Eagles, how much are you trying to placate your young players? At all? I know that I do try to mix up playing time a little bit to see if I can prevent transfers when I have a deep roster.

Congrats on the strong finish.

Week 9:

The following players committed to us today:

CB Terry Betters

FS Nate Ferrario

DE Jim Stacy

We lost out on:

C Paul Coleman - North Carolina

MLB Jermaine Smith - Arizona State

DE Willie Hart - Michigan

P Luke Sauerbrun - Wash State.

We end up offering Dennis Williams a scholarship. He is the #2 punter in the nation. He is in Walnut Creek, CA. Arizona and Georgia are our main competition.

We offer Tim Hulsey a scholarship. He is a 6'7 250 pound DE who is from Napa, CA. UCLA and Washington State are among his many pursuers.

We offer Byron Tucker a scholarship. He is 6'1 213 pounds and runs a 4.61. He is from Ohio and Ohio State might be too strong of a lure, but he #37 in the nation overall.

Finally, we offer Lionel Donovan a scholarship. He is 6'4 296. He is strong and powerful. We've already been recruiting him, and he is interested. Michigan is our main competition.

I'm trying to get guys some PT if I don't redshirt them. In this case, both transfers were redshirted. They were very raw upon arriving, and I was hoping they would develop and play as 2nd year freshmen.

We got:

WR Michael Howard
FB Tony Seau

We missed out on:

OLB Mike Driver - Miami
SS Steve Hotchkiss - Washington
DE Tim Hulsey - Fresno State

We offer OLB Tim Coleman a scholarship. He is 6'1 240. He runs a 4.48 and is a great coverage OLB. Also a terrific blitzer with 11 sacks last year. #54 in the nation.

We offer DE Ken Frerotte a scholarship. Not a great player, but he would be solid depth at DE. He is ranked #379 in the nation. He runs a 4.88. Oregon State and UCLA are main pursuers. He plays in Mission Viego, CA.

We offer SS Eugene Montgomery a scholarship. He is undersized at 5'11 179, but is fast (4.6) and smart (3.9 GPA.) Ranked 147th in the nation. He has great coverage abilities and is a decent hitter. Arizona State, UCLA and Boise State are our main competition.

Week 11 Summary:

We got a potential starting QB (for after Randy leaves)

Sedrick Sanders committed. Of course, he is a JC, so he would only be a 1 or 2 year solution.

We lost out on:

C Ricky Dubuc - VT
DE Ken Frerotte - Oregon State

OLB Jimmy May failed to qualify.

Malcolm Maston decided to come back for another year.

Pac-10 Players Leaving Early:

RB Russ Hall, Wash State.
CB Mark Mandley, Arizona
OG Jason Pathon, UCLA
SS Izell Stemke, UCLA
RB Willie Perry, Arizona State

I offer OLB Anthony Pritchett a scholarship. I was on the outside with him early, but he is warming up to us. He is the #1 OLB in the nation. Being heavily recruited by LSU and ND.

OLB Cullen Taylor gets an offer. He is more realistic, but is also quite good. #15 OLB in the nation. 4.48 speed, good coverage ability, solid tackling.

Finally, I offer Mick Hudson, a FS who is very athletic a scholarship. Their just aren't any good DE's or C's worth offering scholarships to at this point. Well, there are, but they have very little interest in coming to USC. Mick runs a 4.49 and might be able to play any DB position.

Week 12 Summary:

No one committed to us

We lost out on:

CB Bob Knight - Oregon State.
FS Mick Hudson - Wisconsin
SS Eugene Montgomery - Boise State (over us!?!)

I offer CB Julius Rodgers a scholarship. He is ranked #18 overall in the nation and is still interested in us.

I offer FS Mike Brown a schoalrship. He runs a 4.66, but is a bit undersized. Good coverage skills. Ranked #81 in the nation.

I offer DE Todd Ziegler a scholarship. He is ranked #457 and would probably only be depth for us, but we could use him.

Week 13 Summary:

We get:

OLB Tim Coleman
OT Terry Harper

We lose out on:

OLB Anthony Pritchett - LSU
HB Brian Fann - Arizona (I guess he didn't want to fight with Malcolm and Wes)
WR Anthony Young - Ohio State
MLB Byron Tucker - Georgia
Fs Mike Brown - Wisconsin
OLB Cullen Taylor - Washington
P Dennis Williams - Arizona
DE Todd Ziegler - San Diego State

Now, I'm just looking to get good players to fill the holes.

So far, we've signed a QB, FB, OT, WR, DE, OLB, FS and CB.

We still have pending offers to a C and 2 Guards.

I now have 8 open scholarship offers.

Going to re-focus on the best remaining HB, C, DE, MLB, OLB, FS, SS, and P.

Jeff Willimas is the #123 player in the nation and is a 6'2 229 pound MLB. He runs a 4.57. I offer him a scholarship.

Kevin Thompson is the #208 player in the nation. He is a 5'10 188 pound SS. He runs a 4.55 with good coverage ability.

No HB's that are any good are still available.

Therefore, I offer MLB Jerry McGee a scholarship as well.

Elroy Nash is #368 in the nation. He is a talented run blocking C. I offer him a scholarship.

None of the DE's are thrilled about USC, but I offer Gino Farmer a scholarship as he is the most interested.

I offer OLB John Hickman (#329 in the nation) a scholarship.

I offer FS Avelon Brown (#127 in the nation) a scholarship.

I offer Dan Simmons, the #6 P in the nation, a scholarship. He is from ME and there are several teams fighting for him.

We offer Eric Harrison (#7 punter in the nation) a scholarship. He is from NY and we are fighting Syracuse for him.

This recruiting season has certainly been more rough than last year.

I pay much more attention to training this year, and have DT Brad Adams work on some moves at DE.

I also have WR Kevin Posey work at DB some, but he looks hopelessly lost at any position.

