Darkest Dungeon Discussion

This is an Early Access game on Steam (for newcomers.) Needs its own thread since we're talking about it a lot.

Wow just found a sweet rare item - +15 to dodge but -3 Acc (which doesn't hurt you if you're already at 0.)

The Hottest New Game On Steam Sure Lives Up To Its Name

If you missed it on the Steam thread, this is an excellent article that gives an overview of the game.

Steam Community :: Guide :: Getting Started in Darkest Dungeon

This was also posted there, originally by Peregrine and is a fantastic beginner's guide.

Happy hunting!

Repost from Steam Discussion:

When you finish a quest/dungeon and you are at the Victory level up screen, do you still get new clerks if you don't click on the masks? If so I guess starting out it would be better not to take the chance on building up bad quirks until you have plenty of money to remove them.

To be honest until you posted this I never knew you could even do this. You don't get those new quirks if you don't click on them (pretty sure anyway)

And like I said, if you find you're getting too many negative quirks, especially ones that negatively effect the class, you're much better off firing the hero rather than spending precious cash on trying to fix them.

Remember, the meat wagon is always dropping off fresh lambs for the slaughter.

Yeah I had to get rid of my best crusader because he was up to 7 negative quirks, with only a few positive.

Do you have a favorite class set-up at this point?

I like the idea of Crusader-Hellion-Plague Doctor-Vestal

I really like the Leper as well. Haven't worked much with a Jester or Occultist and I can't really figure out where to put the Grave Robber in the rotation.

I like to use the bounty hunters - usually I have crusader in front, vestal in back and then a mix of bounty hunter, occasionally leper (low ACC drives me crazy) and some others. I just got my first jester and hellion in like weeks 9-11 so not sure about them yet.

I like the Crusader as Tank, sometimes Leper.
Next up a Hellion or Bounty Hunter.
Highwayman for AOE or Occultist to mark if using Bounty Hunter in #2.
Vestal or Occultist if Vestals are tied up in recovery.

I like to get the second heal for my Vestal so they can do group or single, but mainly use the group heal unless someone is at death's door.

Middle slots I mix in Jester and Grave Digger occasionally to try to figure them out.

What is the end goal of the game? It sounds interesting, but if it is grinding to grind, not sure if I will pick it up.

I have found that Jesters are great at disarming traps.

I read somewhere (maybe the already linked guide) that you can look at a character's trap resistance to see who's good at disarming them - generally it seems to be thief type - highwayman, bounty hunter, jester etc.

Still haven't had a Bounty Hunter come on the meat wagon. I'm eagerly anticipating one.

While I have found myself enjoying it, this game hasn't blown me away. Fear I fell victim to the hype machine. I've only played it for about an hour at a time (4x), not really locking in at all. Don't know why, but other games consume my nights, and this hasn't.

Stupid question, and I should probably know this, but how do you equip trinkets onto a character? I assume this is done BEFORE embarking on a quest, but the drag-drop method doesn't seem to work here.

open up the trinket icon bottom right of the screen (not the actual wagon), then click on a specific character, that way you have both open at the same time.

then drag and drop, only reason it might not work for you is there are class specific ones that only go with certain ppl.

theres 2 spots to the right of the chars wep/armor for this

Looks interesting. Like the old Wizardry game for NES.

IS this the kind of game I can play on my laptop while watching TV with my wife, or does it require a little more attention?

This is due for full release this week. What is the verdict? If I recall correctly, there were a few issues that cropped up during the beta. We're these resolved? What is the current state of the game?

Curious as well. Seems like the reviews have fluctuated wildly on this one. Super positive at first, then terrible, now positive again. I've passed on it a few times it's been on sale

This is one person's review, but I have enjoyed the game tremendously. Yes, they have made some changes, and some people didn't like those changes, but some people just don't like change, especially if it involves having to change their 'tried and true' strategery. I think the game is great. I describe it to friends as a relatively simple game that still requires some thought and thinking. I have been playing it and Grim Dawn only for the last handful of months (Grim Dawn more over the last 2 weeks because it is 'new' to me).

For the price, I would get it. I will probably start completely over when the final release comes out, well because, that is just what I do and I plan to be playing it for awhile.

I had posted a dynasty (crappy as it was) for a little bit, but didn't really like my layout, so stopped. I didn't stop the dynasty because of boredom of the game, I just couldn't figure out a better way to write it out. I would watch Baer Taffy on YouTube also if you are on the fence and see some gameplay. There are I think around 130 plus vids. I would watch the first, then just randomly pick other vids in the series.

How do you sell the trinkets you get during your quests? I could use the extra gold. It seems like it should be obvious but the inventory only shows the items you can equip to your heroes.

Click on the treasure chest on the lower right of the tool bad, hold shift and click on any unequipped trinkets to sell.

Fired up Darkest Dungeon for the first time in a long time last night. The ambiance of this game is amazeballs! "Dispatch this thug in brutal fashion, that all may hear of your arrival!"

It is a great game. It is 2nd on my total hours played behind Grim Dawn.
DLC comes out soon I believe. Early 2017, whatever 'early' means.

Picked it up on sale.. One complaint. I can't right click because my laptop has one of those smart pads. How in the world has that not been addressed by now?
