Somone on the HN board said that Oregon is a better executing Minnesota.

Lungs, the Iowa/Wiscy game should be for the playoffs.

Moorhead is just exposing OSU's DC Coombs.

Coombs has always coached two high but Day wants to run a one high defense. The thought was last year was such a mess that they never had the consistent practice time and the defense suffered. It seems clear that if Day wants to run a one high defense then he needs to find someone that can run the defense.

Zero pass rush is also a big problem for OSU.

edit: Stroud is a heck of a thrower, though. His passes are almost always right on the mark.

Did Gundy cut his hair or something? Barely won last week against Missouri State and now losing to Tulsa. Yikes.

Yeah, I certainly didn't expect Oregon to own the LOS on both sides of the ball today.

Without Oregon's best two players in their front seven, no less. It's possible neither of these teams is a top 10 team, but this OSU defense looks awful and I'm not convinced by Stroud at all.

Oregon is bullying OSU. WHat happens when OSU face a real defense in the B1G?

It has to be exhausting being a fan like this where every Iowa game shows they are the best or worst team in college football. I don't know how you keep your blood pressure in check.

Either Harrison Bailey looks like hot garbage at practice OR there's another idiot HC in Knoxville.

They play Tulsa and Akron in the next two weeks. Bama played Miami for the season opener. Don't get carried away.

In the past few years, Mercer has played Bama 2x, UNC, GT, Memphis, Auburn and ... somebody else, i forget now. Give up around 60 ppg in them.

Those games each year have pretty much paid for the program, so I know they're very happy they exist.

But do they need to exist?

(Also, wiki says they have a $475M endowment. I think that could pay for a football team.)

--------------

On other fronts, where is Dr. Pepper going with this story? That the parents/fans/Dr. Pepper drinkers are, well, assholes? I'm not getting their angle here.

That money ain't gonna be cut loose solely for football, roughly half that amount has been committed to new construction that's non-athletic.

And, hey, they're as valid as any other FCS program. Right size, right geography, it's certainly broadened their appeal around the state. Gets them beyond being simply "Emory Lite" status. It's not an accident that record enrollment occurred after they revived the football program. (nor that roughly half that money was raised once the football program was announced)

edit to add: total enrollment (note: not all on that single campus) is now larger than Tulsa, La-Monroe, Rice, and Wake Forest. and within 10% of both TCU and Coastal Carolina.

Good guess, but Kansas had Aqib Talib drafted in 2008

Wrong.

Pretty obvious the razorbacks aren't the 2nd worst team in SEC (this year).

But yeah, our defense is winning the battle and our newbie QB > than their newbie QB.

Im rooting for Arkansas. Always liked 60 minutes of Hell and then a good Ol' Iowa player was the HC.

Welllllll ... they're in the conversation.

Vandy is obviously one of those.

I think you have to put an asterisk on SC right now, let's see if the starting QB return makes any difference.

Mizzou, State, UT, even LSU, all contenders to be worse than Arkansas. Whether they turn out to BE worse still TBD.

Much as it pains me to say this, Georgia looks like the only team that has much of a chance.

Bama losing another defensive starter to injury makes me less comfortable about things

I wonder if Saban gets like all of us when we have that kick ass CB14 team we cheat with and never lose but get bored and quit and start over with another team?

He has to be getting to that point, right?

Dunno, I think he's wired a lot like Geno Auriemma, the quest for perfection is what seems to drive him.

Texas may need that SEC Network money to buy out Sark before they finish paying the buyout for Hermann. 3 years is a loooong time if they lose this game.

Texas can't stop our run.

Its 33-14 with 11 min left in Q4. Hogs have the ball. Let's just run it.

TBF if Longhorn QB was just a tad more accurate, it would be a lot closer. They had some open receivers.

Saban's also almost 70. Seems late to try a rebuild somewhere. (George Allen at Long Beach State aside.)

Texas should have swapped QBs in 3Q.

Great game for the hogs. Classy to kneel and not run for another score with 1:30 min left at their 20 or so. But we'll be hurting if a team can stop our run. QB was 14/19 for 138 yards and 0 TD (last week vs Rice was only 128 yards also).

GA Southern is next so it should be 3-0 before we meet up with A&M, then UGA.

Happy for a winning record and a minor bowl.

GA seems to be meeting expectations. But they do tend to choke in big games.

Looking forward to the presumptive AL-GA SEC/National Championship game. Ready for AL to be knocked off the perch.