After watching them both work, I decide only to move Brad Adams from DT to DE. He immediately, becomes our best DE and a clear starter. Our remaining 2 DT's are the starters there. The only downside to this move, is that our backup DT's are weak.

Here is a look at our current roster and the coaches' evaluations

The big shock is that Sedrick has blown the coaches away and they are recommending starting him over Randy!!! (I won't do that though):

To my surprise, this class actually ranks 2nd in the nation. We didn't fill some key positions, but we added some excellent talent. I'm shocked how good the Freshman WR we picked up is.

Randy hasn't really taken a big step forward this offseason (which means he might stick around for a senior year after all.)

Scouting Report
Potential
Has the tools to eventually become one of the most accurate passers in America. Most scouts agree that he will become an excellent touch passer. His potential arm strength has coaches salivating. Has a great mental approach that will help this kid develop tremendous instincts at QB.

Too bad you don't have another backup QB to allow you to redshirt either Sanders or Collins. LOVE the 93 Work Ethics/94 Intelligence on Sanders.

An 11/18 as your 4th wideout is . . . not right. Just not right. Perhaps more 3- and 4-wideout set for Collins this year?

What is the chance of Woods or Standlee beating out Bieniemy this year?

Man, some of your frosh are just STUDLY.

Alberto is on hiatus, but certainly not forgotten. I'll be playing FM 05 again soon

What is the chance of Woods or Standlee beating out Bieniemy this year?

Man, some of your frosh are just STUDLY.

I love Sanders work ethic as well. If I wasn't doing a dynasty about Collins specifically, I *might* start Sanders. He doesn't have as good mobility, but his arm is better. However, Collins has better instincts.

I love my wideouts. They haven't hit their prime yet, but I think they are going to be good this year. There is a VERY good chance that Bieniemy will be a backup this year. He had a lot of holding calls last year, and I think we are going to go with Woods who is MUCH more disciplined as well as an overall better talent.

I was disappointed that we didn't get great DE's and two great linebackers, but this class is looking much better than I thought it was when I was recruiting them.

I think moving Brad to DE while it leaves us thin at DT will end up working out well.

Dola - I love how Wes and Malcolm have developed. We are going to have a lot of weapons on offense this year, and I doubt we will have last year's scoring problems

Also, with Randy's brittle nature, it wouldn't surprise me if Sanders gets some PT. Fortunately, early reports are that Sanders is durable.

My offensive coordinator suggested a vertical attack last year, but I passed on that philosophy. This year with 4 phenomenal WR's and a great QB, we are going to go with a vertical philosophy. As a result, we will be using MANY more 3 WR sets and quite a few 4 WR sets. I also think this could open things up for our speedy running backs who do best with some space.

My defensive coordinator wants us to run a 4-3 despite his favorite defense being 4-2-5. I enjoy running the 4-3 and agree with him.

I want a strong schedule as I think we have a potential National Championship Team.

I want an easy game to start off, but two tougher games after that.

I offer Bowling Green a game in LA in week 1.

I offer Missouri a game in LA in week 2.

Georgia has no interest in coming here, but I'm offering to travel to play them in week 3.

Those 3 teams all accepted, and our schedule is set.

Most of our players I expect to contribute some right away. Therefore, I only redshirt two players:

OLB Irving Staley who is raw still.

FS Drayton Ryan who needs to develop quite a bit to be really useful.

Depth Chart Changes:

Randy faced a serious challenge from Sanders, but he won the starting QB role.

Dan Woods has won the starting RG position from Eric Bieniemy.

Wes Nelson has won the primary starting HB position.

Pre-season top 10 poll:

1. Michigan
2. Ohio State
3. USC
4. Miami
5. Wisconsin
6. Purdue
7. Texas
8. Florida State
9. LSU
10. Oklahoma

Preview:

Today we play Bowling Green on the road?!? Hmmm. Anyway, they have a decent offense, but we should be up to the task. Their top player is HB Dick Bender who is just a good player, but not a special player. Last year he had 325 yards on 84 carries as he was their backup HB.

Their defense isn't very good. Their top defender is MLB Rashod Bailey who was a highly touted HS player and is now a sophmore leading the team in tackles. However, he is a bit undersized and I think we should be able to run over him.

Gameplan:

We will be using many 3 and 4 WR sets with a focus on passing the ball to set up the run.

Defensively, we will be using a vanilla 4-3 and just overmatching them on talent.

We are 25 point favorites on the road.

It's sunny and 78.

They have just over 19,000 fans here today.

Superfreshman Terry Betters returns it to the 33.

Wes Nelson with a 4 yard run out of the 4 WR set to start the game.

Randy slightly hurts his foot on the first pass, but he connects for 2 yards.

Randy hits Kelley in stride for 25 the next play.

Then, he hits Kelley for a 14 yard gain.

Lennox Franklin can't catch the low throw on 2nd and 11.

We are stopped 3 yards short on 3rd and 11 and settle for a 32 yard FG. 3-0 lead for us. Randy was 3 of 4 for 41 yards on that drive.

Dick Bender makes a 11 yard run to convert 3rd and 11.

We stop them the next 3 plays and force a punt.

Randy hits Jerry in stride on a cross and he turns it upfield for 26 yards.

Randy connects with Franklin a few plays later to convert a 3rd and 9.

Randy is sacked on 3rd and 4 and we settle for a 51 yard FG. 6-0. We are moving the ball, just not punching it in.

Brad Adams sacks their QB, forces a fumble, recovers it! He is adjusting to DE quite well!

A few plays later Randy hits Eric Williams our TE in stride for a 17 yard TD! 13-0.

We force a fumble on the kickoff and recover it on their 2 yard line! Wes Nelson runs it in the next play. 20-0.

We force a 3 and out.

End of 1: 20-0 lead for us, and we are driving.

Randy with a 44 yard pass to Kelley.

Randy hits Michael Howard on a short slant pattern, but Howard dodges two defenders and has his first TD as a Trojan! 27-0 with 12 minutes left in the half.

