So this week instead of 5 minutes, you took 4 minutes and 45 seconds?

Well, in that case, you might shatter the CL record for wins in a season.

Republic League #1 Hurler is Ríos
Monday, May 1st, 2045: Miguel Angel Ríos has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Naps bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 20 strikeouts in 12.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .100 average and posting a 0.73 ERA and a 4-0 record.

April's Top Hurler is Martínez

Monday, May 1st, 2045: Veteran Carlos Martínez put together quite a successful stretch in April for the St Cloud Raindrops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Martínez racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.88 ERA over 38.1 innings and striking out 31.

Great April Gets Barry RL Best Hitter Award
Monday, May 1st, 2045: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Tanner Barry helped his contract negotiations by nabbing April's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Maricopa right fielder put together a .337 batting average with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Barry continues at this brisk pace.

CL's Best Batter Announced
Monday, May 1st, 2045: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Iván Canseco put together a solid offensive month for Stafford and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .386 with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, May 1st, 2045: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Ben Steele just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 24-year-old first baseman for Maricopa hit .262 with 27 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBI. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .327 on-base percentage.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Monday, May 1st, 2045: Allen Hunt's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Chicago left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .402 with 9 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Hunt also scored 17 times and drove in 26 runs.

McLaughlin Swings for the Cycle
Saturday, May 20th, 2045: "It's too bad I can't do that every day," Loren McLaughlin said with a smile to reporters after today's game. "It would do wonders for my batting average." McLaughlin had every right to be in a good mood after hitting for the cycle today against Oshawa at Chicago Stadium. The Southpaws won the ballgame 12-8, he hit for the cycle, had a 5-for-5 game and boosted his batting average up a few points. The 32-year-old Chicago center fielder chalked up 5 runs batted in and 2 runs scored for the game, too.

Who says you can't have it all?

He told the press that a triple is the tough hit to get in a cycle. "As soon as it left the bat, guys jumped off the bench and were rooting hard for me to have enough gas to get there," McLaughlin said. "It was hard to enjoy it... I was breathing too hard... you got to really be in shape to run out a triple."

Loren McLaughlin hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Felipe Ortíz in the 4th, singled in the 6th, tripled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.

A look at his season totals shows McLaughlin with 1 home run, .319 BA, .365 OBP, 10 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

RL Starter of the Month Goes to Pérez
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: Andrés Pérez took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 25-year-old Legends starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 6-0 won-lost record in 7 starts. This month he fanned 18 batters in 42.1 innings and compiled a 2.13 ERA.

This season Pérez has compiled a 8-1 record with a 2.35 ERA in 11 starts.

Fernández Voted Best CL Pitcher in May
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: José Fernández was pure magic coming out of the Freedom bullpen in May. For his outstanding performance, he picked up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Fernández posted a 4-0 mark and a 1.33 ERA in 14 relief appearances. In 20.1 innings, he allowed 9 hits, totaled 2 saves with 32 strikeouts and 10 walks.

Crunching the numbers on Fernández for the year, he has made 29 relief appearances, recorded 3 saves and compiled a 5-0 won-lost mark and 1.75 ERA. In pitching 36 innings, he has totaled 49 strikeouts and 18 walks.

RL's #1 Batter Chosen
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: In May, Spring Lions first baseman Greg Verhoeve claimed the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 30-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .416 with 4 home runs, 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

For the season, Verhoeve is hitting at a .358 clip with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and has scored 39 runs. He has 81 hits, 14 walks and a .406 on-base percentage.

Caro Grabs CL Best Batter Award for May
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: Arturo Caro battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Caro told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Caro hit .343 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

So far this year Caro has hit .317 with 12 home runs, 35 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

Top Republic League Newcomer Named
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: Ben Steele earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Maricopa first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Steele hit .265 with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Steele is batting .264 with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs. In 53 games he has scored 37 times.

Vidal Selected CL's #1 Rookie
Thursday, June 1st, 2045: Oshawa's José Vidal collected 33 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .384 with 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Vidal is hitting .340 this year with 2 home runs and 21 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .452, 33 walks and scored 32 times.

200 Victories for St Cloud's Garrett Sweeney
Saturday, June 3rd, 2045: History was made today at Pirates Park -- Garrett Sweeney won game #200 to seal his name in the league record books. The St Cloud ace downed the Plantana Pirates 1-0 to gain entrance into the elite 200 Club.

"I was wound up at first. I think I threw too hard," remarked Sweeney, "I had to calm down and go out there and pitch... not just throw. I think I got better as the game wore on. I started to think less about 200 wins and more about doing what I had to do."

So far in his career, the 35-year-old Sweeney has put up a 3.85 ERA with 200 wins and 144 losses.

Wildcats Chill López's Hot Streak
Sunday, June 25th, 2045: It was the best of both worlds for the Las Vegas Wildcats today at Gambler Anonymous Palace as they defeated the New York Legends 6-5 and also ended Júlio López's 34-game hitting streak. The 28-year-old New York center fielder failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Júlio, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Wildcats skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, López frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."

This season in 76 games, López has hit at a .368 clip with 123 hits, 2 home runs, 36 RBIs and 61 runs scored.

