I thought they insinuated several times that the founders of Grey Matter split up over Gretchen, I don't need that spelled out. So his relationship with both of them was tainted beyond simply business. He didn't get the girl, the other guy did.

Between that and pride, I thought they explained it. Still a selfish move, but I understood his mindset.

And there was the whole thing where Gretchen told Walt that he left her (and the company), after he packed his bags during a July 4th weekend trip somewhere.

According to the actress that played Gretchen, Vince Gilligan gave her the back-story: "We were very much in love and we were to get married. And he came home and met my family, and I come from this really successful, wealthy family, and that knocks him on his side. He couldn’t deal with this inferiority he felt — this lack of connection to privilege. It made him terrified, and he literally just left me, and I was devastated. Walt is fighting his way out of going back to that emotional place, so he says, “F— you.”

Q&A – Jessica Hecht (Gretchen)

Then there was some reference to him working at Sandia labs, and then Application Labs, but then for some reason he ended up as a $40k a year teacher/part-time car washer.

He was working at another company in the flashback scene that showed him and Skyler buying the house.

Given that throughout the show he routinely had trouble working with others I can imagine he'd have the same type of conflict working in a lab.

Actually, I've read in many places, Breaking Bad had some Christian symbolism regarding falling gradually into evil. So Coulter is not alone in seeing that.

That reminds me of an article I read a while ago relating Walt's actions to white privilege. “Breaking Bad’s” racial politics: Walter White, angry white man - Salon.com

I think the themes covered in Breaking Bad (pride, resentment over being less successful than your peers, slow descent into evil) are universal enough that claiming them as exclusively white or exclusively Christian doesn't make that much sense.

Yeah, cause watching 3 episodes in 6 minute chunks that cost a buck each is something I want to do.

As much as I enjoyed Breaking Bad, that would be a difficult sell.

Avoid trying to read the final page as I just got through season 3. Trying to avoid recent talk is annoying.

I was in a mad rush to catch-up before the finale to avoid spoilers... ended up watching from season 1 epsiode 1 to season 5 episode 13 in two weeks, just in time for episode 14.

I worked for Circuit City in the late 90s when they were trying to push DIVX. If you can't convince your salespeople that DIVX doesn't suck, then you have no hope pushing it to customers.

Finally got with the program, and now have seen Breaking Bad start to finish. I'm really sorry I waited so long to dive in.

I'm 4 episodes into season 5 right now. Season 4 was amazing and it's built amazingly well through out the entire series. But it's nowhere as deep or as good as The Wire. It's got two things going for it though. It was on basic cable and thus more accessible, and it's white, therefore more accessible.

It's still great.

I still think season 4 is the best single season of TV ever. Wire may be better as a whole.

Wire Season 4, Breaking Bad Season 4 are my top two, in that order. Not sure anything else is close.

Seasons 2 & 5 of The Wire were relatively white, and those are easily the 2 worst seasons.

Anyone watching Metastasis on Netflix? It's largely shot for shot remade. But it's still fairly interesting. I dunno how it's only rated a 3.5 on IMDB. Walter and Jose(Jesse) are cast well.

Yes. That episode was THE most tense episode of television I've ever watched. Ever. And then the moment you're finally able to relax, let the tension out and.... yeah.

Amazing.

Walter vs Walter Blanco-obviously Cranston is amazing. Diego Truillo isn't half bad

Jesse vs Jose Miguel- pretty much the same as above. Dude who plays Jose Miguel is a pretty good actor. Was Fabio Ochoa in Narcos

Skylar vs. Cielo- once again see above.

Hank vs Henry- honestly I kinda prefer Henry by a tad. Actor is solid

Twins vs New Twins. New Twins are pretty embarrassing tbh. Bad casting

Saul vs Saul Bueno- look, its impossible to beat Odenkirk but Saul Bueno is kinda endearing in his own way.

Jane vs Juana- I love Krysten Ritter but Juana is smoking hot.

Marie vs Maria- see Jane vs Juana

Gus vs new Gus-i mean once again old Gus was amazing, but the new Gus isn't an embarrassment

Mike vs new Mike- really bad mismatch here.

Badger, etc vs new Versions of Badger, etc. The dude playing Skinny Pete(Tripaseca) and Combo(Can't remember new name) were solid. Old Badger is way better

RV vs School bus- obviously RV

Gomez vs Gomez- I actually like the new Gomez a bit more

Walter Jr vs Walter Jr. I think the new kid is actually acting diseased, it's kind of embarrassing

I really wish they would have forked the series more as it is basically a shot for remake. A few things were slightly changed, but it's almost identical. If you've seen BB 3-4 times, I would watch this. If you haven't, watch BB again

I forgot. New Tuco is pretty menacing .

New Hector Salamacca is not.

Finished Metastasis. The last dozen or so episodes were kinda weak. Up thru the end of season 4 was pretty solid. After awhile the musical cues get really lol bad and they seem to overuse musical pieces too many times. For example, I don't actually think they used the opening theme to Breaking Bad during the show until the end of Granite State, but in this it was over and over.

Last night, there was a book release party at the Treaty Oak distillery in Dripping Springs, TX for Bryan Cranston's memoir titled "A Life in Parts". Alamo Drafthouse and Bookpeople partnered up for the event. It was held outside, and they had one of the RVs from the show (bullet holes in the door!) and a stage set up in front of it. Mr. Walter White himself was there, and he talked for over two hours on all sorts of topics, to expand on some of the stories in the book. He also answered questions for quite a while. One of them was around Better Call Saul, and he said he was in ABQ a couple of days ago on-set, but not to be filmed. He dropped a hit that a familiar character was going to be coming back, but it wasn't Gus Fring. Afterwards, they had a big inflatable screen set up and did a showing of "All The Way", the movie where he portrayed LBJ. Overall was an incredible evening.

I watched a random Breaking Bad episode the other day. It's funny how a show can be a part of your week-to-week life for years, and then one day it's over and you just let it go and don't really think about it anymore. And then you forget so much. It's fun to dip back in, it really does kind of make me sentimental about the time and place I was in my life when it was going on.

I wanna watch it again, but there's never going to be a feeling like watching those last few shows for the first time again.

If you never got to The Wire, you should hit that one too.

That is true - but having now watched at least half a dozen times through (yeah, a bit obsessed), I still find myself finding little things here and there that shock me. Plus even knowing exactly what is going to happen, I am still floored every time they happen I suppose it helped that the last time I watched it (just a few months back), my Uncle was watching it again as well, while his wife was watching it for the first time - so we were able to reminisce AND see it through her eyes. So great
