This is a catering to the fans. You can possibly cater to the fans.

Here's what I've been told from a source that worked on TROS. : saltierthancrait

Some interesting info in there about Disney interfering with JJ's vision.

Further proves Disney butchered the whole thing.

Thanks for that. It fits, and is really disappointing if it's accurate.

The next Star Wars film saga to be set during the High Republic era! | Making Star Wars

This sounds pretty interesting to me. Question is how well Disney can pull it off.

If Disney can pull off what they did with the Marvel movies from "Iron Man" to "Avengers: End Game", I zero doubts that they can pull off a good Star Wars series.

I have a hard time seeing Disney as the problem with Star Wars. So far, they've knocked it out of the park with "The Mandalorian." "Rogue One" was great. The ReyLo Saga, while it had some problems, was infinitely better than the prequels, which were total garbage.

What's the difference between that and "fan service"?

Oh sorry, I thought it was the Lando thing.

I'm 100% sure people would have complained if Lando had a cameo in the Canto Bight scenes. Hell, I've heard that he was "wasted" with such a small role in Episode 9.

His role in Episode 9 wasn't terribly different from his role in Return of The Jedi.

Finally got a chance to watch it last weekend, and liked it more than I thought I would based on what I'd heard. The tone was very different to what I expected with even a touch of horror mixed in, and it was certainly a lot more "straight ahead" than the other films, with next to no side story. Normally that's a negative, but I think it worked OK here - the pacing felt like a two hour episode of Clone Wars.

I found the fan service scenes a bit heavy-handed as usual and I wonder if that's due to the number of other scenes that were cut with all of these (presumably) staying in. The cuts do seem a bit jarring as there were a few little threads hinted at that never got properly explored. I also feel like they bowed to the toxic internet backlash re: Rose and reduced her to a role to be about the same as the dude from Lord of the Rings in this one, which made Episode 8's little side adventure all the more pointless.

It was definitely more of a visual spectacle than it was a great story, but I still think I'd rate it a touch higher than episode 7 and one whole shelf up from 8.
