RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2107: Youngster Lucas Hopkins emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .237 with 5 home runs and 16 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Hopkins enjoy the limelight.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2107: Juan Jose Coronado was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old right fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 21 games Coronado batted .274 for Baltimore, slapping 20 hits in 73 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 20 runs and scored 13 times.

Ross Belts 6 Hits
Wednesday, June 1st, 2107: "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Hartford second baseman Bennie Ross said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 6-6 day against the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines at Ann Arbor Grounds. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."

The Harpooners had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 11-2.

B. Ross singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off K. Onoda in the 7th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Currently Ross is batting .289 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Hartford's Ross Bags RL Batting Award
Friday, July 1st, 2107: Bennie Ross, the Hartford second baseman, had a productive month in June. He put up some solid numbers with a .433 batting average (45 for 104), 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

That standout offense earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy.

To date, Ross has collected 100 hits for a .324 average. He has posted 12 home runs, scored 36 runs and driven in 46 runs.

Garland Claims CL Batter of the Month Award

Friday, July 1st, 2107: Ethan Garland battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 36-year-old Garland told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Garland hit .418 with 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

Presently Garland is hitting .384 with 14 home runs and 66 RBIs. He has played in 75 games and scored 67 times.

RL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star
Friday, July 1st, 2107: Roberto Hernández earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hammersmith center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Hernández hit .330 with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

So far this year Hernández has 8 home runs and a .286 batting average.

Red-Hot Baltimore Rookie Rated CL's Best
Friday, July 1st, 2107: Juan Jose Coronado is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Baltimore hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .303 average with 27 hits, 2 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Coronado is currently batting .274 with 12 home runs and 56 RBIs.

Cam Fielding Wins Number 200
Thursday, July 7th, 2107: His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Cam Fielding did something even better -- the 33-year-old Colorado Rancheros star has now won 200 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.

He joined that exclusive club today at Ballpark of Hammersmith by whipping the Hammersmith Hooligans 7-2, holding them to 8 hits in 6.1 innings while chalking up 6 strikeouts and no walks.

In the postgame interview, the modest Fielding said, "It's special to win 200 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."

Fielding has a lifetime ERA of 3.16 with a record of 200 wins and 98 losses. He also has struck out 2558 batters in 2816 innings and allowed 2577 hits.

Zero Hour: Servellón Blanks Rebels
Tuesday, August 9th, 2107: "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

And that's what Francisco Servellón did as he led the Winged Lingerines to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Rebels.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Chico manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

Servellón yielded 2 hits and had 3 strikeouts and 4 walks in a standout performance.

For the season Servellón has logged 9 wins and 8 losses and struck out 81 batters in 165.1 innings while compiling a 3.92 ERA.

Ramírez Twirls No-Hitter Against Brooklyn
Saturday, September 10th, 2107: Jorge Ramírez was pretty calm about his no-hitter -- until the last three outs. "You really become conscious of every pitch then. The adrenaline level kicks up even higher. And everybody in the ballpark knows a no-hitter is on the line. The crowd is on its feet. One mistake and it's all over."

But on this day at Assasins Ballpark Ramírez of the Apex Assassins was in complete command, not allowing the Brooklyn Brownstones a single base hit in the 1-0 victory.

"Obviously, you never think this will happen," he said. "I don't know if it's really sunk in yet." Ramírez faced 32 batters, had 2 strikeouts and 4 walks in a dominating effort. "To do this you have to have a good defense behind you, too."

"He was on from the get-go," one of the Brownstones said. "He throws quite a few pitches. He was hitting his spots and keeping us off balance. It was a great game by him."

To this point in the season, Ramírez shows a 15-11 record, 27 starts, 199 innings, 76 strikeouts and a 3.35 ERA.
