NCAA 2004: RU Ready? (2006 season)

The 2005 season is in the books. We finally cracked thru to one of the BCS bowl games before a dissapointing loss. Is 2006 our year to win?

2005 season/recruiting
2005 results: 12-2, lost to Oklahoma 20-15 in the Fiesta Bowl

2004 season/ recruiting
2004 Results: 10-3, beat Oregon in the Insight Bowl - 70-21

2003 season/ recruiting
2003 Results: 12-1, Beat Washington in the Insight Bowl 23-20 OT

I'll start things off by going through the roster, prior to the cuts we must make.

The Roster - Offensive Backfield

Quarterbacks, Grade: B-

Kyle Hobbs (RS Sophomore) - 6'4, 205 Lbs.
OVR: 80, SPD: 68, AWR: 65, AGI: 73 ACC: 67 THP: 81, THA: 79

Tommie Herron (Freshman) - 6'1, 195 Lbs.
OVR: 80, SPD: 75, AWR: 54, AGI: 74 ACC: 72, THP: 78, THA: 87

Brendan Eldridge (Freshman) - 6'4, 234 Lbs.
OVR: 77, SPD: 72, AWR: 44, AGI: 72, ACC: 74, THP: 87, THA: 83

Brooks Spencer (Freshman) - 6'4, 198 Lbs.
OVR: 77, SPD: 60, AWR: 53, AGI: 59, ACC: 60, THP: 81, THA: 85

Analysis: I haven't even decided on a starter yet, it's between Herron and Eldridge tho. Hobbs could be cut

Halfbacks, Grade: B-

Markis Facyson (RS Senior) - 5'10, 200 Lbs
OVR: 85, SPD: 80, STR: 66, AWR: 92, AGI: 76, ACC: 75, CTH: 65, CAR: 73, BTK: 74, PBK: 43, RBK: 43

Dan York (RS Freshman) - 5'11, 212 Lbs
OVR: 80, SPD: 82, STR: 66, AWR: 51, AGI: 83, ACC: 85, CTH: 57, CAR: 67, BTK: 71, PBK: 40, RBK: 39

Andrew Sloan (Sophomore) - 6'2, 210 Lbs
OVR: 79, SPD: 80, STR: 64, AWR: 52, AGI: 83, ACC: 85, CTH: 59, CAR: 66, BTK: 66, PBK: 41, RBK: 42

James Kendrick (Freshman) - 6'1, 207 Lbs
OVR: 77, SPD: 83, STR: 59, AWR: 41, AGI: 81, ACC: 84, CTH: 62, CAR: 69, BTK: 65, PBK: 40, RBK: 42

Seymour Molina (RS Freshman) - 6'1, 182 Lbs
OVR: 75, SPD: 80, STR: 55, AWR: 52, AGI: 78, ACC: 74, CTH: 63, CAR: 68, BTK: 61, PBK: 46, RBK: 45

Analysis: Facyson gets the starting nod after his All-American caliber year. York gets the backup nod, Sloan will redshirt and Kendrick maybe the 3rd RB if we only carry 4 HBs into th season.

Fullbacks, Grade: C

Mike Ritschel (Freshman) - 6'2, 230 Lbs.
OVR: 77, SPD: 80, STR: 65, AWR: 65, AGI: 82, ACC: 82, CTH: 70, CAR: 69, BTK: 69, PBK: 47, RBK: 47

Claude Gatlin (Freshman) - 6'3, 274 Lbs
OVR: 68, SPD: 51, STR: 72, AWR: 52, AGI: 82, ACC: 49, CTH: 57, CAR: 65, BTK: 63, PBK: 48, RBK: 65

Trey Williamson (Freshman) - 6'1, 245 Lbs
OVR: 67, SPD: 60, STR: 64, AWR: 46, AGI: 62, ACC: 66, CTH: 57, CAR: 63, BTK: 67, PBK: 53, RBK: 59

Ramon James, (Senior) - 6'2, 245 Lbs.
OVR: 64, SPD: 56, STR: 64, AWR: 51, AGI: 58, ACC: 56, CTH: 56, CAR: 66, BTK: 63, PBK: 48, RBK: 65

Analysis: Ritschel will be the starting FB, but I havent decided on a backup yet. Ramon James will almost certainly be a roster size casualty.

The Roster - Receiving Corps

Wide Receivers, Grade: B-

Josh Hendricks (Sophomore) - 6'3, 191 Lbs
OVR: 82, SPD: 87, AWR: 53, AGI: 95, ACC: 92, CTH: 81, JMP: 92, RBK: 37

John Galt (RS Freshman) - 6'3, 186 Lbs
OVR: 82, SPD: 90, AWR: 74, AGI: 89, ACC: 84, CTH: 81, JMP: 76, RBK: 47

OVR: 80, SPD: 89, AWR: 58, AGI: 88, ACC: 90, CTH: 74, JMP: 96, RBK: 40

Corey Barnes (RS Senior) - 5'8, 169 Lbs
OVR: 79, SPD: 79, AWR: 94, AGI: 84, ACC: 85, CTH: 73, JMP: 77, RBK: 41

Jacque Crayton (Freshman) - 6'2, 196 Lbs
OVR: 76, SPD: 87, AWR: 41, AGI: 90, ACC: 92, CTH: 73, JMP: 96, RBK: 39

Rodney Monroe (RS Freshman) - 6'0, 214 Lbs
OVR: 69, SPD: 79, AWR: 64, AGI: 74, ACC: 77, CTH: 75, JMP: 71, RBK: 45

Analysis: Galt is gonna be our flanker, while Hendricks will be our split end. Dodd gives us a good speed option in the slot, and Barnes and Monroe give us depth. Crayton will redshirt this year, unless we have some serious injury problems.

