Season's Best Fielders Selected by CL
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2129 What does it take to win a Slick Fielder Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of: Pitcher: Jay Allen (Washington Freedom) Catcher: Jack Gehrke (Havana Banana Sluggers) First Baseman: David Pérez (Alberta Renegades) Second Baseman: Jesús Miranda (Manchester Terriers) Third Baseman: Ieyoshi Sato (Oshawa Mullets) Shortstop: José Cortéz (Washington Freedom) Left Fielder: Miguel Guerra (London Bishops) Center Fielder: Sergio Sendejo (Omaha Bees) Right Fielder: Mike Moffat (Manchester Terriers) Top Fielders Honored by Republic League Wednesday, November 2nd, 2129 Defense is a critical element in the game of baseball. Many times late in the game, a light-hitting defensive specialist will be inserted in place of a superstar hitter. Good defenders are worth their weight in gold and today the best of them for 2129 have been recognized. These players will receive the Republic League Slick Fielder Award: Pitcher: Bill Sawyer (Maricopa Rattlers) Catcher: Francisco Aguilar (Spring Lions) First Baseman: Joaquín Sosa (Chicago Hitmen) Second Baseman: Félix Pérez (Cleveland Naps) Third Baseman: Frank Barnes (Spring Lions) Shortstop: Myles Kennett (Chicago Hitmen) Left Fielder: Greg Jackson (Cleveland Naps) Center Fielder: Cole MacNeill (Portland Axemen) Right Fielder: Andrés Gonzáles (Waikiki Beach Boys) |

Thursday, November 3rd, 2129 It was a standout 2129 season for Danny Hunt. The third baseman for the Alberta Renegades has been named the winner of the Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award. He hit .304 in 157 games with 176 hits and 78 RBIs and scored 65 runs. It is no longer a rumor -- the Republic League made it official today. Pépin won the award by hitting .291 and collecting 180 hits, 22 home runs, 90 RBIs and 47 walks. I had a critical decision to make this sim. Long time ace Luis Aragon, who is 30, was asking for an $80-something M contract over nine years. I knew he would sign for less, but I figured the per annum wouldn't be much lower, and I was right.
My problem is that over the next three years, my other young starters, which are the basis for the recent success I have had, will also come up for deals. Aragon was clearly my second best pitcher, but I have rotation depth. It would not have been a poor decision to let him go and not take that cap hit at $8+ M per year. The problem is that, after all of the young pitchers are up for contract, the last one up for a new deal is Sam Big Shot Ledoux, who has just won two Mauro Morales awards in his first two seasons. I know I will sign him to whatever he wants, but that will come at a cost. So my decision came down to, keep Aragon and likely let those middle level young pitchers go (Calhoun, Renny, Schitt) and then keep Ledoux, or let Aragon go, and have a good chance to keep at least two of Calhoun and Renny before signing Ledoux to his big deal. I guess we'll see how it woks out in the end. Aragon and Ledoux will likely command at least 1/4 of my cap space, but I still need to be able to field a lineup and a bullpen.

Hmmm...I think that 6th year gave Reyes to Cleveland. I had the similar per year value.
