Bentley Gets Number 2500
Saturday, April 21st, 2046: "It would have been a lot nicer if my 2500th hit had won the game," said Trent Bentley after the New York Legends had been tripped up by the Cleveland Naps, 5-4, spoiling his big day. The Legends center fielder gained access to the exclusive 2500-hit club by going 2-for-4 in the game played at Legends Stadium.

"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Bentley said to the press after the game. "I think even the Naps fans were cheering me."

Bentley is hitting the ball at a .291 clip over his career. In 2224 games he has delivered 2501 hits, 107 home runs with 1219 RBIs and scored 1275 times.

Lyon Superb Against Waikiki
Wednesday, April 25th, 2046: Sometimes even Jeff Lyon of Las Vegas isn't sure which pitcher will show up when he takes the mound.

Lyon tossed a 1-hit shutout against them, totaling 5 strikeouts and giving up 2 walks.

This season Lyon has fanned 23 in 32 innings and collected a 4-0 record with a 2.53 ERA.

"I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

Ann Arbor's Rivera Gets 2500th Hit
Friday, June 29th, 2046: What a day for Ángel Rivera. The 35-year-old Ann Arbor designated hitter reached the 2500-hit mark today and the Wolverines whipped the Maricopa Rattlers 7-5.

Rivera told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2500, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 2 for 5 in the game to reach the milestone.

Rivera has a lifetime average of .312, has played in 2106 games, and has collected 286 home runs and 1320 RBIs.

Super Month Nets Rodríguez #1 Batter Prize in RL
Sunday, July 1st, 2046: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Esteban Rodríguez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Ann Arbor left fielder put together a .375 batting average with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

#400 for Donlon
Saturday, August 25th, 2046: A big sigh of relief erupted from Dale Donlon after he hit his 400th career homer. The Las Vegas left fielder said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Donlon. He got his name in the league record books with 2 hits, 3 runs batted in, scored 1 run and his team, the Las Vegas Wildcats beat the Maricopa Rattlers 9-7.

Donlon knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 400th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

In his career Donlon has hit .323 with 2175 hits, 400 home runs, 1567 RBIs and scored 1322 runs.

On a Roll: Rodríguez Hits for Cycle
Friday, August 31st, 2046: Hitting for the cycle is defined as hitting a single, double, triple and home run in the same game. How often does that happen? Not very often, especially considering that a cycle is a microcosm of what makes a complete hitter -- he must possess power (homer), speed (triple) and make regular contact (four hits).

Well, Orlando Rodríguez is a complete hitter -- at least for one ballgame. Today at Banana Sluggers Ballpark he hit for the cycle to lead Havana Banana Sluggers to a 12-4 win over the Plantana Pirates. All told in the game Rodríguez delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 RBI and 5 runs scored.

He admitted to the press in the postgame interview, "Lotta luck in hitting for the cycle. Several unique things have to come together... all in the same game."

Orlando Rodríguez hit a solo-shot off Pedro Árias in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and tripled in the 8th.

This season Rodríguez is swinging the bat at a .278 rate with 82 hits in 295 at-bats. To date he has hit 18 home runs, scored 67 runs and driven in 54.

Hayes Makes 400 HR Mark
Friday, August 31st, 2046: 400 home runs is a lot of home runs to hit. It's a number that very few players reach. Today Mike Hayes became a member of that exclusive club. He belted it at Waikiki Beachpark against the Wolverines. But sometimes milestone homers don't win the game. The powerful Waikiki right fielder got all the headlines, but Ann Arbor came away with the victory. They beat the Beach Boys 9-6.

During the postgame interview he told the press, "It's a big relief to get it over. I tried not to think about it, but it's kind of hard when you have a huge sign on the scoreboard staring at you every time you step up to the plate. The home run was nice, but I would have preferred to win the game."

His batting totals for the game showed 1 hit in 4 at-bats, 1 home run and 1 run batted in.

The hardworking and dedicated Hayes also said, "I'll celebrate a little with my family tonight but not too much. This is not the last home run I will hit. I think I have a lot baseball left in me and have other goals. I'll get back to work tomorrow."

Hayes has a career .289 average with 1947 hits, 377 doubles, 38 triples, 400 home runs, 1463 RBIs, and 1180 runs scored to date

Espinoza Garners RL #1 Pitcher Award
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: When Jorge Espinoza takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Waikiki Beach Boys. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-2 mark and 1.98 ERA in 7 starts. In 36.1 innings, he fanned 21 and walked 12.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

Thus far this season, Espinoza has worked 152.2 innings with 109 strikeouts en route to a 7-14 record and a 4.78 ERA.

Cruz Premier Pitcher in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: The Continental League announced today that Alejandro Cruz has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The St Cloud starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 5-0 record.

In August Cruz chalked up a 1.63 ERA in 38.2 innings with 34 strikeouts and 23 walks.

On the season Cruz has compiled a 11-8 mark with a 5.26 ERA in 34 starts. In pitching 157.1 innings he has 147 strikeouts and 113 walks while limiting the opposition to a .265 batting average.

Humphrey Crowned Top RL Hitter in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Mike Humphrey can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 33-year-old left fielder for Spring was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .340 with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

For the year Humphrey has hit at a .289 clip with 73 RBIs, 22 home runs and 87 runs scored.

CL's Premier Batter Picked
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: Allen Hunt of the Chicago Southpaws spoke softly and carried a big stick in August and was justifiably proclaimed the Continental League Batter of the Month.

The Southpaws center fielder rapped out a .282 batting average with 31 hits in 110 at-bats, drove in 28, scored 21 runs and chalked up a .319 on-base percentage.

Hunt is batting .300 this season in 132 games with 39 home runs, 125 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 160 hits in 533 at-bats.

Shortstop Honored by RL
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: Jim Bedford is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In August the Portland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .411 average with 37 hits, 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.

This season Bedford has hit at a .294 clip with 40 RBIs, 5 home runs and 68 runs scored. He has played in 127 games.

CL Picks Rookie of the Month
Saturday, September 1st, 2046: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Tim Wamboldt just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for August.

Over the past month the 24-year-old catcher for St Cloud hit .276 with 24 hits, 9 home runs and 18 RBI. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .344 on-base percentage.

This year Wamboldt is batting .262 with 33 home runs and 89 RBIs. In 129 games he has scored 68 times.

Havana and New York have both clinched playoff spots. Havana has also clinched homefield advantage in the CLCS.

St. Cloud has a magic number of 12
Cleveland has a magic number of 13