Tight Ends, Grade: B-

Samuel Johnson (RS Junior) - 6'3, 246 Lbs
OVR: 82, SPD: 71, STR: 69, AWR: 80, CTH: 77, CAR: 68, BTK: 68, PBK: 59, RBK: 64

Derrell Humphrey (RS Sophomore) - 6'4, 246 Lbs
OVR: 76, SPD: 77, STR: 56, AWR: 77, CTH: 78, CAR: 62, BTK: 54, PBK: 48, RBK: 56

Analysis: Sam Johnson had another solid year in 2005. We need to work Humphrey into the offense more, throw some more passes at him in the goal line and 2 TE I formation sets we run.

OVR: 78, SPD: 68, STR: 68, AWR: 57, AGI: 71, ACC: 73, CTH: 57, TAK: 78

Analysis: Beckford and Hutchinson are still the starters, while Miller will redshirt. Gatlin will be the backup.

Middle Linebackers, Grade: B+

MLB Brady Huff (Junior) - 6'0, 227 Lbs
OVR: 94, SPD: 84, STR: 77, AWR: 70, AGI: 92, ACC: 86, CTH: 62, TAK: 90

OVR: 73, SPD: 78, AWR: 63, AGI: 78, ACC: 82, CTH: 55, JMP: 79, TAK: 46

Analysis: Gant and Kramer are our starting CBs. Adrian Gary will be the nickelback, while Jonathan Duncan plays the Dime. Collier will redshirt this season, and I think Fred Lavin will be a victim of the cut.

Free Safeties, Grade: B-,

Brett Irvin (Freshman) - 6'0, 184 Lbs
OVR: 82, SPD: 86, AWR: 54, AGI: 85, ACC: 86, CTH: 68, JMP: 87, TAK: 66

OVR: 78, SPD: 86, AWR: 51, AGI: 78, ACC: 89, CTH: 64, JMP: 88, TAK: 66

Strong Safeties, Grade: B

Maximus Meridius (Junior) - 6'4, 206 Lbs
OVR: 91, SPD: 80, AWR: 89, AGI: 84, ACC: 82, CTH: 63, JMP: 62, TAK: 86

OVR: 74, SPD: 76, AWR: 59, AGI: 83, ACC: 86, CTH: 59, JMP: 80, TAK: 69

Analysis: Maximus is coming off an all-american year. Bridges will get the backup nod, and its looking like Sanford will be cut.

Kickers, Grade: C+

Justin Apollo (Freshman) - 5'10, 190 Lbs
OVR: 77, AWR: 65, KPW: 84, KAC: 88

J.D. Williams (RS Freshman) - 5'10, 176 Lbs
OVR: 68, AWR: 53, KPW: 77, KAC: 83

Analysis: Justin Apollo is going to get the starting nod here, and since we don't need 2 kickers, Williams will be cut.

Punters, Grade: C+

Adam Slaughter (Freshman) - 6'1, 191 Lbs
OVR: 73, AWR: 48, KPW: 88, KAC: 83

Corey Bolden (Junior) - 6'2, 194 Lbs
OVR: 73, AWR: 54, KPW: 82, KAC: 86

Analysis: Slaughter will be our punter for the 2006 season since I'd rather have a punter for 4 years than just 2. Bolden will be one of the 1st cuts we make.

LOL Being on the depth chart isnt necessarily a bad thing, as I've noticed the game gives credit for a redshirt year if a player doesn't play at all during the year.

What kind of curve do they grade these teams on? The worst team has all C's.

I believe is based on the average rating of the players on the team. Thus a team could have a lot of quality starters, but not much depth and be rated equal to a team that doesnt have starters who are as good, but has alot more depth.

Post Game Coach's Thoughts

That was a great confidence building win for our program. We got off to a slow start, but as the game progressed we built up speed, and our superior depth shown through. All of our FOFCers made really solid contributions.

Offense: We had trouble running the ball in the first half, but we did a nice job passing the ball, and we're able to pick up some mid range FGs which we might not have converted last year. In the second half the running game improved, and we were able to pick up some quality chunks of yardage, but I think we need to work on some new rushing plays. Only 1 interception thrown was a good sign as well.

Defense: We had a good pass rush today and shut down their running game, but our pass defense was not strong. At times we bent, but we never broke and we're able to convert some turnovers directly into points.

Special Teams: We made all our kicks, we didn't have to punt, and we brought a punt back for a TD. All in all, a good game.

I might have to move you into a kick return spot down the line. I'm not sure if right now is the right time for it tho.

This game is our 1st of several big tests in the 2006 campaign. We're coming off of a great confidence building win over Miami of Ohio, but today is a whol new game. Georgia came into ouR hoUse and we did what we had to do. We had a solid but not spectacular running game going. We threw the ball well with a couple of deep shots down field and no interceptions, and we turned turnovers into points. Throw in some nice work by our punt and kick cover teams and you have the recipe for a win over a Top 25 foe.

Offense: Herron is really looking great in his early season action. Facyson isn't running the ball as well as he did last year or even 2 years ago when he was the backup, but we haven't given him the ton of carries that we need to get a RB into the groove. Dan York is a very good backup HB, and will most likely get the starting nod next year. John Galt has emerged as the go to receiver, but we need to work Josh Hendricks into the starting lineup much more.

Defense: Our secondary didn't perform up to expectations. We gave up way too much passing yardage, no matter who our opponent was. Our DLine and LBs did a good job of containing the run and pressuring the QB for the most part.

Special Teams: Adam Slaughter did a good job of punting the ball where our kick coverage team could prevent Georgia from running the ball at all. Apollo made all the kicks we asked him to make, but I'm not sure if he has the leg to be the full time kick off guy. I'm gonna give Slaughter a shot to do the job against Iowa, at least for the 1st half.
