RL Honors May's #1 Pitcher
Friday, June 1st, 2108: An outstanding 4-2 record in May earned Julian Fleming the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Republic League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Colorado lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

In 43.1 innings of work, Fleming limited opposing batters to 29 base hits and a .191 batting average. He notched 21 strikeouts, issued 12 walks and had a 1.66 ERA.

On his stats sheet for the year Fleming shows a 5-4 record, 10 starts, 66.2 innings, 30 strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA.

Continental League Premier Pitcher is Kogawa
Friday, June 1st, 2108: When the Gothams skipper wrote Kogawa on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in May he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-1 mark and 3.46 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Gothams star pitched 39 innings, fanned 20 and held opposing teams to a .250 average.

For his excellent mound work Kogawa was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Kogawa has a 7-1 record and a 3.77 ERA.

Miguel Gómez is May's #1 Hitter in RL
Friday, June 1st, 2108: Miguel Gómez, the Hammersmith Hooligans first baseman, certainly made his name known to Republic League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with May's Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .381 batting average while tallying up 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He also worked RL pitchers for 18 walks and a .472 on-base percentage.

Rookie Reaps Reward This Month
Friday, June 1st, 2108: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Jesús Alarcon just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 24-year-old first baseman for Hammersmith hit .286 with 18 hits, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. He also logged 7 walks and compiled a .384 on-base percentage.

So far this season Alarcon is hitting .345 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 110 at-bats and a .450 OBP.

Rookie Shortstop Honored by CL
Friday, June 1st, 2108: José Féliz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Brooklyn hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .355 average with 27 hits, 1 home run and 9 RBIs.

Féliz on the season is batting .284 with 1 home run. His totals include 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has played in 49 games.

Sunday, July 1st, 2108: Bill Stretton has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Alarcon Voted June's #1 Newcomer
Sunday, July 1st, 2108: Jesús Alarcon was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 15 games Alarcon batted .351 for Hammersmith, slapping 20 hits in 57 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 11 times.

June's Best Rookie Honored by CL

Sunday, July 1st, 2108: Eduardo Armando earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Baltimore shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Armando hit .392 with 1 home run, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Armando has banged out 73 hits in 218 at-bats for a .335 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .423 pace and his totals also include 23 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

Will this be the first time in 148 seasons that we have a playoff team with a below .500 record?

2500 Hits for Cole
Monday, July 2nd, 2108: Hooligans left fielder Kirby Cole never thought his name would be associated with some of the great players in league history. Now that he has reached the 2500-hit threshold, that's all but guaranteed. Cole collected his big hit in a 3-2 loss to Colorado.

Afterward, he thought about the achievement: "Overwhelmed," he said. "That's how I feel about it right now."

Cole went 2-4 for the game.

Lifetime Cole is batting .313 with 2501 hits, 147 home runs, 1252 runs scored and 1077 RBIs.

What I mean by that is Huang is 18-0 with a 1.92 ERA this season through August.

Maybe the most impressive season ever in FOOL history (including ones by Sierra and other greats).

yet he didn't make the all star team

Oh no, nothing taken from that. I was just using the moment to point out a revelation I had about my pitching.

Just for the record, I looked up what the game considered the best pitching season ever in FOOL history...

It was actually one of my old pitchers. Joel Garner pitched 20-1 with a 2.92 ERA in 1971.

Huang for Baltimore could beat that this year if he keeps up his dominant performance.

Portillo Tops Colorado 4-2 for 200th Win
Monday, July 30th, 2108: His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, José Portillo did something even better -- the 36-year-old Toronto Marlboros star has now won 200 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.

He joined that exclusive club today at Ballpark of Toronto by whipping the Colorado Rancheros 4-2, holding them to 6 hits in 8 innings while chalking up 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

In the postgame interview, the modest Portillo said, "It's special to win 200 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."

His career totals show Portillo has 200 victories and 113 defeats with a 3.39 ERA.

Second best performance according to the game in my opinion is actually more impressive.

Juan Sierra in 2026 went 28-2 with a 1.56 ERA
the next season he went 32-4 with a 1.80 ERA

Toronto Starter Named RL's Premier Pitcher
Wednesday, August 1st, 2108: The Toronto Marlboros celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Bert Hood had been selected as July's Republic League Pitcher of the Month. Hood's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Hood said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Hood tossed 30.2 innings last month, holding opponents to a .269 average while striking out 20 batters. In 5 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 2.93.

On the year Hood has worked 117.2 innings with 65 strikeouts en route to a 8-6 record and 4.13 ERA.

In 4 starts he claimed a 4-0 record as he put up a 2.73 ERA and struck out 23 in 29.2 innings.

Season-to-date Huang has rung up 18 wins and no losses in 20 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.09 and has fanned 99 batters in 142.1 innings.

Well, I guess my point was the best player on your team (and perhaps the entire league this season) was not selected
