A friend of my mother lives in Evansville, IN....so my mom and sister are going to Evansville July 1 - 5. I was asked to go and I figured what the heck, it would be a cheap "vacation". Is anyone from around there? Is there anything to do there? I haven't really looked.

I was hoping to go to a Cardinals game but that is 3 hours away from Evansville. Is there any minor league teams in the area?

How about golf courses?

I was thinking we had at least one person from around there.

Haha, uneventful. I have a couple leads but in reality I am to busy to try anything serious, school full-time and work full-time plus baseball practice and games.

I think the Evansville Otters of an independent league are there. Louisville isn't too far and they have a AAA affiliate. Also, I think there are river casinos in the city, at least I remember from my dad telling me about his high school reunion.

I don't know how far it was from Evansville, but I remember going caving in southern Indiana, near Louisville.

Go to St. Louis.

I've went to a lot of baseball cities, New York, Chicago (Cubs), Cincinatti, Philly, and St. Louis ... and St. Louis is BY FAR the best baseball town I've ever been to. It's incredible.

Whatever you do though, don't wait until the last minute to get tickets, you won't be able to.

I'm in Indianapolis, and I've been to a couple of Cards games. Amazing fans they have. Also, we have a minor league team with a great new stadium here in Indianapolis. I have never driven to Evansville, so I don't know how far it is. I can only imagine it's a couple hours though.

Hope you have fun, but I'm not sure how much there is to do there.

Definitely go to an Otter's game. They play in Bosse Field, which is the third oldest park in baseball (after Wrigley and Fenway) and was used to film scenes from A League Of Their Own (name of Racine Peaches or something was still painted on the I beams). Park used to be home to Evansville Triplets AAA minor league team of Detroit Tigers (1984 World Series team all came up from there including present day manager Alan Trammell and coaches Kirk Gibson and Lance Parish.) Good atmosphere and cheap eats (was quarter hotdog night when I went.)

I'm surprised Cringer hasn't mentioned something about him driving through Evansville.

You better find somewhere to take a day trip or two to soon or you're going to end up spending your vacation eating lunch at Applebees and then hitting antique stores all day with mom, sis, and mom's friend. The positive is that maybe she will end up being a MILF?

I already know this is not the case.

I should be able to make it to the Otters game on Saturday. I also found a golf course that looks good, the Hooter's Tour and Nike Tour both play there.

Evansville, huh? I'm from Owensboro, Kentucky. We used to go up to Evansville all the time. It was the closest "big town" to us (a shorter drive than Louisville). I'm sure Evansville probably has a minor league team of some kind (they had one when I was still at home, but that was a long time ago).

I'm from Evansville. Great little town... Try Fast Eddie's if you're looking for a bar on one of the evenings. It's right across the street from the Casino Aztar and has great burgers. As for Golf Courses, not sure which one you're playing, but you can play a Hamilton 18 in about 3.5-4 hours and it's not busy in the afternoons at all. It's up 41-North... Used to be my favorite course in the city due to its location and availability... only about a par 68-70 though, not very long.

If you have any other questions, PM me...

Quail Crossing was the name of the course, looks real nice.

I figure I can see the baseball game Saturday, golf Sunday, and who knows what on Monday.

Good Roast Beef Sandwiches? Ummm... hmmm... Sir Beef? It's like an Arby's... wouldn't call it good though...

As far as restaurants:

Acropolis (Greek place on Green River Rd)
The Deerhead Tavern (Columbia off I-41)
Kiplee's (Sports Bar off of Lloyd Expwy on Boeke)

Have fun Balldog...

Got it figured out....

Friday - Going straight to St. Louis to see the Arch (for mom and sis) then going to the Rockies-Cards game.

Saturday - Heading to Evansville, checking out an Otters game at night.

Sunday - Golfing at that Quail Crossing

Should be fun...

What other baseball cities have you been to?

Let me know what you think of St. Louis as a baseball town.

St. Louis was cool, I felt like shit though. Driving 8 hours with little sleep the night before and a cold, makes for a less enjoyable experience I would think. The guy beside us said Friday nights crowd was one of the smallest of the year as well. $9 for a fuckin beer is just plain stupid.

The Otters game was quite fun. $3 for a beer was great!

Seeing an Otter's game is what got me hooked on minor league ball. 18-21 year old kids playing their hearts out for a chance to hook up with an affiliated minor league team, cheap eats and drinks, great family atmosphere. No wonder minor league ball is booming nationwide.

Allow me for a second to defend Busch stadium. $9 is the cost for a 24 oz beer so you are really paying $4.50 a beer. Not cheap, but not quite the outragous price it sounds like. This is not a post meant to rag on you but I have been through this arguement with my friends many times. They refuse to drink at Cardinal games (or try to smuggle a flask in) but on other nights they want to hang out at a Martini bar that charges $10 for a well drink of Vodka which I am 99% certain is draining from a $8 jug of Popov. You could have gotten a 12 oz beer for around $5 if you find the right stand. (The vendors sell 16 oz beers) Having been to several stadiums this isn't much more or less than anywhere else.

I think 24 oz. beers are 8.50 or so at Comerica Park, so thats relatively close. However, if it is Busch beer being served at Busch Stadium, then you got jobbed.

Agreed, there was this one dude though for the Richmond Roosters. He hit a homerun the first time up and he thought he was the shit the rest of the game, it was pitch black dark out and he would still wear his sunglasses to the plate and strut around like he was Barry Bonds or something. If my family hadn't been there I'd been giving him a ton of shit.