Martínez Selected RL's Best Pitcher
Saturday, July 1st, 2045: The Pitcher of the Month Award in June has been selected and the Republic League honor went to New York hurler, Emílio Martínez. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

In the current season in 20 starts, Emílio Martínez has a record of 9-3 with 76 strikeouts in 111 innings and a 2.35 ERA.

Dale Donlon is June's #1 Hitter in RL
Saturday, July 1st, 2045: Dale Donlon received the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Las Vegas's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Dale's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Donlon put up a .346 batting average, 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 22 times in June.

This season Donlon is batting at a .329 clip with 18 home runs and 83 RBIs.

Torrid June Gets Hatfield CL #1 Batter Trophy
Saturday, July 1st, 2045: In the last year of his deal with Havana, Johnny Hatfield has created some waves by winning June's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .330 batting average with 12 home runs, 21 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 24 walks and a .463 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 32-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Hatfield is hitting .256 this season with 20 home runs, 41 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has 77 hits in 301 at-bats.

Steele Named Newcomer of the Month
Saturday, July 1st, 2045: Ben Steele is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Maricopa hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .221 average with 25 hits, 5 home runs and 29 RBIs.

So far this season Steele is batting .249 with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He has 83 hits in 333 at-bats, 28 walks and a .316 OBP. Steele has played in 81 games.

Vidal Wins June's Rookie Award

Saturday, July 1st, 2045: José Vidal was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 21-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Vidal batted .297 for Oshawa, slapping 27 hits in 91 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 10 runs and scored 13 times.

Vidal is presently batting .324 with 4 home runs, 45 runs scored and 31 RBIs. His OBP is .431.

Violante Hurls No-Hitter
Friday, July 14th, 2045: Ann Arbor is abuzz in the wake of a masterful no-hitter by Nari Violante against the Las Vegas Wildcats. In a dominating 3-0 performance at Ann Arbor Grounds, the 30-year-old hurler had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Not one batter managed a hit.

The Las Vegas manager said after the game, "You could tell early on it was going to be a long day for us. He made us look real bad. He was that good. And still going strong at the end of the game."

"Yeah, this was a special day for me," said Violante. "I had my good stuff and good movement... good location, too. Even when I was off and made a mistake, I got away with it today."

On the season Violante has compiled a 4-9 mark with a 5.73 ERA in 19 starts. In pitching 108.1 innings he has 55 strikeouts and 61 walks while limiting the opposition to a .285 batting average.

Hit Parade: Robertson Gets Cycle
Tuesday, September 5th, 2045: It was a quite a day for Oliver Robertson at The Brewery!
He hit for the cycle, belting out every kind of hit there is in a baseball game -- single, double, triple and a home run. The St Louis right fielder accomplished the rare feat during his team's 8-7 victory over the St Cloud Raindrops.

He told BNN reporters at the postgame press conference, "I never even thought about hitting for the cycle and what do you know, I did it. The cycle really doesn't matter to me, it is the 4 hits and the win that are important. But I guess it will be nice to see my name in the record book."

Robertson went 4-6 in the game with 3 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

Oliver Robertson hit a two-run home run off Carlos Martínez in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, flied out in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 11th.

In his stats this season, Robertson has posted a batting average of .339 with 200 hits in 590 at-bats, 22 home runs and 122 RBIs. He has also scored 102 runs, walked 43 times and compiled a .379 OBP.

300 Homers for Medina
Wednesday, September 20th, 2045: It was a great day for Félix Medina, but not a good one for his Havana Banana Sluggers. The 33-year-old left fielder reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Plantana Pirates, who came away with a 11-5 victory. Medina finished the day with 1 hit, 4 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

Lifetime Medina is hitting .289 with 1303 hits, 300 home runs, 892 runs scored and 1020 RBIs.

Caro Smashes 300th Homer
Thursday, September 21st, 2045: At Banana Sluggers Ballpark Arturo Caro smashed his 300th career home run in a game against Plantana today. The 31-year-old third baseman had a hand in the Havana Banana Sluggers 5-2 victory with 1 home run and 1 run batted in. For the day he went 1 hit-3 at-bats.

At the press conference after the game, Caro downplayed his achievement.

"Obviously, I've hit 300 home runs so I belong in that 300 club. But when you talk about the other guys that have done it, I'm not as good as they were. Those guys were the greatest of all time. I've just been able to scrape together some good years and stayed healthy and gotten there."

In his 1440-game career Caro has hit .307 with 1705 hits, 300 home runs, and 981 RBIs and has scored 1058 runs.

Otero Slams Door on Oshawa, Notches 300th Save
Friday, September 29th, 2045: Paco Otero has joined elite company. The St Cloud Raindrops reliever earned his 300th save in a 11-9 victory over the Oshawa Mullets at Molson Stadium. The newest member of the 300 club told reporters after the game, "I get the ball and I try to win the game. When I get a save, my team wins and really that's all that matters. I'm happy to reach the milestone but it's just that. The more important part is that I've helped my club win." While picking up the save, Otero allowed 2 hits and 1 run in 1 innings of work.

Despite the dejection of their team having lost the game, even a number of Mullets fans were seen honoring Otero as they joined in the standing ovation as he recorded the final out on his historic save. "That was pretty special," he said. "Something I won't soon forget."

Otero has converted 300 saves in his career. Over 1106 games he has compiled a 3.77 ERA, 79 wins, 98 losses and 1510 strikeouts in 1257.2 innings pitched.
