 13 runs scored. This season Valadez is batting .273 with 9 home runs. He has scored 59 runs and driven in 33. Top Rookie of the Month Named by RL Thursday, August 1st, 2199 The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Justin Barber did all month long to net the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award. In July he slapped 29 hits in 78 at-bats for a .372 batting average. Barber also racked up 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. Barber is hitting .307 this year with 12 home runs, 45 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has 106 hits in 345 at-bats, 26 walks and a .361 on-base percentage. Barber has played in 97 games.

Over that stretch Valadez batted .322 with 29 hits in 90 at-bats, collecting 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 runs scored. A look at his season totals shows Valadez with 16 home runs, .284 BA, .374 OBP, 52 RBIs and 81 runs scored. Great Month for RL Rookie Sunday, September 1st, 2199 Justin Barber sure isn't playing like the rookie he is. The 25-year-old center fielder for Hartford is rapping the ball like a seasoned veteran in the Republic League and today he took home the Rookie of the Month Award for his effort. In August, Barber compiled a .380 batting average. He drove in 17 runs, hit 4 home runs and scored 19 times. This season in 124 games Barber is batting .324 with 16 home runs, 62 RBIs and has scored 69 times.