Dwone Secules intercepts their first pass and returns it to 41 yards to their 20 as it was a deep pass. The QB was hurt on the run back, and they will lose their starter.

3 plays later Randy hits Howard for a 13 yard TD! The Superfrosh has 2 TD's already. 34-0 with 10 minutes left in the 1st half.

Carlton intercepts their first pass of the drive! Two plays later Randy connects on a 10 yard pass to Franklin! 41-0.

They finally put together a good drive, but Adams gets another sack to push them into a 3rd and 12 which their QB converts!

They drive inside our 20, but DeMulling forces a fumble and we recover.

We drive 80 yards easily, mostly through the air, but they stop us inside the 10, and we settle for a 25 yard FG. 44-0.

Courtney Carlton gets his second pick of the game on a crossing route and returns it 41 yards to inside their 20.

Time is almost up in the half, and we end up settling for a 34 yard FG. 47-0.

Halftime: 47-0 lead for USC. Randy's halftime stats: 20 of 25 for 251 yards 4 TD's 0 INT's.

They hit us with a 52 yard stride to start the 2nd half.

Their QB has come back from his injury, and he connects on a TD pass to make it 47-7.

Kelley drops a 3rd and 8 pass to force our first short drive in a while.

Even working some backups in, we force them to stop short of midfield.

We get stopped short of the 25, but they block our FG attempt.

They get off a 40 yard pass, but the next play Terry Betters sacks the QB from his corner position and forces a fumble, but they recover.

We stop them outside the 20, and block their FG!

End of 3: 47-7 lead for us.

We put together a balanced 79 yard drive which ends in a 1 yard TD run by Wes Nelson. 54-7.

Brian DeMulling has a big hit on their HB, and injures his arm. I hope he didn't break it.

They drive into our half, but Dwone Secules intercepts a hook route, and returns it for 36 yards.

We bring in all of our backups and end up short. We miss a 50 yard FG.

They connect on a 58 yard pass to start their drive. We are giving up too many big passes.

We stuff them on the next 3 plays, and they settle for a 25 yard FG. 54-10.

Sedrick Sanders hits Jerry Jones in stride for a 67 yard TD as I decided to leave the starting receivers in a bit to work with our #2 QB. 61-10.

Nate Ferrario our freshman backup safety sacks the QB on the first play of this drive.

Dwone Secules with another pick the next play!!

That is Secules' third pick of the game.

A few plays later Maston runs it in from 5 yards out. 68-10.

4 plays into the drive, Courtney Carlton has a big hit and forces the TE to fumble, but they recover.

We stop them on 4th and 12 and get it on their 35 with just under 90 seconds left.

We run the ball inside the 10, before just taking a few knees.

Game over. 68-10 win!

Pros: The offense was amazing. Sure, their defense wasn't good, but we played great, much better than we played against bad defenses last year.

Cons: We gave up way too many yards, mostly on big plays. 4 plays of over 40 yards at least. However, we did get a lot of sacks on the QB and 5 interceptions. If we force turnovers with any frequency close to what we did in this game, we'll be fine defensively.

Injury Report:

Randy is 100%

CB Robert Rolle broke his jaw during the game. He is out for at least a week or two.

FS Brian DeMulling suffered a strained muscle in his left forearm. He is questionable for this upcoming week, but will probably play.

Polls:

We remain in 3rd place as Ohio State and Michigan both won their opening games.

Depth Chart Issues:

We sit Rolle, but everything else remains the same.

Preview:

We host Missouri today. They had an explosive first game in which they blew out their opponent. They put up over 550 yards of offense, but also surrendered almost 500 yards. Their Senior QB Robert Burns threw for 332 yards, 60%, 3 TD's and 0 INT's in his opening game. Last year he had over 2500 yards with 16 TD's and 14 INT's. He is a talented player.

Their defensive star is MLB Willis Bryant. The junior had 7 tackles in their last game, and was highly touted in high school.

Talentwise, our scouts think both offenses relatively close in talent, but that our defense is much better.

Gameplanning:

Our offense is going to run the same gameplan this week.

Our defense is going to run the same scheme this week.

We are 14 point favorites at home.

We have a sell out today. It's sunny and 91 degrees at kickoff.

Terry Betters with a short kickoff return, and we start on our 8.

We put together a 85 yard drive, mostly on the ground as Wes ran it well the first few times and kept getting the ball.

Randy was sacked on 3rd and goal to force the 25 yard FG. 3-0 lead.

They have 2 really talented HB's and it is showing on this first drive.

We stop them on 2 successive runs, and short of the goalline on 3rd and 2. They have to settle for a FG, but we get charged with holding on the FG attempt! That gives them a 1st. Don Adkins, their starting HB runs it in from the 1. 7-3.

End of 1: 7-3 lead for Missouri, but we are inside their 20.

Randy hits Jerry Jones on the corner route for a 16 yard TD to start the 2nd quarter. Randy is a perfect 5 for 5 in the game. 10-7 lead for us.

Joshua Lewis sacks the QB on 3rd and 9 and forces a quick punt.

They stop us short of midfield, as their FS nailed Jerry Jones and forced an incomplete on 3rd and 7.

We force a fumble around midfield and recover the ball.

We drive inside the 15, but they stop us short on 3rd and 7. We settle for a short FG. 13-7.

Their HB, Don Adkins breaks off a long run for a TD. 14-13.

Wes with a few good runs to get deep in their turf.

Wes fumbles it deep in their turf, but Randy recovers it.

Next play, Randy throws a perfect wheel route pass to Wes Nelson for 18 yards and a TD! 20-14 with 40 seconds left in the half.

We stop them on their first two plays, and they run out the clock.

Halftime: 20-14 lead for USC. Randy's halftime stats: 14 of 15 for 146 yards and 2 TD's 0 INT's.

