Quick Question on Blocking

I know it's obvious that pass blocking relates to passing and run blocking to rushing but what effect does the rating 'blocking strength' have? Don't the pass and run blocking ratings tell you all you need to know about blocking?

Blocking strength goes against pass rush strength
Pass block goes against pass rush technique

Run block goes against run defense.

Interesting. Thanks!

Guess that makes things a little more complex in determining who is a good offensive lineman for pass protection?

Well it depends on who you are facing, if in your division and conference PRT is king, then PB, if it's PRS then BS

Understand mostly (and thanks!) but why would it be different if it's an inter-conference game?

It wouldn't, I think he's just saying that since almost every game you play will be against people in your conference it is more important to take their PRT/PRS into account than teams you'll likely never face.

Does this come from anywhere in particular? {skeptical}

sooo blocking strength has no affect in the run game? I always thought it was somehow correlated in part to pancake blocks.

Thanks for the info on pass rush strength I had no idea

The help file does state this:

"Blocking Strength: Ability to block a down lineman on a passing play."

What does "goes against" mean to you? I'm not sure I agree with the inference that you can pick and choose your matchups in the way you suggest. Intrigued by the idea... do you simply need to "win" or is everything marginal (and there for the matchup advice lessened, or even meaningless)?

I did not know this, definitely going to try and play with where the DL lines up in the future to take advantage of mismatches since a lot of DL only have 1 strong pass rush bar and a lot of average OL dont have strong pbk and block strength

I used to invest a lot of time into finding thse types of matchups both in the trenches and attackign CBs and LBs weaknesses, you will be dissapointed in the results but I still do it a bit for sure.
