Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in April
Monday, May 1st, 2051: Kazuma Sakurai has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Waikiki Reséndez Gets the Cycle
Wednesday, May 24th, 2051: Pedro Reséndez produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Las Vegas Wildcats in the Waikiki 6-3 win at Waikiki Beachpark.

Afterward, Reséndez acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Beach Boys just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game."

On his historic day, he went 4-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.

Pedro Reséndez hit a two-run triple in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off António Gonzáles in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Reséndez on the season is hitting .187 with 8 home runs. His stats include 28 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This season Rea has fanned 66 in 77.1 innings and collected a 6-1 record with a 1.86 ERA.

He fanned 25 in 36 innings, logged an ERA of 2.00 and allowed opponents to hit .209 against him.

Tolento Cops RL Batter of the Month Honors
Thursday, June 1st, 2051: Bernardo Tolento battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Tolento told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Tolento hit .404 with 2 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 32 runs.

So far this season Tolento has 2 home runs and a .342 batting average.

May's Best CL Hitter is Leonard Lee
Thursday, June 1st, 2051: Stafford right fielder Leonard Lee put the wraps on a fine May by capturing the Continental League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .402 batting average and .462 on-base percentage last month while racking up 9 home runs, 27 RBIs, 27 runs scored and 14 walks.

This year Lee is batting .344 with 15 home runs. He has scored 49 runs and driven in 49.

Great Month for RL Rookie
Thursday, June 1st, 2051: Youngster Martin Ellis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Waikiki deserved the honor, batting .306 with 1 home run and 12 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Ellis enjoy the limelight.

This year Ellis is hitting .286, produced 16 RBIs and 1 home runs, scored 21 times and gotten on base at a .308 rate.

Maurice Fortin Captures Rookie of Month

Thursday, June 1st, 2051: Maurice Fortin is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Oshawa hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .316 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

For the season, Fortin is hitting at a .311 clip with 1 home run, 18 RBIs and has scored 25 runs. He has 60 hits, 8 walks and a .340 on-base percentage.

Rivera Mows Down St Cloud in No-Hitter
Tuesday, June 13th, 2051: No hitters are rare. But the fans at Fog Bowl received a special gift as Gabriel Rivera of the Terriers tossed a no-hitter against the St Cloud Raindrops. He was masterful as he struck out 12 and walked 3 in a 6-0 Stafford victory. In all Rivera faced only 30 batters. Rivera did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Raindrops. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.

The St Cloud manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."

"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Rivera said to reporters.

So far this season Rivera has a 6-4 record, 14 starts, 85.2 innings, 77 strikeouts and a 5.36 ERA.

Ruíz Hits for the Cycle
Monday, July 24th, 2051: 4 hits is a great day for any player, but when they come in four different denominations, that's a cycle -- a rarity by baseball's standards. Javier Ruíz had a single, double, triple and home run for the Cleveland Naps and led them to a 13-5 decision over Maricopa at Ballpark of Cleveland with 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in.

Javier Ruíz singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Fernando Vargas in the 6th and walked in the 7th.

Ruíz is currently batting .320 with 6 home runs, 70 RBIs and 57 runs scored. He has 128 hits in 400 at-bats.

Canseco Joins Kings of Clout with #400
Saturday, August 12th, 2051: St Louis's outstanding third baseman Iván Canseco joined the 400 home run club today at The Brewery with a booming blast in the Hops win over the Freedom. They topped Washington 6-5.

On his milestone day Canseco had 1 hit in 3 at-bats with 1 run batted in and 1 run scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

Canseco has a career .265 batting average with a .345 OBP. He has hit 400 homers, driven in 1682 runs and scored 1464 runs since he came into the league.

CL Selects Hernández August's Best Pitcher

Friday, September 1st, 2051: Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the Continental League in August?
Answer: That would be Rafael Hernández of the Plantana Pirates.

Chicago clinches homefield advantage in the CLCS!

Ann Arbor clinches a playoff spot and homefield advantage in the RLCS.

Stafford has a magic number of 4
Cleveland has a magic number of 6

3000 Hits for Inoue
Wednesday, September 27th, 2051: Takanibu Inoue's bat made good contact with the ball as he has many times in his career, but this time it added his name to an elite list of players with 3000 hits. The Ann Arbor third baseman went to the plate 5 times and racked up 3 hits to gain the honor. But the Wolverines couldn't pull off a win -- they fell to the Waikiki Beach Boys, 9-2.

Lifetime Inoue has played in 2914 games with a .291 batting average. Among his 3002 hits are 671 doubles, 39 triples and 168 home runs. He also has scored 1833 runs and driven in 1318 runs.

I thought I would have SO much time for FOOL now that I'm stuck at home with a cast on my leg but really, I just sleep later and miss the sims, I'm constantly working even though I'm not AT work, and by the time I get to the kitchen and finally prepare a meal it is pretty much time for the next meal.

AND, extra time clearly does not mean a better team anyway (which I'm not shocked about. I know my team is crap.)

In any case, congratulations are in order for Chicago, Stafford, Ann Arbor, and Cleveland. Good luck to each team tomorrow!

Nice season everyone, Waikiki has a very young team right now and I'm very proud of our 3rd/4th place finish. Should be a fun team the next couple of years! Good luck to those of you in the playoffs