A roughing the passer call negates an interception by Secules and gives them the ball inside our 10. The next play their 2nd string HB who is also quite good runs it in from 9 yards out. 21-20.

Wes Nelson is great on this drive as he runs and catches the ball to move us most of the way. Randy hits Howard on a quick slant, and Howard avoids a tackle to make it a 9 yard TD pass. 28-21 as Randy throws it for a 2 point conversion.

We force a 3 and out.

End of 3: 28-21 USC lead with us driving inside the 10.

Randy scrambled twice to convert 3rd downs, and we end the drive with an 8 yard TD pass from Randy to Jerry Jones. 35-21.

We stop them after 20 yards, and force a punt. 12 minutes left in the game.

Randy hits Jerry Jones in stride on a slant, and Jones makes it a 63 yard gain to get us inside the 10.

Maston runs it in from 1 to end the 5 play 73 yard drive. 42-21 with 9 1/2 minutes left.

We force a 3 and out.

A personal foul forces a 3rd and 23, and Randy gets sacked while looking for a receiver to get open. We punt it.

Kevin Putnam with a sack on the 1st play.

Courtney Carlton sacks him on 2nd and 13 to force 3rd and 19.

We stop them 10 yards short and they punt.

With about 5 minutes left, Randy hurts his lower back and has to leave the game.

They stop us just short of the 10 and we settle for a 28 yard FG. 45-21.

We get consecutive sacks and force the turnover on downs.

We run out the clock.

Game over. 45-21 win.

Pros: The offense absolutely thrived again. The defense didn't give up many big plays other than 1 long run. Generally, the defense played well against a good offense.

Cons: Randy continues to be brittle. At least, we have a quality backup to come in if necessary.

Looks like the offense is much improved. Pretty nice line for Wes, and he wasn't going against little sisters of the poor, either.

Injury Report:

Randy pulled a muscle in his back and is probable for this week.

DT Joshua Lewis has a hairline fracture of his arm, but is probable for this week.

CB Robert Rolle is out with his broken jaw.

FS Brian DeMulling is questionable with his arm injury, but will play.

RB Lawrence Armstrong has been declared ineligible due to academics (no big deal)

A much bigger deal, backup OT Terry Harper has been declared ineligible for 3 weeks.

Depth Chart Issues:

Only the 2 ineligible players are removed. No other changes.

Randy will start this week.

Polls:

Despite the win, we drop down to #4 in the polls.

Miami moved up from #4 to #3 with a 44-41 win over #11 LSU.

Preview:

Today we play at #17 Georgia. Their offense is 63rd in the nation and is led by Sophomore QB Dave Crosby who is going to be special one day. He already has a strong arm with excellent touch. He had 294 yards on 50% passing last game with 1 TD and 1 INT.

The defense is good and is led by star linebacker Avion Irons who is only a junior but is on many lists as a possible All American. He has freakish speed with powerful tackling at 6'1 256 pounds.

Despite this, our offense and defense are both rated better than theirs and is favored in this game.

The key matchup according to the announcer is RB Marvin Atkinson vs our front 7.

Marvin only had 10 yards before being injured last game.

Gameplanning:

We are going to use the same gameplan for offense.

Defensively, we are going to use a lot of nickelback and dime formations.

We are 13 point favorites despite being on the road.

Night and day from last year for the whole offense. I think Wes is thriving from my decision to give him most of the carries this year as well.

They have over 92,000 fans here today.

It's hot and muggy.

We start off on our 20.

Wes starts off with a 14 yard run out of a 4 WR set.

Next play Randy hits Jerry Jones in stride on a post route for 24.

1 yard run by Liske, then a 10 yard pass to Jones.

Maston with a 9 yard run after an incomplete pass.

An offsides call against Georgia negates the 1 yard stuff and gives us a 1st on their 17.

Randy throws it to Kelley on the deep out for a 17 yard TD! 7-0.

We went 80 yards in just under 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

They start on their 20.

Crosby with a quick 23 yard strike to his WR.

Trevor Malone blitzes and sacks the QB for 8 yard loss on the next play.

We stuff them for 1 and then Jeremiah Bratton takes the QB down at the line to force a punt.

Unfortunately, we fumble it fairly quickly and give them the ball in great field position. 5 plays later Crosby connects with Hopkins for a 24 yard TD. 7-7.

Wes Nelson with a stupid personal foul to put us in a hole to start the drive. Randy connects with Kelley in stride on a deep out, and Kelley makes a man miss. 40 yard gain.

They stuff us on the next 3 plays, and we punt from midfield, but it sails into the endzone.

We hold them to only 12 yards gained on this drive, and force a punt.

Randy is pressured, and ends up throwing 3 incompletions after his first pass was complete for 10 yards. We end up punting as the 1st quarter ends.

End of 1: 7-7 tie.

A holding call on Dwone Secules negates our stopping them on 3 successive plays.

We stop them just inside the 30 and they attempt a 45 yard FG which they make. 10-7 Georgia.

Randy with a perfect 4 of 4 passing for 57 yards on this drive which ends with a 12 yard TD run by Maston. 14-10 lead for us.

They get a great kickoff return and start on their 40.

Bratton with two great plays and another play by Dwone forces a 3 and out.

7 play 70 yard drive which ends with a 27 yard TD pass to Jones in stride. 21-10 lead for us. Malcolm and Wes ran it well on that drive.

DT Joshua Lewis tackles the WR on a quick slant, forces a fumble, recovers it! Great field positon for us.

A holding call quickly kills the drive, but connect on a 40 yard FG. 24-10 lead for us with 2 minutes left in the 1st half.

We force a 4 and out as time is about to run out in the half.

Halftime: 24-10 lead for USC. Randy's halftime stats: 13 of 20 for 218 yards, 2 TD 0 INT. We've held their star QB to 40% passing for 83 yards.

Courtney Carlton with a pass interference call to get their drive started.

They put together a very balanced drive of 67 yards to get onto our 1. We stop them 3 consecutive plays, but they pass it on 4th and 1 for a TD. 24-17.

Randy throws it to Malcolm on the first play of the drive, but they force a fumble which their star MLB recovers.

Joshua Lewis sacks the QB on 3rd and 3 for a loss of 8 to force a punt from our 40.

We start out on our 3.

Wes is tackled for a safety! 24-19 we lead.

They get a great kick return to get the ball on our 30.

Marcus Thompson with a 9 yard sack on 2nd down. We stop them on 3rd and force a punt.

They pin us on our 1!

Wes starts us off with an 8 yard run.

We drive to midfield, before Randy throws his first really bad pass. Their SS intercepts it and returns it to our 35. 23 yard return gives them great field position.

Jim Stacey sacks them on 2nd and 8. Our D line is doing a great job of getting pressure. We stop them on 3rd down and force a FG attempt of 52 yards which we block!

4th Quarter: 24-19 lead for USC.

Randy leads us on a nice drive including a play where he scrambles for 4 to make a 1st down.

Wes Nelson fumbles it inside their 20, Randy dives for it, but they recover. Randy is hurt on the play!

Lennox Franklin was hurt on that drive.

Dwone Secules intercepts their first pass and returns it to their 15.

Randy wasn't hurt too bad, and he comes back in for this drive.

4 plays later Billy Kelley runs the reverse for a 4 yard TD. 31-19 with just under 9 minutes left.

Mike Maddox forces a fumble on the kickoff return, and we recover it!

4 plays later Randy hits Wes Nelson for a 1 yard TD pass. 38-19 with 6 minutes left!

We force a 3 and out, and they have a poor punt. We get it at midfield.

We drive to the 28, but miss the 45 yard FG.

Brad Adams sacks the QB on the 1st play, forces a fumble, crawls over the QB, recovers the fumble!

We run the ball and the clock before settling for a short FG. 41-19.

We force a fumble on the kickoff return, and grab it and run it in 14 yards for a TD!!! 48-19!

I thought we were going to hold them under 200 yards (our first this year) but they hit a 50 yard hail mary to end the game. I guess our prevent defense didn't help.

Game over. 48-19 win!

Pros: Great offensive effort against a solid Georiga defense. Our best defensive effort of the year (other than the last pass at the end of the game.)

Cons: Randy was hurt towards the end of the game, hopefully, he isn't hurt bad.

I have a feeling Sanders will get his share of snaps with Collins' durability. At least it won't hurt the team as much this year when he goes out.

I think being in a more wide open offense will help Nelson this year.

Oh, and I think those wideouts are calling for a run-and-shoot.

Injuries:

We have a bye this week, which might allow Randy to recover for our next game.

Notable Stats:

Wes Nelson's 353 yards is 15th in the nation.

Jerry Jones is 3rd in the nation with 348 yards receiving. His 4 TD's is 2nd in the nation. Kelley's 243 yards is 18th in the nation.

DT Joshua Lewis is tied for 3rd in the nation with 3 sacks.

Dwone Secules' 4 interceptions leads the nation.

Polls:

We have jumped to 2nd with that 48-19 win. Georgia dropped to #21.

Ohio State remains in 1st place.

Week 5:

Injury Report:

Randy collins cracked his sternum 2 weeks ago! He is questionable for this week, but the coaches really think we should rest him. I'm going to put him as the #3 QB with no plan for him to play.

WR Lennox Franklin suffered torn cartilage in his elbow and he is doubtful and will not play this week.

DT Joshua Lewis is 100%

CB Robert Rolle is 100%

FS Brian DeMulling is 100%.

Depth Chart Issues:

Randy drops to the #3 QB due to his injury.

Lennox Franklin drops to the #5 WR due to his injury. Michael Howard moves into the #3 receiver with Dick Sayers at the #4 receiver.

Robert Rolle is being beat out by Wayne Cole. He will only be a dime back now that he has come back from his injury.

Polls:

With the bye, we drop to #3 in the polls with Miami taking over the #1 spot after a 22-17 win over now #9 Florida State.

Ohio State drops down to 2nd after a 41-13 win over Northwestern.

Preview:

Today we travel to play #21 Washington. Their offense is 7th in the nation and it is led by star junior HB Clem Sirmon who had a big game against us last year. Clem has 400 yards and 5 TD's so far in 3 games.

Their defense is much weaker (59th) and is led by MLB Gil Dyer who leads the team in tackles with 34. He also has a sack, an interception, and a defensive TD.

Our offense is 2nd and our defense is 7th. We are 11 point favorites despite playing on the road.

Gameplanning:

Despite Sedrick starting, our coaching staff wants to pass first. I agree.

Our DC wants us to focus on stopping the run and using a lot of our 4-3 base defense. I agree.

Just over 69,000 fans here today.

Nice weather with the temp at 65.

They are using a lot of the T formation, and their two top notch HB's start the drive with quick runs and catches.

Brian DeMulling tackles their FB and severely twists his knee.. this doesn't look good. He won't return today.

Jeremiah Bratton with a big tackle on their #2 halfback Don Foreman, he causes a fumble. Brad Adams recovers it.

Sedrick is sacked on our first play for a loss of 3.

He throws it 3 yards short on 3rd and 9 and we go 3 and out.

QB Bobby Curley has a 20 yard run to convert a 3rd and 15 to get the drive started.

Brad Adams nails their HB in the backfield, forces a fumble, gets it, runs with it! 37 yard return to their 1.

Wes Nelson runs it in from 1 on the next play! 7-0.

The Brad Adams DT to DE experiment is a big success early.

They drive down the field with a great running game, but we stop them just inside the 20. They connect on a 36 yard FG. 7-3 lead for us.

Sanders with a 12 yard pass to convert a 3rd and 8.

Sanders with a 10 yard pass to Howard to convert a 3rd and 7.

A personal foul on TE Eric Williams forces a 3rd and 17. We can't convert it and end up punting.

End of 1: 7-3 lead for us.

Brad Adams sacks Curley, forces a fumble! Jeremiah Bratton recovers it!

Sedrick with a quick 21 yard pass to Howard to get us inside the 10.

Sedrick finishes the drive with another TD pass to Eric Williams! 14-3.

Brad Adams with a big sack for 14 yards to stop their next drive.

We exchange failed drives, but get the ball back on our 22.

A few good runs, than Sedrick with a play action pass, hits Howard in stride for a 31 yard TD! 21-3 with 2 minutes left in the half.

We force a fumble on the kickoff return, but they recover.

First play of the drive, Bratton with a big hit on the QB knocks the QB out of the game.

Next play, Clem Sirmon jukes out 2 of my guys and takes it down the sideline for a 76 yard TD run. 21-10.

Robert Rolle with a nice kickoff return on the short play to get us the ball at midifeld.

First play, Sanders hits Jones in stride for a 48 yard gain.

2 sacks force us to settle for a 36 yard FG. 24-10 with 30 seconds left in the half.

Halftime: 24-10. They are outgaining us by a wide margin, but the turnover battle is winning this for us.

Sander's stats 13 of 16 for 166 yards and 2 TD's 0 INT's.

We force a 3 and out.

We drive inside the 5 with a 10 play 48 yard drive, but settle for a 22 yard FG. 27-10.

Kevin Putnam with a coverage sack for a 4 yard loss.

We force a 3 and out as they are unable to convert the 3rd and 14.

C Eric Evans hurt shis back and has to leave the game.

Walter Liddiard comes in for a 3rd and 2 and he hits Kelley for a 50 yard gain!

Wes Nelson runs it in from the 5 yard line a few plays later. 34-10 lead.

Joshua Lewis sacks their backup QB on 3rd and 3. He hurts the backup QB as well!

We are stopped are a few plays and punt it inside their 5.

Their 3rd string QB is in now.

End of 3: 34-10 lead for us.

Marcus Thompson with a big sack to force them 3 and out.

Sedrick hits Wes with a perfect screen pass for 40 yard gain!

A few plays later Sedrick his Louis our FB for a 4 yard TD pass! 41-10!

Wayne Cole picks off the QB.

Next play SS Hank Foreman intercepts Sanders' pass.

He returns it to our 20.

3 plays later they connect on a 16 yard TD pass. 41-17.

Sanders throws a slant to Howard which their MLB easily picked off.

We force a 3 and out.

We run the ball 80 yards down the field, and run out the last 5 minutes of clock before taking a knee inside the 20.

Game over. 41-17 win.

Pros: Sedrick was good, we continue to get turnovers and play generally good defense.

Cons: Gave up a few big plays including the long TD run. Randy missing this game with his injury will hurt his Heisman chances.

RB Lawrence Armstrong and OT Terry Harper have both returned from their suspension. No one is suspended now.

QB Randy Collins is questionable this week, and I decide to sit him due to his serious injury.

WR Lennox Franklin is doubtful and will also sit. This is an easy choice since Howard dominated last game.

C Eric Evans suffered a disc injury in his back, but is probable this week.

FS Brian DeMulling is probable as he didn't have any structural damage to his knee.

Depth Chart Issues:

Randy will remain the #3 QB due to his injury and will not play barring injuries.

We don't have any changes in our depth chart except putting the suspended guys, particularly Harper, back on the depth chart.

Polls:

We are now #1 after that 41-17 win over #22 Washington!

Miami dropped to #2 despite beating Virgina 40-9.

Ohio State dropped to 3rd after having a bye.

Preview:

Today we host Arizona State. Their offense is very balanced and is 30th in the nation. Their best player is superfreshman Kevin Bethea who looks like th ebest halfback I've ever seen. He was rated the 7th best HB in H.S last year, but he is amazing so far. He has 450 yards rushing, 250 yards receiving, and he is going to get so much better.

Their defense is 50th with Charles Peek, a senior leading the team with 4 sacks. He also has 5 hurries, and 3 stuffs.

Meanwhile, our offense is 2nd and our defense is 6th in the nation.

The key matchup is Wes Nelson vs their front 7 which are #2 in the nation against the run. They are only giving up 74 yards per game on the ground.

We are 10 point favorites at home.

Gameplanning: Same offensive gameplan as every other game this year.

We are going to use a zone blitz scheme.

We have 92,000 fans here today.

Peek sacks Sedrick after we drive to their 30.

We drive 74 yards, but end up 4 yards short of a TD. 22 yard FG to take a 3-0 lead.

Kevin Bethea with a 9 yard run to start the drive.

Dwone Secules hurts his ankle tackling Bethea a few plays later. Secules might not come back.

Brian DeMulling hurts himself tackling Bethea. Bethea is a big bruiser.

Bratton stops Bethea short of a 1st inside our 10. They settle for a 25 yard FG. Long drive their in which battered us a bit.

Sedrick throws a little short flare pass to Wes Nelson, he jukes a defender, stiff arms another, runs it up the sideline for a 59 yard TD!!! 10-3.

End of 1: 10-3 lead for us, but ASU is driving.

Brad Adams with a big tackle to stop them on 3rd and 4. They kick the 36 yard FG, but it is wide right!

We drive inside the 30, but Sedrick is sacked. They block our FG.

Terry Betters get his first pick of his young career on their 3rd play, and we get the ball on their 37.

37 yard drive ends with a 5 yard TD pass from Sanders to Kelley. Sedrick threw his first incompletion on that drive.

Mason misses the XP. 16-3 with 4 minutes in the 1st half.

Kevin Bethea runs over 3 guys to convert a 3rd and 8 with a 10 yard run.

A few plays later, he runs over my MLB for a 10 yard gain to convert a 3rd and 9.

Halftime: 16-3 lead for us. Sanders' halftime stats: 13 of 14 for 207 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's.

Trevor Malone with 2 big tackles on Bethea to force a 3 and out.

Sanders hits Howard for a great 63 yard play action pass.

A few plays later, Wes Nelson runs it in from 1 yard out. Sanders underthrows the 2 point conversion. 22-3.

Robert Rolle with a big hit on Bethea, forces a fumble, Brad Adams recovers it!

They stop us on 3rd and goal from the 3, and we have to kick a field goal. 25-3.

Tim Coleman hurts his neck tackling Bethea. He won't return.

We stop them on the next 3 plays and force a punt.

End of 3: 25-3 lead for us.

We drive inside the 21, and kick a 37 yard FG. 28-3 lead for us.

We stop them after just a few plays and force a punt.

We have a few short plays before Sedrick hits Jerry Jones in stride, he makes one man miss and is off to the races. 39 yard TD!!! 35-3.

They are just passing now, we force a 3 and out.

Sanders drives us to midfield, but then throws and ill advised soft out that is intercepted by their CB.

2 plays later, Terry Betters gets a pick!

We run the ball inside the 30, and eventually kick a 46 yard FG. 38-3 with under a minute left.

Jeremiah Bratton intercepts a crossing pattern!

We run out the remaining bit of clock.

Game over. 38-3 win for us.

Pros: Except for the pick, one of our best passing games ever. Very good defensive effort against a good offense. Howard is showing what a great Freshman receiver he is.

Cons: It wasn't Randy that made the passing game go today.

Week 7 Injury Report:

QB Randy Collins is still questionable due to his cracked sternum. He will be the #3 for another week, unfortunately.

WR Lennox Franklin is still doubtful with his elbow injury.

C Eric Evans is probable with his back injury

OLB Tim Coleman suffered a neck laceration and is questionable.

FS Brian DeMulling is 100%

Depth Chart Issues:

I'm going to start Coleman. Therefore, we don't have any depth chart changes. Randy will again remain at #3 due to his injury.

Polls:

Miami beat #16 Clemson and moved up from #2 to #1. We drop to #2.

Preview:

today we travel to play Cal. Tehy are 4-1 and have an explosive offense and a very good defense. Tehir offense is ranked 14th and their defense is ranked 17th. Our offense is 2nd, and our defense is 1st in the nation! Their strong offense is led by RB Ed Angsman. He didn't develop as much as I thought he would this year, but he is still a very good RB. He has over 650 yards on the year and 200 receiving yards. He has scored 8 TD's. However, their QB and WR's are good too.

Their strong defense is led by OLB Jim Burris who is a Senior. He has 43 tackles, 4 sacks, and 1 interception on the year.

Gameplanning:

Our offensive gameplan is the same.

Our defensive plan is the same as last week.

They have over 74,000 fans here today.

We are 10 point favorites.

We force a turnover on downs at midfield as they can't convert a 4th and 2.

Jerry Jones is hit hard and drops the 3rd down pass. We settle for a 42 yard FG. 3-0 lead.

Marcus Thompson with a sack to force a 3 and out.

We drive inside their 5 with a balanced attack, but end up settling for a 27 yard FG after a penalty pushes us back. 6-0.

We force a punt after a short drive.

Sanders with a 13 yard pass to Jones to convert a 3rd and 11.

End of 1: 6-0 lead for us, and we are driving deep into their territory.

Next play, Sanders connects with Wes Nelson for a 6 yard Pass TD. 13-0.

They drive to midfield, but we force a punt.

We drive to midfield, but the SS hits Jones on a crossing route, and Jones fumbles it. They recover it.

2 plays later Brad Adams forces a fumble and Bratton recovers it!

Sanders drives us down the field with crisp passes. We end the drive with a 4 yard TD pass to TE Eric Williams. 20-0 with 4 minutes in the half left.

They put together a 57 yard drive mostly through the air which ends with a 16 yard TD pass. 20-7. Just under a minute left.

Halftime: 20-7 lead for us. Sanders' halftime stats: 18 of 28 for 215 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's.

They force us into a 3 and out.

We stop them quickly, and get the ball back.

Wes Nelson starts the drive with a 76 yard TD run! Sanders connects with Nelson for the 2 point conversion. 28-7!

We stop them short of midfield and force a punt.

They stop us quickly, and force a punt.

We stop them inside the 20, and they settle for 3. 28-10.

End of 3: 28-10 lead for us, and we are driving deep.

Walter comes in 3rd and 1 from the 19. He throws a quick screen to Wes Nelson. It's a 19 yard TD pass! 35-10.

We force a fumble on the kickoff return which we recover!

2 plays later Sanders hits Nelson with the ball in the flat, he hurdles a defender for a 10 yard TD! 42-10.

We force a 3 and out.

Walter comes in, tries to throw a quick out and it is picked off.

We stop them on 4th and 1 and force a turnover on downs.

Sanders hits Jones in stride for a 42 yard corner route.

A few plays later Walter hits Jones on a quick hook for a TD. 49-10 with 5 minutes left.

They drive to our 1, but Marcus Thompson sacks the QB, forces a fumble which Nate Ferrario recovers for us.

They force us to go 3 and out.

Nate Ferrario intercepts their first long pass, gets some blocks, and returns it 73 yards for a TD!!! 56-10.

Game over. 56-10 win.

Pros: Another very strong effort from the defense. Another explosive offensive performance. Wes Nelson might end up being a Heisman candidate with a few more games like this in which he had 4 TD's and over 250 yards of offense.

Cons: Threw a pick, a few bad drives, but overall a very good game for us.

You guys are just annihilating people this year. You know the year is going well when you are at the midway point with the #2 offense and #1 defense. While having to start your backup QB and not missing a beat.

Yeah, we are doing great this year. The defense generating so many turnovers is key. Obviously, Sedrick Sanders is a great #2. I'll feel bad sitting him once Randy is healthy.

Week 8 Injury Report:

QB Randy Collins is still questionable with his cracked sternum.

WR Lennox Franklin is still questionable with his elbow injury.

OLB Tim Coleman is questionable with his neck laceration.

C Eric Evans is 100%.

Depth Chart Issues:

I'm going to try to have Tim push through his injury. Eric started with his injury. Therefore, there are no changes.

Notable Stats:

Wes is 15th in the nation with 763 rushing yards. His 350 receiving yards leads the nation for RB's. His 12 TD's from scrimmage are 2nd in the nation.

Jerry Jones is 5th in the nation among WR's with 669 yards. Jones is tied for 2nd among WR's with 6 TD's. He is 10th among WR's with 39 receptions.

Kelley is 15th with 453 yards.

Dwone Secules is still tied for 2nd with 4 interceptions.

Polls:

1. Miami 7-0 (41-3 win over Duke)
2. USC 6-0 (56-10 win over Cal)
3. Michigan 7-0 (26-20 win over Illinois)
4. Oklahoma 6-0 (27-10 win over Colorado)
5. Iowa 5-1 (37-21 win over #6 Ohio Sate)
6. Ohio State 5-1 (drops from 3rd after the loss to Iowa)
7. Purdue 5-1 (34-13 win over Wisconsin)
8. Auburn 5-1 (23-20 win over #18 Georgia)
9. Penn State 4-2 (Bye)
10. Florida State 4-2 (59-20 win over Wake Forest)

Previews:

Today we travel to play at Arizona. They are 5-1 and have the 8th offense in the nation. They have a great QB, HB, and WR. Marcus Hicks is a senior who has rushed for 800 yards and has 7 rushing TD's and 3 receiving TD's. He has rushed for over 100 yards every game this year.

The defense is 25th and are quite skilled. They have talent at almost every position. DT Chris Herring is a junior who is leading the team with 4 sacks. He also has 4 hurries. He is probable with an arm injury this week. He was the #1 DT back in H.S.

Our Offense is 2nd in the nation and our defense is still 1st giving up only 291 yards per game. Our offense is putting up over 520 yards per game.

Gameplanning:

We are going with the same offensive gameplan.

We are going to focus on stopping the run defensively with a gameplan that will cheat up our SS sometimes.

We are 11 point road favorites.

They have just over 50,000 fans here today.

Terry Betters returns the opening kickoff 36 yards.

Sanders drove us down the field, but overthrows Kelley on 3rd and 5.

We hit a 44 yard FG. 3-0.

A personal foul on the kickoff return gives them the ball at midfield.

Marcus Hicks runs for 4, 1, and 9 yards on their first 3 plays.

DeMulling intercepts the first pass intended for Hicks downfield!

Sanders hits Wes deep downfield on a 36 yard pass completion.

Sanders hits Howard for 12 to convert 3rd and 10.

We get stopped inside the 20, and we kick a 35 yard FG. 6-0.

Joshua Lewis with a big sack to force 3rd and 15. We force a 3 and out.

We drive to the 20, but they sack Sanders on 3rd and 4 and we settle for a 41 yard FG. 9-0.

Culp hits Brian Fann their speedy HB (backup) for a few quick plays, and Hicks run it in from 1 yard out. 9-7 USC leads.

End of 1: USC leads 9-7.

Sanders moves us brilliantly down the field, overthrows Jones on a long pass, but Jones adjusts, catches it for 34 yards to get us inside the 5.

On 3rd and goal from the 1, Wes runs it in for the TD. 16-7. That drive ate up 5 minutes as we covered 82 yards in 13 plays.

We stop them on 3rd and 4, but they drove past our 20. They connect on a FG. 16-10.

We drive inside the 30, but a penalty forces us into 4th and 10 from the 39. We attempt a 56 yard FG which falls short.

We force a 3 and out as we stuff Hicks on his first two carries.

We have the ball on our 36 with under a minute left.

We end up running out of time before we can get in FG range.

Halftime: 16-10 lead for us. Sanders stats: 15 of 26 for 218 yards 0 TD 0 INT.

We stop them outside the 36 as DeMulling made a great hit on their WR and forced him to drop the pass.

Howard gets crushed on a crossing route, and it doesn't look like he will return.

The next play our starting C Eric Evans is hurt and has to leave the game.

We keep moving the ball down the field mostly with strong running on this drive.

Sanders ends the drive with a 10 yard in route to Dick Sayers for the TD! Sedrick throws it to Dick for the 2 point conversion. 24-10.

Wes had over 50 yards rushing on that drive.

We stop them at midfield and force the punt.

Dick Sayers hurts his knee while running a stop and go pattern, he won't return.

Wes Nelson has a personal foul when we convert a 4th and 2 and we end up giving the ball over to Arizona.

End of 3: 24-10 lead for us, with Arizona driving deep into our territory.

They put together a balanced drive which ends with a 3 yard TD run for Hicks' second TD of the day. 24-17.

Sanders hit Kelley for 33 yards to start the drive.

Wes with a 10 yard run.

Sanders with a 12 yard pass to Franklin.

Wes with a nice 6 yard run.

Incomplete pass as their corner defended it.

Sanders overthrows his receiver on 3rd and 4th, and we settle for a short FG. 27-17. We really are moving the ball well, just not punching it in.

They throw deep on the 2nd play which is 2nd and 15, Dwone Secules intercepts it at the 50.

Sanders drives us down the field in 4 plays and hits scrub WR Lamar Woods for a 10 yard TD to end the drive! 34-17.

We force a 3 and out as we bottle up Hicks.

We drive inside the 10, but Wes Nelson fumbles and they recover it. That is my only complaint about Wes, he fumbles too often.

They have the ball with just under 3 minutes left.

They drive down the field, but Bratton intercepts it inside our 20. We take a knee and the game is over.

Game over. 34-17 win.

Pros: Wes with another huge day. Very good showing from Sanders and the receivers.

Cons: Quite a few injuries this game. Hopefully, none of them are too serious.
